I owned a Casita for 12 years and bought it because we live on the Gulf Coast and I needed something I could stay on the beach with for extended times and needed a waterproof, salt water proof RV. One the factory tour we found out they also make offices for offshore oil platforms because the entire thing is completely sealed even on the bottom, its two bathtubs glued to each other like a clam shell. It is hands down the most durable RV I have ever owned and we now have a Forest River Toy hauler and its total garbage compared. In 12 years, all I ever had to do on the Casita was reseal the vent on the roof. @kismetmassey1105 That's a valid concern. It is true that it would be much easier to hop up into the driver seat of a van. Playing devil's advocate. The casita is a well done design and will last an owner their lifetime. Most corporate made RV or travel trailers are designed to leak with micro thin sun degrading rubber roofs and will self destruct within 3-7 years. This awesome person has upgraded her camper and it is fantastic.!
My mom was a traveling hospice nurse and lived in a 2015 Casita for many years - all over Northern California .. they are so well built! Thanks for sharing!
What a delightful woman! Very well spoken, and has terrific upgrade ideas. And apparently very handy! Love the go do it attitude for the outdoors. Great video as always, so fun and positive vibes. How much love to you and your family as always.
I'm glad you appreciated the video. You probably noticed it was all one take. She was so articulate. And she did such a good job of speaking our language, and making everything simple. Having a UA-cam channel, I know if somebody put the camera on me like that I wouldn't be able to do that. Something about that camera makes me nervous. Our family is having a great holiday. It's been the first time where it feels like we actually have a home in years. It's really special. Hope you and your family are having a great holiday season as well.
Had a 16' Casita. BEST camper ever. Towed like a dream! Had A/C unit in front under closet which worked great. Didn't blow right on you while sleeping and cheap to replace. Propane generator ran the whole rig off grid. Those seats were so comfortable. Had a battery powered drill for leveling. Used reflexive windshield covers for all windows for heat and cool. Worked amazing. Suggestion, Install better shower head than factory. Illness forced us to give up camping😢. Enjoy while you can❤
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. And I'm really sorry to hear about the illness. Those are great words of advice to enjoy things like this while we can.
nice campers... and the little doggie camper is so cute... he has his own space. Her Casita is really nice. I could live in that, I think... thanks for sharing with us.
Her message of don't wait, just do it is the principal of why we got our Bend Teardrop this year at the end of March. we have the 6x12 and we love it, we need to get a better heating/cooling solution but so far its great.
Love hearing that resonated with you! And also love hearing you picked up a Bend teardrop. That's my style. I love what those guys are doing out in Oregon. As for heating, we are huge fans of electric blankets. The new blanket by jartoo also has very low if no EMFs. So much healthier than a traditional electric blanket. If EMFs are concern. And it also feels really good on your body because it doesn't have the traditional coils. Feels like a regular blanket. We are also experimenting this winter with diesel heaters. Very efficient, very affordable. I'll try to make a video after I come to a conclusion if I think it's a great route for most of us.
As for cooling, if you are in dry climates, I think a small swamp cooler is probably the best route. If you're in moist climates, I haven't figured out a good cooling solution that doesn't require shore power. But I do know someone who's working on it. I hope this invention comes out sooner than later.
Among the very best PWS videos! Love her spirit, ingenuity, self-reliance and sensibility. Have long been intrigued by Casitas and this video compels me to research them. I had a teardrop for several years (Little Guy 6-wide, pulled by a Honda Element), camping in it 57 nights the first year -- mostly weekends -- and then usage tapered off, the storage facility manager made an offer and I sold it to him. In this past year I bought a new Toyota Tundra and put a canopy and rooftop tent on it, took that setup on a 9,000-mile cross-country trip and it is great for summer and temps above 45-degrees. But I think another small trailer -- teardrop or compact standie -- is in my future and this Casita is really appealing. Thanks much for this video tour and interview with a knowledgeable and impressive owner.
@@SamoyedMoms Fantastic! You could easily pull a Casita with the Tundra. I also had a Little Guy, but the five wide platform. The towing transition from the Little Guy to Casita was minimal. AND, backing the Casita is so much easier! There are so many used Casita's on the Market now (at least here in the SW), that you may be able to find a newer, gently used one for a much better price than factory new. I have never, ever regretted buying my Casita, but as Drew pointed out, I'm kind of a camper-aholic!! :) I purchased mine one year before retirement, so had plenty of practice and was totally familiar with it by the time I did get to retire. Best wishes, and happy camping from Jeannie and Obie Dog!
