Many thanks for putting this up ,well done . I'm new to shuffles and find them difficult and quite challenging ,but I'm gonna persevere and enjoy learning new stuff so much . Such a rewarding feeling when it starts to sink in . Many thanks , you're a great teacher.
Oh man! Those are tough but cool…and way beyond my abilities. I have always struggled with shuffles, and interestingly I’ve been working them for a recording project I’m helping a friend with. Obviously, I won’t be pulling off these way more advanced beats. Cool video as always!
I need to go downstairs and practice that stuff 😂 - well it's Saturday anyway, first on my list : garden work is waiting .. when the sun goes down I'll be @start on my drums 😎 - sunny gtx from the Lake of Constance
A different option for Level 7 would be to play the Porcaro shuffle (or really any of them) with a left hand lead. It’s a great way of building coordination and left hand speed and subtlety.
7 and 8 offset beats can perfectly work as a little rum bit on a regular 4/4 bar (yeah, I call it a drum bit) if you want to sound all technical! Good luck trying to pull it off though!
Real nice examples… Thought you might give honorable mention to Steve Jordan’s shuffle on “walk between the rain drops” from Donald Fagens The Nightfly album. It deceptively easy but harder than it sounds
@@ckr430 sure, you could do it that way, and maybe he Is, but I only hear the horns on the upbeats. That's actually probably a really good excersise though.
Hey Nate (message from a french friend), I am doing a catch up of your lows (lesson of the week) backwards. Are you aware that when you refer to an ancient lesson the link doesn’t appear? It makes a comic effect but it’s not on purpose, no? Take care :)
Very cool and very useful your explications ... and humour But from7 to 9 they are just virtuosity, interedting to train coordination but they don´t sound rythmically harmonious to my modest level. Thank you à lot anyway You are a great drummer and teacher.
The Blue Matter shuffle that Dennis Chambers plays is not shuffled on the right hand at all; he demonstrates it on his In The Pocket dvd, where it’s only quarter notes…
Purdie drops a ghost note right after the back beat as well - your "5" sounds more like a Bonham approach to me. Minor thing: The original album Babylon Sisters is on is called "Gaucho" 😛
Rosanna has famously less ghost notes than the original Purdie. Also, in your example of Blue Matter, Dennis plays three kicks in a row only once, at the beginning. Are you ok? This does not sound like you, seriously!
Hey. Totally missed the pocket and the pattern on the last 3. Don’t try these this way. Don’t teach things you don’t know please. Rudiments can’t just be combined and called a groove. Restudy your time signatures. Combining measures is math. The math has to work as the drummer. Half the time if your 1/8 note triplets aren’t where they needed to start. A metronome won’t help. Your kick will go right where it should be with a proper bassist locked in. Find an excellent bassist to teach your rudiment to you please before you think you can demonstrate
Hey, just wanted to extend my apologies for being rude to you. You don’t deserve that. Sorry. Bad mood, no excuses. Keep on kelpin on. My bad really- you’re channel is positive and lively thankyou
I would have liked to have seen you demo the Texas Shuffle. That is what I have been working on lately and struggling. :)
Haven't watch your vids for a couple of months. You are fantastic and a great teacher!

randomly saw on your About page that yesterday was your 9yr anniversary on UA-cam! congrats! 🎂
Cool lesson bro thankyou tough stuff

Home at last by steely Dan is a great purdie example too
Sweet lesson thanks bro
I'd call those super advanced shuffles "clear the room shuffles."

What about the ghost note after the back beat?

Your intro cracked me up! Thank you. ; D
Great video Nate!
You da man 🥁
Dope, exactly what I am looking at right now! Thank you dude
GREAT LESSON

Where was number three?

It sounds pretty straight ahead honestly, consistent kicks are probably the hardest part about it
@@vasilias2230 I think he’s playing the up beats with his hi hat foot. For me to lock in that style of shuttle at that tempo is a challenge

You should definitely check out Jojo Mayer and his jungle shuffles.
Greetings from Germany
Many thanks! But where is level 3?
In your miiiiiind 🤣🤣😳
I only have room for the Rosanna shuffle in my life right now. :P

I think I missed level 3, did I miss level 3?
Level One is still dope tho tbh 😅
I'm comfortably at level 6 and very happy with it
It should say “Number x will amaze you”
I mean…did number x disappoint?
@@8020drummer Not me.
Most important lesson in last 45 secs
on a total different note, what's hat? I like it
WAIT... There was no level 3?
you r a ledgend
Sick!!!!!!
And we’re not even getting into the Double bass shuffles. Endless ways to finesse triplets.
Dennis doesn't play triplet shuffle on the hihat, he plays quarter notes, please listen carefully !
Space boogie,,,, fool in the rain

To be fair, I mentioned in the video that the skipped notes were "as I like to play it". I play the clip as part of the video ;)
What about Frank Beard? How about the Texas Shuffle?

Niceeee🔥✌️👊🥳
Chris Roberts plays the drums!
9 levels of playing the PH shuffle
🙏💪
So you're talking half time shuffles. Those are great, but not so much if you want a blues gig.
Purdie drops a ghost note right after the back beat as well - your "5" sounds more like a Bonham approach to me.

Its still a cool Lesson, who Cares, He doesnt owe you anything hahaha
shorten the videos ALOT . NO ADS AND NO INTROS GET TO THE POINT
