I don't know if the lore changed, but what bothered me so much about Kai'sa is that in the original lore, Kassadin LOOKED into the void ONCE and became that monstrosity. Kai'sa LIVED THERE for her formative years and is just...fine thanks to this random parasite
Kai'sa, despite having lived in the Void for years, looks like a suoermodel, which makes me think that maybe the Void isn't that dangerous. Just for starters, that perfectly conditioned hair messes everything up. Like are you telling me that there's a fuckin hair salon in the VOID?!
@@carlfromaccounting1112 I think that can be considered her trying to look less like a monster, since Everytime she tries to save somebody from the void they end up running away screaming thinking she's one of the monsters
that was kind of the point, riot wanted to make a samus aran champion, a badass woman in a suit surviving alone in another planet (the void in this case) but instead of using the power armors for inspiration they went with the zero suit samus rute xD they only kept the shoulder pads and the helmet, but then she TAKES OFF THE HELMET, at least there is a toggle but come on
@@nezothgarone2319 I agree what the hell Riot? She looks like she had time to fix her make up in a Monster ridden dimension no wounds no muscles and for some reason a perfect understanding of the outside world she was taken by the void at a "Young" Age yet she seems more knowlegable than Olaf.
What I love about Kassadin‘s breathing apparatus that it’s sells how the Void is an alien, deadly atmosphere. Yes, they could make his stuff look more Shuriman. Maybe loose the unnecessary spikes, unless the idea is they’re part of his mutations. It also looks like something Ridley Scott or H.R. Giger might sculpt.
@@graveslayer9666 He often travelled to Piltover, since he was a guide for merchants and travellers, so it is very possible he has Piltover/Zaun gear too. Still wish he got a rework though, his character is very underrated, he's basically LoL's doomslayer.
@@graveslayer9666 I hope they give him an ASU some day too. He technically got one like six years ago but he would really benefit from one now that they're holding them to higher standards.
In warhammer, there's a character called Mortarion where his breathing apparatus fuses with his face. The rest of the legion he leads has mutations and fusing with armor in general. I think Mortarion would be a good basis to inspire a new Kassadin.
@@Lana_the_witch considering that there are a few references to 40k in league (such as Darius and Garren skins) I think some more influence would be welcome.
I don't remember it being fused to Mortarions face, doesn't he remove it once in a while or am I misremembering cause I could of swore he removed it when he met Guilleman for the first time.
@@mrcaterpillow9926 His chaos primarch looks like it's part of his mouth. Admittedly, I haven't read his newer staff, I just know of his exploits in the heresy. Point being, I think his current look and his model looks like it would be a great starting point for Kassadin.
Worst part is. They could actually redesign all these characters that dont really fit anymore with everything new, new looks, story that inspires the new look and everything, and just release a free skin of their original designs. Like Karma and Trundle. Annie looks so out of place is insane, as she doesnt even look neither noxian, nor in canon universe, League has advanced so much into its own storytelling that base Annie looks like a skin. Yi is another one, the wuju style in canon is so amazingly worldbreakingly broken, and he runs around with fucking knife boots. I would love to see a Yi and say "this dude could end the world and chooses not to" and not X-men reject lmao
This has been said by almost everyone at this point, but it sucks how generic Kayle looks... looks straight out of those foreign mobile game ads I sometimes get advertising how you can pay to skip a couple levels and unlock generic armor and wings. It's kinda funny because ever since Arcane came out and Project L was announced I've seen a lot of people look over the LOL cast and give their first impressions... and Kayle is always described as a generic mobile game/ cheap mmo ripoff lmao
Kayle needs more love from Riot, the other Kayle skins are more Kayle than Kayle herself, to be an aspect of justice that has to impose the law and that hose things , seem more Mercy from overwatch the truth when I started playing her when I started thinking it was support.
Cheap mmo? Yeah of course gay kid. In terms of PC gaming lol is the most cheap game. Also lol is nothing but a overrated rip off of dota 2. Understand this cringe kid of lol
I imagine she's gonna appear on the "missed potential" list too. Kai'Sa could have been an absolutely excellent character if Riot would have simply decided to ignore the sex appeal and go hard on the "girl fused with a voidborn" idea. The possibilities are absolutely endless with that character, which makes it all the more annoying that it just wasn't explored.
Fun fact: GRAGAS IS NOT AN ICEBORN. He’s a regular dude, pretty sure not even from the Freljord, but he’s massive and wants to get drunk to bond with people I think? But he’s so massive he’s basically immune to alcohol so he’s trying to make the perfect brew
Riot got bought out by tencent in 2015, add one and a half years for when champions start to get made vs when they release and the first champions designed under 100% tencent control are: Xayah and Rakan. Hey look at that, the start of the Sexy humanoid character design spree we are still on.
@@ultratog1028 Sexy humanoid character design spree? am I missing something here? I looked at champions by release date the other day for fun, and the majority were just humans, seraphine, viego, akshan, gwen, rell etc
@@thegames4565 well lilia is a humanoid. the point is tencent just like every other eastern gaming company, focuses on selling sexy characters rather than the built up designs a lot of western community is used to. Planning for this to be a 3 part series, with the top 10 most missed potential champions and top 10 best coming out within the next while :D So do let me know if you guys like this kind of content and if you'd want to see more of it.