Oh my goodness! Now, I really have camping fever! I loved the porthole window, the extra scissor jacks, the mods around the door, the compartment at the front of the trailer, probably more if I could remember! I’m going to watch it again and write it down! Great job, Drew! 🩷
Yeah, there was something about this video that got me really excited as well. I had my camper out yesterday and I think part of it was just being inspired by Jeannie. I love how she did the mods in a way that they all looked factory. That's one of my goals going forward with my new trailer. I'm going to do some really quick mods that are temporary for DIY budget videos. But for my long-term solution, I'd like my mods to look factory.
Jeannie is an inspiration and definitely dedicated to taking Obie camping whenever the urge arises. She is fearless and talented with the modifications.
Great video. And you’re a great interviewer. You let the lady do most of the talking and you asked excellent questions. I really enjoyed this. Thanks 👍🏻🇨🇦
When we had the luxury of space it was so nice being able to choose between the two campers. Our vintage trailer, we often took it out just to do picnic lunches along the ocean. Then that same afternoon we'd load up in the teardrop and go out for an adventure.
Just go do it. That’s great advise. Because of this channel we bought our little biker and it has allowed us to extend our outdoor season and get out to enjoy things we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford with the massive increases in hotel rates.
She did a great job making it her own. Great ideas I'll bet others will utilize now. She seems very down to earth and not afraid to DYI. Awesome! Thank you both for the excellent not dragged out tour. Perfect!
My husband and I are planning on buying a casita with bunks in the near future! We have 7 and 9 year old girls. We’ve done a lot of research and have settled on the Casita. Small but they last a long time. We don’t want to buy a piece of junk.
You have my stamp of approval on that decision. You've probably seen it hidden throughout our narrative on this channel. We are big fans of fiberglass trailers. And when it comes to stand-up trailers, the Casita and scamps to me are second to none in terms of quality to price ratio.
Really, the idea is that you're just going to sleep in it, make meals, and get cleaned up. ....it'll get a little uncomfortable if you have to stay in it a couple of days due to rain, but the idea is that you're going to be outside mostly.
What a nice compliment Drew! Thank you. I just lucked out because I think the day you filmed it was the day we had the camper tours at the fiberglass gathering 🙂. I was all cleaned up and ready for company! 😁 @@PlayingwithSticks
A kindred spirit for sure! I love that she has 3 campers including one for the dog!💜 Really clever mods and love her sense of adventure and ingenuity 🙌🏻👊🏻
We have a 2011 17ft Sprit Deluxe Casita that we have had for 7.5 years. We just got back from a trip to AZ from the greater Seattle Washington area. We live out of it and love it! I took the door off of bathroom and put up a curtain that doesn't get in the way.
Beautiful little Casita. All of the owners enhancements were so well thought out. EXCEPTIONAL filming of your Casita & the slowmo shots of your sweet dog was just PERFECT
This lady is blessed with a lot of common sense. I came to that opinion when early on she said I didn't understand why the switch for the outside light is on the outside and the changes she related afterwards confirmed my opinion,
Also own a Casita . Love it ! Biggest problem I had was refrigerator door fell off ! I fixed it myself. But , found out little house customs sells repair hinge supports. 😁
I love the extras that she added. Personalizing is very important. I added multiple interior hooks to mine shortly after purchase as you never have enough. Stabilizing jacks with a drill driver are a must. On our end of season camping trip I noticed stabilizers on my friend's 1975 camper. She never knew they were there. LoL. Much better now! But, we never would have known unless my camper had them, too.
😂 I completely relate on the stabilizers. The first time we took the scamp out we didn't know they were there. And there was this weird metal thing with a spring below and I pulled on it. And it popped out! May and I were like ohhhhhhh. Then it took us another half hour to figure out how to get it back in 😂
I have a 13 foot 1800 lb Patriot Delux with high axle, I have taken it places it shouldn't go, lol. Can't say enough good about Casita, mine is a 2013 and everything is still original and looks and acts new. Mine has full bath too, I took the AC out, didn't need it, the fan pulled the heat out in the desert.
