in my humble opinion, Seraphine should have been a siren (or a banshee), it fits the music concept also the more dark and badass side of the world of league but then it also has potential for a rlly hot and cool champion.
You can make sexy characters that appeal to the general audience but they dont have to be fucking kda pop stars 24/7 lol. But obviously they don't see it that way.

They even could've kept that weird fucking stage thing that they decided to add to her in order to differentiate her from Nami a bit more. What with two half girl half fish champions inevitably looking really similar normally. Then the stage would actually be pretty neat! It would be how she gets around on land! Or, they could've gone with the bird siren route, and finally had a third champion with wings in the game. (no, Aatrox and Swain don't count. I'm talking *permanent wings* here) And there would be multiple different ways to make her design different from Kayle and Morgana. It really wouldn't be hard. BOTH of these designs would also still fit the "cute anime waifu" design philosophy, while also still being more interesting/fitting to the world than what we got.
We could've have gotten a monster like champion with the Ruined King in 2021 cause the teaser and the quote leads to him but the teaser/cinematic called Ruined King makes him to be like a anime main edgy antagonist or a from a emo boy band. Also seriously there a ton of reasons that look doesn't fit Ruined King examples are lore, plus this make him look like a Ruined Prince than a King

The problem with seraphine and KDA is that the band contests of a ninja, a succubus, a fox succubus and a girl from the void, and now they added a new member who is just a pop star. There's no point in making a KDA skin if she's already a popstar. It's like making a ninja skin for akali or an angel skin for Kayle.

A better way to write Seraphine would be to *make* her a sociopath, make her someone that forces others to enjoy her music through brainwashing or something. Use the good girl look as a cover for her truly dark personality. If she was it would make sense why she'd continue to use the crystal, and why a generally gothic city has grown to enjoy pop music, Hell, it would even make for good lore writing characters that know of Seraphine's horrid personality.
That'd be actually good, sadly they wouldn't do that because an "evil" character is not milkable enough. They want people to see her as a cute, hardworking gal, going after her dreams and so on.

I feel so incredibly bad for the Lore team at Riot. These people who you can tell genuinely love writing bios and stories and even entire comics about their characters, diving deep into the world and making cool colorful tales about what happens to them in the world. And then the marketing team, champion team, and Tencent create shit like this. This that no one cares about. Shit that doesn't fit on Runeterra and basically have nonexistent lore. If i were a story writer, I would hate having to work with something this poorly implemented and obviously created just to be a pretty face that makes money. The entirety of Seraphine is just so very sad.
Tencent is not involved in anything, they bought riot because its profitable and will generate profit for them and that's it, i dun think they have change any employee or interfere in any activities related to making the game
I picked up league right after Seraphine was released, and when I say “right after” I mean that she still cost 7800 essence in the store. My friend introduced me to KDA after I played for about a week and then I looked at Seraphine and the first thing I said to him in response was “so KDA was just made for seraphine?” He told me that KDA existed for a while before sera was teased to which I responded “so sera was just made for KDA?” To someone who had less than 15 hours in the game, it was obvious to see that she just didn’t fit in with the rest of league

Technically, she can tell the crystals are "special" but she can't actually hear them anymore, because they bandaged fixed it a few days after this video was made. She really should've been from anywhere else though.

Honestly, Seraphine should have just been literally KDA Seraphine and have been a special outside character that only exists in the KDA universe. And her Runeterra version should have been a skin. That would have been super cool and much more acceptable.

Think it would have been cool to play around with the trope of a witch that uses the life force of others to extend her life, like some kind of siren that looks like a hag normally but uses magic and illusions to lure people into a trap and kill them, or have an ikr that reveals her true form and she’s a monster. But nah, let’s just make a popstar.
I dont get the big deal, she doesn’t need a big lore to be in that world, in fact it makes her 100 times better to be a more “normal” lore, giving it more credibility to the world of Piltover where obviously normal people exists, musicians… teenagers etc
@@luuggy In the universe of League, Piltover is most recognized for their hextech and technological advancements. When someone says "steampunk", your first thought isn't really towards their musical tastes. Sure music is there, but it's not as big as technology.

The steampunk, victorian aesthetic of piltover feels like classical music would be played more there. The grimy, seemingly lawless region of zaun but in contrast to the clean technology of piltover definitely feels like something as rock could be developed as they aren't supposed to be sophisticated. The indie girl thing that seraphine has going for her is way too hyper modern and way too 'real' for the world of runeterra, even moreso kpop. Seraphine is like putting billie eilish in runeterra; it doesn't make sense for the aesthetic.

Honestly, if she was actively an inventor, a technomancer specialized in sound and she herself wasn't a pop-singer but actually a scientist like the rest of Piltover who just happens to use soundwaves as her weapon, it would be so much better. Make her normal look be her KD/A skin, and give her a steampunk design, make her only sing because she needs to, you can still make her hear the brackern, but make her act on it, make her character arc be a war against the Ferros and the rest of the Hextech users by having her be assisted by the crystals themselves and be an insanely powerful technomage who's willing to go against the system. Make her be SOMETHING. In this state, she's just a cute e-girl who's funny to play but who's still Riot's biggest failure.

She looks awesome on those arts, she has that "steampunk musician" vibe there that the team completely failed to capture (or even better: didn't even try to include) when they made LoL's Seraphine. Such a shame.
She could be interesting if they would recognize how she’s already pretty evil, and is stepping on the voices and lives of others while pulling in the vulnerable for the sake of her own benefit, but that would be making a statement that comes uncomfortably close to how they’re doing things, soooo...

I remember when Illaoi and Rek'Sai came out, and I was celebrating the fact that the homogeny of female champions was being addressed, and that we would get a golden age of diverse female designs, monsters of every gender, and reworks of the more unsightly designs. What an optimistic child I was.

