"We can't always rely directly on trial records..." Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for this!! It kind of drives me bonkers sometimes to see trial records taken as pure fact. Because of the biased reporting and the conditions to which confessions were obtained by.

Like trial records can be corrupted, which you said in the way that they attained the confession of "evidence" that could have been placed, it could have been forged, there can be bribery going on, there is a lot of corruption that goes on in the justice system so there is not always truth in even trial records, in even when you are in a court case, even when you are in a jury there can be somebody be bribed to turn the case into their favor, even judges are not immune to being bribed, it's sad

I’m 67 years old and a widow. I live alone in a small house in the woods with my 2 dogs, no cats currently. I used to have 12 cats. This situation alone would have some people call me a witch. Now I’m retired and studying herbalism. I’m learning about medicinal herbs. Something that I’ve always wanted to do when I was younger. I work with energy and crystals. I am a Reiki Master/Teacher. I am an ordained minister. I’ve heard and seen spirits and other beings my entire life. I believe in the law of attraction and positive thinking. I don’t do spells. I do pray. And I have been referred to as a witch my entire life. Why? Because I am perceived as “different”. I am a regular person! I go grocery shopping! I can’t wiggle my nose and have food appear on the table. When I was working, I was an accountant! I pay taxes. I knit. I have friends. I don’t sacrifice animals or anything. I don’t create love potions or spells. How normal is that!? Humans love to single out anyone who does not fit what they consider as their normal. It’s maddening! A really good episode. Thank you.

that's why many people have decided to reclaim the term witch, which has been used for generations against people (most often feminine presenting) who practice magick or are just more spiritually inclined than others. we take that word and label ourselves with it and take back the power pridefully. when somebody calls you a witch (depending on the situation, e.g. if it's safe or not), reply with "and what if i am? what are you going to do? burn me at the stake?" and simply laugh at their ignorance and fear towards you, removing them from your life as they probably won't bring anything good to it anyway. this is only a suggestion btw. it's how i deal with people who don't serve me anyway.

"Well... I'm Caucasian, so technically I should probably say yes."
"Okay, so let me try it this way...Are you a good witch?"
"Hmm... I'd say fair to middling... maybe even mediocre, based on the effectiveness of my last money bowl spell."
"Oh, fer cryin' out loud... Are you good or evil?"
"In my own eyes, according to my own ethics, I'm good... but I'm sure there are some very religious people who would assume I'm evil."
    "Urrrggghhhh.... I give up..."

Asking "are you a white witch?" is like asking "are you a good person?". There's everything, from evil to saint and all the stages in between. Plus, people change over time. How many people can honestly say that they have never been horrible at least once in their lives? That they have never done something they regret now?

If someone was to just walk up to me and be like “are you a good person?” I’d feel so uncomfortable. And my response would probably be a “…yes?” And I assume most people would answer the same way.
Idk magical practice is so personal too… like I get why people get scared and feel the need to ask, because they are scared of being cursed or whatever. But I’ve never met a witch who runs around cursing anyone they set their eyes on anyway. To ask a person these things is asking such a personal question. I’ve never asked someone what they pray about at night, please don’t ask me what I do when I’m doing a working.

Can someone explain how it's racist? Is it historically or even recently assumed that black witches do black or workings typically viewed immoral and white the opposite? Or is it because of the words "black" and "white" which if that'd the reason then the colors don't always mean skin
Or something else? I'm very confused lately after hearing it's racist but never why

I think another reason some people are afraid to ask questions is they don’t want to accidentally offended. I know when I was younger I didn’t want my question to unintentionally offend anyone out of respect for all people. However as an curious person, I’ve learned ways (and am still) to ask others questions to show I cared and was coming from a good place of wanting to grow.

I like to think of the term “witch” in the same realm as “nurse”. There is a bit of an old fashioned stigma (mostly in older generations) that they are only female terms, and we are used to a higher percentage of women who practice them, but they are still totally gender neutral terms and are used for anyone, both women and men included.

As a Christian I don't understand why because you live in the Bible belt you have to be careful of who you share it with. I'm Hispanic and I grew up around Catholics who practice witchcraft, they would go to church on Sunday's and practice Santeria, read the Bible for spells and practice divination. Maybe it's a culture difference on why I don't get it. 🤔

    • @witchofredwoods8963
      @witchofredwoods8963 Рік тому +9

@@sally9352 Yes, I do think it's a cultural difference. Where you grew up, I suppose witchcraft and magickal practices have been normalized (not too surprising, considering the origins of the genre of magical realism). I'm assuming you grew up in a Hispanic-dominated neighborhood?
In most parts of the United States, from my experience and to my knowledge, magickal practices are shamed/looked down upon, and many Christians even go so far as to demonize it or even attack you for your beliefs. Particularly in the Bible Belt, it can be as much a matter of physical safety as it is emotional/mental safety.
Even though I am fortunate enough to be living in a more religiously tolerant region, and have come out as a pagan to anyone who asks (minus my family), I still don't feel comfortable explaining my magickal practices to even my closest friends.

I’ve found people are dismissive and rude about mental health, homophobic about my sexual orientation, but are curious about my craft. I don’t live in the Bible Belt but I do come from a catholic family and I’ve only been told I’m possessed once and I’m going to hell twice. Overall, I’ve found people are curious but don’t know how to ask questions without risking offense. I’m happy I can be open here but I know Im lucky in that regard. Stay safe, witches!!

