If there’s anything good to come from the lock-down, it’s that I’ve discovered Harry Metcalfe with his garage and farm, Iain Tyrell and his fascinating knowledge of Italian cars, and now this channel with more of the same. I can’t be done with all the mainstream TV formats of mend it and flog it or “celebrities” acting like idiots while abusing cars they haven’t got a clue about. I was offered a couple in the 1980's for £5,000. One was rough and the other was lovely.

@@benson0078 No unfortunately not. There wasn't the demand for the Dino until it got that badge with the horse on it. It's all in the name! I bought a flat floor e-type instead on one occasion as I decided spares prices would be more Ford than Rolls. A friend did buy one of them though and ended up sinking a fortune into a engine rebuild at that time.
1992 I drove past a garage with a Silver Dino for sale every day... too and from work. It sat for over a year with a sticker price of £25,000
Be happy. It´s loud and nevertheless limp. No space, not very worthy produced. Unpractical. No luggage space too. And the engine is a racing engine! He produced it only for the 2 liter class. And Ferrari know the less amount of power very well. No horse emblem, and aluminium body for the first cars to get a little bit more performance with reduced weight. Yes, a blueprint for the forthcoming midengined Fiat-era-Ferraris but nothing more...
If only our teachers at school had been as interesting to listen too as Ian Tyrrell is !!!
Agreed but a Dino is a slightly more interesting topic than geometry or further maths...

I had such a teacher, in geography which I hated so much. Earlier, they were teaching us useless info, production of wheat, number of population etc. This man was driving a Datsun 1600 convertable - already a good sign to us boys - and he took us around the globe, following the F1 championship, data on population, location of the tracks, currency, history of different ethnicity of each country.
We were absolutely amazed and interested while learning.
Such teachers were and are a rarety ! Hats of to Iain !
That's the sort of market where the experts like Iain Tyrell not only know the history and location of every car, but all the potential buyers, too. However, if you just want a nice little mid-engined sports car to drive rather than show off, pour a few thousand into a Pontiac Fiero (even get a Dino look-alike body) and you'll get pretty much the same thing. (The dimensions and performance up to 100mph of a Fiero matche the 308 very closely.)

The Dino is one of the best designed cars, a masterpiece of Pininfarina. And the story of that engine is remarkable. Looking on the other Dino driven cars- all of them are collectable classics. The lovely Fiat Dino 2.0 Coupé by Bertone and the fantastic looking Fiat Dino Spider by Pninfarina. Not to forget the Lancia Stratos also by Bertone and if I ´m remembering it right by Marcello Gandini.

Iain just has to be the aficionado of this model . His knowledge of all things exotic seems to be inexhaustible. I recall in the early '70's l apprenticed at South Devon Garages .A customer part exchanged one of these jewels for an "e" type . I think it sat around unsold for some time and l believe it was sent rather ignominiously to auction ! Rather coincidental that this is for sale at Supercars Monaco .
In the late 70s I bought a Dino Spider by phone from a well known dealer across the country.
A friend and I flew across the country after the Christmas season (I worked in the retail sector) to retrieve the car. A friend of mine who had met us at the airport got a ride in the car, and my companion got a ride in the car but by the time it was my turn, the car wouldn’t shift any more.
The seller got under the car to fix it, but between the shifter, and wood screws coming out through the floor, I had had enough. I asked for my money back, and I never even got to sit in the car.
And that was the last Ferrari I owned, albeit briefly.
Thank you for a very interesting video , I really wonder what my LHD 1970 246 GT would be worth now I have heard that a 1970 has a little more value because it was on the cross over from a 206 , my car had the knock on wheels I believe 1970 was the only year that the 246 had that , how I wished I had kept the car I sold back in about 1984 in Canada the car ended up in the USA.
For him to say the 246 GT is not desirable seems biased.

Sorry! Ian Tyrell forgot the worst part of the original engine. The camshafts wore out because of zero oilline into the cylinder head! No problem for a racing engine which will be tear out after each race, but on a street cars??? Engine overhault in this original configuration no later than every 70-80.000 km. (I´m here no kidding) A big applause for Enzo´s callousness! Maybe therefore he named it after his sick son DINO! Sorry, for my blashemic joke to all members of the "Frightend black horse on peeing ground" religion!

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
crime here, called emissions and smoke crime....

you and your stupid comments about classic cars get banned from public streets what bullshit !!!!! i own a Dino in Germany since more then 12 years and i drive it and i love it...and i take it to italy in 2025 for a long road trip.i think your just jealous , that you cannot afford one ..and thats why you bring out this bullshit and false trues. its not the first time i read your idiotic comments on here!!!!!!!