Even if they retroactively started changing the gender of every champ in the game, you wouldn't have enough to match up with what they're talking about. People who think there's more than 2 almost infallibly end up being or already are the same people who believe that every gender is as valid as the last, and if that's TRUE and they're not FULL of it, then that means the literal thousands of genders people have been making up over the past half-decade could never possibly all see the light of day in league much LESS be portrayed "properly." You're gonna tell me that not only Riot is going to kowtow to a fan request for representation, but they're gonna do it for over a thousand champions when we haven't even hit 200? Are they gonna hunt down every person who claims to have a new gender and make sure it gets into the game? Much like most other people, I come to games for an escape from what I'm seeing take place in the real world, yet it seems every time I boot this game back up, or watch community videos/talks, it is the same bs they're arguing about in the news. I obviously have my own opinion on this, and frankly as hard as I tried to make a convincing argument, my expectations (which I would prefer to be subverted) are that this will fall on deaf ears. Especially since this is planted in a small reply section people are liable not to see, much less read. TLDR; If I could properly convey my thoughts in a TLDR I wouldn't have wrote all this. Either read it, or admit you don't care about a stranger on the internet's opinion and that you only wanted a summary that you could easily poke holes in due to it being a non-comprehensive SUMMARY.
Funny how the bands that league invented are as successful as their real world counterparts. K/DA - appeals to the masses just like pop, k-pop etc. True Damage - has a big and dedicated fan base but not as successful as pop Pentakill - has been around for the longest time and has a lot less fans just like all the metal genres.
People love K/DA just because of its K-Pop element. It was released during the great K-Pop fever when everything was either BTS or Super Junior. And it's getting better(or worse) from there.

Arcanes piltover shows a damaged society where advancements in hextech lead to more disaster up top and an underground society full of criminals who have had just about enough of piltovers topside. Piltover would literally be like a Gotham city. Piltover is shown to be classy and prestigious I don't see a pop star strutting around

That game has their own innocent, adorable idol singer, beloved by her home town, that just wants to sing to make everyone smile. Except she actually fits into the lore of the game, since she's the head of the church in her local nation, while connected to other characters and storylines. And her personality is written more like what Seraphine should've been to actually translate her K/DA persona into the lore (more soft spoken and dreamy, actually sounds in line with all her style of music, etc). I love her for this reason. Even if I don't use her in game anymore. The real issue is they were forced to lock Seraphine as a piltover popstar. I know people stuck speculated her being a siren originally, but she should've been something like a new addition to the Solari, so Leona is not the only "good" Solari, and her idealistic nature would work better with such a "religious" and cultural society on Targon instead of the economic and scientifically driven Piltover. She needed to be somewhere else.

I came back to league after a 2 year break, and when i found out about this character, i was convinced it was something like, idk, make-a-wish foundation thing and some terminaly ill kid asked riot to put his OC in the game.

Seraphine's Twitter would be so much cooler if it actually tied into the lore and teased anything about the actual character, like some proper foreshadowing and world building.
I heard people say that it would be better if she was like an opera singer in the base game and I really agree and think if fits better than a pop star. Still a singer but a different kind. Keep the pop star in kda but make her opera in Runeterra.

I would have loved to see a Piltovian character which is more aware of the grit that the Zaunites go through and how fucked up the behind the scenes of how the society of two cities function. As someone who mained Sona for years, Seraphine's existence is an insult, especially when Sona's last rework years ago was so halfassed and Seraphine was the kind of champion people wanted. The kind that could actually be played in the midlane again. "More wave clear please" - People "Okay, so get this, instead of Q hitting one target.... its hits 2 targets!" - Riot; Years later Sona knockoff gets 2 double AOEs and her E which usually gets cast immediately after W anyways is mashed together freeing up a skill slot for something actually useful. Seraphine's ult is a literal copy paste of Sona's but a bigger and better, more current lol standard version. Also PS, Sett is a stolen Vi rework. It's so f'in obvious. Vi's been in need of a rework for a while now and Sett's kit is basically Vi's but polished to current LoL standards. Maybe if Arcane had come out sooner Vi might have got it with her more Asian appeal look she has in Arcane. I strongly suspect Yone was a shelved Yasuo rework cause they didn't want to mess with his iconic fart moves. Viego gives me Aatrox vibes.

I felt like they should've reworked Sona with Seraphine's abilities so she can go mid etc. And you noticed the whole Sett-Vi thing like YES MY FRIEND (Sett's ult and Q are very similar to Vi's and I honestly think Riot wanted a new champ but resorted for a Vi duplicate in a way). Vi needs a massive rework to keep her up to Arcane standards (her voicelines are sassy and aggressive but it doesn't entirely suit the 'good heart' vibe Arcane set for her) and she literally just needs lots of things to be fixed up like her abilities and damage etc. Also, didn't notice the Yone / Yasuo one, so thanks for pointing that out! :)

that's the thing with companies relying on creativity. Creativity can't run free if it's tied down by the fact that something is created for the purpose of money and not art/enjoyment/etc.
I think it fits well though, in a city with a giant statue to Heinerdinger and teenagers with flying skateboards isn’t exactly strange in Piltover. I think she fits right in!

I added Skarner to my champ pool for this very reasons. I almost only play Cho but if I see a Seraphine before i lock in, I instapick Skarner and divebomb her, even if it loses me the game. Fuck this shit.
I think the problem with Seraphines design vs Sona is that her design is to close minded. A pop star that’s it and there’s nothing you can do to change that pop start musical aspect of her. Sona has a lyre and you can do so much with that like giver her a valentines one or a arcade and maybe a coven next year. Sona’s design works because you can expand on her idea. Seraphine however can’t be expanded because she was made on a simple on dimensional idea and nothing more and you can’t change Seraphine without the pop star aspect of her making anything she has like skins all just be a pop star with a different coat of paint.
Annie could've at least have an outfit change or something but still look similar to her original design. Seraphine is just a Chinese magic pop star Barbie. If you've seen Barbie's Princess Pop Star movie, you'd see what I mean. lol Sona with a K/DA skin would be really nice.