I too run a Dexter torsion axle with a 2" lift on my 5x8 teardrop and I too swear by that set up. That set up has been all over northern BC, Yukon and Northwest Territories. For a full decade now. Oft times very rugged roads handled with aplomb.
You know I will agree with you here. That is the same setup we often run. Love our Dexter Torsion axles. I was a little bummed to be forced into Timbren this round. Not that i don't like them, but I find Dexter's to be much easier to maintain. Very low maintenance axles.
I wish my mom was as cool as this lady. I love the Casita the most 😍💕 (true that I'd want a bathroom with toilet/shower as a young lady, but tbh I prefer them separated to not have a wet toilet). She did a very neat job on the retrofits. I would've liked a tour of the interior of Obi's little camper and where she got that from! How much does a Casita go for?
Very enjoyable seeing her camper and all the improvement ideas. I recently retired this year (Nov. 2024 officially). I bought a small (15') teardrop style camper with a full bath last summer. I have been doing additions and improvements in anticipation of doing a bucket list trip around the US with it in tow behind my pickup next year. Can't wait! ;-)
We have a motor home that we purchased in September and we are having the time of our lives! We had the frosted door window and my huaband complained that he couldn't see thru it while driving. We just replaced it with the same one you have. He bought the window and we replaced it ourselves about 2 weeks ago. I love the look of the dark glass. It matches the rest of the windows now.
Those journeys sound great! The more Texas camping videos I watch, the more I realize it's such a diverse state in terms of geography. So many places to see
My wife and I visited the factory showroom in Texas. They're really cool. ...really like that they're fiberglass with limited places for leaks to develop..also like scamp, which is similar.
We bought a 17 ft. Casita and were not happy with it. The window in the bathroom leaked, even after the company sent us a new one. The new one (hubby installed for free, since we didn't want to pay for the install on a new camper) didn't leak as badly. Then one storm on a campout had rain that blew in sideways through one of the storage doors outside. The entire carpet in the camper was wet when we woke up as well as that storage compartment. The kitchen was almost useless, and the bed was compromised in size because of the curve. The best thing about it was a nice big closet. We sold it after it was paid off for a good price, since they do seem to hold their value.
I’m Bean with envy! I bought my Bean Stalk 5 years ago but only used it a couple times because of caregiving responsibilities for my mother. At least it fits in my garage and stays clean. 🤷🏻♀️
We have a number of members in this community who are in a similar season of life. I can't imagine how hard that would be. There's some UA-camrs I follow. They actually camp inside their teardrop in their garage. Some of us campers are pure nerds. 😂
What a great camper! The upgrades are simple and so functional in a camper that's so cute! I would buy buy both from her if I could! Thank you for quickly showing us the doggy camper too! How cute!
Cortez Campers are fiberglass construction weighing only like 1800lbs. They are all 18 feet long. A beautiful spacious shower with 6 feet of headroom. Check them out. The only thing not fiberglass is the cutting board. I believe they said it's a double hull design. And only 1800lb dryweight.
I stopped by the Casita factory in E. Texas once about 20 years ago and was impressed by the quality of their build. Casitas are great for a single axle unit.
We have a 2018 Liberty Deluxe. I have seen very few stock Casita trailers, they just lend themselves to customization. There is quite the cult following and a very supportive online group of owners.
That's part of the reason I've never shown one on the channel. I was always waiting to find a stock model. But the more I get to know this community the more I realized that is pretty rare. And it's more fun to see what people can do with theirs to me then seeing a bone stock model. I've been really picky, I've seen a lot over the years. But when I met Jeannie, I knew she was the one for this tour.
Well done! She's enterprising, hardware and building-competent, built for camping. Nice comfort things in her design & layout, but I like her sense of what's nice to have vs luxury.
Thanks for the video. I own a 2020 Casita . Thanks for the link on the port hole window. I’ve been thinking about removing the vent . We rarely if ever cook inside anyway. Thanks ! 😁👍
I'm with you. We rarely cooked in the Scamp either. But, when you need it, that indoor cooking is nice to have. And I loved using it for breakfast time. it was nice being able to hide from the elements that first hour of the day. I love how that port window opened up the space. It made the trailer feel so much airier.
