For me this is the essence of music. You always expect something to happen, are curious about what will happen next. Long riffs and parts, mastery of instruments, awareness of what they're doing. Nice sounds all the way with distorted, sometimes non matching tones. Primus represents life. Hah I'm not even tripping I promise :D
So, I don’t have the full background here, but I imagine that this was quite a delight for the Primus fans as they got to see their band play right in the middle of their hiatus. At Golden Gate Park, no less.
man, these boys are just on a whole other level. ever since i first heard them when i was 9 years old they have just been my go to guys for when i want to hear something uniquely brilliant. you can listen to all sorts of bands and genres, but Primus... you feel and hear that shit. all of them are SO good, that, in almost another setup, (exceptions being the likes of Madeski Schofield, Martin and Wood etc) they would rule supreme. and despite their absolute control of their instruments they remain so humble, play together, SUPER tight and without ego. no one instrument attempts to dominate the spectrum - such is their understanding of musical theory to such a high level. and they play in unison, which is rare for musicians of their calibre, their own awesome, technically superb, pure fucking art. if you dont like primus, you are either deaf (in which case fair enough); or your knowledge of music is so limited that you really are not entitled to any meaningful opinion. you probably struggle with finger painting, making sure your velcro sneakers are on the right feet, and i would wager highly rate the kings of leon. Thanks Primus - you add to the VERY FEW reason why when the aliens come they should not kill us all. you're welcome for lunch at my place any time.
Yes Les, The Nightbreak was a friggin awesome music club on Haight! Nice set of the early Primus tunz- they would blow away the crowds with this stuff at the Berkeley Square and the Omni. That was a good time for the Bay area music scene- FNM, Deathangel, Fungo Mungo, Limbomaniacs, Psychefunkapus, MCM and the Monster, MIRV, the Deli Creeps, Rancid, & some cute kids called Green Day were stompin' all over the place.
What a great set list! I was so happy to see these guys in Boise last year....they'd come a couple years before that, but with opening bands, and a relatively tame hour long set. This last year, though, they finally played a show for Idaho on par with the epic concerts you can find online.
I saw them in 2004 with my dad when I was 14 and they played the entire Frizzle Fry album on that tour. Just Primus for 3 hours..no opening bands or anything else. Frizzle Fry plus a bunch of other stuff, an epic drum solo & drum/whamola solo, etc. To this day one of the best and most fun shows I've ever been to. Hard to believe it was 20 years ago.
Well this is fucking sick, Just what I'd expect to see from the great Mr Claypool. That's some great sound too they're fantastic live that would have been an awesome gig to see live!
This was so great. It’s amazing how they can riff like that then go back into the song. 34:40 Man, that look between those two is just perfect after that huge buildup and then booodup, bup, bup, lol.
I was there ! second time seeing them, first was in 1996 ... This was on festival Day 2, among others also saw Steve Winwood and the headliner Tom Petty & Heartbreakers. Day 1 headliner was Radiohead (In Rainbows) !
I’m kicking myself in the ass for not going when they came to Philly. I’m old so I saw them at least 5-6 times in the 90’s. Saw them at Woodstock ‘94 also.
At 13:33 Les says Tim "Herb" Alexander....did anyone watch that far into the video? Plus, as a very long time Primus fan, and a drummer myself, there's no question that's Tim's set and him playing alright.
Chris Dallaire i hate internet fights. guys, i'm a huge primus fan. primus fans are supposed to have each other's back when we say primus sucks. has the world gone mad!?
These 3 dudes right here... top tier yo. CLAYPOOL a god on the bass, looks like he barely even tryin, they all look like they barely even puttin any effort in, so fluid 😂😂😂 it’s ridiculous
Bc he wanted to be, Larry cut off an "American Life" JAM that coulda went 20mins+, such an intense jam that could of went farther than 11mins. Larry just stopped playing and then went into "Tweekers" which then also went 11mins..... Claypool, Alexender, Loland on fuggin fire.....
Well, I musta been shit hammed with my previous post. They all ended "American life" so my shit is wayy off from there. But I think the off-timing delivery of the lyrics is %100 intentional. Les n Larry get weird sometimes.
this was the beginning. the first 4 years or so of outside lands tho were special . the first few years were my woodstock. i was out there.. somewhere.. think cake played at the same time. just dope shit all around in those days. i was 14
i watch alot of primus live videos and i love how they use the same guitars since the begining. ler only uses like 3 guitars and les has had that bass a long time. not like other bands who use different stuff all the time. i like that.
What is the song they started to play at the very beginning? I remember it from guitar hero, but can't remember the band or song name. I also remember I loved jamming out to it
goddammit i hate not seeing everybody move people don't appreciate what les has done for bass guitar let alone music in general. i hope im not he only one born in 94 who loves primus even if they were a little before my time
Tim is the best drumer for this company...
yup.
plays like dancing on front the drums ...amazing !!
“Company” haha, I love it
I used to think so Petar...but then I kept listening and now I can't make up my mind!
I think jay lane is the best fit. But I love them all equally.