They could’ve put Seraphine in Targon. They could’ve made it so that she ascended the mountain and became the aspect of art and music or something. She feels out of place in Piltover if not Runeterra in general. And I was genuinely excited for her release until I found out that she’s low key trash in her own lore.
Her being the aspect of art/music would be a really interesting lore. She wouldn't need that hoverboard for starters lol. She could literally ride music waves
This is one of my favorite ideas of how to improve her lore. Either that or just make her a special character unique to the KDA universe, where she's not in runeterra since they wanted to advertise her KDA persona the most. Either or would've been better than the half ass'd shit we have now. Plus more work on her kit. I could handle the ultimate staying the same if her other abilities were different. But thats crazy. Literally we got two champs in a row where they copied another champs ult and made it better (samira with kats ult, except she can move during it. Seraphine with sona's ult, except it extends after each person it hits.)
You know why this sounds so sad (for Riot)? It’s the fact the outsiders like you are able to come up with actually wonderful concepts for champions meanwhile the people at Riot are regurgitating cheap fanfics for their new champs. :(
The Aspect of Muse would be an interesting idea to spin on. Like singing is only ONE of the things she does as an ascended being, and have her inspires mortals to become better than their formal selfs in preparation for the terror that is about to come to Runeterra. And after that, they can design her kit around buffing allies. It could still be music if they want, but having her as a Muse opens up many other opportunities. Like poetry, dance, sculpture... that would be a whole lot more materials to draw inspiration from. Then her K/DA persona is just ramping up her music side in this alternative universe, which would be perfectly acceptable if not welcomed, considering how the 4 main members don't even have any musical stuff related to their base lores.
I have never in my life played LoL. I know basically nothing about the game, but a relative who does play got me into K/DA and the story animations. As someone who only knows LoL on a surface level, Seraphine came out of nowhere for me. I wasn't really a fan of her. Maybe she'll grown on me with enough exposure, but my initial gut reaction upon seeing MORE was that she felt out of place
Champs are made with less love and spirit with each new one, or that's what I feel. Lets just take Ornn himfelf as example. His release came with this poem made of a combination of scandinavian languages. With also a beautiful and inspiring instrumental version. A character that resembles a part of what humanity (and mostly masculinity) values: an appreciation for hard and heavy work and craftmanship that someone has to do. His stories are told like myths to teach younger generations about what he stands for. Even with his power and status as a demigod, he respects the will of the humans and beings of his land, not liking to be treated as a god, he prefers humans to build and smith for themselves, and not as a tribute to him. This is why he acts the way he does in the game. He is like this grumpy grandpa that loves and cares about others, but doesnt want to be regarded in a special place and others to get attached to him and neither he to get attached. This is actually a character that can inspire people, or atleast remind them to a paternal figure in their lives, maybe a father, a grandfather or an uncle. I'm surely very wrong and not every character is as inspiring, but oh god, with Seraphine they just broke their own record when in comes to uninspiring an boring characters
I still think new characters can be just as cool, but not as often, yone and senna had really cool releases with really good lore, same with fiddlesticks and voli rework. But in 2016 2017 they came out with kindred, jhin, ornn, asol and camille while we had yuumi qiyana and seraphine lol
Ornn, despite me sucking at him, is probably one of my top ten champions mostly because of how he was introduced to us. I usually hold back on buying champs on release, but Ornn was the first one to truly reel me in. The song, his voice, his LORE, holy shit-Absolutely amazing. I really like hardened blacksmiths in fantasies, because they're often grumpy, wise, and secretly rooting for you, and Ornn just fits that bill. Fast forward to 2020 and I get back to League and see Seraphine. I purchase her since, well, I main support. I gotta tell ya, no words can describe the disappointment I felt with her in my first match. While laning, I literally asked myself, "Hey, isn't this too similar to Sona?" For the first time ever, I refunded a champion. And I bought Sett, because I like his lore, and his kit looks (and feels) fun to play.
I don't play League but I went on their website to read K/DA's Runeterra lore. I started with Evelynn and ended with Seraphine and even I was disappointed, I can't imagine people who actually do play LoL and are invested in the story and game. Her lore felt like the stories of those bad Naruto OCs we would see on DeviantArt back in like 2007.

Saraphine should be an air head who doesn't understand hardship, that will make her seem condescending, but really it's just her naivety and innocence, though her conclusions for why hardship exists come across as someone who never worked a day in her life - and that would be right. Her appearance: She was a blonde but privileged girl before she was blessed, (blessed by who you wonder?) she listened to no one, cared not for anyone, only herself in maintaining her comfort in life (pampered by her dotting parents who constantly called her their "angle". Until the day finally came, where she would taste the hardship of empathy, during the war (the war between Piltover and Zaun), though her parents did well to keep her sheltered from such things, eventually though, the war came to her door step, she heard people screaming in the streets before, but seeing it was something else entirely. Her parents could not protect her anymore from the cruelty of the world, and given her rebellious and spoiled nature, instead of hiding from it, she ventured out to see if she could help. When she saw the destruction of war, and the blood being spilled on the streets, young and old laying dead in the streets, her heart sank even though she didn't understand, understand why all the pain and suffering. She only knew that she wanted it to stop. So while she was traveling through the bloody streets, taking in the ruins of a battle (while not trying to get herself dirty), she found a little boy laying in the street who was still alive, but bleeding badly. Saraphine ran to the boy, not knowing what she would do. She found herself driven by some unknown force which she had never experienced before; it was empathy. Her heart though sanking, was soring deeply with pain, she held the little boy's head on her lap, and for once did not mind the blood even as it was staining her cloths, the little boy unaware of his surroundings asked "Mommy?", this question struck Saraphine's heart cords, because she knew that no matter how she would answer, it would not be satisfying to one who was dying. All Saraphine could do was cry. And when she did cry, her heart began to sing, a song of mourning and anguish, and without fully understanding, she found herself singing to this tone in her heart. It was soothing to the little boy, for it was the song of caring, and the little boy thought he was hearing an angel. And in that moment as Saraphine continued singing, with her tears dropping on the boy, they began to heal the boy, for Saraphine was going through a transformation, with her hair turned long and pink, and her dress stained with blood now glittered with blue and white, for her heart was pure and clean, her voice even became more powerful. And onlookers who had escaped from the previous night's massacre (people who were in hiding during the slaughter) came out when they heard the song. Saraphine's voice was gentle enough to not harm the boy, but was actually strong enough to heal him, and yet her voice was powerful enough to penetrate through the walls of the surrounding houses. Her voice was an elegant mix of gentleness and strength, so that all who heard her voice, would not be deafened by it. So when those who were hidden came to see who was singing, no one recognized Saraphine, but her song kept their attention, even the little boy who was now healed, remained with his head on her lap, just enjoying her song. One little girl grasping her mom's skirt asked "Mommy, is that an angel?", this was Saraphine nearing the end of her song, so when Saraphine finally came to realizing her surroundings, was able to hear the mother's reply "That is a saraphine, dear, they are one of the most powerful angels." And though Saraphine knew she was not really an angel, she decided to let that title be her name, especially if it brought people comfort. So when she sat the boy up and he found his mom who had previously lost her son, Saraphine stood and came to realize her transformation, both accepting that and the people's attention on her. She realized her voice was powerful, and figured she must have been born with magic that only awakened just now. And that is where I would end Saraphine's story bio for now.
Funny enough, at this point Gragas (of all characters and was joked by Necrit for a good time now) has MUCH better lore and motivation then Seraphine. Crazy right?
The thing is, Gragas' lore fits as it has him travel everywhere. He wants to brew a perfect brew so he traverses all of Runeterra for ingredients and brewing techniques. Eventually bringing him to Freljord where he uses True Ice to permanently keep the Cold Ones at perfect Temperature. With updated writing you could keep that concept and fit many a story of him going literally everywhere to find what he needs. Have him in Ionia learning the secrets of their sake, have him in Demacia getting into Bar Fights and learning that Magic has a good use in brewing, have him in Piltover seeing factories that produce the best drinks and sharing his stuff with some wealthy investors. He's a fun champion being a literal drunk brawler that wants to make his own World Famous Brew.