I assume by the way you explained the situation the family is of a Christian persuasion. You have to explain it in the terms they will understand. That kind of worldview sees things by what something looks like. In their worldview, for example, they think light is good and darkness is bad, without having realized just as much good comes from darkness and just as much bad comes from light. Because too much light is blinding but so too is too much darkness; and if too much light is blinding, and so too is too much darkness, then most definitively lukewarm is blinding as well. [The text of their particular persuasion was just answered in a single statement, so don't say that outright, because it's a crashing blow to them and they may respond with violence rather than to admit defeat.] Much less they don't understand the science of colors which is sad. So, therefore, explain it like this and use these words specifically. The color of the candle has nothing to do with good or bad (i.e. this hits on the points they are most concerned with because they only see the world in terms of being cut and dry black and white). It's the intention/s of the person using the candle, not the color of the candle, is what matters.

I work in aerospace. My love of black, Doc Martens and cats is about all that will give anything away, a lot of assumptions are made. I have always been considered the weirdo or loner, so it doesn't even bother me anymore, I embrace it! I adjust to the situation I am in but I am, for the most part, just me. I have been a witch for over 35 years. I don't share much with people, even those who have known me for years. I've been disowned by my family for over 25 years and that is their choice. My house décor is a darker mood, I have my gardens for food and herbs, I have crystals and other things I have multiple uses for but most people just think I am a little weird but I still hang out and go out and live my life my way. I have an entire space dedicated to my creative side, an art studio of sorts. A lot of people come to me for information of herbs, natural healing, life wisdom, etc, without realizing my truth behind it. I don't intend to hurt anyone, I just keep myself surrounded in protection. I avoid anyone who comes at me with their beliefs. I had neighbors for almost 10 years who cursed me everyday. I just put protection around myself and my family and animals and ignored them.

I got attacked for having my own pagan beliefs and my own way of doing magick. So I just don't join pagan or witch groups anymore and stick to friends only 🙁 there's gatekeeping problems in the communities.

I’m sorry you have had to deal with that. For something that is so intimate and personal to each individual. Of course that’s why. To those people may I remind: Just because some people do things a certain way or have a certain viewpoint doesn’t automatically make another’s invalid. I hope you to meet more chill people in the future.

So "wars" between witches really ARE a thing....i experience this in an internet forum on a regular basis, and thought it happend only online. If i had a penny for every time someone accused me of attacking them magically, i would be rich. Even though i would never do that. Who knows where people get that idea about someone.

Probably because it's easy to blame others for one's faults...

@@axeSyntax I agree. Thats why i rarely "fire back" if im under the impression someone sends magic my way. Because i know i'm protected by my spirit guides and various shields. What's bothering me more is how delusional people can be. You know you didn't attack anyone, yet they claim to know exactly what you did to them, and they are absolutely sure it was you. They tell others, and they don't question it either. 🙄 It's like bullying, but with magic

Idk why but these videos always scare me, mainly because I always feel that imposter syndrome like im not "that witch" if you know what I mean . Like i dont beleive what im stereotypically "supposed" to believe and don't fit within the mold even within the witchcraft comminuty itself. Its like you are fringe of a fringe and that gets hard sometimes because I guess the fringe is supposed to accept you . But then I remember witchcraft and paganism is so vast there is no one way to do do or believe anything and I must accept that.

As witchcraft is basically just a craft that an individual person does, asking someone are you a good witch or a bad witch is basically like asking someone are you a good doctor or a bad doctor. Well, there are people that use their craft for good and people that use their craft for bad and since people are people, one is as likely to be a good whatever as a bad whatever based on how good of a person they are.

I get them sneezes sometimes, they just hover for a moment & can not make up their mind if they want to stay or go. Plus I don't think I would ask a witch if they was a good witch or a bad witch. The same way if I met a person I would not ask them if they was a good or bad person. I would just get to know them regardless of their path or craft.

Around the 20:00 mark its true i grew up in a conservative christian community who saw witchcraft, wicca, and paganism as evil
To them if you werent a form of christian you were treated cruely especially when you're young
Some of my friends stopped talking to me or berated me over the path ive chosen and no where near me is a safe place for witchcraft supplies or being able to fully express it...(unless you count Earthbound) the nearest Metaphysical shop is 2 hours away in the city even then its difficult to find
The internet is where ive started research but it is hard to tell whats true and what isn't

Movies! Where to start. I'm a military veteran and an engineer. I can't stand watching most action movies because they get so much wrong. I'm also a bit of a history buff, and many historical movies are likewise painful to watch. I know so many of them are wrong, so I really don't expect movies to get much right. Harry Potter is fine, I know it is a fiction with no real intention of portraying real magic.
I first started watching your videos after tuning in to one about fairies. I was curious what you believed. You captured my interest with your well researched and presented material. Now I have a pile of books to read. Mostly based on your recommendations.

Wow, I'm early! Just saw this, watching it right now! Is the pitchfork thing a reference to something specific or is he just commenting about how people would view witches negatively and drive them out with whatever weapon they had on hand (in the case of a farmer, a pitchfork)?
Also, I *LOVE* that they chose Griffin for this!
[Edit] Gods, 40ºC is hot, even for California! Imagining that in England … I totally get why you didn't want to film during the daytime. That's like peak temperature during the summer here.
