Anyone else notice how superb the audio mix is on this video? You can clearly understand the presenter even with other guys working. And the music track helps the viewer remain focused without becoming distracted from other shop noise. A really professional job editing.
El Chapo JP is his Instagram
Wow, what a crazy notion, that a UA-cam video would have good audio. Should be common sense at this point, don't celebrate the fact. It's called a "lapel mic". Comes in handy for making videos for shit tube
@john flemming anyone can use a lapel mic , but not all of them can mix background audios , mic and background music at a perfect level so viewers dont lose focus from video content. understand the statement before being an ass
I gave up after the second interruption.
A good compressor levels everything out. Good observation. Some of these UA-cam vids need a lil engineering badly haha A “lapel mic” has nothing to do with mixing lol
"...but if you're a detailer, you're not a normal person!"
From one little league pro to a big league pro, truer words have never been spoken.
This is the best introduction video on polishing on the internet period
Ive never left a youtube comment before ever, however this video has definitely inspired me to do so. The thought, effort, time and clarity of this video is great. You really help someone who has never done this before understand and grasp the basic concepts. Great job, keep these videos coming!
Keyan Jordan cheers! Glad it helped.
Literally have been doing a lot of research on UA-cam about all this detailing trying to fill the time and learning before I commit to flying out to some kind of detailing class... and you're amazing. You literally teach in a way that my brain can handle. I appreciate that. Thank you!
The more information and knowledge the better the result
As someone who is continually trying to refine my paint correction and polishing skills, I'm always looking for information on the subject and this is the most informative video I've found. Thank you.
This is going to be a classic to share many times. So much was covered that it will require multiple views to pick up all the key points. I really like how you initially covered all the core basics. A 5-star is well earned.
My dad was an autobody man for 50+ years. When a car he repaired at his home shop left it shined like it just left the showroom. He had one long buffer, large fluffy wool pads, a gallon of buffing compound and a jug of Mirror Glaze, that's it.
thousand dollars information right here folks!

Thanks a ton buddy ...you just saved me $38 of a detailing tutorial.... I've also been doing this as a DIYer for some time and in just 40 minutes you addressed all the problems I had....This is by far the best channel I've come across on UA-cam...Bless you man 💪💪
Great in depth tutorial ! Thank you.
This one is lengthy... sorry in advance
Huge fan of you guys. I am almost done watching every episode of the VLOG’s. I love the detailers secrets videos. Could Jason do more on how to pick the correct pads and compound/polish combinations. And another one on how to do paint touch ups on rock chips or scratches. I’m currently about to spend a few thousand on getting everything I need to start my own detailing business. And this information would be insanely helpful. I’m super excited about it. I have always been a OCD person and a clean freak when it comes to vehicles. I have been told repeatedly that no one around my area can clean up a car as well as I do. For example I just did a small detail and wax on a neighbors truck and within 12 hours I had 6 people wanting me to do theirs. So I figured it was time to go to the next level and jump into paint correction and full interior detailing instead of just you typical wash and vacuum. I always go the extra mile. I always seem to catch even the smallest of defects. And when I clean I try to hit every little detail. One thing I always tell people is that all those small details I hit that no one else takes the time to hit makes the whole vehicle just pop and look a thousand times better. So all that said I have searched many places and sites looking for the most informative and detailed oriented person or shops. When I came across Chicago Auto Pros I could not stop watching. Jason and his great team, to me, are the best in the business. His VLOG’s are jam packed with awesome information and details about how to detail, what products are great and those that aren’t. They are great at explaining processes and I can’t get enough. I have been told so many times that I can get a vehicle cleaner than when it comes off the lot. And that is with just basic supplies and make shift ideas to get the job done. So why not try to go further. I’m about to use my tax return to purchase my Rupes buffers, shop vac, pressure washer, etc. So please keep the VLOG’s coming. Would love to see another Detailers secret to touch up paint done right and how to determine the right combination of pads and compounds/polishers. Thank you
Rotary polishing for over 50 years! takes a toll on the Human Body for sure. Great Videos!! Thanks!
Hi can u use buffer to Smooth out paint with McGuire compound
@@georgearnold7371 You sure could. Watch on You tube. Learn to use a Rotary polisher on a car that is not too expensive. I Like McGuires compounds. Polish at about 1200 Rpms to start.
@@benleone5800 ok can I use da to smoothcsone paint lumps out scared burn paint with a rotary *(rookie) trying to flatten out paint. Can I email u pic
I have watched a ton of videos on UA-cam over the past week. This is by far, the best video explaining polishing. I'm about to try this for the first time on my black Camaro SS. Thank you!!
