After the independent inquest regarding the Hillsborough disaster of 1989, ex-Liverpool player Phil Thompson expresses his opinions on "Sky Soccer Saturday" as did journalists Jonathan Northcroft and Martin Samuel on Sunday mornings "Sunday Supplement". Some interesting views from these three with Thompson's coming from the heart and the press guys questioning areas still unresolved. - Спорт
Being at Stadium of Light on the day this was broadcast was such an experience being a Sunderland fan. Best bit was when everyone, I mean everyone started chanting "Justice for the 96". Liverpool became my 2nd team that afternoon.
Justice for the 96; from Motherwell, Scotland.

Good on you Phil . 11/3/2015 Duckenfield has confessed today , yes he admitted he lied .

JUSTICE FOR THE 96, love from Dublin R.I.P
From a tottenham hotspur fan in newcastle, never forget the 96 innocent victims. Justice for the 96 and their families. Liverpool, great city, great football club
R.I.P. the 96. I remember watching this disaster unfold live on Irish television, literally a nightmare. Please also remember the Heysel disaster also where 39 football fans went to a football game and never came home. Their lost lives are equally as important as the 96. Lets remember them too.
Justice for the 96 from Newcastle

Have actually been in that stand (the upper part) about 9 years later, didn't really try and contemplate it honestly until now, but do have respect for them taking this long to continue wanting what they need to have and what they deserve. Not just saying that I do genuinely mean it, still nothing like what they must have and I thoroughly believe they will get, Duckenfield should get a conviction for this, it doesn't make any sense he was just charged for manslaughter with gross negligence (or what ever it was) that's not enough, without a conviction I mean!
r.i.p my red brothers and sisters, we will never stop fighting for justice, we will keep your memories alive and never let them silence you. we are here for the families and the survivors, as a city we are divided in club colours but in times of need we stick together and i would like to thank the blue side of our city, our other brothers and sisters for sticking by us but most of all not giving up the fight and for showing the families that we are one. one city, one heart. we are merseypride

Justice for the 96 from an Everton fan
"walk on, walk on.... and have hope in your heart, and they'll never walk alone, they'll never walk alone!" JFT 96!
Love!
Good on Liverpool for fighting for their families !!!!!
I am a Liverpool fan and I live in Nottingham rest in peace 96 Liverpool fans god bless you all
Would it be fair to say that a massive burden/weight has been lifted off of Liverpool as a city and football club now? Maybe they aren't the correct words to describe it, but closure maybe has had a knock on affect and Liverpool are now going to win the league again? I'm a United fan, and I really hope we can go toe to toe in the coming years. Liverpool and United are both great clubs and I respect you more than I hate you.
I wish i could be forgiving but I can't. I'm proud of my city and it's people but the rest of the Uk can go to hell. You all believed the lies of The Sun... Shame on you all...
Nice word's my friend, and total respect, especially with you being a Man Utd fan.
My theory is Thatcher and her government were also behind the lies, it was payback time after what the South Yorkshire police did during the miners strike.
Thank you Mark Humphrey , as a Liverpool fan your kind words go a long way believe me .
Good on you .
Yes Mark I respect your words. I am a Liverpool supporter and I agree that both Liverpool and Manchester United are great clubs with great history. Two of the biggest clubs in England. Thank you for being respect.
+Mark Humphrey Thank you, Mark, two great clubs...but I wish you hadn't used the word 'hate'. It was an escalating hatred between football 'gangs' or 'mobs' - the MINORITY - who attended football matches mainly in the 70's and 80's simply to cause trouble. As we all know, the response was to segregate the fans inside football grounds with high steel perimeter fences. One or two lunatics spoiling it for the rest.
Don't get me wrong; we all knew back in 1989 that the Liverpool fans were blameless (I myself am a Liverpool supporter) on that fateful day, with senior police officers making catastrophic mistakes; the full truth 27 years overdue.
Anyway, I hope you're right - would be great to see Liverpool and Man U battling it out for the Premiership in years to come. I firmly believe that Hillsborough took it's toll and lead to Liverpool's slump in the 1990's (Dalglish unfortunately resigning under the strain two years later) coinciding with the emergence of a very successful Manchester United team.
Well Done Phil Thompson!!
justice at last, Rip to the 96 🍀
Justice for the 96, from Bristol R.I.P
When I first heard the news that the independent panel had finally published the right findings and overturned the crap that had originally been told, I had 2 emotions.
1: pleased because even though I and most football fans who were regularly going to football at the time of the disaster knew the police were lying, it was finally put in black and white for everyone to see.
2: anger, because it took so long for the truth to finally come out all over and at the lives that were ruined because of the lies told by the police and other authorities.
I am a survivor of pen 3 and I cannot comprehend that some people still believe the lies. I was one of the first people through gate C and offered my ticket to the steward who opened it but he refused to take it and waved us through! Here's a little known fact that makes the lie we where drunken, violent ticketless fans who forced the gate open, David Dukinfield ordered gate C to be opened 3 times as well as ordering gates A and B opened! The Sheffield safety engineer refused a safety certificate because he said the safe capacity of the terrace should be 3,500 and not 10,100. Just to give people some perspective there was 3,500 people in pens 3 and 4! The Hillsborough stadium operated for 9 years without a safety certificate and was still awarded to my knowledge 4 FA Cup Semi finals in that time. If you go back through reports there had been issues with crushing and overcrowding as far back as 1981 which makes their negligence even more incomprehensible and even more apparent this tragic loss of life was completely avoidable! JFT96 YNWA
police fucked it right up but no one will man up and fetch them selfs to be responsable for what happened and the fact they got a police commander who knew nothing about football or had not delt to manager football crowds really does say it all it was a desaster waiting to happen, mufc fan
I was there and remember it like it was yesterday /I will and can never forget what I saw and the lies that followed. I did all I could but still feel guilt that why not me instead of the kids I saw dead. it never leaves you never ! YNWA JFT96
My Dad was right in the middle of it with his feet up against the blue bar pushing back against the crowd and said the same thing. "Why didn't I die? Why did all those young kids die?" He helped pull out one of the Hicks sisters and I just recently found out he had hold of her hand as she died. Because his back got crushed and he dealt with the mental effects by trying to forget about it, he now is in a wheelchair. He wasn't even able to listen to YNWA. Katherine Jenkins was on TV and she started singing it so he turned the channel over. He has been better since he went to the 20th memorial at Anfield with my granddad. It sounds like you both have some survivors guilt. I haven't managed to get my Dad to seek help but I would advise talking to someone. I know how upset I get when I see my Dad suffer and if you have children they probably do too. Best wishes to you and thank your lucky stars you did make it out alive. YNWA JFT96 xxx
Stuart Perks respect to you man x RIP the 96
MYGOD!!!! Stuart. What a terrible tragedy....what terrible lies. I can't imagine how you feel and what those precious 96 and their families, feel. I'm in Canada and I'm an avid Liverpool supporter. I watched the match on telly over here and i was horrified to see what transpired. You were there. It must have been awfully horrific for you. My prayers and thoughts are with you, the families and those lovely 96 supporters that lost their lives. I'll always pray for them. I still can't stop from crying. GOD BLESS!!!!!!