I disagree with Annie being "Master Yi but worse". Master Yi's problem is that his iconic features are profoundly stupid : "the 7 lenses goggles" and "swords on EVERY DAMNED PIECE OF CLOTHING" Annie iconic features are "redhead child with fire", "looks like she's came out of elementary school 2 mins ago" and "TIBBERS" The second one can be changed. Her backstory is that she's an errant child living in rural Noxus since she killed her dad and step-mother, that occasionnaly gets adopted until her new parents dies because they dared touch Tibbers. They could give her the dress she has in her cinematic, change the backpack color get rid of the bear pin, and maybe replace it by a daisy to reference her step-sister, and replace her sock with something that covers her legs completely. As for the cat hearband, yeah you could throw that out of the window and maybe replace it by something that would look a bit more noxian ? Probably not something from her mother because that's already Tibbers, but maybe a reminder that she actually kills people and loot them innocently, something that would look out of place on a child that she would have gotten at some point. That or nothing, works too
@@BalinAila 1 : This comment was made before she was released on LoR and got a lore update. Tibbers was just some unknown local demon that took vessel in the stuffed toy Annie's mom was making for her while pregnant 2 : I brought up her backstory to talk about how her design could be changed. And LoR's version of Annie is just much better with barely any changes. More medieval clothing and a backpack that actually looks like someone moving a lot would use in Noxus, and the uniform color of the headband's *combined with darker lighting on her splash arts actually makes them look like devil horns rather than cat ears. Not 10/10 design, but it works very well
As an Annie main, I gotta agree. It's a shame since she did get a nice model update a while back but it didn't change the design really much to match modern Noxus at all. And for some reason they didn't even update her voice lines much so she really doesn't feel like she fits in anywhere. Thing is, I think they COULD update her and keep the schoolgirl aesthetic while making it more obviously Noxian. Because that shit fucking exists already in Legends of Runeterra. Vlad's support cards, the Crimson units, are aristocratic school kids that are into his blood magic. They have what's clearly meant to be an "academy" type outfits but it still is obviously Noxian. Just do the same with Annie. Keep her a schoolgirl, but just give her schoolgirl outfit ANY Noxian flair. And update her damn voicelines this time please.
What I live about Kassadin‘s breathing apparatus that it’s sells how the Void is an alien, deadly atmosphere. Yes, they could make his stuff look more Shuriman. Maybe loose the unnecessary spikes, unless the idea is they’re part of his mutations.
I feel like Gwen fits more in the 'lost potential' category in that the concept is very clearly there, but the execution is lacking. I've seen tonnes of fan concepts of what she COULD have looked like, and my goodness are there some interesting ones ranging all the way from sweet and cute to outright creepy (I'm of the opinion that somewhere in the middle is about right). If Riot executives weren't pushing their artists to make all human(oid) female champions conventionally cute/sexy then I'm sure they could've come up with something much cooler, but... yeah. Also, a small note on Kassadin: moreso than Darth Vader (although there is a certain resemblance) Kass is an expy of Zeratul, and by extension all of the Protoss Dark Templar from Starcraft. The Protoss in general have psychic armblades, but I think I'm right in saying that only the Dark Templar have the ability to teleport short distances and have a more assassin-like playstyle than normal Templar, so that's almost certainly where Kassadin came from - perhaps with a bit of Anti-Mage mixed in?
For me Kai'Sa also fits perfectly into the "wasted potential" The concept of a void symbiosis with a human is dope, and could've been approached very nicely of leaning more into the monstrous side and less into Scarlett Johansson
Love that he puts gwen the same as genshin impact characters. It's so fitting lol, fcking attractive anime figure for horny sex appeal with no depth is all I can see for both genshin and gwen
I think they should go the other way and turn him into an abomination of rotten flesh and cloth. Unable to live, unable to die and unable to touch. Constantly decaying, yet everlasting. Every moment of his miserable existence a hellish torture for him and any poor soul who unknowingly crossed paths with the cursed mummy...
I do like the idea of kass. A character thats older then his time, fighting back the void and then getting stuck there, the ancient armor fusing to his body, and once he manages to escape he's in a place unfamiliar to him with all his relatives and family dead. I think if kai'sa's suit truly was a void creature symbiote and not "sexy suit" then they could make a great dynamic
Kayle's design annoys me because I was so looking forward to it. Just before their rework, Paladins introduced Furia whose the sister to the previous champion Seris, and the two of them were very inspired by Kayle and Morgana. Furia is a bit more "Leona" personality wise but she still has that Angel of Justice aspect. Its also cool because they're both supports. But her design is so cool looking, I was excited to see how Kayle would outdo her. And then she's just got spandex, in weird places.
I hope they start doing a lot of ASUs to fix these old designs. I get the feeling for Kassadin that if they want to keep his futuristic look, they will probably change a his lore a bit to connect him to Zilean so that they could say he stole a suit of void armor from a future timeline to travel into the void to find his daughter.
I had previously thought that Sylas was the turning point when they started making all the new champions some amount of "conventionally attractive" but it was Kai'Sa. Every male character after her has either had a six pack or been Aphelios, and the only female characters after her that are not conventionally attractive are a cat and a yordle.
I feel like gwens design would’ve been fine especially considering she’s a fun character if it wasn’t for the fact that there’s already like 70 other characters that look exactly the same as her
Gwen's design is good if you take it for what it is, really. If you ignore the fact that she *could* have been better if she were actually a doll, she does very much fit the design of "humanized doll".
I think shes a victim of context, and at least she as an ore explanation to look this way, I mean why should Isolde design a doll ugly on purpose. And in her lore, it is stated that she was turned into a human and not into a half doll half human.. thingy.
I think Gwen's visual design is deliberately not doll-like. Her being an unblemished human is due to whom she gets her powers from, Isolde. It's supposed to be a contrast to Viego's tendency to corrupt and dehumanize anything he gets control over. If Viego represents the selfish nature of love, then Isolde represents love's selfless nature. When Gwen, as a doll, wished to become human Isolde did not just give the doll life, she granted Gwen's wish and turned her into nothing less than a human. I think this would've been more apparent if only the Sentinel storyline was actually good, but as it stands it failed Gwen. Also she isn't meant to fit in, she's a doll made in a completely different continent with its own culture of course she wouldn't look or dress like the others just as how Viego doesn't quite fit in either
@@SilverWarrior95 true, but i think that it's more on the fault of the concept and design of the ruined skins. Even then, despite being visually appealing, their personalities were turned into warped and corrupted versions of why they succumbed to Viego to begin with, at least with MF and Shyvana. Draven and, to a certain extent, Pantheon the dead aspect of war were malevolent to begin with. Karma, I have no clue how and why she even got corrupted even after reading her part in the ruination game event
Not to mention, the whole Shadow Isles themselves were made that way because of Viego. The original Ruination was the one who made Hecarim, Kalista, and Thresh in addition to the countless natives of the Blessed isles and visitors from Camavor. A big portion of the SI card designs in LoR are based on the corruption that Viego brought and as far as I can remember not much of them looked too pretty either.
