- Had some snow here in Idaho and finally had a chance to get out with the new Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2. Nothing fancy, just some quick scenics. The Micro G2 did great, I am very excited about this camera.

These shots are lovely but many of us are most interested in seeing interiors with people, well lit in a TV studio environment, that's what the G2 Micro was conceived for. We're contemplating buy 6 or 8 of them to shoot a UA-cam series/podcast and other than Grant's introduction video, I have not seen any footage like this.
This looks awesome. I want this camera lol part of me is captivated by the possibilities of using it like a crash/action cam, or even using it for livestreams, this would be top notch. Tis a shame that it doesn't have bluetooth though, it seems like that would have been a brilliant feature ☹
Love it but why the hell is there always a hair dangling in the wind when filming branches and twigs? Why?! 😂 I made it a habit to zoom in and check before hitting record but still!

Honestly, it just looks like Panasonic Lumix Mft footage to me. Nothing against your framing, if anything it elevates this.

I’m not sure if that’s possible without changing the form factor as I believe 4K is as high as you can go with MFT and I don’t think s35 will fit in the current body. Though I could be wrong.
@@WillvonTagen Not the sensor size, the s recording resolutions. It would be nice to have all the recording resolutions of the pocket 4k given it's technically the same sensor. I'm still on the fence about this camera, because it's offers so much less than the pocket 4k currently; however, there are paths to fix almost all my issue. I want this to be a viable update to my BMMCC that is at least on par with the pocket 4k, but without the screen if I'm going to consider it.
@@billyoung9538I don't believe its the same sensor - it's not DCI, just standard 4K....
@@JonasStuartaccording to all the information currently known it's the exact same sensor and mount. The resolution is a limitation imposed by the current iteration of the cameras OS.

Looks nice. Like to see if with more exciting optics. I used Meike MFT cines for a while but the colours don't to the P4K justice. I now use Zeiss milvus superspeeds and they're heaps better (I use them with and without metabones - with for shallower DOF and better low light, without for sharpness and longer focal length).
This might be controversial but I really don’t like the look of these sensors anywhere close to as much as the OG
Not controversial at all, I think a lot of people would agree with you :)
BM had a tendency of shift the colors towards a 2383 look in the older versions of their color science/transforms/lut. Theres nothing inherently special about the sensors themselves.
When I read comments like this I start to feel blind. Like, if I shot a project cutting back and forth between G2 and OG, I really don’t think anyone would be able to tell me which clips are which honestly 🤷🏻♂️
@@JRShof In all honesty the micro og was my first camera that could shoot raw or a proper log profile so I am really fond of it. From the examples ive seen that are available of the new version, I absolutely prefer the look of the OG straight out of camera. Each to their own and I guess those who are less familiar will be less likely to see the differences

There are technical, quantifiable differences, just as there are differences in all cameras ever made. But you really have to evaluate if those differences are perceptually worth the discrimination we often hinge our opinions on as people who peep at the pixels rather than the total sum of parts. I have a strong suspicion that the things we feel matter the most, actually matter the least to unsuspecting viewers.

Thank you! But no, I don’t agree 😅 That’s not the purpose here and aspect ratio isn’t an automatic “Cinematic look.” What aspect ratio is the original Jurassic Park?
What’s a “cinematic” aspect ratio? Academy ratio was the standard for decades and it’s basically 4:3. This myth that there’s a cinematic aspect ratio is BS. There’s so many other factors to making footage look cinematic than just some black bars top and bottom.

Great footage🎉. I am interested in low light at about 3200-6400 ISO. Please make a short video to see the low light specs of this tiny beast
since its the same sensor as the p4k, you can easily get away with 3200, but i would be afraid to get good results at 6400.
@OlegUstimenko thanks, it makes sense. I would still want to see the footage or an assessment because this camera is Gen5 color science, whereas the Pocket 4K is Gen4
@@ModernVersusVintage its been gen 5 since an update in 2021 or so. If you buy a new 4k you will have gen 5 color science in it now.

This is the first time I'm seeing footage from the g2. Your framing and shot composition is fantastic. However, I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed by what the sensor is outputting. It might be how the sensor is sharpening the footage, but it feels a lot like iphone footage. I understand it's a studio camera and technically not a cinema camera. I loved the original bmmcc so much, I was kinda hoping for more here...

What are your recommended accessories for this camera?
The G2 “Basic Rig” I have in the store should be a solid start. If you’re using a speedbooster then I would add the Metabones/Viltrox adapter lock as well. What SSDs are you using?
@@WillvonTagenI will be using the enclosure & Crucial MX500 1tb drive combination that I used with my Pocket 6k. I ordered the Viltrox Speedbooster with the camera and I ordered your cage a couple hours ago. The accessories I am looking for now are monitors, whether a dummy battery is needed, car mount options, etc.

They’re very different cameras and the fx3 costs almost 4x as much.