YNWA brothers and sisters.
actually justice was served reasonably quickly with the heysel incident, not like in corrupted england.
Glad The Truth Got Out With Thatcher Had Fucking Died That Night.
Do Nottingham Forest play on Hillsborough?
@hijimi no. Nottingham Forest play at the City ground. Sheffield Wednesday play at that H ground(I'm not saying that name
Justice 96 we will never forget now you can sleep in peace for the family and all of Liverpool keep going on fighting with some justice
Jon-Paul Gilhooey (I hope I spelled that right) was the youngest victim, and also Steven Gerrard's cousin.
@donovanemery597 yeah he was 10 years old. Steven was 8 at the time
Because they don't hold a memorial service where Liverpool fans, players, staff and manager grieve and mourn for dead Liverpool fans and fight for truth and justice because no Liverpool fans died at Heysel and there is no fight for truth of justice.
They don't not play on Hillsborough just because it's the anniversary of a sporting disaster, they don't play because they are busy doing something much more important than playing, attending the memorial service.
great video justice took time but thank goodness rip 96 23 yrs of hurt over for the families btw I'm a Spurs fan rem 81
In response & support for metalboostable, I was there, it was the fencing in and the lack of organisation by individuals within organisations... not terracing, so I say bring it back with appropriate safety-staffing, that would respect the 96!
why was the kick off not delayed to get fans in without crushing ?
ashley lovestennis it was delayed but only by 20 minutes.
no no they kicked off at 3pm as scheduled
Andy why didn't the TV channels who had the video evidence question too?
Loads of lies but also the world was different. Fans, football was seen as scum, police often hated fans. hooliganism was very very common. ironially not with Liverpool supporters, though Hysel had happened four years before and tainted many peoples minds of Liverpool fans. media etc always want easy answers, sound bites et...many were in bed with police, hence how the over up was so easy. football fans were seen as scum, so why listen? Not my argument of course but that is how many saw it. Some evidence was hidden, not all footage was revealed I believe. It is sadly easy to feed people lies and make them believe they are seeing something they are not. What was really sick was the police on the ground, crushing was common at that end. It happened in 81, 87, 88, yet they did nothing about it. so they knew. But in this case the scene was so different, the noises from the fans, the look, they could see people dying yet did nothing.
Rip 96. Arsenal fan
well said PhilI hope these families get some solace for being vindicated! I doubt itThese people did nothing but lie from 3.15pm on that day! The rag tabloids[the s##] mckenezie should be jailed for his part in adding torture to these families by allowing those lies to be printed
Can’t believing I am agreeing with the journalist from the Daily Mail.
Justice at last 96- 66 in memory of fans who never returned,

It has taken 23 years. Repeat after me, It has taken 23 years. That's, taken.
7 YEAR OLD GIRLS DIED
But still, Football lost its atmosphere. They should ask german authorities how to manage a standing crowd in the football stadium. In Dortmund, you have a teen thousand wall behind them and they are doing just fine.

justice for the heysel 39!
justice for the saville 200!
There are at least 5000 fans in Liverpool who are grateful to the Police for letting them into the ground so they could see the game without any delay, having travelled from Liverpool to Sheffield you can imagine how annoying it was thinking that they'd not get into the ground before the Kick Off. Some exploded with anger, some tried climbing the walls, many cursed the Police and each other. After all these years there's no point in trying to name and shame them, that should have been done within 7 days of this very sad tragedy. I have no further interest in this matter, and like 60 million others feel its been dragged out to whitewash Liverpool as a city. I like Liverpool, to me its the heart of Lancashire, and the home of dozens of blue collar celebrities. The Police were not to blame, how could there be, so blame the runners to the front. Good luck and respects.
+PipersSon I see that you haven't taken my advice and researched what happened at Hillsborough
'The Police were not to blame'
Even though 3 inquiries found they were from Thatchers Taylor report to Independent Panel and now the longest running inquest which found no actions by the fans caused or contributed to the tragedy
+PipersSon Please tell me what you believe happened at Hillsborough including the response to the crush that leaves the police without culpibility
Kelvin, is that you?
it took 23 years for the police, yet 27 years for liverpool to actually take the blame for heysel.
charlie bird ben morley jog on you fucking bellend
Shithouse
They already took the blame you knob. They never denied what they did