I was fine with Gwen's design at first but after the event and her voice line's changed I STARTED HATING HER because in her new voice line's she is almost as selfish as if not more than viego she is willing to keep Isolde scattered and fragmented if it means that she stays with her and not with viego no matter what ( I am not counting the plot twist in the ruined king game because in my opinion it was a very bad writing choice and alot of people agree with that it was) she also straight up tell yorick to be nice to the maiden that is TOURTURING him if that is not narcissistic I don't know what it is ? She is as obbssive with Isolde as viego only defrecnce is that she isn't trying to destroy the world to bring her back ( although she is willing to keep her fragments away from him even though he would stop everything if he got her back and keeping her away from him and locking him away DOSENT solve any problems but is delayeing it and let IT snow ball all the way down ) and that no one is calling her out on that I was fine with her design at first because I thought she was going to be a beacon of hope for the shadow isels characters that she is going to bring the good and humanity left in yorick, maokai, and maybe even viego I would have loved if they had a Thanos and gamora type of relationship and I would have loved if it turned out that yorick or maokai were the ones who taught her about the hallowed mist that way she can have more conictions to the shadow isels but THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN , her dynamic with viego is so genaric with no coplixity WHATSOEVER and she doesn't intercat with yorick until the very end and we all know how that turned out , and doesn't know about maokai at all She is such a wasted character both design wise and Lore wise
in his lore, kassadin was a merchant of artifacts, every single part of his armor is soposed to be from random ruins, the design of every single part should be distinct from one another but the in game/splash art design looks like it is a propper suit with some parts missing instead of random relics picked form random places put together on a wim
It would have been better if they changed Annie's clothes to fit her looks on her animation. And make her more mourning for her loss of step sister, mother and father. Instead of just saying nursery rhymes that ends with something burning.
Man, I'm glad you brought up Sewn Chaos Ori when talking about Gwen because that's what i wish they would have done. Imagine, if they made he an actual doll, they could have gone for some like " she's so cute that it's kinda creepy" with proper movement, animations and dialogue. Super lame
You could argue that LeBlancs appearance makes sense as she is a master illusionist and could alter her looks to look the way she wants, and if you had that power would you choose to look ugly? Would you really now? (I still think she should have Neekos passive but she came out a bit to early for that i guess)
Man, I feel like most people doesn't remember the villainess Mage on the old Conan the Destroyer. I'm pretty sure Leblanc was inspired from the character and makes me think her character design was justified. I mean Tryndamere was inspired by Conan the barbarian himself.
I don't mind Leblanc being a pretty face, what I do mind is that her clothing is non-sensical. Leblanc is a being with immense power that works in the shadows, unless she wants to lure someone in she's not showing up, and you do not lure people in with that... body suit thingy she's wearing. That shit looks so odd anyone with a single braincell would notice there's a problem, nobody dresses up like that, not in any Runeterran country and not even in our world.
"Gwyn looks like a fucking Genshin Impact character" Me: *sweats* No but ok fr you're right lmao she could very EASILY fit into mondstadt as an affiliate of the nights of favonius, she looks good but yeah she doesn't look doll enough
I personally have to disagree on the argument, that Kayle should be more armored the stronger she gets. She is ascending more and more, she is becoming more and more divine, it makes sense to me that she loses armor, that she loses that protection against the mortal weakness of mortality. Armor is a very human thing and especially in her design has a lot of knight association (which makes sense, because Demacia). Now what is a thing a god shouldnt look like? A knight. A servant to a king who is a servant to a good! In my eyes her armor in her base form is actually to little (that purple spandex looks fcking stupid) but giving her more armor when she turns divine makes no sense to me personally like a lot of depictions of gods (even Ares, the damn god of war) have....essentially no clothing, they are naked. I dont think Kayles design is amazing but her letting go of her armor, the heavy shell being a symbol of servitute and mortality, I think that is a really well integrated aspect (get it...? aspect?....nvm) Tl:dr Kayle loosing armor while becoming stronger makes more sense than gaining armor (in my eyes)
True, it does makes sense looking at it that way. Personally, I would like it if rather she started with heavy armour, weighing her down, and as she ascends, her armour is replaced with more holy attire. As she becomes more powerful, she becomes something closer to perfection. Heavy bulkiness gets replaced into sleek and efficient. Of course, in the end, it's really just a preference of how one would wish to see her representation of power become stronger.
Yeah man I agree. I don't see people making the same arguments for taric or panth. Hell taric is the protector and he doesn't wear armor or have a shield.
@@throstlewanion I see your point and while a otherworldy godlike being (smth in the biblically accurate angel direction or so) would be interested a lot of gods are depicted as idealized humans in a regard so it atleast makes sense that she is pretty in my eyes Horrifying weird alien angel would be hella cool tho!! (might lose the contrast between beautifull outside horrifying inside but eh worth it)
jhin is indeed the perfect champ, 1- solid idea 2- solid execution also because kindred came to be thanks to him 3- solid gameplay, balanced and fun in both cases, against him or playing him 4- solid theme, lore and in game script delightfully sublime
But she is. Sera is bad, but at least she looks like what she is suposed to be: a basic indie pop girl. Gwen looks NOTHING like a doll from the shadow isles.
@@x-nimator9997 Seraphine is bad cause she just isn't a league character and was never meant to be, she is a KDA character with a league skin stapled on
@@Marcos750418 Seraphine just isn't a league character though, she's exactly what nicky complained about when it comes to how monster champions are ignored in favour of generic nothing characters, also seraphine again isn't a league character, She's a KDA character who has a league skin
Yeah, I agree, but that doesn't change the fact that she has a "canon" version in runeterra that fits it's purpose much better than gwen. It's clear that KDA sera is the true champion.
I've always wanted Kasadin's mask to be an old ascended/bacai mask that got lost to time. The bacai one would have more thematic parallels, since they are failures that try to cover their horrible mutations up, like Kas' failure to fully stave off the void, similar to Yorick's blue skin.
honestly I like to think of Kayle taking her helmet off as being like, she's stronger and closer to being a god/aspect that she no longer needs the helmet. She's passed the level of being human. Donno though
Even tho I really enjoy Gwen's gameplay and design I must admit that, from an objective point of view, her design fails to deliver the theme of a living doll. I think if she was a porcelain doll it wouldn't be that bad but since she was made by a seamstress, using buttons and pieces of cloth, those things not showing in her finally design fells kinda bland.