The 2 of them fight, Jax wins but think is strong enough to fight the void and he convinces him by telling him that after the battle is done, he will help Gragas get his hands on some of the ingredients and techniques of the old brews from heres homeland that have been lost and forgotten.

And with launch of this champ, two senior developer (new001, and morello), and senior artist from riot (Zeronis, who created kda Akali) left the company. Hmmm, coincidence? I know people were jokingly saying that riot is a new blizzard, but oh well. They did not have to follow every step of blizzard so quickly.
@@Cerulean9242 It's why omnivamp and tons of lifesteal are in the game right now. They wanted to reduce access to healing in the new season because it was getting ridiculous, but the only thing they did was take out gunblade and replace it with something better for ap users, nerf conqueror healing but increase damage, nerf legend bloodline and replace athene with a wonky and half finished item (support items were obviously neglected, with a boring resistance aura on locket being the addition, Imperial Mandate not being released until the second wave of items on pbe, athene replacement not having ap initially) and making ravenous hunter a more all-around option. There's more and better anti heal options, but the new items overshadow them, and some items are just too good to be replaced. Even then, people can just go out of combat and heal for crazy amounts on jungle monsters or on the minion wave. But basically, they added even more healing to the game, while giving even more champs access to healing, and making lifesteal apply to physical on hit damage which makes it better.
I can only laugh at the thought of using Seraphine's marketting strategy on some character like Aatrox. Just like a tweet on a tuesday afternoon: Just massacred a frejlordian village! LOL I'm so crazyy 😋 Like what the hell
Even if they were dead-set on expanding the KDA brand, there were so many more-sensible ways that they could have done it. For example, a KDA Manager Taric skin would have made a lot of sense, at least given his reworked lore.

Because people keep buying them over and over, its really that simple let's be honest with ourselves here. While this Seraphine move was scummy for sure, if people wouldn't buy them they would most likely stop creating these things that only grabs money.
As an aside, whoever they got doing the illustrations fucking deserves a raise with the quality they are putting out. Also, Riot is a Chinese slave now. The delay suggests they definitely had something way better in mind. But then Tencent saw it and said, "this wont make money in China. Change it now." And Riot had no choice but to bend the knee to there new master.
I wouldn't say Riot is a Chinese 'slave', since it implies they had to give something up for money. In this case, they are owned by China so they are legally bound to do everything tencent says

Wholeheartedly agree, and I'd like to add a point alongside the cutesy parasocial bullshit: the fact that she's supposed to be this compassionate activist type of character, and yet does /nothing/ to even understand why Zaun and Piltover are eternally at odds. They could have made this work as her being a naive girl with a savior complex, yet they treat her mentality and methods of "combating" systemic oppression (i.e. just fuckin' sing pop songs in the street and hope unity happens) as something substantial. I still fly into a blind rage every time I see that picture of her tearfully eating ice cream while literally looking down at Zaun. It's such a perfect embodiment of people who talk a big game about changing the system, but do fuck all to actually help. I know this was a little off-topic, but I just wanted to reinforce your comment that nothing she says or does carries any actual /substance/. Everything about her is just fishing for unwarranted sympathy.

LoR yes. League no. Tbh, her newest lore retcon and redesign in LoR doesn't really fit the genre of music she sings. Yes she wants harmony between piltover and zaun but Zaun and piltover are entire different places with different attitudes to each other. And TBH, the least common denominator of both societies is their underclass. So what kind of music has its roots in disenfranchisement of the underclass? Rock n Roll. Specifically punk rock which Zaun borrows its aesthetic from.

To create a champion like Bard, Reksai or Zac u need a lot of creativity, but now all the new recent champs are like "A edgy demon ruler hot ghost man", "A hot woman, but shes riding a horse", "A hot woman, but she's not white?!", "A buff Fitness UA-camr" and oc "Belle Dolphine". She would make sense, if in her lore she "wasnt a pure hearted MarySue whose only flaw is caring too much about others" stuff, but something sinister, making her look like she is too good to be real... enslaving people through her voice and forcing them to obey her orders while they "love and admire her". It could be even connected to Mundos rework... He could have been her first victim, then bodyguard, that is forced to endure her sadistic torture, under the command "survive" until his brain "rots away" and he runs off to vent out by torturing others...

opinion about more kda idc what anyone says but for kda's more, the feature with lexie liu should have been someone like irelia with a new skin. the bridge, the graceful integrity, and the chinese instruments that describes a peacefulness, persevering character who was powerful but determined with constant memory of the past and where they started from, it all would fit irelia - the blade dancer who leads despite all her personal losses. i know about the whole nerf irelia thing but still, i feel like bringing her in with a new skin while maintaining her grace as well as her power/leadership, as the feature on the song, wouldve been perfect. lexie liu's voice compliments that grace and power perfectly. irelia should've been featured. another character i can think of is probably ashe, but i can't really imagine an ashe skin with this. on top of that, ashe grew up an archer, but personally i feel irelia would've been perfect as her blades have a story that reflects her entire lore and power. so, for me, irelia would've been the perfect feature. but seraphine as a feature on kda - a group of strong female characters with strong lores - was a huge question mark. especially when her part - chinese and the instrumentation and the flow of the vocals (i.e. grace and power etc) - was in no way really related to her character and past. but anyway yes im lowkey salty coz i think irelia wouldve been perfect for the bridge and feature instead. sorry seraphine fans but it just didnt work.

