*VERY LONG COMMENT REVOLVING AROUND CENSORED FOOTAGE*
For those that have watched or are currently watching the video, you will have noticed a few scenes that are heavily censored to the point where you can’t see a thing. This was done to follow UA-cam’s guidelines. I tried many different edits, and each of them were flagged except for what you’ve just seen. Maybe I could’ve made it slightly clearer, but I’m just glad I was able to get SOMETHING approved by UA-cam’s system. I know the heavy pixelation makes for a lacking viewing experience. Trust me, I felt gutted by how much I had to censor these scenes. I don’t feel like they have the same effect as what I originally censored.
So because of this, I decided to give the names of the clips here for those that are curious so you can search them up and watch. I can’t post the links here since I would be violating UA-cam’s guidelines. I MUST warn you all though, some of these clips are really graphic. So those that don’t wish to see the clips, I’ll provide time stamps along with descriptions of what is being shown for each one (I would’ve added them in the video, but UA-cam is sensitive to certain words for some reason.)
A little unrelated, but I’ve also linked all the articles I used for this video. During the period where UA-cam was reviewing the video, I realized I should've included more screenshots showing the information. I’ll be sure to cite this information more in future videos.
    6:35
(The description I give in the video is accurate enough but here is the video nonetheless. Audio had to be altered. )
Video name: “Asian kid getting his ass whooped after spending $45,000 on virtual items for video games” on Reddit.
    7:20
(The blurred footage here shows a lifeless body laid out on the floor in an internet cafe, surrounded by dozens of other people. A kid is shown crying and being taken away from the scene. As several people crowd around the body, you can see a few teens still playing at their computers while the body lies dead behind them. They’re completely ignoring the situation. More info in the video link.)
Video name: “Gamer who died in internet cafe is not discovered for four hours” found on UA-cam.
    7:41
(The video is a timelapse of a Taiwanese man who is seen slowly leaning back into his chair. His body is completely stiff as his back is arched tightly with his chest sticking out. His head is knocked back all the way at an usual angle with his neck completely exposed. Throughout the timelapse, several other young people walk around him, completely oblivious to his state. The players around him have their eyes glued to their own screens. In a article published by Time, it’s stated the man was unemployed for a long time and that these internet cafes were the only places he could go.)
Article link to learn more about the story: time.com/3673534/taiwan-video-game-death/
Video name: “Gamer found brain dead after a 42-hour nonstop gaming at an internet cafe.” found on Reddit.
    8:16
(The following blurred footage is a montage of young players playing on computers. The reason this footage was blurred was due to where the clips were found. The clips are zoomed in. The full images show other players lying in their chairs dead. The usage of these clips were to further show how locked in many people are at these cafes.)
    8:33
(In this video, you see another person seeing the same fate as the taiwanese man. Sort of. The video is posted on UA-cam and is titled: “OMG...Guy Has a Stroke In Internet Cafe.!!” I was not able to find an article that would give further information on his state of health, but because of how similar the clips are in terms of how his body moves and positions itself, and the child / man doesn’t seem to get proper treatment, it’s fair to assume the outcome is not positive.)
Video name: “OMG...Guy Has a Stroke In Internet Cafe.!!” found on UA-cam.
    16:13
(There are two separate clips being shown here. In the first one, it shows a student being slapped repeatedly by his teacher. The second clip shows a classroom filled with students. Some are sitting down, but most are standing. The ones that are standing have their heads down as their teacher goes around the room smacking each one. The audio had to be altered and I was unable to translate what he was saying. )
First video name: “Teacher in Xinjiang school slaps a Uyghur student for 11 times, even pulling his mask off.” found on reddit.
Second video name: “high school teacher slapping students in class” found on reddit.

Thank You for this. There are always ways around unjust rules and censorship. This is likely the best way as the people know what happens in this and can go search it online if they truly want to see it in full detail. Its all based on our own decision like it should be regardless.

As a Asian boy who spent a lot of time in internet cafe myself, I can give you an insider view.
First, I can check one thing out of the gate. GAMES AREN'T THE PROBLEM in the first place. For me, it was my famiy. It's broken. You guys not gonna believe if i tell you how most asian parents treat their children. They don't give a f**k about their children's mental health at all. It's so common to see parents shouting and beating their children in my country. No it's not like no one give a shit about it. They think it's a good thing. I even learn profanities from my mother because she used it a lot on me, not in a good way.
For people like me, internet cafes are like home, a place we can escape from that shitty reality of us. You guys are lucky to have family that really care about you. Here, all they care about is our social status.
Escape come first, competition come later.

I hate the absolute lie today that is IRL violence is caused by video games. Its just a scape goat for real issues that cause real violence.
But of course movies, tv shows, comics, and books with violence arent blamed at all or nearly the same extent, as gaming is seen as a new thing that is therefore a threat to pre existing way of life to people who know nothing about it.

I think this video is really good, but I feel like the other side of this was not explored enough. You mentioned once about how video games might not be the problem. I feel like adding more things about the growing debate over if video game addiction is actually real would have been beneficial. How we never attribute this amount of scrutiny to other things people can become obsessed with. We don’t hear about sports addiction because we view that activity as a net positive. You never explored the benefits of gaming, and never challenged some of the claims made in those clips. Especially the one where gaming is linked to dementia, which does not have any valid research to support, and in fact a lot of research concludes in the opposite direction. There’s a wide debate about using the term “addiction” in regards to video games or even sex addiction. We toss this term around to things that we view as unproductive or negative in society, and rarely want to explore further as to why people want to put all their time into gaming. I liked that you brought up loneliness and dopamine attributed to people constantly gaming. People who are “addicted” to gaming is more likely a symptom of a greater problem, like depression, ADHD, escape from trauma, loneliness, etc. I wish this was more explored, but I still loved the video regardless.

I just realized an upbeat comment is not FIT for this video at all- I love gaming- I'm sure of course others do too and It is deeply saddening that this has to be this way- games created out of love and care cause many people to fall over and not be alive afterward-.. But it is something for someone who loves this media to see between the lines and speak out about it- Thank you for speaking out about this problem- no-matter how difficult it may have been to see your favorite mediums take peoples lives away from what matter..
Just because of escapism.. just because people's lives are so difficult that they need a way to distract themselves away from the pressure of the world... and how in the end-
      They don't care...

Yeah this was such a complex video to make. So many perspectives and sides revolving around "gaming." (thing i would've said if i commented before watching the whole video, because of course i watched the whole video before commenting, like a good little viewer): In the end I think excessive gaming is a symptom. That kid wouldn't've drained his parents' savings account if X and Y, thousands of students wouldn't be camped in internet cafes if it weren't for A and B. The stories you hear coming out of SEA, their work culture, the oppressive state on a more abstract level, this kind of phenomenon almost feels like a natural consequence.

With a sibling so high in academics that I can’t compete with, I basically have given up good grades and spend all my free time gaming for at least 14 hours daily. I’m too unmotivated to do any homework. With so many metal problems that I keep to myself, I just keep playing to attempt to literally delay my distress and ignore reality as a whole. The problem about gaming isn’t necessarily the addiction but the audience it draws because there’s no reason to play if we enjoy life so for those who don’t…
