In 2011, shortly after dissolving LCD Soundsystem, founding band members James Murphy and Pat Mahoney appeared at Moogfest as the vinyl-spinning duo Special Disco Version. Electronic Musician’s Geary Yelton interviewed them in their dressing room just minutes after they wrapped up their set. In the first of three parts, they talk about why LCD Soundsystem had to end, fan reaction to the band’s breakup, and playing records onstage instead of instruments.