Speaking as a fellow veteran player (playing since March 2010) this video says everything that I've been thinking. League is so special to me and it really hurts to see it turned into a blatant cash grab. Feels like riot doesn't care about western audiences anymore almost at all
The western players drove a most of the western players. They also fail to do anything professionally on a world stage. Also theses "favorite" characters are not based of sales numbers but community gathered data.

As an NA player, I keep seeing this happen more and more because eastern players come to our servers thinking itll be easy wins because we are westerners and get mad at any little setback. Every area of the world is toxic and entitled in some way. Kinda seems like youre projecting bud.

I don't know about Kpop but this is the most cringe attempt at crowd chasing in the world. A crowd which doesn't exist in league, and I don't think it attracted any Kpop fans yet, outside the music videos. I've yet to meet a person who genuinely likes the K/DA group as anything more than fancy skins for their favorite waifu champ or whatever. Personally I find the skin line to be the most cringe thing that has ever existed.
They've been creating champions really fast. I remember I quit playing LOL for a month and when I came back, Lilia and Yone were on the shop. I was like: wait, when did they become that fast at releasing champions? In my opinion, I would prefer if they took their time to release a good champ with a good design, lore and abilities, rather than what they've been offering to us... Or at least, show some of the older champs a bit of love and rework them (at least visually)
Well im pretty sure u just came back at the wrong time, they release the same amount of champs, but they release 2 champs within one or two monthes of each other and then take a long break. Ex. Lillia and Yone, Aphelios and Senna, Samira and Seraphine
Most of the recent champs are cool designs, Yone has the same Q as Yasuo but play entirely different, Lillia is an original AP jungler, Samira is playing DMC on League, Aphelios, Senna is a Support ADC.
They changed the lore to much. The League of Legends used to be an actual thing in the lore. It was an organization if I remember right. You were meant to be a summoner (within the LOL) controlling if not the actual character but a copy of the character. The fights were meant to be used as proxy's to solve political distress in lieu of open warfare. I liked that idea but for some reason they got rid of it. It used to make sense why these characters were even fighting each other. Now, other then it being a game. What is the reason any of these people are fighting? Some of these guys are meant to be mortal enemies or actual gods (they changed some people to be gods by the way, they were never meant to be gods originally) They also made everything grey, specifically talking about Demacia and Noxus. Demacia were the good guys (think He-man and his team) and Noxus were the bad guys (Skelator and his crew). Now, I would argue that while Noxus is brutal it isn't out right prejudicial like Demacia is. Demacia didn't use to be like that. Take Shyvana. In the old lore, while she was feared because, yea, she can turn into a dragon. They didn't have to have J4 do some weird logic to have her on his team. And they didn't lock anyone up.
It retrained them. There's no reason a villain like Jinx would be considered a "hero" for the League of Legends. Now we have other morally interesting characters too. And they overhauled the lore in order to make it coherent and consistent. It was needed. Now they can use the IP in any style of game they want instead of solely on the Rift. It still exists though. Pulsefire Ezreal is a dimension hopper and hints at it. The original lore is now an alternate skinline. We just follow this other canon instead.
At this point they're just dangling the skin in front of Ornn player's faces to keep them logging in. It'll probably never release either. Some kind of "Oh no we forgot haha" apology will be posted once per year.
Fun reminder for all the simple minded idiots out there who attack game designers: We can still be upset and criticize something harshly WITHOUT wishing ill will on the people who made it. :)

in my humble opinion, Seraphine should have been a siren (or a banshee), it fits the music concept also the more dark and badass side of the world of league but then it also has potential for a rlly hot and cool champion.

They even could've kept that weird fucking stage thing that they decided to add to her in order to differentiate her from Nami a bit more. What with two half girl half fish champions inevitably looking really similar normally. Then the stage would actually be pretty neat! It would be how she gets around on land!
Or, they could've gone with the bird siren route, and finally had a third champion with wings in the game. (no, Aatrox and Swain don't count. I'm talking *permanent wings* here) And there would be multiple different ways to make her design different from Kayle and Morgana. It really wouldn't be hard.
BOTH of these designs would also still fit the "cute anime waifu" design philosophy, while also still being more interesting/fitting to the world than what we got.

The problem with seraphine and KDA is that the band contests of a ninja, a succubus, a fox succubus and a girl from the void, and now they added a new member who is just a pop star. There's no point in making a KDA skin if she's already a popstar. It's like making a ninja skin for akali or an angel skin for Kayle.

I feel so incredibly bad for the Lore team at Riot. These people who you can tell genuinely love writing bios and stories and even entire comics about their characters, diving deep into the world and making cool colorful tales about what happens to them in the world. And then the marketing team, champion team, and Tencent create shit like this. This that no one cares about. Shit that doesn't fit on Runeterra and basically have nonexistent lore. If i were a story writer, I would hate having to work with something this poorly implemented and obviously created just to be a pretty face that makes money.

I picked up league right after Seraphine was released, and when I say “right after” I mean that she still cost 7800 essence in the store. My friend introduced me to KDA after I played for about a week and then I looked at Seraphine and the first thing I said to him in response was “so KDA was just made for seraphine?” He told me that KDA existed for a while before sera was teased to which I responded “so sera was just made for KDA?” To someone who had less than 15 hours in the game, it was obvious to see that she just didn’t fit in with the rest of league

The steampunk, victorian aesthetic of piltover feels like classical music would be played more there. The grimy, seemingly lawless region of zaun but in contrast to the clean technology of piltover definitely feels like something as rock could be developed as they aren't supposed to be sophisticated. The indie girl thing that seraphine has going for her is way too hyper modern and way too 'real' for the world of runeterra, even moreso kpop. Seraphine is like putting billie eilish in runeterra; it doesn't make sense for the aesthetic.