How did it turn out?
Great video ,shows the level of detail and time it takes to perfect the paint
This reminds me of my medical school training. Old school mentorship by a journyman. I hope this type of teaching continues, but its mostly been eradicated by the beancounter domination over all larger corporate and institutional settings. That's what happened to Boeing, and most hospitals sadly. Good to see that it still exists in the smaller private settings. This is the only way to teach, create a culture of excellence and instill pride and dedication to craft throughout a workplace.
Great explanation on a professional paint correction. We learned a few things that will help. Thx
I love you guys! Thank you for all informations . I watching your videos every time from here in Romania.
Your a pro amongst pro’s. Great video. I just got a black 2016 f150 limited. I’m intimidated by the black but after watching this I’m confident I can do it. So thanks for that and all this vital info, keep up the awesome vids!
As a beginner, which one of these machines do you prefer, DA or rotary machine ?
Now I'm more confident with my DA to compound my newly painted bumper sill and not be too aggressive. I did my own body work and rattle can base coat and clear coat. All done outdoors under my carport on my car, which is Platinum Graphite Metallic dark gray. The sill looks great now but I know a light wet sanding and light compound will make it look better. Your video really helps. I did my rear quarter panel last fall and it just does not look glossy. After watching you I now realize I can do a little more easily and make it shine.
Thanks for great videos on UA-cam. I'm a subscriber to your channel. Also born near Chicago at Great Lakes Naval hospital. Live in Sealy Texas now. So I have to be careful with weather and wind working outdoors on my car under a carport.
Now I feel more confident in doing my own paint correction with the limitation of not having a designating garage to do it. Thank you and God bless.
Jason, so glad i found this video. Haven't watched CAPs in a while. But you covered so much ground and did it so well...much appreciated. I do wish you would do (you may have and I haven't searched yet) some videos on single stage paint v. modern/clear coat paint. You've got me back as a regular and i can't wait to see what you posted since i followed you more regularly. Just awesome. Many thanks.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I’m giving this guy 5 stars for explaining everything a beginner like myself needs to know! Very informative and simple to follow instructions....👍🏼 😆
Superb full lecture. Will watch all your videos. I just opened a carwash and I am just about to start the detailing section in Abuja Nigeria
COPY THIS: This is going to be a classic to share many times. So much was covered that it will require multiple views to pick up all the key points. I really like how you initially covered all the core basics. A 5-STAR is well earned. ... ;)
I'm a little late to the party. Thank you for this valuable information. I just work on my cars. They are all from different decades and finishes. I have so much to learn. Thanks again
Thank you so much Jason. You’re a blessing to this industry. LEGEND! More blessings to come bro!
One of the best videos Ive seen so far. I learned a lot. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching!
I appreciate videos and cats like yourself. Your love and attention to detail are above and beyond. One can truly see your love and passion for what you're doing.
Watching you clean pads hits me right in the face, literally the first time I tried. Thought I was the only one. Having a vacuum with a "big mouth" is something I am gonna try next detail.
You are an excellent teacher. Very common sense approach. You are definitely one of the best. Thank you and God Bless.
Wow, thank you!
Great information, I've been dealing cars for years and this was an awsome refresher video. You will forget more than you know
Especially when you do not do it for a living.
Thanks for explaining about the heat on the panels, I was worried about that, thanks bro
No problem 👍
Wow, unreal. This is the absolute pinnacle of the proper steps to cut, finish and polish, I can’t wait to do my truck now! Thanks so much! this video will be shared with everyone I know looking for info on how to do this correctly.
I continue to learn and can't wait for Romeoville to open- I love to learn about my Hobby
If I had the option I would go for graphene has it is less slippery, therefore minimising scratches from animals, always found that once I place an hydrophobic protection the cats will slide scratching the paint, no slide no scratches. Excellent job and very good detail.
I’ve been polishing for almost 2 years since I retired from my regular job. You do a great job explaining a lot about the processes.👍
My hero! Im working with polishing for about 6 months, and everything you said is precise. I learned a lot when started experimenting more.
this has been by far the most informative video I've seen on this, simple, to the point and not overly complicated
rotary buffer, wool pad meguiars 100, meguiars 205 soft foam. been painting custom cars for 15 years. ive sanded a few late model cars over the years, you can get out a lot of deep scratches with 2000 grit with taking a tiny bit of clear off(like a few microns)
By far the most informative no bull s*** video on paint correction, thank you for making it and sharing with us!
