    Well done video. I had my first Ferrari(Dino) in 1982 and it was wrecked in a crash with a Volvo wagon. Those Volvo's are tanks for sure--. There was something very special about the Dino; fabulous looks and incredible sound from the small 2.4 liter V6. I always felt I was racing, even on a slow trip to the market. It was a far more exciting car than the 348 Spider that I bought years later. I remember the day a group of Hell's Angels bikers surrounded the car on a trip up LA's Mulholland Dr and they all gave me big thumbs up and approving nods. It was a good day to own a Dino----

    Like a lot of folks, I only knew the Dino as the poor man's Ferrari, the knock off, the fake. After watching this video and seeing the passion of the car's 'custodian' and hearing for the first time the tragic but heartwarming story of the cars creation I have a great, newfound respect for the Dino. Thank you /DRIVE for opening my eyes with such a well produced video.

    When i was 11 yrs old in Scotland - 1976 - my father knew a guy with one of these - this chap took me and my brother who was 8 - in his Dino - both of us crammed in the passenger seat - no seat belt and went thru the Scottish countryside at 100-120 MPH ! - I'll never forget that....what a trip !

    When I was in my 20’s my boss had a Dino and the dealer was in Reno. He kept having problems with the car. It was at the dealer in Reno and he wanted to me to drive him up to Reno from Sacramento. On our way, he asked if I didn’t mine flying up and letting me drive back alone. We stopped in Auburn and flew up in his plane. Picked up the car and drove him back to the Reno. I was starving and stopped at McDonalds and people were staring at me when I got. Here I was in this expense car and wearing jeans a t-shirt and work boots and stopping at Mickey D’s. I got half way back and could not figure out how to turn on the lights. Every car I had driven had a light switch on the dash and this was before cell phones. So I stopped at a rest area and used the pay phone to call Jack at his house. I was embarrassed not to know that there was a switch on the turn signal that turned on the lights. It was a blast driving such a cool car from Reno to Auburn by myself and I had plenty of cars pull up next to me, eyeing it over. You sat so low to the ground and looking out the windshield all you could see was the road. It was like driving a go cart with a windshield. Loads of fun.

    Always my favourite Ferrari, even if it wasn’t officially Ferrari. So beautiful and nimble. Even if it might be sacrilege to some, I think it is very comparable to an early Porsche 911, except that 911s were much more reliable.

  • @davespears7808
    @davespears7808 10 років тому

    While the Ferrari family story about Dino is quite tragic and even though the car is so pretty, it was never all that good as a sports car. Sorry internet fans and dreamers, but compared to a Porsche 914/6 the Dino handles as if its perched on a off road lift kit, the steering has that weird Fiat 124 coupe tractor like feel to it and for its day it was slower than your neighbors Porsche 911S. The Dino is really more art than performance. I have driven them and every time it was a disappointment, but get out and look at it and it is so stunningly gorgeous that it just melts your heart. Salute Dino!

    For those who own or have driven a US version, you don't know what you're missing. I have a 1971 European version. It has more horse power, more torque, and is 100 kg lighter. Plus it is geared differently. It drives completely different than the US version. I let someone with a US version drive my car. His reaction, "Wow. What did you do to it?" Nothing. That is the way that Enzo Ferrari wanted it.

    • @Driftuner
      @Driftuner 10 років тому +7

      well..i used to do that on old carburator motorcycles to prevent the engine from boging down when i up-shift...sometimes old carburators get some air flowing back from the intake (blow-back), because of the "negative" air flow due to back-pressures from other cylinders, and the engine "coughs", because its not getting enough air and/or fuel from the carburator...to prevent that from throwing the engine too low down on the RPMs you just keep it breathing with a momentary gas while shiffting...i dont know if that was HIS reason, but at least thats what i used to do..

      I understand that they only get a small amount through UA-cam... but they could have plugged products and had ads play within their own video as well as the ads that UA-cam plays, could they not?

    • @TheCuriousNoob
      @TheCuriousNoob 10 років тому

      Matthew Miller AdBlock extensions get rid of banner, video, and all sorts of other type of ads. It has been devastating to UA-camrs... especially the ones who don't have a wealthy investor.
      I wish UA-cam would make its ads 15 seconds or less. A 15 second ad doesn't really seem to take all that long, but when it is a 30 second ad it feels like an eternity. Maybe less people would install adblocking software that way..

    • @TheCuriousNoob
      @TheCuriousNoob 10 років тому +1

      15 seconds is a good compromise... if they were only allowed 5 seconds for a commercial, I can almost guarantee that they would just pepper ads in the middle of our movies.
      Can't really blame them for trying to make more money... the quality of car shows (Motor Trend, /DRIVE, Smoking Tire etc) on youtube is amazing... but they are also extremely expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if they use an outside source for funding... this channel just doesn't get enough views to cover the freakish costs.
      I think 15 seconds would satisfy most advertisers while also preventing any more channels from inserting ads in the middle of the clip (which is becoming common argh)

      the thing is, the cars were always "magnificent" in a totaly subjective way...all ferraris, absolutely all of them are famous for going wrong all the time..they just never ever work properly...i drove the 430S and the Italia hoping it would be any better, and it wasnt...it is really still up to date a brand made for status and "feelings"...there is a ferrari dealer right across the street to where i used to work a couple of years ago...and i will tell you: i have NEVER EVER seen so many broken cars to be repaired in a huge parking lot like this ferraris dealer...and add to that in consideration that my brother used to own a repair garage, and that i am myself a testdriver for a brand i am not allowed to say on the web..and even our none finished prototypes dont go as wrong as finished/already-sold ferraris..

      Huh, nice post there. I guess it's all about the imagination and the perception. I've never sat in a Fezza, let alone driven one, but I imagine they are a great experience, expecially the older ones. Kinda like supermodel sex, eh?
      I really dont like where Fezza is headed as a brand, focused on banker wankers and douchebags rather than making pieces of art for years to come.

      true..yes the feelings and all these "unexplainable" subjective stuff really come up inside you when you drive one, there is no denying that ferraris are very emotional..but as you said, the direction the brand is taking is hard to understand..specially now that they are selling a big margin of ferraris ownership to private people...now a days anyone who has money can "own" a piece of ferrari...not a car! the BRAND! now a days if you have money you can even own the brand! its ridiculous...

    The lines are perfect.
    The curves.....almost feminine.
    The proportions are very aesthetic.
    Enzo must have had woman in mind designing this beauty.
    He should have retired after reaching perfection in this model.

      Enzo said the lines of a car should look like the figure of a beautiful woman.