Make her normal look be her KD/A skin, and give her a steampunk design, make her only sing because she needs to, you can still make her hear the brackern, but make her act on it, make her character arc be a war against the Ferros and the rest of the Hextech users by having her be assisted by the crystals themselves and be an insanely powerful technomage who's willing to go against the system. Make her be SOMETHING. In this state, she's just a cute e-girl who's funny to play but who's still Riot's biggest failure.

People who think there's more than 2 almost infallibly end up being or already are the same people who believe that every gender is as valid as the last, and if that's TRUE and they're not FULL of it, then that means the literal thousands of genders people have been making up over the past half-decade could never possibly all see the light of day in league much LESS be portrayed "properly."
You're gonna tell me that not only Riot is going to kowtow to a fan request for representation, but they're gonna do it for over a thousand champions when we haven't even hit 200? Are they gonna hunt down every person who claims to have a new gender and make sure it gets into the game? Are you claiming that all of these other genders should be represented by MONSTERS when they haven't even been represented by HUMANS yet? I would hope not, that seems rather callous. It's fine to want the world to be different, and to change the world. That's how some of the greatest events in history occurred. The issue is when in order to chase that "dream" you spit in the face of history and what is indisputable fact that has been settled for centuries and is only just now being called into question NOT BECAUSE new information was found/discovered/proven to suggest otherwise (which would be FINE) but rather because a new group of people is arising in society claiming "This is my truth!" And for some reason the entire rest of society is supposed to just be like "A'ight man. You right." That of course being a joke, because you would have just "misgendered" them and then you wouldn't be arguing about how it makes sense to claim you are something you are not, rather you would now be having an argument of "Why would you say something so mean and insulting/invalidating?"
I'm sorry for going off on this tangent when it's primarily about league champion design, but frankly I'm sick and tired of seeing societal parallels in my videogames. Much like most other people, I come to games for an escape from what I'm seeing take place in the real world, yet it seems every time I boot this game back up, or watch community videos/talks, it is the same bs they're arguing about in the news. I obviously have my own opinion on this, and frankly as hard as I tried to make a convincing argument, my expectations (which I would prefer to be subverted) are that this will fall on deaf ears. Especially since this is planted in a small reply section people are liable not to see, much less read.

That's exactly my main problem with Seraphine. What the hell would she be doing in Piltover of all regions?? In fact, her concept itself doesn't fit in the universe of LoL. It's kind of a waste. That game has their own innocent, adorable idol singer, beloved by her home town, that just wants to sing to make everyone smile. Except she actually fits into the lore of the game, since she's the head of the church in her local nation, while connected to other characters and storylines. And her personality is written more like what Seraphine should've been to actually translate her K/DA persona into the lore (more soft spoken and dreamy, actually sounds in line with all her style of music, etc). I love her for this reason. Even if I don't use her in game anymore.
The real issue is they were forced to lock Seraphine as a piltover popstar. I know people stuck speculated her being a siren originally, but she should've been something like a new addition to the Solari, so Leona is not the only "good" Solari, and her idealistic nature would work better with such a "religious" and cultural society on Targon instead of the economic and scientifically driven Piltover. She needed to be somewhere else.

I would have loved a K/DA Sona skin. Even if she does not sing I do not give a shit. She has a DJ skin. Just give her the producer duty like they did with Yasuo on True Damage. As for canon League I would love to see more hideous (but badass) monster designs or hell even just give me another lore heavy character. Like as much as people complain about sexy characters, Samira actually adds to the lore of the game extremely well, FOR TWO REGIONS NONETHELESS TOO. I would have loved to see a Piltovian character which is more aware of the grit that the Zaunites go through and how fucked up the behind the scenes of how the society of two cities function.

As someone who mained Sona for years, Seraphine's existence is an insult, especially when Sona's last rework years ago was so halfassed and Seraphine was the kind of champion people wanted. The kind that could actually be played in the midlane again. "More wave clear please" - People "Okay, so get this, instead of Q hitting one target.... its hits 2 targets!" - Riot; Years later Sona knockoff gets 2 double AOEs and her E which usually gets cast immediately after W anyways is mashed together freeing up a skill slot for something actually useful. Seraphine's ult is a literal copy paste of Sona's but a bigger and better, more current lol standard version.
Also PS, Sett is a stolen Vi rework. It's so f'in obvious. Vi's been in need of a rework for a while now and Sett's kit is basically Vi's but polished to current LoL standards. Maybe if Arcane had come out sooner Vi might have got it with her more Asian appeal look she has in Arcane. I strongly suspect Yone was a shelved Yasuo rework cause they didn't want to mess with his iconic fart moves. Viego gives me Aatrox vibes.

I felt like they should've reworked Sona with Seraphine's abilities so she can go mid etc. And you noticed the whole Sett-Vi thing like YES MY FRIEND (Sett's ult and Q are very similar to Vi's and I honestly think Riot wanted a new champ but resorted for a Vi duplicate in a way). Vi needs a massive rework to keep her up to Arcane standards (her voicelines are sassy and aggressive but it doesn't entirely suit the 'good heart' vibe Arcane set for her) and she literally just needs lots of things to be fixed up like her abilities and damage etc. Also, didn't notice the Yone / Yasuo one, so thanks for pointing that out! :)

I think the problem with Seraphines design vs Sona is that her design is to close minded. A pop star that’s it and there’s nothing you can do to change that pop start musical aspect of her. Sona has a lyre and you can do so much with that like giver her a valentines one or a arcade and maybe a coven next year. Sona’s design works because you can expand on her idea. Seraphine however can’t be expanded because she was made on a simple on dimensional idea and nothing more and you can’t change Seraphine without the pop star aspect of her making anything she has like skins all just be a pop star with a different coat of paint.
Annie could've at least have an outfit change or something but still look similar to her original design.

They could’ve put Seraphine in Targon. They could’ve made it so that she ascended the mountain and became the aspect of art and music or something. She feels out of place in Piltover if not Runeterra in general. And I was genuinely excited for her release until I found out that she’s low key trash in her own lore.