Wool pads are far from obsolete, I've been using them on long throw DA polishers since 2007. A microfibre pad on a large orbit DA can be more aggressive than a wool pad. There are new wools coming from here in Australia soon that are a reduced denier size and will finish LSP ready on lighter colours and a few rich colours. Wool is not just a cutting pad it can be used for lighter duties and is far nicer and more versatile than microfibre.
I use 100% wool on my rotary before using a foam DA. Time saver.
Excellent job on the video and audio, very clear. This was the best video i seen. Amazing info. God bless.
Great video I am a beginner picked up a DA Torq22d for my personal use on my vehicles so far all I’ve done is watch a bunch of videos yours being one of the best my question is what is the difference between a short throw and a long throw DA thank you
Love the videos. To me it shows a lot about a person that is willing to give out all the info you do for free to help people
Absolutely phenomenal information on paint correction! And I've been doing this for a long long time... The only thing I do different is slower passes. Thank you!!!!
Jason, great video! Attention to detail is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the step by step. And the thorough attention to detail.
I was about to start paint correcting for the first time on my golf R so this video was the perfect find! Only 20min from you guys too!
Nice video, excellent information - in the future could you use a dark color car to show the before and after. White is very hard to see the before and after when showing swirl marks.
It's what we had, and also part of the GTI transformation series.
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU ARE A GOOD TEACHER FOR ALL TYPES OF STUDENTS YOU ARE DOING REALLY GOOD AND NICE JOB GOD BLESS YOU BECAUSE I LEARNED LOT OF TIPS AND TRICKS GOD BLESS YOU ♥️🤲
New and trying to learn. I just bought a kit that attaches to my drill on Amazon. After watching this video, serious question. Should I throw it in the garbage?
yes
Yup!
Great video! Amazing. But links to finishing and polishing pads not working. Please could you list the pad reference, or update the link? Thanks!
I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video your opinion is very genuine. I don’t feel like your trying to sell me anything.
I own a Golf mk7.5, which has the same body as the GTI. Feel really satisfied when the car has been compounded and polished.
Very good job with great info. Pointer: always put the wheel up on a bench or somewhere where you're not working on the ground bending over and/or on your knees. Save your back, knees, neck, etc. When you're comfortable you can do a better job for a longer period of life.
I think I'm ready for my first ever detail, this videos is the best I've seen to-date.
Just got a 1980 c30 that just needs a shine gonna try this tomorrow, the coumpound i have right now is to coarse so gotta get new stuff
I've watched countless videos on this exact topic and yours is the most thorough and well thought out yet. Also, one of the few that didn't bash the more expensive polisher while still informing folks that the cheap alternatives work too. Thank you very much
Very informative video. I'm new to paint correction and I appreciate all the time you spent explaining the art and the detail you went into.
You are welcome, thanks for taking the time to leave some kind words.
Such a helpful video. Thank u so much for this video. Love from India 🇮🇳
Awesome video! You are teaching in a calm, thorough, and thoughtful way. This lesson helped me a lot. I'm just a hobby detailer and really enjoy doing it. I have three vehicles to detail. One is red German SUV, one is a silver German luxury car, and the last is a dark grey Japanese pick up. The German cars do have hard paint and the Japanese is more soft. I usually spend around ten hours per vehicle to detail. I mostly use Chemical Guys and Meguiars products because they seem to work great. Keep on making these videos.
Excellent crash course , thank you for your time.
From a 25 year vet in this industry..great video and information!!!🔥💪🏽😎You'll be surprised how many guys that do not know this.
Hi would u recommend buffer to smooth out paint lumps from touch up job. Could I email u pics
@@georgearnold7371 that would require wet sanding and leveling.
Thanks...it was very informative and educational, from a beginner's standpoint as well as a refresher's course for those that have been doing it a while.
Great job well explained simple and progressive process thx for sharing..🇬🇧
Awesome video brother detailed enough and dispelled a few myths thanks again
Going to try my hand at this for the first time today !
Great video! How can you tell if a car has hard/soft paint?
Thank you!
I am glad we have people who now bring up vibration when talking about polishing for hours on end. I am young but have arthritis & got rid of my forced-gear flex for this exact reason. I run a much smoother machine that brings better finishing results 🤷♂️
What do you think about using distilled water to cool down the panel during the polishing process? I've been doing it for years and two of my local detailers are doing it too. I know that the compound is a little diluted, but it gives you a cooler surface to work with.
great job on trying to capture the scratches... superb video quality!
Great information thank you .
Just got to ask . Why do German cars look so good in white .
I have 2006/7 Touareg in Black .
144000 miles on the clock .