@@mikevos4460 I understand that but there are a lot of abilities that can be argued to be just as BS, look at yas windwall, it literally makes everyone on your team hiding behind it immune to projectiles, yone literally has a Zed R on his E, akshan exists. In the grand scheme of game breaking bs Gwen is bad but there is some worse out there certainly.
One thing that always get brought up when people talk about character design is over sexualization. In my opinion over sexualization is fine if it fits the character like with Xayah, Samira or Eve but is bad when it's forced like with Kaisa or leblanc.
Kai'sa's design out of context is pretty good, it looks cool and it's very alien. In context and based on what we know about the void, it's just skin-tight symbiote armour that looks sexy. There's nothing wrong with sex appeal, but considering the environment that Kai'sa is in you'd think she'd be more prepared than just sexy symbiote armour.
"Gwen doesn't even have button eyes or doll textures." you know there's other types of dolls besides rag dolls right? Gwen is supposed to be a *porcelain* doll and she looks exactly like one. Everything about her design makes sense as a porcelain doll. from the doll like face to the outfit, everything is inspired by porcelain dolls.
Whenever Riot gave a Visual Update to a Champion, regardless of what they did to their kit I could always confidently say that the rework made the Champion look better. Until they updated the Angel sisters. Yeah, Kayle is the one Champion that actually looks WORSE after her visual update. I can't believe that they took this cool fully-armored angelic warrior woman and gave her fucking yoga pants of all things! it doesn't look cool, it doesn't look reasonable, and it doesn't even look sexy. It just looks dumb.
I get that Leblanc is wearing almost no clothes on her original design, but i don't think her having sex appeal goes against her being a master of deception, i'd argue it reinforces it, having someone be attractive but evil plays right into being deceptive, giving a false sense of security rather than if she looked like a fucking mordekaiser of sorts.
sorta except for the fact that she literally has mind control. You don't need to wear revealing clothes to use mind control... Also there has never been a manipulative person I've seen in my whole life that wears lingerie as their daily active wear. just think to yourself. would a manipulative man wear the same damn clothes to get people to bend to their will?
@@LevityRhodes Like i said, i'm not disagreeing when it comes to the original design, it is just underwear on there, it's more how he complained about the runeterra design which did change that. Also, the casanova trope exists and has been explored various times with a shirtless guy, i could totally a design similar to sett, maybe a little softer looking, being used as a manipulator type character.
about kyle: i find the idea of a character removing armour as they get stronger so fucking fascinating, like the stronger they become the more confident they become the more they think they are bound to win. take thanos he starts the movie with armour but once he has 2 infinity stones he teuly becomes unstoppable so he removes the armour at that point its just going to weigh him down. same with kyle ahe gets her strength from magic not armour and weapons sure it helps but it makes sense she would remove some once her real magic atarts to kick in.
Funnily enough, about the thing with ashe, when I started playing, not knowing the lore. I thought that Sejuani was the queen, not ashe because of her design!
The only thing that I can think of why they'd go with a less armory design of Kayle is because of her gameplay, they wanted her to be squishy by gameplay, her having a high speed and damage but squishy.
Being charitable, a generic anime girl in different outfits is basically the exact definition of a modern doll. She works on a meta level as she's so plainly waifubait that she's a soulless doll in universe and out.
Trynda has so much missed potential in my opinion. He is "local man too angry to die" the champion, Freijordian will and hardiness personified. Imagine this dude lost in the ice, a freezing corpse who shouldn't be moving anymore, but every second he forces his body to go on, literally shattering the frozen flesh as it constantly reknits itself. A monstrosity by all means, yet he still fights for his people simply because his soul and will burn so bright that nothing can extinguish their flame, a walking god and avatar of human might who stands against the primordial powers of the icy wastes. Hell, you could build up a trio of some sort between him, Braum and a reworked Gragas as folk heroes who exemplify human qualities. Braum is selflessness and heroism, Gragas could be hospitality, compassion and art to a certain extent (in this dynamic I'd imagine him as a brewmaster and culinary genius dedicated to his craft and how it can impact the lives of others) and Tryndamere is the steadfast and indomitable will to push forward and stand our ground. It could even offer the opportunity to delve more into his relationship with Ashe, either have it as a political bond or even a bittersweet romance. Maybe they got together before Tryndamere became what he is and he follows her cause in semi-death, determined to help her as much as he can while knowing that, should she succeed, his existence wouldn't fit in with her plans for their people and they couldn't be together. There so much they could do with him, but all we have is angry sword man.
Tryndamere I feel like it’s such a waste because like, his lore is so cool. In canon, he has his q, an accelerated healing and monstrous rage that makes even the harshest and most brave warriors of Ashe terrified of him once they see him angry. And, the reason he has this healing and all this shit it’s because Aatrox is kinda grooming him. Aatrox was the one that killed his village and left him for dead, but he saw his rage and unwillingness to die so he kinda gave a piece of himself to him, to grow more powerful as his rage goes on. It could be an awesome design showing a bit of the redness and corruption of Aatrox when his rage is full or he uses his ultimate.
@@mistercleff8819 The problem with his connection to Aatrox is that it's a remnant of Aatroxs *old* lore. In the new version Aatrox is mad and convinced that the only way for him to find peace is to annihilate everything else. Then it begs the question: why would he foster a berserker? It's neither in line with his motivation nor mentioned in his own core lore. I agree their bond COULD be very interesting but it only goes one way as of now because Aatrox was completely revamped while Trynda got left in the dust.
Kassadin : I looked once into the void to find my daughter and became the absolute monstrosity you see today Kai’sa : I lived in the void for years and became a Kardashian sister, gained a living spandex suit (which is a kink btw) with fucking HEELS and massive cleavage, I don’t have a single scar or muscle despite spending my whole life fighting against monsters who are trying to kill me. A void surgeon even gave me a Brazilian butt lift lol I’m am so COHERENT
IT be fine if thats what Zyra was but shes not but ether way i don't have a stake in that i only really hate her jessie from pokemon hair i don't mind that shes a sexy plant monster.
shes literally just a rip off poison ivy she grows plants and shit and her hair being perfect just like kai sa doesn't make any sense shes not going anywhere to get her hair done she is supposed to represent the trees and grass and shit not sexy cosplay plant lady
Another simple fix to Kassadin would be to make the armor come from Zaun, they have spikes and breathing aparatus there like candy. Kai'sa is a tragedy, a really missed opportunity. It would have been more epic if she came out of the void with that sexy face and all that, but have it as a flickering illusion hiding what the Void has truly done to her beneath. She should have a Third Eye on her forehead, which is a calling card of the void corrupting people. Make her skin pruple, giver her tentacles, spikes, make it fully alien. In game you can pick her illusion femme face, or her real monstrous face.
