I worked for people who thought doing stone with a concrete truck was too expensive. My feeling is the labor you save alone offsets the cost. I also like using a vacuum truck to remove excess soil for Philadelphia basement dig outs and underpinning.

That's always been our approach to customers, and if we are really unsure, we make a sample board of what they want so they can visualize it. Great job as always Tom!

I agree with you 100 percent about asking the customer for their opinion on a color. Color an look are a perception thing. When you have 10s of thousands of dollars laying on the ground, you want to make darn sure your customer will love it. I'm a contractor in the same county as you for close to 15 years, and all of my customers have appreciated being involved. Thanks for everything you share with us.

Morning Tom! Didn't do concrete, but did do pavers. We always listened to the customer's wants and ideas, but weren't afraid to let them know if we felt something was "off". Remember, you are the professional and do this every day, they do it once. Most times, the customer's could see our point and changes would be made, either to the color selection, layout, elevations, etc. Sometimes they'd want to stick to their original plans, that's good too - they're the ones paying. If they're happy, then everything's good. We, as contractors can only control our quality of work. Colors, design, etc. are either the homeowner or designer. We can suggest, but ultimately it's their choice. It is painful to do a great job, but have it impacted by some of the customer's choices.

      Very well said Terry!
I was a building/ remodeling contractor for over 40 years so can relate for great customer service.
You just need to show the professionalism that Tom does & you'll be ok.
When I had a customer that was apprehensive & I thought they could make a better choice, I'd just say with a heavy emphasis & a smile, "Are YOU sure"??? This usually took care of things quickly. If they wanted it their way, I'd just make very detailed notes.😄

Had one customer specify concrete as black as we could get it for a front sidewalk stamped with a Belgian block profile. They insisted that they knew what they wanted.
It wasn't cheap since stamping is more work and pigmented concrete costs a lot more. But the end result, when driving past, looked like they cheaped out and got an asphalt sidewalk.
Apparently they had seen something in a magazine for Halloween decorating ideas and liked it.

I have actually excused myself before starting a job at the last minute because of a misunderstanding on their part. There were no hard feelings but it would not have worked the way they wanted.

Ps: forgot about the Question of talking with the customer when doing something different to your normal techniques. Yep 100% Agree - When in doubt - talk it out. The greenish hue may look terrible to you , but the customer loves it, or vice versa... Never hurts to discuss with your customer, i see it as good business, and i would appreciate a Contractor discussing things like that with me, because it would not be putting doubt in your customers mind, because your excellent work speaks for itself..
Me personally, i think you did what is right, go with your gut, and i KNOW your honest, and do great work.... 👍

Good morning Tom, your decision to move Lock Step with your Customers is something that you can be proud of and I hope the word of mouth chain of the neighbourhoods is reflecting the added benefit and it’s reflected in their smiles. Great looking job Tom, i really like the black and the Charcoal, my fav. Border everything looked really good. I had an idea, you may have already thought of but, numbering your videos. Reason a potential customer sees a drive, patio, basement what every they really like, they can tell you> " i want something like your video # 6-12/24-1 "or something etc. Donna could perhaps do that fairly easy on the editing, not sure, and it may not work for you. Just a thought. love the videos Brother :) 💯🙏

If you were able to get a sample of the certain release from your supplier and make a 2’x2’ or smaller sample and put sealer on it. That may be something worth doing to save headaches and money , something with stamps in the winter make a display of stamps and do different colors of release that are most common for people to see just a thought .

That mostly makes sense for the combinations that there aren't photos of actual work. Or for unique settings. The concrete can't just look good in isolation. It has to fit in with everything around it. Smaller samples can be taken to the job site to try to see how a proposed texture and color would work against the house/deck/landscaping.

I think using your UA-cam videos as sort of a catalog is a great idea. The projects ive seen you do would be perfect to give me the ideas for my patio or driveway. The pool pour was my favorite this video. Borders really make the pour shune, but that black border was amazing. Such beauty in their backyard. I agree w you, if you could have got on their balcony and filmed, that angle would have been super good, or drone shot. One thing i have to say, if your customer has just moved to your area, then maybe they aren't familiar w TSH. But if they've been living there, there's no way they can't be familiar w your work. TSH is the company to go to for top notch quality. For tedious jobs most companies won't touch. For high end homes. For concrete pours done artistically, that's TSH. So there's little to nill chance anyone will wonder if you know what you're doing. Quality first. Example; the really high end home that had exposed aggregate walks connecting the buildings. The pour happened on a very cold day. The ground was too cold. The edges of the walks cracked, like the next day. You showed us all of it. We saw you handle that in such a cool, calm way, I was amazed. All that beautiful, expensive work was pulled up and hauled off and redone like it was an everyday occurrence. The frozen sub base was overlooked. You learned from that. We learned that any defect in your work will be corrected wout emotion or delay. That's double quality. Quality work and quality crew. Oh, you know what you're doing, and if something is overlooked or goes south, TSH will, wout hesitation, correct and make it right. We saw this on video, so it's very true! The basement steps on Tommy's house, there's some video proof of the artistic quality TSH possess. The gaslit diving rock on your pool is another. With the library of videos showcasing TSH out there for anyone wanting a top notch pour to see, gives us a little catalog of pours to choose from. So cool! TSH benefits from your videos. We enjoy your videos. Your family and friends are in some videos, so there's sentimental benefits. So, turning that camera on is a very good thing, indeed. Today's video was awesome!! Thanks!!👍❤️🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲

I wouldn't like it if the contractor have doubt's and didn't address the issues and I wasn't happy with the end results. It just shows your integrity, professionalism and pride you take in your work.
