    Polish hussars actually fought impossible odds many times and are perfect time travellers here.
    At Klushino, where 2,5-3k hussars rolled 30-40k Russo-Swedish army that was behind fortified encampment, charging them 10 times before they broke, leaving swedish mercenaries surrounded and forced to negotiate their surrender.
    Same in battle Orsha, where 30-35k of the Polish-Lithuanian force crossed the river and rolled over 60k rested Russians, with hussars playing the main breaking the enemy job.
    And at Kircholm where 2,7k mainly winged hussars rolled 12k Swedish forces out of existance after tricking them to split their forces in fake retreat.

Polish Air Force with 1945+ aircraft! (Bonus if they get the Polish Paratrooper Brigade and Armored Division, and several Infantry Divisions from the Western Front. Polish RAF squadrons too.)
      1939 Poland had plenty of Infantry, but only a couple Battalions of light tanks and tankettes. Polish airforce was outmatched.
      1946 T34/85, or even T34/76, plus other AFVs, and Veteran Polish soldiers, would annihilate the ill prepared Germans!
      Pz I tankettes, Pz II light tanks, less than 100 total Pz III and IV. The German mechanized forces would be totally outmatched!

      Poland has aircraft manufacturing capacity sufficient to maintain, and repair c.1946 aircraft. Vehicle maintenance would become more difficult after 30 days; as would supply of petroleum (Romania, mostly; some from the UK via the Baltic).

    Jerusalem was worthless, and it was absurd and foolish for the Crusaders to target this small desert city.
    They should have supported Byzantium against the Seljuks, Persians, and Arabs. The main targets of the Crusaders should be Mesopotamia and Egypt, the two major food producing areas in the Middle East at that time. Capturing the products of these two areas would allow the Crusaders to fight independently for a long time, instead of continuing to rely on European shipping support. Even if they could not occupy them, they should loot them and cause famine to destroy their populations. By then, the entire Islamic world would be overwhelmed.
    The Crusaders were scattered, without a unified command or a strategist. They even sacked Constantinople. The main focus was placed on a small city with no strategic value.
    Instead of imagining Hussars rescuing Jerusalem, it is better to imagine what would have happened if Byzantium had received direct aid from the Catholic coalition in 1453.

    • @ParryThis
      @ParryThis  8 місяців тому +2

      When examining the failings of the First Crusade, it is important to remember that for Eastern Christian forces, it was mostly a war of reconquest for land and resources and to halt the military advance of the Muslim Caliphate, whereas for Most Western Christian forces it was either a quest for personal power, ie, Bohemond of Taranto, or a religious action taken to please God, ie Godfrey of Bouillon. So Jerusalem was far more important to Western Crusaders because of it's symbolic importance in Christianity.

    Julius Caesar with army he fought Vercingeterix with vs Atila the Hun?

    • @thejonrezcontent5213
      @thejonrezcontent5213 8 місяців тому +1

      Caesar would just hit and run Atila's forces. Caesar's legions are terrifyingly fierce and disciplined. He would have fortified many villages, forts, and walls to make sure the Huns would not make any breakthroughs unless their current expanded territory between Gaul to Greece, his army and command chain would be spread thin, leaving them being picked at by Atila one by one. United they would stand a chance, divided they would fall as the Huns are more than Caesar's men (even if we count the Gallic auxiliary loyalist to Caesar). The best they can do is to defend.
      If Pompey Magnus would help, the manpower of Rome against the Hun invasion would drastically increase, even if they are mostly raw recruits(If we count the Caesar's civil war era of Pompey's legions). Pompey would have a reason to ally with Caesar with this one, because if there is a threat heading towards Rome their personal interest and backstabbing would just be for later as they value their country's honor welfare to some degree.

    How about a platoon of M18s (4 open topped tank destroyers.) helping the romans at the battle of Cannae? Bringing tanks to an ancient battle might seem to be too much of a difference in technology but I think that in the case of the M18s it might be reasonably balanced.
    The reasoning for this is:
    1: The M18 is an open topped vehicle. That means that the soldiers inside are vulnerable to the weapons of the era. Combine this with Cannae being famous for an incredibly tight encirclement against the Romans the M18s might end up trapped in the encirclement and vulnerable to being climbed and attacked in melee range where the cannon and maybe even 50cal are rather useless.
    2: Roman military command may try to treat the M18s improperly. The M18s would be at their best on a hill away from the battle but one of the more famous issues tanks have had to deal with in their development is being treated like calvary. (A particularly notable example is some British forces in Africa, Prior to WWII, being trained to have the driver and loader dismount the tank to fight like infantry leaving only the gunner and commander in the now-immobile tank. This may work with calvary but definitely not tanks.) As mentioned the M18s may also be sent to take part in the Roman columns instead of being at a proper range and end up being defeated in melee combat.
    3: The M18s were tank destroyers. They were optimized for long range combat with APHE and AP rounds rather than the HE rounds that would be most effective against enemy infantry. And even referring to that the blast radius of HE rounds would be mildly less effective since the armor of infantry at the time may reduce their effectiveness.
    4: Could they even deal enough damage to make a difference? Yes they have modern cannons and 50cals but they also have limited ammunition and the Carthaginians number around 20,000 strong. Would the M18s deal enough damage for the Romans to make a breakthrough and escape or prevent the encirclement?