As a matter of fact, the breathing aparatus does come from Zaun. As a matter of fact most of his stuff is not shuriman besides the netherblade of horok as far as i know.
I'd defo put Kai'Sa in the missed potential category. If she was a barely human, half-void insane mess of a person she could have been fantastic. The problem is now, what do they do with Kassadin? How can they rework him while explaining why he needs all this shit and she doesn't?
Even Paragon, the failed MOBA made by Epic, had a version of Wukong. He was actually really fun to play, probably the best Wukong I’ve played out of any game
While I do see what you mean with the Genshin thing, I do not condone the comparison of Gwen and IT. Gwen is supposed to be Isolde’s companion and avatar in her fantasies. So what better way to convey that than a magical girl running around in a cute dress with fantastical powers and giant magic scissors?
See the thing is, all those things, is what makes Gwen great. But they literally made her look like a generic cute Genshin character. She can still be a magical girl in a cute dress with giant magic scissors, while also looking like a doll someone made at the age of 12 come to life. With button eyes, or limb proportions that are just SLIGHTLY off. There's a lot of wasted potential in her design imo. What she is, is fine. She just could've been so much more
@@Ghilannugs I agree with you 100%, I do not however agree that she is a worse design then seraphine, I’m happy that at least a couple other people actually know her lore instead of looking at her splash art.
@@armanroyai6601 i think Seraphine and Gwen both should be in another category, with wasted potential. Sure they both hit the mark for what they went out to do. But neither lives up to what they could've been if the design went another angle
Gwen is just Nui Harime from Kill la Kill without the "Insane Psycopath" tag. She's still fun to play as a Champion, but the design is just so fucking weird for the Mist. I think they should've made something similar to the Plain Doll from Bloodborne because that is exactly the vibe that region and her Backstory are giving me.
I feel like Gwen is actually one of the only champions that has a reason to look so ‘perfect’, and that’s because she was a doll made by Isolde and combined with her soul, to become Isolde’s vision of ‘a beautiful princess with a doll like face and pretty clothing’. The problem is, riot had already pushed out way too much ‘perfect beauty’ into champions before her, meaning that poor Gwen’s potentially good design is stale because champions like kaisa and serafiend have saturated that area, when they really didn’t need it, and Gwen did.
tbh i listen to your opinions on league characters because sometimes you hit the nail on the head so hard that the nail goes through the wood, but sometimes you also miss the mark really hard and i like to compare your thoughts with mine to see what i could be wrong about and if we share similar thoughts
Le Blanc is one of the few characters, like Ms Fortune or Evelyn , for whom a super sexual outfit makes a lot of sense. They use their sex appeal to manipulate people, the lure them or distract them and they all do it knowingly and purposefully, either to be trusted, wanted or to use the stereotype of the woman who is nothing but eye candy against their rivals and enemies. Women being aware of and wielding their sexuality and desirability as means to an end aren't bad character design. Women who wear a sun dress with a cape in a frozen wasteland for no reason, who would personality wise have no reason to dress like that are bad character design.
I thank you so much for talking about Kai Sa problems, I was waiting for that champ since I started playing and when she came out she was such a disappointing that I just can't let it go.
You didn't mention it but just in case she has a cinematic where her design looks better. If they were to do an ASU on her i think they should make her current splash art in to a skin called original or classic Annie
While I don't like Gwen's design, I can see where the creators came from:keep in mind that she was Isolde's doll that came to life. She isn't a living person, in order to be dark/gothic type of "doll", she is the creation of Isolde, and she was a kind and happy person(and also a seamstress).
I think a rebuttal to the gwen breakdown is that as the counterpart to viego, having her look more doll like would hurt the contrast of isoldes life to viegos undeath. Plus, as an imaginary princess invented by a little girl she makes sense as an anime character. if league wasnt already saturated with pretty anime girls gwen would be a better design, but as it stands she doesnt have a real niche despite the design technically making sense.
I like Gwen’s design at the end. At first I struggled liking her design because I was like “oh no another cute champion” but after a while and reading some comments of her creations from the designers and that she’s more based inspired on Pinocchio which makes sense, I finally got to like her design but this is just my opinion. Shaco it’s already puppet in league and once he gets reworked hopefully he would look cool and scary.
I'm on the same boats, the expectation of what a "doll" champion should be and the context of her release (along other hot champions) really hurts the perception others have of her. But in a vacuum, I think the "creepy life-sized doll" is actually an overplayed archetype (not in league but in media in general), so having a wholesome twist with Gwen being Isolde's representation of what a pretty princess is, well, it's kinda cool, and it plays into the other meaning of doll (which is the "perfect" features). And she's cute and endearing, so yeah, I like her
@@Korinengamecorp well said and I agree and between Gwen, Oriana and Shaco they all three fill that void of the stereotypical enchanted doll. Hopefully Oriana gets a VU like Caitlin and Shsco a VGU. I believe eventually they will realest a champion just that but for now those three fill that void for me!!!!
For Yi, I feel they should redesign the helmet to resemble his headhunter version, with 6 stripes rather than 7 lenses. Then they should double down on the oriental design, get rid of the dumbass sword boots and maybe change the yellow to a less fugly tone.
I disagree with Gwen. I disagree with the whole "bleh E-boy/girl" complaints in general, but I particularly disagree with Gwen. I agree more with Skyen, that Gwen's design makes sense for her character, because as he says, she is Isolde's Disney princess OC, she looks that way because her concept is Isolde's cute princess character come to life. As for the E-boy/girl nonsense. I will agree that Kai'sa is blah. I will agree that we shouldn't have had such a long string of those kinds of designs. I won't agree that they're automatically bad, because a majority of them make sense. Kai'sa and Sylas are flawed because they DON'T make sense for their characters. Those are the ones I take issue with. Sett? Makes sense, he's supposed to be a tough gladiator kingpin, I absolutely believe he'd just go around shirtless all the time. Viego, I once again agree with Skyen, he is supposed to be a vision of temptation. Akshan is admittedly more of a conceptual level, he's supposed to be a Prince of Persia like pretty boy. That's what his character in all facets was designed to be. Even Seraphine. Even Seraphine makes sense. Take issue with her character, or the fact that she is a KDA advertisement before anything else all you want. Her design works for her character, she is an idol. She looks immaculate and sparkly because she's trying to be an idol, and idols try to look immaculate and sparkly.