I have carried 3 packs of mountain house with us for 5 years now. May gives me a hard time about it every year. But, I say "you never know." The expiration dates are incredible. I can't remember but I think I have like 10 years left haha. I probably will never use them, but some day if I do I will say "SO WORTH IT!" Haha.
@ The mountain house is really good! Been eating them for years bike packing etc ! I keep a supply just in case in the Casita ! Thanks for your comments and your videos. I will look at more of your playlist! 😁
@ralphp3057 like you, we consume them quite often backpacking and biking and on the river. But in the camper we haven't got to the point yet where our food has ran out and we need ed to dig into the backup supply of Mountain House. Yet... These freeze dried meals have come a long way since when I first started using them on the trail.
Since I watched one of your videos years ago and your wife responded to me, I thought about having a trailer because I happen to have and still drive my Toyota Matrix although now I also have a Ford F-150 but I like the idea of having something small because as you demonstrated you don't need as much power to pull it and it's easier to park
It's a nice little camper. I got close to buying a Toy Hauler about 10 years ago. I'm 6'5" so I hit my head on just about every A/C unit ceiling mounted in travel trailers, pop ups and campers. The toy hauler trailers a usually really tall inside. I mainly don't have one, cause I don't have a place to park it. On a fixed income so I can't afford to put it in storage. I thought maybe just get a cargo trailer with 7 foot ceilings and keep it about 14 x 8. That should fit in driveway.
We have looked at the Casitas and the Beans. Casita should make that portal window at the stove an option. This is the second one I have seen someone do.
I just like having all that extra headspace and open feeling when I'm using the kitchen area. I don't use them much, because I cook mostly outside, but when I do it's nice to have a little space. One person in the community said they don't do this because the range hoods are not only for venting, but also for containing kitchen fires. I've never looked into it, but it makes sense.
@ Yes, that makes sense. I didn’t think about that. It could be part of the building regulations/requirements. In Virginia there was a requirement for a hood in restaurants for fires and it had to have a suppression system as well.
It seems overkill, but I get it. Liability is liability. But in reality if there is a fire at stove you are awake and active for it. And the door is right next to you.
Lovely! Yes, now i want to go camping! And I'd like to camp with all y'all! I also upgraded from tenting to a t😢eardrop so i could get out faster on the weekends. This is a lovely casita and well outfitted! Thanks!
Something about this video got me really excited. I've been out in the woods twice since making it. There's something to be said for that speedy exit out into the woods. And a nice place to store all your camping gear. I think that was the big one for me, May and I wanted to get out faster, but the real benefit we found was just having a locker on Wheels to carry all our Camp gear.
That is well said! And I'd had enough of set up and teardown with tenting. I have other stuff to do when I'm in the wood and one of those things might just be laying in a hammock looking at the treetop and birds.
I'm still waiting for that stage of life 😂 The boys have been keeping me pretty busy out there. But I do plan on doing some winter camping this year just to get a little me time in the woods. I'm really looking forward to it. No cameras, no kids. Just Drew and the stars. I say that, but then at the last second the boys will want to join me, and there's no way I can say no. I would love to take them winter camping
This is absolute perfection for a single or couple camping! She did amazing work with her little upgrades! Also I love how she’s terrified to open doors and cabinets but everyone single one is organized and beautiful. She’s awesome!
😂 I had a friend text me who saw the video and said the same thing about the doors and cabinets. That trailer in terms of organization and cleanliness was immaculate. I've never seen such a full, clean fridge. And the variety!
My home bathroom is as big as this trailer. I just camp in my car on road trips. Cooler, snack bag, light luggage and roll. Plenty of free parking in isolated rest parks where i like to go and I go when the weather is comfortable without heat or AC.
My friends have a similar setup - teardrop *and* a fiberglass escape. I honestly wish I could do the same. There are times a teardrop is perfect and I really miss my Little Guy. But I like my Aliner for other purposes. Maybe when I retire … Love the fire blanket placement - we should all have them! Wish I had her handy skills to do the those mods myself. Gets so expensive.

She really is. She knows her stuff!
I have no idea why I watched this, but she's great!
😂 got to love the UA-cam algorithm. Glad you got to stop by and meet Jeannie.
I agree with the message, "don't wait" , "life is short". That is said with experience.
Great video!