    • @galbert117
      @galbert117 8 місяців тому

      Huh.... this is actually a pretty good suggestion and honestly your reasoning is sound. Open top tanks would certainly be more vulnerable to infantry attacks & given the numbers against them it is likely one or more would get overrun.

      The Roman Republic then defeats Carthage for the 2nd time and start the Industrial Revolution
      Roman Legions now have Guns and Tanks

    • @philipphogerl140
      @philipphogerl140 8 місяців тому

      Honestly the more interresting parts of the scenario (at least to me, and dont get me wrong i do love the tactical aspects) is how the tank crews would even coordinate with the romans, given the language barrier. What kind of incentives there could even be to choose one side or the other in a war that isnt their own. The culture shock experienced just by having to live side by side, what interactions would happen with the legionaries and camp followers. How the modern troops would have to navigate roman politics to ensure their own safety from their uneasy and very ambitious hosts. How they would secure food and commodities in a world where those dont automatically come with neat logistic trucks.
      Although we would have to assume they are somehow supplied with at least fuel and ammunition, since the second they loose their status as otherworldly supersoldiers, all the other questiins would resolve pretty quickly and probably tragically

    The feathers on the wings of the Hussars fluttered in the wind of the charging horse. It was a strange sound to uneducated superstitious soldiers especially when they were already in fear of the heavy cavalry headed right at them. While the Polish horses were used to the sound, it was said to terrify the animals of the opposing forces. One German officer was said to have remarked that the Hussars had "sung them to death with those wings". The lance was not heavy as stated. In fact, it was hollowed out to be as light as possible. the idea was to have it impale the enemy and then shatter. The hussars would then ride back for another lance and charge again. That way by sending your hussars in waves the enemy would receive wave after wave of charging lancers with little or no relief between charges.

    Suggestion scenario: What if Admiral Nelson had his Royal Navy fleet right before Battle of Trafalgar replaced by the Royal Navy first full ironclad warships HMS Warrior and HMS Black Prince. How would this change the battle of Trafalgar ?

    • @ParryThis
      @ParryThis  8 місяців тому

      Well...I guess they would win harder. i doubt Admiral Nelson would change his strategy, unless you are saying his entire fleet would be replaced by just the two warships, in which case, they would likely lose, as Ironclads were certainly not impervious to cannon fire, and the fleets at Trafalgar represent the peak strength of the age of tall ships.

    Cool scenario.
    Now transport the Hussars to Constantinople, 1453 and resurrect Władysław who died in 1444 to lead them.
    To fix a couple misconceptions about the Hussars:
    1) Lances. The lances and spears were used in heavy cavalry way back in antiquity. What made hussar lances unique is their length as they could literally outreach the pikemen, so their charge is more like an attack of Macedonian phalanx with the speed of a fully galloping horse and the power of a knight's lance hit.
    2) Armor. Hussars wore relatively light armor. In their early period they didn't wear their iconic cuirasses and instead wore simple mail shirts, not too different to those in the Battle of Hastings. The main point is that Hussars derived from light cavalry and were originally a counter to horse archers.
    3) Armament. Aside from lance(which was extremely long and expensive, designed to be longer than pikes), they could carry a steppe bow, two pistols, a sabre and a rapier-like sidearm sword. What would totally shock the people from 1000-1100s, would be the pistols. Like the magic wands of death that can't be stopped by shields and mail/scale armor of the time.

    Without more specific information about the how and when the Winged Hussars arrive, it is difficult to define a specific effect that they would have on the battle. Was there room for a single, open field charge? Against which of Saladin's forces would it be directed? What, if any, effect would the follow-through have? Would the defenders of Jerusalem have the presence of mind to take effective action, or would they see these "angels on horseback" as divine intervention, and assume they had no cause to press their advantage? It's all pretty nebulous. ='[.]'=

    • @paladinsix9285
      @paladinsix9285 8 місяців тому +3

      Whenever the Polish Winged Hussars arrive, Saladin's vast Camp is in the open; not well defended because there were no Crusader forces within 100 miles (and not besieged).
      The Crusaders in Jerusalem had food for months, perhaps a year, and "unlimited" water. Deprive Saladin's forces food, water, arrow supplies, and all other Logistics; they must come to terms, or attempt to withdraw without supplies and in terrain favorable to the Polish!

      The issue here is, it's hard to make it super specific, as the Siege of Jerusalem is pretty heavily debated tactic wise. The different accounts we have of the battle are mostly fairly vague, and some contradict each other.