People (myself included) don't really have a problem with the fact that they have this "E-boy/girl" aesthetic. It's that we are geeting so damn many of them.
@@Gnomgnash A lot of people are treating it like the aesthetic itself is an issue and the amount of.them is a different issue. I do agree that the amount could be cut down on a lot, but as designs themselves, a lot of people treat every single one like they're bad, when really only a handful of the designs actually are
I actually started a drawing of Kai'sa in my own take cuz I also don't like the direction that they took her lol. Why is she so perfect in the void while her dad is actually getting affected by it I don't get it
Fun fact, an old version of Amumu's splash art used to imply with very little vagueness that Amumu was meant to be a mummy child, with two parent figures made out of magic besides the little bandage Amumu. It then got changed cause I assume *dead child* is too dark for Riot (despite Annie being a self-made orphan)
Here is the thing about ashe tho: she is not a queen , she is a warmother , she doesn't have to look like royalty , because she isn't , she is a tribe leader. Also iceborn ARE immune to cold.
The entire top half of Master Yi's body screams scifi and yeah that could be changed, but I actually like the extra sword in his boot, that's why he has the double auto thing
Yeah. She has some problems, true, but she's far from being worthy of a spot on this list. Her armor is very Demacian-looking, especially if you look at Demacian cards in LoR. And the "Mobile Legends" complaint is stupid. It's something you could attribute to, like, more than a half of LoL female Champions. imo Leona is worse than Kayle. They have a close theme which makes comparison easier.
07:34 I don't understand this point, why is she supposed to get more armor and be bulkier? She is becoming a 'transcended' being making her less 'mortal' so why need more armor or become more bulky for.
She's ascending because she rejects her human heritage. So the idea of more armor would be to cover her up to hide her humanity. She is but a soldier demanding justice instead of an expressive angel.
@@amandaslough125 But nothing about Kayle looks 'human' even with her helmet off, she looks like an otherworldly being. It makes more sense to embrace figure then cover it up with 'mortal' armor. She is 'transcended' no need for armor at all.
@@OmenLamb concept: Greek Gods and Gods in general, alot of their art is them but ass naked but each time in their myths they get armour and weapons that protects them and more-so for devine people aspiring to BECOME Gods, this is why Perseus Pantheon is one of the favourites skins of my peers, he looks more Godly and Greek and such but still keeps to character Being devine doesnt mean you go and become a waifu because she becomes less humane but they insist on giving her more sexualised physique for a woman who's job is being brutal justice, if anything mroe armour fits her because more armour exemplifies the brutality and rigidness of law (Ahem knights and gaurds) Rant over, have a nice day, in the end RITO has the final say and every design can work if executed well
@@magniwalterbutnotwaltermag1479 Well they executed Kayle pretty well. Pantheon is a mortal, Kayle is trying to 'transcend' beyond mortality, there's a reason goddesses in most mythologies were less armour and look less bulky. I don't know why you want the Aspect of Justice, a symbol of peace to look hideous & Monstrous like Mordekaiser instead of otherworldly beautiful like more gods. Knights and Guards? why do you want her too look like a mortal she's transcending from that not trying to look like them, they need that armor she doesn't. Leona is an aspect and wears full Armor but putting her side to side with a 'transcended' Kayle she looks like a mortal while Kayle looks Godly so I don't know why you people love armor so much even Rell in her full armor doesn't look as close to being a powerful as Kayle. I don't know why you assume More Armor = More Brutality, Demacian wear full armor but don't look brutal at all, Noxians wear full armor but aren't even close to looking as brutal as Volibear's Ursine who wear no armor.
@@OmenLamb the concept of brutality is not just the brutish might makes right, there is a reasonnwhy i also brought up rigidness as kayle represent an executioner more akin to the ideals of Noxis as others like TBskyen points out as a subversionnof most demacian ideals, she is described almost like the Wolf kindred, an avenger Mortality also does nothing for excusing wearing less armour, Janna is another of these as her attire makes her seem neither like a Goddess worshipped by the downtrodden nor like an aetherial being because they can't commit to neither Sea nor Heavenly figure, and knowing the demacian aesthetics make sense Being devine and transcending mortality is not equivalent to revoking your protection, again kayle is aspiring to ascend and what better way is there than to be prepared, she still NEEDS to WORK to transcend, if anything the more she works the more she has to struggle until she achieves her goal Most people already theorize that her and morgana are subversions of either the Valkyrie (warrior women who guide the dead) and Hel (a woman representing death but is peaceful) and even Morgana's name is that of a woman from european myth, the connections are there and if anything leaning into them just fits I think you just don't realize that kayle is brutish in terms of executing (ehe) the law compared to her sister and the story should reflect that because we have nothing else aside from tiny bits and pieces of dialouge to put that together, the fiddlesticks rework does it best because he looks and act like a puppet, his lines express his inability to think and mimics things, its basically storytelling without having to exposite anything
In the new Malzahar story the protagonist sees upside down buildings and shit in the Void after he got swallowed so maybe what Kassadin is wearing are some remnants from a civilization that the Void destroyed.
hard disagree with gwen. we already have doll looking orianna, gwen is supposed to be isolde's fantasy of what her doll is, with all the childlike wonder and perfection that would bring. fantasy within fantasy, which is why gwen is one of my favorites.
I have no idea how any of the things he said about Kayle, which tbh I mostly agreed with, put her in TOP 5 WORST DESIGNS OF THE ENTIRE GAME. Like, I get how much it can detract, but we're dealing with the top of the worst what the hell.