@@jm.rv.3 Thank you, Jeannie! Very encouraging observation that the Casita is easier to backup than the Little Guy was.
Have I ever told you how much I appreciate all your kind comments. They really make my day!
@ oh you’re so kind!
Jeannie is an inspiration and definitely dedicated to taking Obie camping whenever the urge arises. She is fearless and talented with the modifications.
@imerica6589 I couldn't have said that any better!
Great video. And you’re a great interviewer. You let the lady do most of the talking and you asked excellent questions. I really enjoyed this. Thanks 👍🏻🇨🇦
Thanks so much. I love interviewing people who are passionate about life and what interests them. It's infectious isn't it?
He keeps it wholesome. Which is a rarity these days.
I'm 69yrs old live off grid. LOVE YOUR SET UP!! Great Camper!!
I just love the way this lady look at life . I enjoyed her trailers . Maybe one day I’ll get to go camping❤😊
That's the type of comment I was hoping to see. Someone, who is inspired to go camping because of Jeannie. Thank you for sharing this
Love the idea of a luxury camper and a more simple one. Then you can head out prepared based on the kind of trip you’re up for.
Thanks Drew! I love the enhancements to her Casita and they all look very well done! That little dog trailer is hilarious!!😂
Wow, Brad! As usual, I GREATLY appreciate this. And yes, that dog trailer was pure gold!
She did a great job making it her own.
Great ideas I'll bet others will utilize now.
She seems very down to earth and not afraid to DYI.
Awesome!
Thank you both for the excellent not dragged out tour.
Perfect!
Glad you enjoyed it! And I agree, I have a feeling a lot of us will be stealing these ideas.
Really, the idea is that you're just going to sleep in it, make meals, and get cleaned up. ....it'll get a little uncomfortable if you have to stay in it a couple of days due to rain, but the idea is that you're going to be outside mostly.
love the little dog. What a great walk through, this woman is so good describing her updates.
I owned a 13' Casita. Best trailer I ever owned. It was perfect for a small truck.
I could see that being a great combo with a small truck.
Genie is awesome! Love her campers!
Lovely lady. Her camper was spotless!
By far the most organized and spotless trailer we have highlighted on this channel
What a nice compliment Drew! Thank you. I just lucked out because I think the day you filmed it was the day we had the camper tours at the fiberglass gathering 🙂. I was all cleaned up and ready for company! 😁 @@PlayingwithSticks
What a pleasant lady! Love your casita and your little doggie!
I didn't even notice Obie was following us around until seeing the footage when I got back home. Such a well-behaved little guy.
@@PlayingwithSticks love his lil trailer as well
I had a 13 foot Casita 30 years ago that had a bath. I loved that camper.
Nice lady! Love her campers, love her style.
I'm right there with you!
Excellent offerings. She and her camper are wonderful.
Glad to hear this resonated with you. Jeannie is pretty special. I had a feeling people were going to enjoy this one
A kindred spirit for sure! I love that she has 3 campers including one for the dog!💜 Really clever mods and love her sense of adventure and ingenuity 🙌🏻👊🏻
I've had three Casita's over the last twenty years. Definitely my favorite brand
Woot woot! Another Casita owner. Great to hear the Casita community uniting here
We have a 2011 17ft Sprit Deluxe Casita that we have had for 7.5 years. We just got back from a trip to AZ from the greater Seattle Washington area. We live out of it and love it! I took the door off of bathroom and put up a curtain that doesn't get in the way.
I really like that door to curtain mod. That makes a lot of sense.
Thank you Genie and Drew for the insightful review.
You are most welcome! I have a feeling Genie will be on here soon too see this comment.
An amazing camper! A Casita is the cat's meow! I try not to envy this woman, but I do!
Beautiful little Casita. All of the owners enhancements were so well thought out.
EXCEPTIONAL filming of your Casita & the slowmo shots of your sweet dog was just PERFECT
This lady is blessed with a lot of common sense. I came to that opinion when early on she said I didn't understand why the switch for the outside light is on the outside and the changes she related afterwards confirmed my opinion,
That was so neat and to be able to alter things to suit personal needs is a plus. Not being afraid to do it is key.
During a campout. I was able to stand in a Casita of a friends. Right away I knew our teardrops day's were numbered.
