Convoy M21H (XHP70.3 HI) Flashlight Review: Best Budget Pocket Rocket?

- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- This one hit me by surprise, the Convoy M21H with XHP70.3 HI. Huge output with over 300m throw. It manages to do that with a diffused TIR lens, something I haven't seen before. Essentially you get the smooth, floody beam, 180-degree spill + a large diffused hotspot. Definitely worth looking at if you're looking for an all-rounder flashlight. I added an M21B tail cap on the end, and it turns into a tactical flashlight! Anyway, watch my video to find out more. I have lots of beam shots this time.

Convoy M21H - XHP 70.3HI Notes
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• First single TIR lens Convoy flashlight I've owned. I don't think there are others. Interestingly it has a frosted TIR lens. Perhaps to smooth out the beam as these large LEDs can produce a darker area in the centre of the beam in smaller hosts.
• This light has one of the nicest beams I've seen on a light. 180-degree visibility, mostly flood with decent throw.
• Comes with USB-C charging, and a battery if pay a few more dollars.
• Comparison with other lights.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel, and reflector
• Diffused TIR lens design. Haven't seen something like this before and was skeptical at first. But I love it now. Glass lens in front of the TIR thankfully.
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• CCT, CRI, Ceiling bounce test
• Beautiful smooth beam as I mentioned before with surprisingly good throw, given the diffused lens... Thanks to the XHP70.3HI. Heat is managed well. The LED is very efficient @5A.
Considerations
• Head is a little bulky, but will still fit in your pocket
Verdict
This is a surprisingly good EDC, general-purpose flashlight that won't break the bank.
This is what i need. Simple UI. Easy access to turbo. Floody with good throw. I think i am goona buy one. Thanks!
Worth every cent, it's insanely bright and efficient
Man that xhp50.3 has so much potential. It could either be a floody or thrower depends on the host and reflector you choose 👍👍👍
Yeah :D this is the 70.3 hi which is the larger version.
@@DarrenYeoYT yeah mb 😂 xhp70.3 is what i meant too 😆
Good concise review of the M21H, Darren. Since you already have the M21H with the Cree XHP 70.3 High Intensity LED, you ought to try the M21H with the Getian GT green LED. 🙂Same floody-throwy beam output, except the color is a really intense deep green! 🔦💚
You love that Gentian GT LED mate. I might get one.
@@DarrenYeoYT Actually, I wish that Convoy had chosen some other host, like the M1, M2 or M21B instead of the M21H.
The very fact that this GT Green LED is housed in a diffusion style reflector makes it difficult to compare its raw distance performance against the CSLNM1.F1 emitter torches. 🤔
If you're able to transplant that regulated 8A driver and GT Green LED into a Convoy C8+ or L21A host, let me know! 😀
I love the look of that beam. It's just so clean looking with that larger throwy (yeah I know that throwy isn't a word, but it just describes it best) beam.😂😂
Yeah, it's amazing. I think this is a good alternative to those quad TIR led lights that produce a similar output.
Looks like my kind of light! I have the convoy M26C with 70.2 led smooth reflector and it has an awesome sorta combination beam. Its one of my favorites, but quite big. Almost like a beefed up C8. I have the 26650 version. More like a mini L6 in my opinion though. I may buy this because its smaller. M26C way too big for pants pocket. Fits good in jacket pocket though. Nice video
Awesome, I haven't seen the M26C yet, will check it out. This one has a really nice beam and I wonder what would happen if you put in one of those 5 degree TIR lenses, whether it'd focus the light nicely. Thanks man!
solid vid mate, appreciate the description notes
Thanks mate, glad you liked the video!!
The few reviews I have seen this light is only producing 2800im no where near 4000lm as advertised for a Convoy M21H XHP70.3 HI (R70)
2800 is common for XHP 70.3 high CRI, maybe this guy wrongly thought it was a R70?
Were they testing the R70 version?
@@DarrenYeoYT yes
Is this with the newer 8a driver?
What CCT did you order? It measures higher than 5000K, I was hopping the 5000K would measure near spec.
I'm waiting for Simon to release his new large TIR thrower to order it with this emitter.
Pretty sure this one was 6500K. I didn't know he was releasing one! Is it going to be a similar size to the TD01C or Acebeam L19?
@@DarrenYeoYT Yes, he has posted about it on his thread over at BLF, should be out in another month or two. He has some pictures and prototypes of his new lights there.
What colour temp emitter did you get? Looks very nice.
I got the higher K version, they tend to be brighter :)
@@DarrenYeoYTcan you confirm if it was the 6500k you got?
@@mM-bo4pv yes it is
Appears to be the same as the Convoy M26D (26800), though looks like it may have a bit more throw. Maybe a comparison? I too have a Sofirn IF22a (21700) that is quite the thrower for it's size. Which is why I purchased the Convoy M26D, but was a bit disappointed as it was more a flooder. I prefer a thrower, like the Convoy L8 (26800) but in a smaller EDC package. You?
Did you get the same LED? The 70.3 HI version. That one has more range than the normal 70.3. Yeah I always carry around high candela flashlights!
@@DarrenYeoYT -The box shows HXP70.3 (chinese) 6500k (more chinese) . Purchased 9/9/23 @ $44.63 shipped. I like the "feel" of this flashlight, but my go-to is currently the Convoy 3x21c. :-)
ah probs the normal domed version then. Have you tried the 3x21D ? He released a new regulated version a few days ago @@kauaikit
@@DarrenYeoYT -I bought it as the IF lens appeared the same as the Sofirn IF22a. I too have a Convoy L8, which too is a nice thrower like the 3x21d. So, I couldn't justify it. :-)
I don't understand why they don't provide a smooth reflector with an XHP led for longer throw? Everywhere I see these powerful LEDs are fitted with OP reflectors.
I think because it will be difficult to focus the LED. Larger LEDs need a big reflector to avoid donut holes. But can be done with a smaller OP I guess. Yeah maybe it's more work/testing?
M26C comes with smooth reflector. Bigger reflector though
Which one have more throw between M21H and S21E XHP50.3 HI ?
M21H throws 100m further. But it has XHP70.3HI , not 50.3HI
Ok Thank You 👍
What is the dimension of the lens? I've stumble on the seller that sells 8 degree lens with bead like diffuser that measures 35mm in diameter,17.8mm in diameter, I wonder if it fit to the housing.
convoy sells tir optics for these - starting from 3 degree spot optic. M21h comes stock with 12 degree beaded tir.
@@nihontoman yeah I also saw the seller sells that too, the stock 12degree seems to floody to my liking 😅
@@gonsungar9420 yep. would be interesting to see how that 70.3 behaves with the 3 degree tir. might be an absolute unit of a thrower!
I only have a ruler - I measured 35mm diameter and 17mm length.
@@DarrenYeoYT thanks for the information, I probably gonna buy the 3 degree flat tir for general duty and the 30 degree with strip diffuser for fun.