They simply suck
primus best
You promise you are not Frizzle Fried?
Here come the bastards is so under rated.
+witzerdog mr knowitall tho. Harold of the rocks too. Damn, such a classic set.
+witzerdog mr knowitall tho. Harold of the rocks too. Damn, such a classic set.
Primus music is very intense but they make you feel very relaxed
I'm almost 66 years old. A retired bassist. Yet I would be happy to take bass lessons from this dude.
me to
what is a retied bassist?
Dude I thought bassists didn't retire.. we just can't hear them 🌛
There’s something about eating steak n eggs and watching a Primus concert
still will always be my favorite band of all time
So, I don’t have the full background here, but I imagine that this was quite a delight for the Primus fans as they got to see their band play right in the middle of their hiatus. At Golden Gate Park, no less.

Primus SUCKS! On the same level as RUSH , except Primus doesn't get air play, either does rush if you think about it...... humm maybe 5 rush tunes .
fawlty basil praise it brotha. chills watching a fucking youtube video. that doesn't happen often.
Very well said my fellow Primus fan. :-)
fawlty basil right on man
FAWLTY.....Do ANOTHER LINE...
The craziest band ever!! Unique mad sound! Songs for nuts! Primus rocks!
Nah, Primus sucks.
Primus sucks man
Yeah no... Primus Sucks.
This set is such a throwback!!! Absolute vibes!!!!!!
I love how Les kept the end of My Name Is Mud going for a solid 2 minutes!
YYZ for an intro is amazing
Primus was the Funkedelic Tool, before there was Tool. Long live Claypool and his atrocious sucky-ness!!!!!!!!!! =)
I love the way he lets Ler own the stage. They all are able to showcase their talent.
Respect is just a word nowadays it's sad that people can't feel masterful bass playing!....... Respect and absorb this!
Have never been so "touched" by a music group as this one!!
love Les's funny little dance!

Hometown gig for these guys, and they tore it up. I was there
Me too! A great show!
Me too.

10:35 Great damn camera and playing!!
A damn good sprinkling of frizzle fry, tasty set.
I saw them in 2004 with my dad when I was 14 and they played the entire Frizzle Fry album on that tour. Just Primus for 3 hours..no opening bands or anything else. i love les claypool. he's so comfortable up there
21:45 - 22:30 My brain diverts to another dimension. Amazing.
danggggg
Is it just me or does Less always look like he is having a blast on stage
He’s a happy dude and has a lot of reasons to be happy.
Listened to this on mushrooms the other night
Very nice
Sencillamente perfecto.
Well this is fucking sick, Just what I'd expect to see from the great Mr Claypool. That's some great sound too they're fantastic live that would have been an awesome gig to see live!
One of my favorite bassists. Right there with Sting, Getty, Anthony. I've owned 5 basses and took ill and never furthered my learning at 62.
wait Gordon plays bass?!
@@Alucard6921 Gordon who?
Geddy not Getty chuckkidd
I love how it starts with the soundcheck
Tim is something else ❤
That was the best performance of America life ever
One of their best live tunes, IMO.
This was so great. It’s amazing how they can riff like that then go back into the song. 34:40 Man, that look between those two is just perfect after that huge buildup and then booodup, bup, bup, lol.
Yes, I saw that too, even backed up the 10 seconds or so to see it again. Their brains are totally wired together.
wow thanks for uploading the full show, before this it was just clips.
I was there ! second time seeing them, first was in 1996 ... This was on festival Day 2, among others also saw Steve Winwood and the headliner Tom Petty & Heartbreakers.