This is one of my favorite ideas of how to improve her lore. Either that or just make her a special character unique to the KDA universe, where she's not in runeterra since they wanted to advertise her KDA persona the most. Either or would've been better than the half ass'd shit we have now. Plus more work on her kit. I could handle the ultimate staying the same if her other abilities were different. But thats crazy. Literally we got two champs in a row where they copied another champs ult and made it better (samira with kats ult, except she can move during it. Seraphine with sona's ult, except it extends after each person it hits.)
You know why this sounds so sad (for Riot)? It’s the fact the outsiders like you are able to come up with actually wonderful concepts for champions meanwhile the people at Riot are regurgitating cheap fanfics for their new champs. :(
The Aspect of Muse would be an interesting idea to spin on. Like singing is only ONE of the things she does as an ascended being, and have her inspires mortals to become better than their formal selfs in preparation for the terror that is about to come to Runeterra.
And after that, they can design her kit around buffing allies. It could still be music if they want, but having her as a Muse opens up many other opportunities. Like poetry, dance, sculpture... that would be a whole lot more materials to draw inspiration from.
Then her K/DA persona is just ramping up her music side in this alternative universe, which would be perfectly acceptable if not welcomed, considering how the 4 main members don't even have any musical stuff related to their base lores.
I have never in my life played LoL. I know basically nothing about the game, but a relative who does play got me into K/DA and the story animations. As someone who only knows LoL on a surface level, Seraphine came out of nowhere for me. I wasn't really a fan of her. Maybe she'll grown on me with enough exposure, but my initial gut reaction upon seeing MORE was that she felt out of place
Champs are made with less love and spirit with each new one, or that's what I feel.
Lets just take Ornn himfelf as example. His release came with this poem made of a combination of scandinavian languages. With also a beautiful and inspiring instrumental version. A character that resembles a part of what humanity (and mostly masculinity) values: an appreciation for hard and heavy work and craftmanship that someone has to do. His stories are told like myths to teach younger generations about what he stands for.
Even with his power and status as a demigod, he respects the will of the humans and beings of his land, not liking to be treated as a god, he prefers humans to build and smith for themselves, and not as a tribute to him.
This is why he acts the way he does in the game. He is like this grumpy grandpa that loves and cares about others, but doesnt want to be regarded in a special place and others to get attached to him and neither he to get attached.
This is actually a character that can inspire people, or atleast remind them to a paternal figure in their lives, maybe a father, a grandfather or an uncle.
I'm surely very wrong and not every character is as inspiring, but oh god, with Seraphine they just broke their own record when in comes to uninspiring an boring characters
I still think new characters can be just as cool, but not as often, yone and senna had really cool releases with really good lore, same with fiddlesticks and voli rework. But in 2016 2017 they came out with kindred, jhin, ornn, asol and camille while we had yuumi qiyana and seraphine lol

Ornn, despite me sucking at him, is probably one of my top ten champions mostly because of how he was introduced to us. I usually hold back on buying champs on release, but Ornn was the first one to truly reel me in. The song, his voice, his LORE, holy shit-Absolutely amazing. I really like hardened blacksmiths in fantasies, because they're often grumpy, wise, and secretly rooting for you, and Ornn just fits that bill.
Fast forward to 2020 and I get back to League and see Seraphine. I purchase her since, well, I main support. I gotta tell ya, no words can describe the disappointment I felt with her in my first match. While laning, I literally asked myself, "Hey, isn't this too similar to Sona?"
For the first time ever, I refunded a champion.
And I bought Sett, because I like his lore, and his kit looks (and feels) fun to play.
I don't play League but I went on their website to read K/DA's Runeterra lore. I started with Evelynn and ended with Seraphine and even I was disappointed, I can't imagine people who actually do play LoL and are invested in the story and game. Her lore felt like the stories of those bad Naruto OCs we would see on DeviantArt back in like 2007.

Saraphine should be an air head who doesn't understand hardship, that will make her seem condescending, but really it's just her naivety and innocence, though her conclusions for why hardship exists come across as someone who never worked a day in her life - and that would be right.
Her appearance: She was a blonde but privileged girl before she was blessed, (blessed by who you wonder?) she listened to no one, cared not for anyone, only herself in maintaining her comfort in life (pampered by her dotting parents who constantly called her their "angle".
Until the day finally came, where she would taste the hardship of empathy, during the war (the war between Piltover and Zaun), though her parents did well to keep her sheltered from such things, eventually though, the war came to her door step, she heard people screaming in the streets before, but seeing it was something else entirely.
Her parents could not protect her anymore from the cruelty of the world, and given her rebellious and spoiled nature, instead of hiding from it, she ventured out to see if she could help.
When she saw the destruction of war, and the blood being spilled on the streets, young and old laying dead in the streets, her heart sank even though she didn't understand, understand why all the pain and suffering.
She only knew that she wanted it to stop.
So while she was traveling through the bloody streets, taking in the ruins of a battle (while not trying to get herself dirty), she found a little boy laying in the street who was still alive, but bleeding badly.
Saraphine ran to the boy, not knowing what she would do.
She found herself driven by some unknown force which she had never experienced before; it was empathy.
Her heart though sanking, was soring deeply with pain, she held the little boy's head on her lap, and for once did not mind the blood even as it was staining her cloths, the little boy unaware of his surroundings asked "Mommy?", this question struck Saraphine's heart cords, because she knew that no matter how she would answer, it would not be satisfying to one who was dying.
All Saraphine could do was cry.
And when she did cry, her heart began to sing, a song of mourning and anguish, and without fully understanding, she found herself singing to this tone in her heart.
It was soothing to the little boy, for it was the song of caring, and the little boy thought he was hearing an angel.
And in that moment as Saraphine continued singing, with her tears dropping on the boy, they began to heal the boy, for Saraphine was going through a transformation, with her hair turned long and pink, and her dress stained with blood now glittered with blue and white, for her heart was pure and clean, her voice even became more powerful.
And onlookers who had escaped from the previous night's massacre (people who were in hiding during the slaughter) came out when they heard the song. Saraphine's voice was gentle enough to not harm the boy, but was actually strong enough to heal him, and yet her voice was powerful enough to penetrate through the walls of the surrounding houses. Her voice was an elegant mix of gentleness and strength, so that all who heard her voice, would not be deafened by it.
So when those who were hidden came to see who was singing, no one recognized Saraphine, but her song kept their attention, even the little boy who was now healed, remained with his head on her lap, just enjoying her song. One little girl grasping her mom's skirt asked "Mommy, is that an angel?", this was Saraphine nearing the end of her song, so when Saraphine finally came to realizing her surroundings, was able to hear the mother's reply "That is a saraphine, dear, they are one of the most powerful angels."
And though Saraphine knew she was not really an angel, she decided to let that title be her name, especially if it brought people comfort. So when she sat the boy up and he found his mom who had previously lost her son, Saraphine stood and came to realize her transformation, both accepting that and the people's attention on her.
She realized her voice was powerful, and figured she must have been born with magic that only awakened just now.
And that is where I would end Saraphine's story bio for now.

