  • I had to replace the control circuit board to fix my problem. I paid a repair man about $300 for that. He also adjusted the sensitivity on the drain pump sensor. But it definitely was not a problem with the water level sensor. Well worth the money to fix it though, it's working great now. I love our ice maker.

Your problem is with the evacuation pump that pumps off the water that goes down the bin drain. I fixed mine yesterday. There is a reservoir that collects water from the bin drain. It is inside the back bottom cover. If that reservoir gets too full, the power to the ice maker will be cut off to prevent the bin from overfilling with water. Mine was caused by a restricted one way valve on the pump outlet but it could also be caused by any restriction in the line. Pull off the drain line where it connects under the sink. Then start the ice maker. It should be capable of a strong stream of water. If it’s not pumping much volume, that’s your problem. The response from that said the technician replaced the control panel also mentioned he made an “adjustment” to the bin drain pump. There is no adjustment. The control panel didn’t fix that problem. He either fixed a blockage in the drain line or replaced that one way valve.

There seems to be some question as to the correct diagnosis to the problem, which is over-filling of the water reservoir. Memongo23 suggests that the problem is the control board as replacing it fixed his machine. Mike Witney suggests the problem is the water drain pump. I think I have that right but maybe I’ve misinterpreted their positions somewhere. I have this same problem with my machine and have replaced the water level sensor which did not fix my problem. I’m not convinced the drain pump is bad as I cannot detect voltage at the pump plug site at any point in the ice making process. So I “think” the problem os the control board. Does anyone know of a way to bench test the pump? I thought if I plugged it into a12V DC source (ie, a battery) it should work, but it just freezes in position-or rotates 180 degrees if I switch polarity. Any thoughts on any of this?

The exact same thing is happening to my icemaker. Have you found a solution yet?

I seem to be having the same issue. Did you get the repair through contacting Kitchenaid?

why does it flash "add cleaner" after pressing the cleaning cycle button? And why does it say "needs cleaning" when turning it back on after running the cleaning cycle? This machine is a pain. It makes no sense that its still making ice when its turned off.
