Hi Melanie! I've watched all five videos and have taken lots of notes. I believe I can speak for all of and say Thank You for sharing your knowledge with us. I'm very very new to sewing. I'm looking forward to ordering my fabrics, and other materials that will help me with the process of successfully making a quilt. All of the information you've provided me with has allowed me to feel comfortable with moving forward with making the quilt. Thanks!
Just finished my first baby quilt for my new grandson. This tutorial was a godsend, thankyou so much. Your teaching style is wonderful. On to next quilt!!
Wow truly the best instructions on how to make a quilt I have come across, fantastic Melanie thankyou. I have been collecting fabric for a few years now so i can make all my grandchildren a quilt each. And every time I go to start one I chicken out and end up doing something else. Tonight I have sat and watched all 5 of your videos and I'm ready to get into it. You have made it look so easy and your nice clear instructions are wonderful. Thank you again for your great set of videos. I will certainly recommend them to all my friends and family and look forward to seeing more of your how too videos. Kind regards Kaz 🌹
I found this quilting series very helpful! I have never quilted before. I wanted to repair a quilt of my husband's that a dear friend, who recently passed away, made for him about 25 years ago. Since the quilt was only tied together, it was falling apart. I watched your videos in this series several times and figured out how to take the quilt sandwich apart, re-sew the squares on the top layer, add new batting, and put the three pieces back together with new binding fabric. It took several hours to fix this quilt, but I did it with your help! My husband was so happy to have his favorite quilt back! Thank you so much for putting this series together.
I have always been intimidated making a quilt. My very first quilt was not enjoyable. I made it for my grandson it was an attic window one and I loved it and I regret not taking a pic of it. No cell phones back then and I didn’t have a camera. But you start off with “don’t freak out” and those were the magic words I needed to hear to start making this quilt!! It’s been 16 years since my baby quilt! Wish me luck!🙏🏼
Hi Melanie, I want to thankyou, for your series on making a quilt,I've always wanted to start learning to make a quilt, with lockdown I decided to start after watching your series, you've been a great teacher and I've had so much fun and have just completed my first quilt and now I'm totally addicted to patchwork,so thankyou so much, for all you've taught me! God Bless you Love from Sally,Queensland Australia😊💓🌼
You changed my life a couple of years ago with this series. I'm now on my 3rd quilt, and now I hand piece and hand quilt! Thank you more than words can say.
Hi Melanie! Thank you so much for this tutorial series! I just finished my first quilt and followed your instructions every step of the way. Your instructions were very easy to follow, the tutorials were just the right length, and to the point (thankfully no silly chitchat that you see in so many tutorials). You are my go-to online quilting guru!
You are the best that I have run across! I love your tips. You are so good at making instructions easy for a beginner to understand. I love the way that you encourage a quilter as you teach. Its ok to make mistakes! Can't wait to watch more!
I just found you and I just started quilting I am 71 and my children want me to leave them a blessing to remember me by or because I love them I want to do it my mother had quilted me a top but before she could finish making the Quilted part of it she passed away. I was so honored to be able to finish it for her and it is a loving part that I will pass down to my oldest daughter. Thank you for you're 5 videos. At the time I was watching them I didn't realize that you had done them quite a long time ago but I certainly do appreciate all of the information that I have gleaned from them and now I can start or I should say finish what I started thank you so much God's blessings
I cant thank you enough for putting this series together. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to learn quilting through my grandma (my mom never learned) but she taught me hand embroidery. We lived about 5 hours away and didn't the time. Ive always wanted to learn how to quilt and this provided the perfect avenue to learn. My quilt will be given to my gma... Cant wait to finish. Thanks so much!!
Thanks so much for putting together this quilting series! You've managed to make a very intimidating project (for first timers) so approachable. I made my first ever quilt for my baby that's due in a few months and I couldn't be more proud of it!
Melanie your instructions include many things that other tutorials take for granted that we already know, thanks for the specific tutorials that you provide. I am a newbie, and doing my first quilt. You understood, how I was stressing about, well little things. Thanks for letting me know, "Its okay, it will turn out fine". Keep up the great fun tutorials and teaching us this art.