I don't know if the lore changed, but what bothered me so much about Kai'sa is that in the original lore, Kassadin LOOKED into the void ONCE and became that monstrosity. Kai'sa LIVED THERE for her formative years and is just...fine thanks to this random parasite
Kai'sa gets sexy latex power armor. Kassadin becomes Darth Vader
Allegedly the suit, symbiote thing keeps her protected from the void sickness thing
@@carlfromaccounting1112 the void is sexist confirmed
@@carlfromaccounting1112 I think that can be considered her trying to look less like a monster, since Everytime she tries to save somebody from the void they end up running away screaming thinking she's one of the monsters
For years I thought Kaisa was a super hero/ power ranger when I first started playing the game, I didn't even think she was connected to the void
that was kind of the point, riot wanted to make a samus aran champion, a badass woman in a suit surviving alone in another planet (the void in this case) but instead of using the power armors for inspiration they went with the zero suit samus rute xD they only kept the shoulder pads and the helmet, but then she TAKES OFF THE HELMET, at least there is a toggle but come on

Yi basically looks like a fucking Action figure.
Her design in LoR is so much better
Let me remind you the game you are calling cheap is doing much better at balance and toxicity

I imagine she's gonna appear on the "missed potential" list too. I disagree with Annie being "Master Yi but worse".
Master Yi's problem is that his iconic features are profoundly stupid : "the 7 lenses goggles" and "swords on EVERY DAMNED PIECE OF CLOTHING"
Annie iconic features are "redhead child with fire", "looks like she's came out of elementary school 2 mins ago" and "TIBBERS"
The second one can be changed.
That or nothing, works too
Oh yeah forgot that she commit homer-cide (homicide)
[insert comedic laugh]
I thought her headband were devil horns
Tibbers is one of the 10 demons, the devil of impotence (?) Thats why she k*lled her family unwillingly. So I actually like Annie’s story
@@BalinAila 1 : This comment was made before she was released on LoR and got a lore update. Tibbers was just some unknown local demon that took vessel in the stuffed toy Annie's mom was making for her while pregnant
2 : I brought up her backstory to talk about how her design could be changed.
When I started playing LoL in 2011, I thought Kassadin was the best hero design they had :( Very reminiscent of something from Warhammer 40k.

The Protoss in general have psychic armblades, but I think I'm right in saying that only the Dark Templar have the ability to teleport short distances and have a more assassin-like playstyle than normal Templar, so that's almost certainly where Kassadin came from - perhaps with a bit of Anti-Mage mixed in?
not only the female characters.
For me Kai'Sa also fits perfectly into the "wasted potential"
The concept of a void symbiosis with a human is dope, and could've been approached very nicely of leaning more into the monstrous side and less into Scarlett Johansson
His breathing apparatus looks like Ridley Scott or H.R. Giger could have sculpted it.
Love that he puts gwen the same as genshin impact characters. It's so fitting lol, fcking attractive anime figure for horny sex appeal with no depth is all I can see for both genshin and gwen
There is definitely a lot of anti mage mixed in, both design and gameplay wise
I love that you had a mental breakdown when trying to argument why Kai'sa is so bad. I look forward for part 2 and 3

Dunno. I guess it's a personal opinion here, but Kayle is much better than Furia.
@@antongrigoryev6381 they are pretty similar, (And tbh Furia was so much better designwise when she was just thunder thighs)
I think they said after the Volibear update, that they don't think updates to other champions are really neccessary

Apparently, the Ruination makes everyone sexier, look at Miss Fortune, Shyvana, Karma and Draven...
She is as obbssive with Isolde as viego only defrecnce is that she isn't trying to destroy the world to bring her back ( although she is willing to keep her fragments away from him even though he would stop everything if he got her back and keeping her away from him and locking him away DOSENT solve any problems but is delayeing it and let IT snow ball all the way down ) and that no one is calling her out on that
I was fine with her design at first because I thought she was going to be a beacon of hope for the shadow isels characters that she is going to bring the good and humanity left in yorick, maokai, and maybe even viego I would have loved if they had a Thanos and gamora type of relationship and I would have loved if it turned out that yorick or maokai were the ones who taught her about the hallowed mist that way she can have more conictions to the shadow isels but THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN , her dynamic with viego is so genaric with no coplixity WHATSOEVER and she doesn't intercat with yorick until the very end and we all know how that turned out , and doesn't know about maokai at all
She is such a wasted character both design wise and Lore wise
@@miss.mirana4061 yeah, they totally forgot that The Maiden is permanently torturing yorick, trying to push him towards becoming part with the mist
I think kassadin armor got corrupted by the void or something, unless someone from shurima was edgy and made his armor black with purple
in his lore, kassadin was a merchant of artifacts, every single part of his armor is soposed to be from random ruins, the design of every single part should be distinct from one another but the in game/splash art design looks like it is a propper suit with some parts missing instead of random relics picked form random places put together on a wim
That's how it is. The voids influence has also changed the armor, in fact the horns Kassadin has are part of his mutation.
The color is absolutely not the only problem.
As an old Kai'sa main, I gotta admit
Wtf why is Kai'Sa so sexy if she was in the void fighting for her live!?
It would have been better if they changed Annie's clothes to fit her looks on her animation. And make her more mourning for her loss of step sister, mother and father. Instead of just saying nursery rhymes that ends with something burning.
Yeah, I watched her cinematic, she's a child-tragedy character, SO WHYY WOULD SHE WEAR CAT EARSSS?!
@@markopusic8258 I think that adds to the character though, speaking about the Runeterra design of course

I dont think Kayles design is amazing but her letting go of her armor, the heavy shell being a symbol of servitute and mortality, I think that is a really well integrated aspect (get it...? aspect?....nvm)
Tl:dr Kayle loosing armor while becoming stronger makes more sense than gaining armor (in my eyes)
Hell taric is the protector and he doesn't wear armor or have a shield.
ok but then she should also become more divine and less human-looking. Her final form shouldn't be waifu mode
@@throstlewanion I see your point and while a otherworldy godlike being (smth in the biblically accurate angel direction or so) would be interested a lot of gods are depicted as idealized humans in a regard so it atleast makes sense that she is pretty in my eyes
Horrifying weird alien angel would be hella cool tho!! (might lose the contrast between beautifull outside horrifying inside but eh worth it)
But by that token becoming armour instead of flesh and blood creature also fits the lore too she would also have to lose the sword...

okay i mostly agree but the only thing i have a problem with is saying gwen is worse than seraphine
I'm surprised that sera wasn't even on the list since she is, to me, THE worst champion design in lol ever. Even kai'sa is better designed than her.
