Thank you so much. We just got a Subaru and I returned to ask the salesperson a few questions. His response was "didn't read the manual, huh". Mine was "I didn't read War and Peace either". This really helps.

Wow, there's a salesperson who's not interested in your repeat business, I guess! I wonder if he's read the manual. I'm a retired college technical writing instructor, and it's hands-down the worst manual I've ever seen, by a considerable margin. It's literally gibberish in places. Thank goodness for all the Subaru how-to videos out there on UA-cam.

I live in MN too and plan to buy a new car before the winter comes. I had a test drive on the 2020 Forester Sport the other day and I liked it overall even tho there was a metal clanking noise coming from the bottom of the vehicle during the test drive and Stop-Start was new to me. How has your driving experience been so far? Do you recommend it?

Thanks Brandon! It was bugging me that the tire pressure was in KPH, but I figured it out just last week. Took my 3 month old 2019 Forester Touring on it's first trip. Went to Death Valley. Been watching and learning from all your videos. Had all types of driving situations. Got to play with the Paddle Shifters and Adaptive Cruise. Going from 250 feet below Sea Level to 4000 feet above. No snow on the road, but on the shoulders, and melting. Got a warning, "May Be Icy". WOW. Also got a yellow warning, car with wavy lines, and an "X". I'm trying to look it up. Last note: My Samsung phone was old, got a new one on Black Friday. Able to use Android Auto and Google Maps. In Death Valley, lost signal from Google, but was able to get signal from Tom Tom and use it. Love this car, and thanks again, for the videos.

Thanks for the video Brandon! Just picked up our 2021 Forester Touring yesterday and searching for videos like yours to tweet settings, etc. We absolutely love Subaru as this is the fifth Subaru in our family. I now need to look for a video that explains how to set the number 1 and 1 seat positions with facial recognition, the 1/2 setting buttons, and the individual key fobs themselves. My wife and I will both be driving this vehicle so the two seat settings options will be extremely nice to have.

Hey everyone who hates the auto on-off thing every time you come to a stop--you can in fact turn that off!
its the A in a partial circle in the lower left buttons next to the steering wheel (Second button, bottom row). Unfortunately you have to do this every time you start the car, but at least it fixes this damn thing!

Wanna know that coolest "hack" for our cars? Turning your rear camera on while you're driving around. It might not work on all of them, and the head unit gets warm if you leave it on for hours (I was towing a 5x8 to CO).
Hold [Home] button and press [Tune] wheel twice. A secret menu comes up but don't mess with it. Just touch [Camera] > scroll down to [Camera Setting]. Boom, the camera is on whenever.
I removed the steering position lines. It looks cleaner. You can see your blindspots pretty much perfectly with it. Fisheye AF.

Wow, being able to change the settings on the screen makes it so much easier than models from just a few years ago! My Forester is a few years old and to get the horn to stop chirping whenever I locked it there was a bizarre sequence that had to be done which included inserting the ignition key 7x in a row (7 sisters of the Pleiades?). This system is much better.

The problem is that the TPMS is set for my normal (summer) tires but when I switch to my snow tires, the TPMS won't work and tells me I have an inflation problem. To have it manually changed would cost me about $80 at Subaru and then another $80 to change it back when I switch back to my normal tires. I am aware of other car brands that allow for two sets of tires. So for the winter, I ignore the automated warning system and have to check tire pressure manually. With all the sophistication that Subaru adds to a car, it seems like this would be a simple perk to include.

I have an older Subaru with the Harmon Kardon system. This is definitely better that Subaru has developed, but still seems behind other manufacturers like GM. For example, because of OnStar, even if you lack a mapping system, it will switch the weather automatically to where you are while with Subaru, you have to manually change the weather to each town you go to. Better than the older system but still not great. Thanks for this - if I buy a new Subaru this is very useful.

Nice to know thanks. But here is a settings that might be worth looking into. Headlight adjustment it’s so bright on my 2020 outback which is good for visibility while on low beam but so incredibly dangerous for other oncoming traffic. I am constantly being flashed to the point where I have almost gone off road so I took to dealership and they adjusted Subaru put them way to high from factory and they are very bright. I recently had to replace my windshield because of this. A oncoming truck through a handful of nuts and bolts out the window at me by the time I turned around they were gone I wish they had installed a dial in cab for angle just like my Toyota Tundra. So convenient. After Subaru adjusted my lights I loade it I up and have small trailer. Guess what back to square one they need a adjustment dial in side. Please Subaru fix this before someone dies

I have a 2018 Forester, nice to see the improvements in the 2019. I wish I could get the radio and paddle shifters of the 2019 in the 2018 and keep everything else... I much prefer the looks of the 2018, but the radio is outdated (no Android Auto, no Apple CarPlay, and so on). The paddle shifters (virtual gears, giving you the ability to manually select the CVT ratio) were only available with the turbo, and I didn't need turbo (and the high price of gas it would be), so didn't get that. Got everything else, though!

Thanx Brendan but I wish you had mentioned the stupid feature that my new Crosstrek has and it's the one that stops your engine when you stop at a light. I know there is a switch to stop it but it defaults to on when you next start your engine. It's just another moving part and it makes noise when you release the brake pedal.

The start/stop thing really irritates me on my 2020 forester. I was never told that it was a feature on the car so right as I drove it off the lot and stopped at my first red light I thought it stalled lol. I was real mad at first till it tool my foot off the brake and it started up. Very annoying feature though. Might save $20 worth of gas but burn my $100 battery out in the process. That also cant be good for the longevity of the starter either.

@@grotusuberchannel5655 yeah, it's now a force of habit for me to push the button right after I turn the key. It would be nice if they made it so you could turn it off permanently and on again when you wanted. I have my lane warning turned off because I live in a city and it just beeps all the time, especially down narrow side roads with a poorly maintained line and oddly parked cars. Wish the stop/start feature could be toggled like that.

As othe4 folks have recommended, I keep radio volume knob at 0, easiest reliable fix. The auto stop is almost a deal breaker, I researched and for me buying a $90 ($80 with online discount code), was the only viable fix. Sanity again after weeks.

  • @marksandstrom4248
    @marksandstrom4248 4 роки тому +1

I'd appreciate verification, I don't think much about this applies to my '17 Forester XT Touring? (the prior generation) Even after 3.5 years of ownership I find our car's electronic gadgets by far its weakest link. 1) power seat position memory loses its place on height, needs another reset every few weeks 2) butt-unlocking of car parked in street leaves it permanently unlocked 3) power tailgate is slow and balky 4) stereo cannot be turned off while transmission is in Reverse 5) there is a mystery single "bong" chime which occurs only on long trips, from time to time with no dashboard explanation 6) I find neither max nor min make auto headlight reaction time fast enough for my own driving which involves lots of tunnels and parking garages 7) the car cannot remember 8 tire pressure sensors at once so winter tire/rim exchanges require time-consuming dealer visits twice per year. 8) the car goes beeper-bonkers if you happen to shut off the engine before shifting to Park, and won't stop until the ignition is cycled through acc/on/off again. All of this, in my imagination at least, could be addressed in an "operating system update" like I'm used to doing for my computers all the time. At this point, if I ever think about buying another Subaru, I'm going to insist that the sale agreement include a back-out if any of the above problems are still unsolved in future Subarus.