The thing is, Gragas' lore fits as it has him travel everywhere. He wants to brew a perfect brew so he traverses all of Runeterra for ingredients and brewing techniques. Eventually bringing him to Freljord where he uses True Ice to permanently keep the Cold Ones at perfect Temperature. With updated writing you could keep that concept and fit many a story of him going literally everywhere to find what he needs. They wanted to reduce access to healing in the new season because it was getting ridiculous, but the only thing they did was take out gunblade and replace it with something better for ap users, nerf conqueror healing but increase damage, nerf legend bloodline and replace athene with a wonky and half finished item (support items were obviously neglected, with a boring resistance aura on locket being the addition, Imperial Mandate not being released until the second wave of items on pbe, athene replacement not having ap initially) and making ravenous hunter a more all-around option. There's more and better anti heal options, but the new items overshadow them, and some items are just too good to be replaced. Even then, people can just go out of combat and heal for crazy amounts on jungle monsters or on the minion wave. But basically, they added even more healing to the game, while giving even more champs access to healing, and making lifesteal apply to physical on hit damage which makes it better.

Wholeheartedly agree, and I'd like to add a point alongside the cutesy parasocial bullshit: the fact that she's supposed to be this compassionate activist type of character, and yet does /nothing/ to even understand why Zaun and Piltover are eternally at odds. They could have made this work as her being a naive girl with a savior complex, yet they treat her mentality and methods of "combating" systemic oppression (i.e. just fuckin' sing pop songs in the street and hope unity happens) as something substantial. I still fly into a blind rage every time I see that picture of her tearfully eating ice cream while literally looking down at Zaun. It's such a perfect embodiment of people who talk a big game about changing the system, but do fuck all to actually help.

LoR yes. League no. Tbh, her newest lore retcon and redesign in LoR doesn't really fit the genre of music she sings. Yes she wants harmony between piltover and zaun but Zaun and piltover are entire different places with different attitudes to each other. And TBH, the least common denominator of both societies is their underclass. So what kind of music has its roots in disenfranchisement of the underclass? Rock n Roll. Specifically punk rock which Zaun borrows its aesthetic from.

idc what anyone says but for kda's more, the feature with lexie liu should have been someone like irelia with a new skin. the bridge, the graceful integrity, and the chinese instruments that describes a peacefulness, persevering character who was powerful but determined with constant memory of the past and where they started from, it all would fit irelia - the blade dancer who leads despite all her personal losses. i know about the whole nerf irelia thing but still, i feel like bringing her in with a new skin while maintaining her grace as well as her power/leadership, as the feature on the song, wouldve been perfect. lexie liu's voice compliments that grace and power perfectly. irelia should've been featured. another character i can think of is probably ashe, but i can't really imagine an ashe skin with this. on top of that, ashe grew up an archer, but personally i feel irelia would've been perfect as her blades have a story that reflects her entire lore and power. so, for me, irelia would've been the perfect feature. but seraphine as a feature on kda - a group of strong female characters with strong lores - was a huge question mark. especially when her part - chinese and the instrumentation and the flow of the vocals (i.e. grace and power etc) - was in no way really related to her character and past.
but anyway yes im lowkey salty coz i think irelia wouldve been perfect for the bridge and feature instead. sorry seraphine fans but it just didnt work.

I don't know about Kpop but this is the most cringe attempt at crowd chasing in the world. A crowd which doesn't exist in league, and I don't think it attracted any Kpop fans yet, outside the music videos. I've yet to meet a person who genuinely likes the K/DA group as anything more than fancy skins for their favorite waifu champ or whatever.

They've been creating champions really fast. I remember I quit playing LOL for a month and when I came back, Lilia and Yone were on the shop. I was like: wait, when did they become that fast at releasing champions?
In my opinion, I would prefer if they took their time to release a good champ with a good design, lore and abilities, rather than what they've been offering to us... Or at least, show some of the older champs a bit of love and rework them (at least visually)
Well im pretty sure u just came back at the wrong time, they release the same amount of champs, but they release 2 champs within one or two monthes of each other and then take a long break. Ex. Lillia and Yone, Aphelios and Senna, Samira and Seraphine
Most of the recent champs are cool designs, Yone has the same Q as Yasuo but play entirely different, Lillia is an original AP jungler, Samira is playing DMC on League, Aphelios, Senna is a Support ADC.
They changed the lore to much. The League of Legends used to be an actual thing in the lore. It was an organization if I remember right. You were meant to be a summoner (within the LOL) controlling if not the actual character but a copy of the character. The fights were meant to be used as proxy's to solve political distress in lieu of open warfare.
I liked that idea but for some reason they got rid of it. It used to make sense why these characters were even fighting each other. Now, other then it being a game. What is the reason any of these people are fighting? Some of these guys are meant to be mortal enemies or actual gods (they changed some people to be gods by the way, they were never meant to be gods originally)
They also made everything grey, specifically talking about Demacia and Noxus. Demacia were the good guys (think He-man and his team) and Noxus were the bad guys (Skelator and his crew). Now, I would argue that while Noxus is brutal it isn't out right prejudicial like Demacia is. Demacia didn't use to be like that.
Take Shyvana. In the old lore, while she was feared because, yea, she can turn into a dragon. They didn't have to have J4 do some weird logic to have her on his team. And they didn't lock anyone up.
It retrained them. There's no reason a villain like Jinx would be considered a "hero" for the League of Legends. Now we have other morally interesting characters too. And they overhauled the lore in order to make it coherent and consistent. It was needed. Now they can use the IP in any style of game they want instead of solely on the Rift.
It still exists though. Pulsefire Ezreal is a dimension hopper and hints at it. The original lore is now an alternate skinline. We just follow this other canon instead.
