      This farm is mostly no-till but the deep ripping on half the ground every other year is a big benefit to the crops.

    Wonderful content! Thanks so much for taking the time to explain the process.
    How do the Deere track machines measure up against the tire machines? The tracks seem to distribute the weight more uniformly with a much larger footprint. ❤

      Good eye on the 370. The section of the video talking the cropping season were clips from my archives filmed from 2018 to 2023. The tractors pulling the air drills are 9360Rs.
      The farm in rotates two 4wds from its fleet every few years. In 9360Rs and 9370Rs were the main tractors on the farm in 2018. The farm upgraded to 9R 490s and 9R 440s this year. I think the 490s were working on strip tillage this fall. I did not see them.

    If I lived in that area I would volunteer to run a tractor for them. It's not hard work, as compared to stand grinding or hod carrying, running equipment 8-10 hours a day but it sure is tiring. Of course the grader I ran didn't have air conditioning, padded seats, cruise control, auto steering, etc. so it kind of like comparing operating an old dump truck versus a new BMW.

      @bigtractorpower  Рік тому

      I enjoy watching farming in the UK on UA-cam. It amazes me how tractors narrowly fit down the roads and navigate traffic and parked cars in towns. Tractors with this tire set up would not go very far on the road in Britain.
      The triple tire set up is the same width as the 4wds you see with big metric dual wheels. The triples ride smoother and reduce power hop vs duals.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Рік тому +1

      Here in WKY triples are the most popular for higher horse power tractors. They give the best traction in the red clay soil. Metric duals power hop here. I have not seen any LSW singles used on farms here. Farmers feel the super single will not put the power to the ground. I have filmed a 500 hp FENDT 1050 on wide singles, wide duals and triples. The triples by far gave the best ride in tillage. The large singles really did not perform.
      Triples are also cheaper to buy or replace. You’re buying a row crop tire rather than an expensive metric.

      @@mfreund15448 Depends on upfront costs versus long term costs. Jason already answered my question and I do remember now that you mention it someone talking about the costs of buying multiples versus other options. Whilst I appreciate that ripping the ground is indeed necessary for breaking up all that compaction, the first thing that sprung to mind, was the cost of the operation. Firstly, the cost of all thar JD equipment, both tractors and rippers, JD not being the cheapest on the market ! Secondly, the fuel bill for running all those tractors. The owner of the farm must have some serious acreage to justify all that equipment. Naturally, I am aware that timeliness of such operations is of the utmost importance - it simply has to get done, or the next operation will not.

      A large factor in the big farming in this area in Kentucky is double crop soybeans. If you farm 2,000 acres you crop 3,000 acres in a season. Raising two grain crops on the same field in one year is plus for the farms. Because of the schedule needed to run the crop rotation it leads to big equipment that can cover the acres fast.