Thank you so much for this series, Melanie! I feel so much more confident and am ready to get started on my first quilt! I especially love that you encourage us to not worry about perfection and to enjoy the process. I need that reminder often! Your work is beautiful and so are you! =)
I found your how to videos this year and I love them. You are so natural and infuse simplicity and understanding for us beginners. Thank you so much. When I’m done, I will post a picture. I followed all your 5 part series to the end. Only difference is I jumped in feet first with a queen size quilt! Thank you again Melanie Ham.
Melanie, I discovered your videos today and I'm happy I did. I've been wanting to quilt for a while now but I've been very hesitant about it. Watching this series, helps me be more confident about starting my first quilting project. I'm excited to watch more videos of yours!
This is such a great series of videos. I've made my first cot quilt using your videos to do each step. thank you so much; I love watching your tutorials. x
I made my very first quilt following this series. Thank you so much! I'm a quilter now!!! You made the steps manageable and you didn't stress me out or expect perfection which I love! I'm already planning my next project!!
Your Quilting Videos are the Best!! I am a self taught quilter, however, I have learned so much from watching all your Quilting videos!, THANK YOU so very much for taking the time to make these videos! I am now believer and follower!!
Wow! I'm currently suffering from jetlag (it's 3 a.m. here) and I actually watched all 5 parts of your quilting series in one go. I've been wanting to try quilting but have been feeling intimidated. Your videos have helped me to get a really good overview and encouraged me to try one. Thank you, you did an EXCELLENT job on this!
On Amazon.ca I purchased friction dots that you put on the underside of your rulers to prevent slipping also to make picking up the rulers, I have arthritis, and I made a loop of tape on the top of the rulers to help me pick them up, these things really help me.
Thank you Melanie. Your instruction videos are awesome to follow and learn from. Your presentation style is very clear, concise and worth a million dollars. Anne Martin Hopkinton, Mass 2/14/2021
I'm working on the binding of my first quilt, and this series has been an amazing reference! I don't think I would have been brave enough to try quilting without it, and I'm so glad I did.
Hi 👋🏼... just wanted to say “thank you”. One day i decided I wanted to start sewing/quilting (no experience EVER). I came across your videos and they have been a blessing. So easy to understand, follow along, so much clarity with terminology....I made my first baby blanket with this series of videos, it wasn’t perfect but I love it. I understand where I went wrong and how I can fix it, next time. So again, thank you, thank you, thank you. ♥️🥰
I just found your channel a few weeks ago and I just wanted to tell you that this quilt series was one of the best I've ever seen! You are very thorough and you explain things so well! You explained the corner binding better than anyone else! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us! God Bless You!
Hi Melanie I love your tutorials you explain the quilting process so well. I have only made one quilt and that was a few years ago for a friends baby girl. Now I am having my own baby girl due in September I am so excited to get going and make my daughter her first quilt. Thank you all the way from New Zealand!

Wow. What an incredible series!! Thank you so much. I am mentally preparing myself for my first quilt and these videos have been a huge help. My next stop is your blog so I can make decisions on specific items I still need to get. I am so excited to get started!!
Thank you so much for this series! Such an incredible resource! I am in the middle of my first lap-sized quilt and it is all thanks to you. Thanks for being the best teacher ever:)
This series is AWESOME!! I am waiting on my walking foot to come so I decided to go ahead and watch these. I am so thankful for you sharing your time and knowledge. It is much appreciated!
You do such an amazing job explaining. This is the first tutorial that has made me confident enough to attempt quilting from beginning to end without any outside help. I think after 25 years of making quilts I can stop calling myself a beginner! Thank You!
My first quilt just made it out of the washing machine successfully! I couldn't be happier, thank you so for the instructions and inspiration! I always wanted to make a quilt and I did it :) Already looking for fabric for the second...
Melanie, I'm not sure if you'll even see this, but I started out wanting to make a quilt for a loved one and I came across your quilting series. Thinking I could do it, I didn't start small... I started with a queen size one. After much time and many views of your series, I finished it today!! It turned out so much better than I imagined it would (there are several imperfections). I just wanted to thank you very much for the series.
Thank you so much for this series! I'm about to sit down (with my cup of tea) and hand stitch the binding on my third quilt! I've re-watched this series SO many times as I've worked through the quilts. I can absolutely relate to your words of wisdom at the end. My first quilt had a few mistakes that I was able to learn from, and my second quilt was much better. This third quilt is the largest I've done yet, and I'm so happy with the result! I'm ecstatic to give my goddaughter this quilt for her crib bedding :) It's flannel on the front and minky on the back, so it's very snuggly soft :) Thanks again!