Had it a year before we moved to a house where I could look after it properly .
Did a full decon .
Also full paint correction too .
It might be nearly 15 years old . But it looks stunning when it's clean .
Got to say great channel .
You advise products but you aren't tied to pushing one brand .
Totally unbiased love it .
You did a great job in this video. Really appreciate the time you put into it. Do you teach classes? Definitely interested.
I'd like to second that! I would be happy to use some vacation days!
I love meguiar's M110 & M210 with microfiber pads!
Absolutely amazing instructional video, I watched this as a guide before polishing and ceramic coating my car. Terrific!!!
Great video, great tip with the PPF / film tool and towel to wipe residue also.
Brilliant, easy to understand simple instructions, many thanks Sir.
You the Man!!!
Wow bro, thank you. I was asking questions to myself while watching this video then you would answer them. Thank you. Keep up the good work!
Terrific post.
I like the emphasis on what is in the budget and what the customer wants.
It’s not all about what you want to do or can do.
Nice to know I do pretty much as you do.
I use Zvizzer compounds, polishes and pads. And SB3 for all coatings.
Super resourceful video! Thanks for all the knowledge
Simple and direct. I learn a lot. Many thanks and keep doing this great job. I'm another new subscriber to your channel.
We need to give this man an award
Great video! Loaded with tons of information. I've been wanting to polish my car for years, but I'm afraid that I'll destroy it. I'd have liked if you would have used a black car to show more detail of what's going on and what to look for.
I am learning and this is the only video i need. Thank you so much
How do you get severe water spots out of black paint? Its an 08 Ford Ranger. A clay bar with an iron remover spray helped but they are still there. The truck was in Seoul South Korea for 5 years but my partner said they started here in Washington state. I only mention South Korea because of the pollution that could have contributed to the severity of the spotting.
I keep running to issues when I get most of the scratches out but there is always a slight haze and a few pigtail marks. How do I fix this?
sounds like you need to spend more time on your polishing step with the haze and the pigtail marks most likely came from something hard stuck in your pad like a small rock or something. make sure you have a completely clean pad and surface when ur cutting and polishing. also u can make the pigtails go away with the cutting pad and cutting compound, go over them til they go away. and u get to the polishing step try and keep ur machine flat with the surface ur polishing, dont tilt it
Love the information . A Jeep Wrangler has factory stickers. For example Rubicon on the hood. How do you go about doing paint correction and polishing on or near these? I assume you can't polish over top? Maybe not even even apply ceramic over top? Next question will new vinyl emblems stick to a ceramic coated vehicle? This jeep will be having a plastic rock chip protector with adhesive backing applied to the Rocker panel below the doors. Will it adhere fine? Thanks in advance
Excellent tutorial 👌🏼
Bravo 👏👏 Thank you !!!
Thanks a lot this video really helped as a beginner, I had to subscribe 💪🏾
One of the best videos guys. You really learn me some new things. Thanks for sharing all these info with us.....
That was a great tutorial on correcting paint. Easy to understand and great information. I learned a few new tips that were very helpful. I really like the tip about doing a post polishing inspection and then marking areas you want to go back to with a little piece of masking tape. That's a great idea. I'll definitely be using that one in the future.
Me too, 3 pads typically,... Wool on a Makita rotory, orange foam cutting pad, usually on a Flex forced rotation, and black finishing pad on a Hi-Buff orbital
Very informative and enjoyed you sharing your knowledge and expertise. I'm just getting into this as a weekend warrior but ready to do my first correction on my 2007 black HHR.
Awesome, well I hope this helps.
Thank you for this video!!! You have no idea how much you just helped me.
Great Video !! One way that I try to prevent burning paint is by comparing one section of the paint with another . I look for the orange peel that is normal on the car. When orange peel gets flat or with out waves then I you know there is not much left and that polishing should stop. Play with the light and your angle of vision to see clear waves correctly.
Great video. I never stop learning. How do you know if a vehicle has soft or hard paint?
If you can correct the paint with a light polish and a finishing pad, it's probably soft. If it resists correction with a heavy cut set up, it's probably hard.
I was wondering the same thing. Without having to polish the car first can you tell if a car has soft paint by the make and year of car?
Jason, You mentioned that different manufacturers have different hardness of paint and clear coats, so do you have a list or guide for hard to soft paint/clear coat? I just inherited a 1997 Ford that is in great shape and it would be great to know whether the clear coat is soft or hard. A link to something you have or someone else's list would be great. Thanks for explaining the process so well!!
Very informative and organized and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
God bless this man😂, saved me time and legit told everything i needed to know.