Have loved camping in my Casita! Feels cozy and safe during bad rain storms...never had a leak!❤
Also own a Casita . Love it ! Biggest problem I had was refrigerator door fell off ! I fixed it myself. But , found out little house customs sells repair hinge supports. 😁
YES!!!! That is the beauty of a fiberglass trailer. Eliminate those seams and you eliminate those leaks.
Neat to know you are familiar with Little House Customs as well. They were new to me when Jeannie shared it with all of us.
Wow, this is like a dream camper! Love love love it!
We love our 2018 Casita. We got a custom mattress put in. It's way more comfortable than the one in our house. Love the mods this lady has done.❤
This is perfect for 1-2 and sooo cosy and bright
You're the first to mention how bright and cozy it is. That's exactly how I feel about these trailers.
Then it took us another half hour to figure out how to get it back in 😂
I like that idea of adding interior hooks.
Love the changes she made ! Excellent. And the sheets? Sooo cute !!!
We can go where others can’t!
Lots of the these Casitas out here ...she's right ...don't wait...life is too short!
Thanks for sharing this. I have a feeling after this video. Quite a few of us are going to be replacing our windows
Stunning lady , stunning camper, stunning video! Well done.
Love this positive comment! Thank you so much.
My Wife And I Enjoy Camping In Our 17’ Casita Spirit Deluxe, All Across The Great State Of Texas ! Best Camper For The Size.
Those journeys sound great! The more Texas camping videos I watch, the more I realize it's such a diverse state in terms of geography. So many places to see
You do a great job Drew!
Aww, thank you so much! I appreciate it.
How cute!
I totally agree! She did such a great job introducing us to her campers and Obie.
@PlayingwithSticks absolutely! Your videography of the bed with Obie in the air was brilliant as well 🙌
Love the vent window idea!!
Couldn't agree more with you!
I love what she did with that dinette area, that was brilliant!
I have a 2006 that was my fathers. It's a fantastic little trailer.
This comment highlights everything that's right about these trailers! A trailer for the generations.
Wonderful set up for her & pup.
I stopped by the Casita factory in E. Texas once about 20 years ago and was impressed by the quality of their build. Casitas are great for a single axle unit.
Do you they still make them ?
I want to be this handy and skilled. I wonder where she developed these skills.
That is a great question. And her terminology. Did you notice she knew right off the top of her head names, dimensions, etc. That is impressive.
Honestly some great little mods that I never even thought about, awesome!
Well done! She's enterprising, hardware and building-competent, built for camping. Nice comfort things in her design & layout, but I like her sense of what's nice to have vs luxury.
Lots of great additions. Thanks for sharing your lil home on wheels.
I really is a "lil home" isn't it.
Really nice mods and a perfectly perfect little camper.
Always great seeing you!
She’s a really cool lady!! My hats off to her 👏👏👏
Great job Jeannie! Loved it!!
@8:15 Speed handle - The tool for raising and lowering the stabilizer jacks. It's a low tech solution to a drill.
Yes sir lol
Love the interview, the camper, the pup and the beautiful lady. (Not necessarily in that order!)
That would be tough to put a ranking on those three. Love them all!!
@
I have boiled water on the stove for my mountain house backpacking meals if the weather is lousy outside! 😂 lol
@
The mountain house is really good!
2 campers I love in the same video kickin' ass together with a little lady and her dog
Bad ass! 💪
THE MOTTO OF THE DAY JUST DONT WAIT TO DO IT!
Hope you're having a good holiday season! Garret! Nice seeing you.
Lovely I wish I had one of these. You have everything you would ever need.
Lovely! Yes, now i want to go camping! And I'd like to camp with all y'all!
I also upgraded from tenting to a
t😢eardrop so i could get out faster on the weekends.
That trailer setup is more than my house. I love it! Great going enjoy! Thank you!
😂 we are with you, I think we've lived in some places that didn't live up to the Casita standard.
Enough for one, it's beautiful and cozy. ❤
It's getting cold now so I will just watch your channel until I can get back out in the woods. Thank you.
Love it! I always wanted this channel to be a bit of an escape for us camp nerds.
Outstanding! I suspect this woman is a librarian. What a thoughtful group of revisions to this trailer. :)
I like this video and this lady, chasing her dream. Awesome
Jeannie, this is such a helpful video! I love what you have created! What do you haul it with?