I just found this site, Melanie. You have the perfect soothing voice for tutorials, easy to understand instructions and even the jitters go away as you talk about your beginning experiences. It's fantastic to hear "Just enjoy the process" or "It will be beautiful no matter how you choose your fabrics or how you choose your quilting pattern".... BIG INSPIRATION there! You have that "Just Do It" personality and that's what life is all about. Thank you so much for the time and effort you've invested in tutorials for those of us beginners who need gentle guidance and confident creativity as we move forward in our Quilting Endeavors! *All Is Well With My Soul*
Melanie, thank you so much for taking the time time make this video!!! You cover everything in such detail and it's fun to watch you! I'm working on my first quilt and these are the best videos I have found.
Watched all 5 videos and tried my first quilt. Took me about 12 hours. I didn't buy precut fabric which took longer and made it uneven but overall happy with my first try. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. The gloves sure do make moving quilt under machine easier. Arranging the pieces was also a very valuable tip. Would share a photo but don't know how!
i have been quilting for many years and agree with you completely about quilts are for using, not just looking at. one extra tip about washing them. if you are concerned at all about colors running, i toss in a " color catcher " sheet. they are found with the dryer sheets. they catch all the colors that run and will save your quilt. usually when i give a quilt to somebody, i give them a box of color catcher too.
@@dolorestighe7663 I never prewash. I like the sizing that is in the fabric and with no danger of colors bleeding (as long as you use color catcher) I find it a wasted step.
@@dolorestighe7663 it depends on the fabric and project you're doing. Most fabric you'd use for quilting won't need prewashing unless it has a lot of red because red dyes bleed easier than other colors. But mostly you'd want to prewash if you're doing clothes or costumes or anything that is fitted as a precaution for fabric that is giving or can shrink. But for quilting or even just throws and blankets it's not as important. But imo I'd still prewash if it's high red saturation at least once so it doesn't bleed onto your light fabric once it's together. At least that's my thoughts. ^-^
I just sewed my first square. I have watched a lot of videos (as I do when I want to do anything) but it was definitely your passion and encouragement that got me to sew the first square. thank you.
This has definitely encouraged me to make a quilt for myself, I will definitely reflect and use this playlist to help me with my first quilt. Thank you so much Melanie
Wow! What a great instructional tutorial! I have made several quilts....none of them masterpieces..but each done with love for one to receive them. I can spot mistakes in each one but with each one I learn and improve. Your videos are easy to follow and I will go where you go💁🏻
I am calling it my "Quarantine Quilt" ...I was making masks so I was in my scrap bag, but some were not suitable but so pretty so I just started sewing them together! THANK YOU for showing me how to get it finished :-)
I loved your tutorial videos!! I appreciate so much your doing it slowly for beginners. You're beautiful, and I love your enthusiasm!! Thank you so much!!

Melanie, you are awesome! Thank you so much for your knowledge and for your ability to share that knowledge so clearly with all of us. You are truly a blessing to those of us who need a bit of guidance in the quilt making process. I feel as if I have a friend right here with me in my sewing room! I just finished a large t-shirt quilt for my son. And you are right. When I was making and attaching the label at the end, I was so happy to know I was finished! Best wishes to all of my fellow quilters out there. I always felt very alone in this process but after watching this video and reading the many comments, I feel as if we are all in this together. : )
This series has been a great help in giving me confidence to finish my quilted wall hanging. Willl be making the quilt sandwich tonight. then Sunday i will start the machine quilting.

I can't tell you how much I learned from your five part videos. You are so easy to learn from and cute too. I'm starting tomorrow.
Watching this series has been like seeing a magician reveal his secrets! I can't wait to make a quilt!
i have been quilting for many years and agree with you completely about quilts are for using, not just looking at. one extra tip about washing them. if you are concerned at all about colors running, i toss in a " color catcher " sheet. they are found with the dryer sheets. they catch all the colors that run and will save your quilt. usually when i give a quilt to somebody, i give them a box of color catcher too.
Should u not wash material before u start quilting
I am going to make a flag quilt will the color catching sheets keep the blue and red from bleeding into the white?
@@midnttigr1 it absolutely will! It will be beautiful.
Thank you so much for teaching me how to make and complete my first quilt!! You are a great instructor!
You've helped me so much and taught me a new way to do binding which is more agreeable than the other ways. Thank you again!!
