Thank you Melanie for your wonderful tips especially your last one. You were the best with your beautiful smile and encouraging words. You will be so very much missed!💝😍💕💗❤
May God Bless your Beautiful Sweet Spirit 😇 and may your Loving Family be Comforted by it always. Thank you for sharing your Amazing Talent with us all in the Crafting World. You are! ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
I found out today how 'really' important it is to clean your machine! My 'low bobbin' notice stopped working. I called the dealer and she gave me some help over the phone on what to do. I didn't realize I was skipping the part of moving my needle wheel a 1/2 turn to get out more lint from the bobbin case! What a difference. And How dirty...the low bobbin notice is now working. And thank you for talking about the pre-cuts and lines on the ruler. I didn't know about going to the edge of the pre-cut or including the ruler line. I will certainly be using this new info in my future projects. Thank you so much! Judy-NC
I loved this video! Thank you! Your last tip regarding perfectionism was my favorite tip even though your other 9 tips were great! What makes a handmade project special are the "imperfections" Those make it unique and shows how someone did their best and put so much time and effort into making it special. Just my personal opinion. : )
Awesome! Thanks for the information. I'm a newbie, and supposed to go to my first class in North Carolina the week of June 13-18, 2022. Excited to learn something new.
Thank you so much Melanie for the precut measuring by the outer pinked edge tip!!! I always would wonder about that and wonder why I would get a wonky result!!! This helps so much. And for all the other tips too!!!
Thank you so much for the information! I just wish I would have watched this before I bought my thread and completed my 1st four blocks! But I just wanted you to know that everyone of your tips was useful in my case as I'm not associated with people from the quilting community so you've answered most of the questions I had regarding things I needed to know!!
I absolutely LOVE your tutorials, Melanie! You taught me to Crochet & sew so many awesome projects. Soon, I'll be Quilting along with you & others. I'm so excited to be joining the Sunny Star Quilt along! Thank you for the tips! Blessings~
I’m a newbie and I was wondering if you like using fat quarters and if they’re easier because all the colors go together? I love watching your videos, so easy to follow, you make me want to start quilting.
Maria Chung - just realized myself, but this beautiful angel, Melanie Ham, is in the afterlife now. Hoping to make my first quilt one day and plan to utilize her expertise as well. Grateful her channel lives on 🦋
Love your videos! I'm new at quilting and sewing so I appreciate all your wisdom. I have a thread question ... when quilting can you use a poly thread?? And when would/could you? Found a great sale on thread super excited to start my thread collection- ugh it's poly!!
You are so cute, i believe you did a video on a gallery wall that was easy enough for me to do and it came out so cute!! Thanks for your time in explaining. I have been quilting some 30 yrs but have always sewed but got the quilt bug!!!
Amen sister on Change the needle. You should change it every 8 hours of sewing. I buy the organ needles in bulk and change needles often. I would like to add, you mention quarter inch foot. But many quarter inch feet are NOT sewing a quarter inch, they are off. For this reason, every quilter should do the quarter inch TEST to confirm it's right. The one where you sew three 2.5 inch squares together, and then measure the center square. The center square should measure 2 inches, or the 2 inch lines of the ruler should fall inside the sewn square for a scant.. You'd be shocked how many quarter inch feet are wrong, and quilters just assume they are accurate. Then their sewing is off and they don't understand why. You could demo the TEST on your channel. It's the only true way to know if you are sewing an accurate 1/4 or scant 1/4
What else does one need to purchase in order to do the quilt-along? Do u have a kit or do we use our own stash? I'm def thinkin about it!! That's prob the only way I'm gonna actually finish my first quilt!!!! Lol!! 😆😂 Thanks Melanie!! 🙋
Hi Elle! It does not include a kit, you are welcome to use your stash or purchase what you need from the instructions. This course is using mostly solids or prints that read as solids, so many people already have what they need! The price includes the video instructions (probably 25-30 videos by the end), pdf downloads, and private group. Would love to have you!
Hi Melanie..loads of love from India..huge fan of your work and you..but i have a question, might sound dumb to you but i am really confused with this..do you say measurements like length x width or width x length..? Here in India,we follow length x width pattern but seems like in US and UK ,does pattern gets changed as there you follow imperial scale.. would love to have your reply..and also does all others quilters follow this pattern as well.?
Shrawder Desiree.shrawder yes, price of the course is for all of the video instruction, PDF patterns and private group so all other materials are on your own.
Hi Melanie, I am going to be traveling for a week. I don't have a small portable sewing machine to take with me. Is it ok to hand sew my quit blocks by hand and finish the quilting stitches when I come back home?
new lessons will come out every 2 weeks giving you ample time to complete that weeks tasks. Wouldn't even have to worry about doing that if you don't want to!
Hi Melanie. I have a question. My quilts seem to be a little wavy on the edges of the blocks and borders and when quilts all the layers together the quilt puckers a little. Do you have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening?
I had planned on doing a 4th, but they haven't been doing very well in terms of views and they are quite a lot of work. I probably will eventually but I wanted to get to some other requested videos ;)
I've made lots of quilts... and my problem is so elementary.... I can't cut with a rotary blade and get a clean cut EVER! Yes I change blades... but always threads attached... even with on 2 layers. What in the world am I doing wrong???
😢 agree. I rewatched this and her 2 part binding videos as a refresher before I bind my next quilt. I still can't believe she's gone!!! She gave so much to this world and continues to do so through her UA-cam videos.
I'm sorry. Your lips and the audio do not align. Is that a problem on my side? I have not had this problem with other videos. I have not seen anyone else mention it? I'm aware needles need changing. Really interested in your video but it is so discombobulated I'm having a hard time deciphering it. Do you have a secret decoder ring?
Thank you keeping Melanie’s videos up. I taught myself to quilt by watching her videos. I keep referring back to them for my projects all the time.❤
me too!
Thank you Melanie for your wonderful tips especially your last one. You were the best with your beautiful smile and encouraging words. You will be so very much missed!💝😍💕💗❤
RIP Melanie. You were one of the best!!!
Love Melanie's spunky personality in this video. I will continue watching and learning from her videos.
May God Bless your Beautiful Sweet Spirit 😇 and may your Loving Family be Comforted by it always. Thank you for sharing your Amazing Talent with us all in the Crafting World. You are! ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for sharing your experience. This is very helpful for me, I'm a new quilter. ❤
You are absolutely my favorite human to watch! I love the way you explain things and you have really helped me move forward in my quilting journey.
Use painter's tape to mark the seam allowance you're using on the machine, it's easier to follow and way more visible than the markings it comes with.