Look, deep lore, but kassadins ' gas mask, is a gas mask from zaun.
honestly I like to think of Kayle taking her helmet off as being like, she's stronger and closer to being a god/aspect that she no longer needs the helmet.
"Gwen is immume" is one the worst gameplay mechanics/design in the game

One thing that always get brought up when people talk about character design is over sexualization. In my opinion over sexualization is fine if it fits the character like with Xayah, Samira or Eve but is bad when it's forced like with Kaisa or leblanc.
Kai'sa's design out of context is pretty good, it looks cool and it's very alien. In context and based on what we know about the void, it's just skin-tight symbiote armour that looks sexy. There's nothing wrong with sex appeal, but considering the environment that Kai'sa is in you'd think she'd be more prepared than just sexy symbiote armour.
annie has a really nice re-design in that animation short they did, i wonder whats taking them so long to implement that ingame
It just looks dumb.
the thing i have a grudge with the most are the spikes pointing IN
she legit cannot bend down or else she stabs herself
@@bigvidboi4909 yeah, hence why I said Kayle's updated design doesn't look reasonable, the new armor they gave her isn't even practical.
Honestly, they could have kept the armor and when she levels up she loses it but replaces it with holy fire or something like that.
Make Cho’gath an Ultralisk now. Blizzard doesn’t deserve any good designs anymore.
Make Kai'Sa look more like Kerrigan as well, she is already part way there.
about kyle: i find the idea of a character removing armour as they get stronger so fucking fascinating, like the stronger they become the more confident they become the more they think they are bound to win. take thanos he starts the movie with armour but once he has 2 infinity stones he teuly becomes unstoppable so he removes the armour at that point its just going to weigh him down. same with kyle ahe gets her strength from magic not armour and weapons sure it helps but it makes sense she would remove some once her real magic atarts to kick in.

In the ruined king game it was confirmed that the iceborn dont feel the cold at all.
Son Wukong kinda makes sense for Smite tho
7:30 I’m ashamed at how hard I laughed at that.
Zyra: The wrath of the Forrest yassified
tbh i listen to your opinions on league characters because sometimes you hit the nail on the head so hard that the nail goes through the wood, but sometimes you also miss the mark really hard and i like to compare your thoughts with mine to see what i could be wrong about and if we share similar thoughts

You are kinda outdated mate
While I don't like Gwen's design, I can see where the creators came from:keep in mind that she was Isolde's doll that came to life. She isn't a living person, in order to be dark/gothic type of "doll", she is the creation of Isolde, and she was a kind and happy person(and also a seamstress).
But she came to life from the mist. Yes, the mist that makes people see their worst nightmares personified created a cute girl.
Kassadin got a breathing apparatus from piltover
I do agree that the amount could be cut down on a lot, but as designs themselves, a lot of people treat every single one like they're bad, when really only a handful of the designs actually are
this video has made me excited for future ASUs
I actually started a drawing of Kai'sa in my own take cuz I also don't like the direction that they took her lol. Why is she so perfect in the void while her dad is actually getting affected by it I don't get it
The Void is just biased towards women ig 💀
Fun fact, an old version of Amumu's splash art used to imply with very little vagueness that Amumu was meant to be a mummy child, with two parent figures made out of magic besides the little bandage Amumu. It then got changed cause I assume *dead child* is too dark for Riot (despite Annie being a self-made orphan)
Here is the thing about ashe tho: she is not a queen , she is a warmother , she doesn't have to look like royalty , because she isn't , she is a tribe leader. Also iceborn ARE immune to cold.
So that's why she is dress like a stripper in a mini dress and heels
I remember someone did do a Amumu mock up rework where he looked like a yordle and he looked so cool in it.

The entire top half of Master Yi's body screams scifi and yeah that could be changed, but I actually like the extra sword in his boot, that's why he has the double auto thing
I think I will have to disagree with Kayle.
@@OmenLamb concept: Greek Gods and Gods in general, alot of their art is them but ass naked but each time in their myths they get armour and weapons that protects them and more-so for devine people aspiring to BECOME Gods, this is why Perseus Pantheon is one of the favourites skins of my peers, he looks more Godly and Greek and such but still keeps to character
Being devine doesnt mean you go and become a waifu because she becomes less humane but they insist on giving her more sexualised physique for a woman who's job is being brutal justice, if anything mroe armour fits her because more armour exemplifies the brutality and rigidness of law (Ahem knights and gaurds)
Rant over, have a nice day, in the end RITO has the final say and every design can work if executed well
@@magniwalterbutnotwaltermag1479 Well they executed Kayle pretty well.
@@OmenLamb the concept of brutality is not just the brutish might makes right, there is a reasonnwhy i also brought up rigidness as kayle represent an executioner more akin to the ideals of Noxis as others like TBskyen points out as a subversionnof most demacian ideals, she is described almost like the Wolf kindred, an avenger
Mortality also does nothing for excusing wearing less armour, Janna is another of these as her attire makes her seem neither like a Goddess worshipped by the downtrodden nor like an aetherial being because they can't commit to neither Sea nor Heavenly figure, and knowing the demacian aesthetics make sense
Being devine and transcending mortality is not equivalent to revoking your protection, again kayle is aspiring to ascend and what better way is there than to be prepared, she still NEEDS to WORK to transcend, if anything the more she works the more she has to struggle until she achieves her goal
Most people already theorize that her and morgana are subversions of either the Valkyrie (warrior women who guide the dead) and Hel (a woman representing death but is peaceful) and even Morgana's name is that of a woman from european myth, the connections are there and if anything leaning into them just fits
I think you just don't realize that kayle is brutish in terms of executing (ehe) the law compared to her sister and the story should reflect that because we have nothing else aside from tiny bits and pieces of dialouge to put that together, the fiddlesticks rework does it best because he looks and act like a puppet, his lines express his inability to think and mimics things, its basically storytelling without having to exposite anything
I thought seraphine was gonna be on this list lol
In the new Malzahar story the protagonist sees upside down buildings and shit in the Void after he got swallowed so maybe what Kassadin is wearing are some remnants from a civilization that the Void destroyed.
hard disagree with gwen. we already have doll looking orianna, gwen is supposed to be isolde's fantasy of what her doll is, with all the childlike wonder and perfection that would bring. fantasy within fantasy, which is why gwen is one of my favorites.