Best concert I saw this year, tribute to kings was awesome.
I’m kicking myself in the ass for not going when they came to Philly. I’m old so I saw them at least 5-6 times in the 90’s. Saw them at Woodstock ‘94 also.
@@kris.Zee. I was at the Philly Tribute to Kings and then saw it again in Bethlehem, PA, on the next leg of the tour. You definitely shoulda went.
@@kris.Zee. I’m jealous that you got to see the 90s, because I didn’t.
Their timing is stupid good 👽
At 13:33 Les says Tim "Herb" Alexander....did anyone watch that far into the video?
Plus, as a very long time Primus fan, and a drummer myself, there's no question that's Tim's set and him playing alright.
Was there a question if it was Tim? I recognized him by his looks and playing instantly.
@@alpur214 Right? It’s clearly him. lol
13:32
That was nice how they start with a little bit of the toys go winding down into here they come.
"It's a little cold on the FINGERS up here!" ...Love that man.
Vince Gilligan is such a good bassist.
+Shane Labowitz nowhere close man.both fuckers look completely different tho both of them are genius
pretty sure i was making fun of their voices. whatever. primus sucks
+Shane Labowitz yea but the fact that your here commenting on a video of one of there shows still leaves the score.
Primus 1, shane labowitz 0
Chris Dallaire i hate internet fights. guys, i'm a huge primus fan. primus fans are supposed to have each other's back when we say primus sucks. has the world gone mad!?
What does this have to with les
Brain imo was Primus’s best drummer all around. Don’t know much about Jay, but when i think Primus, I think Tim. He’s just too iconic
Hace miles,millones de años,que venimos,en zon,te paz.
thanks Tim!!!
Primus is once again saving music in 21, i cannot believe the 90s was the last real decade of music creation.
The sad truth.
SP., Grate dimansion!
..oi
.x.
Hahaha seemed like they dragged out the end of My Name is Mud for so long that was great
These 3 dudes right here... top tier yo. CLAYPOOL a god on the bass, looks like he barely even tryin, they all look like they barely even puttin any effort in, so fluid 😂😂😂 it’s ridiculous
Bitcoin and Primus! A golden combination!
I love his hair... just beautiful hair ♥
YYZ should have a time stamp.
I love those endless "American life" variants :)
glad to see tim back.
I think Les was off time at the beginning of Blue-Collar Tweekers. Still rocked!

Actually I'm hammered now.... And les ain't off time at all.. THIS SET DESTROYS ALONG WITH THE SWU 2011 SET..... DEEESTRUCTIONNN
Also setlist should read "Jon The Fisherman > Robot Chicken Theme"
29:30 lol, Chris Farley
Hardcore, perfection at it's most coolest
Nothing compares to this bass tone he’s using.
Primus brengt ons naar outside lands, zoekend waar de kauwgum niet onder onze schoenen elke dag blijft plakken...
2008 the gentrification start of San Franpoopsical .... it was all downhill from this point forward !
old good! new bad!
this was the beginning. the first 4 years or so of outside lands tho were special . the first few years were my woodstock. i was out there.. somewhere.. think cake played at the same time. just dope shit all around in those days. i was 14
yeah thanksloveit
Les tim and larry forever!!!
I was devirginized by Primus music at this show.
Marzo, aprile e maggio.
Same as in Rochester.
MEGA !
I can't wait to move back to cali
I bet you're saying opposite about now
😂😂😂
i watch alot of primus live videos and i love how they use the same guitars since the begining. ler only uses like 3 guitars and les has had that bass a long time. not like other bands who use different stuff all the time. i like that.
Les Claypool is a walking "What the fuck".
I'm going to steal that saying. Just a heads up. Well stated.
Aquí,me lo dijeron,varias,veces.
So that's the wind blowing through the Windmills of my mind....🤔
Ah, Jellikit! What an awesome song! XD
I miss BRAIN!!!!!!!! More energy, powerful playing style, trippy beats!!!!!!
Les master of the mixture Claypool into the mind set structure
HERB!!!!!!!
Quest'anno 2024
Stavano arrivando, stavano arrivando
the soundcheck at the beginning
I've heard they've been known to suck.
Primus Sucksss
Angry 14 year old saying primus dosent suck
Hearing Damn Blue Collared Tweekers with clean guitar makes the song so funny.
18:25 "Hmm, I need to get rid of my slide..."
*casually flicks it off his finger without a single fuck given*
not every concert video starts with soundcheck.
Dammit they're spiffy 👻
now i seen people mosh to my name is mud i have seen every thing there is to see
I strangely joined in during that when I saw Primus live.
I've seen people mosh to "The Air is Getting Slippery".
Woodstock 94
Umm, people always mosh like crazy to that song….
What is the song they started to play at the very beginning? I remember it from guitar hero, but can't remember the band or song name. I also remember I loved jamming out to it
Well, that's one viewing down, ill finish the other 40 later today
You are on my side
Primus los mejores del funk metal
nice.
Larry Lalonde has the best tone ever
Such a rowdy show
Hoping for a fun crowd this Friday.
Musical fucking geniuses! Even Metallica be like “ that’s some skilled shit”. Amazing performance & what a fill-in drummer!
2024
goddammit i hate not seeing everybody move people don't appreciate what les has done for bass guitar let alone music in general. i hope im not he only one born in 94 who loves primus even if they were a little before my time
does anyone have this in higher quality
YYZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
les seems to be heavy metals answer to zappa
Not to defame any of the other incredible bassists out there, but Les is the "Jimi of the 4 string"!
Bill withers cover band in the background?
Good thing this vid isn't an hour and a half long because I can't shut it off!
They started playing YYZ a little before actually starting right?