Judy L Sanvitis but some ruler lines are thicker than others, so I was trying to guess the middle of the thick ones?

Thanks Melanie for reminding us to enjoy the process most of all and not to obsess about being perfect. :-)

Hey M! Thanks for the tips!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you, love your videos!
Hi Melanie. Great tips. I starch before cutting. I think it makes cutting so much easier. What are your thoughts?
Totally! I don't always us it but especially if there is some more detailed piecing than I definitely do.

My biggest hang up is making imperfect seams, cuts, you name it! I'm working on my obsessive nature. Thanks for permission to be imperfect!
Thanks Melanie! Your pretty awesome!!!
Missing Melanie ❤
I always heard to prewash..but I usually don't. now I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
Prewashing for sure if you are sewing clothes or something that has to fit, but otherwise seems like too much work haha!
Thanks Melanie.🌹
Your awesome Melanie.
Excellent tips.

Hey Melanie
can I use my rotary cutter without a rotary cutting mat. will it be OK to use a rotary cutter without a rotary cutting mat.
no, you need a self healing mat underneath or it will damage your surface ;)
No no no no!
Best advice!!!
Thank you
What kind of cotton thread do you use??
Thank you, Melanie!
awesome info!! thanks
I always measure twice before cutting...especially if I'm tired 😬
Totally! Or if I've had a glass of wine ;) ;)
Include the line in your cut.. not sure what this means, do you have an example? ☺️
Can you link your Etsy shop in the description please I would love to look at your shop
Happy first day of summer, thanks for sharing.

Thank you!
What sewing machine do you use that has a larger space between the needle and the motor?
Pat Reynolds get yourself a vintage singer. Great straight stitcher and large space
Prewash FLANNEL. It shrinks A LOT.
