I've been a subscriber for a couple of years. When my wife recently passed away at the age of 64, the name of your channel suddenly had a lot more meaning.
My sons and I have a good friend Richard and his family who live in Sheffield. We met him when he came over to Jackson, Mississippi, where I’m from, during his gap year. I ended up assigned to be his contact for a project he was working on which brought him to the city. When we were visiting in September, 2017, while my sons went to one of the climbing gyms in Sheffield, Richard took me to see Hardwick Hall! We even saw the Chesterfield church spire on our way there. So you know I thoroughly enjoyed getting to walk around in there a bit with y’all today. Thank you! See you next time from over here in Portland, Oregon.
Longer videos would be great.... can't get enough of your adventures! I never go anywhere really and watching you guys allows me to enjoy all the beautiful places you visit. You are two genuinely lovely souls. ❤❤
A superb video with all of my favourite Carole and Ken adventures. I especially love the visits to the historical houses. The interior of Hardwick Hall was beautiful.
Definitely a thumbs up to the longer format. I always enjoy you taking us around stately homes/Manor Houses and listening to the history. Can’t beat early crisp mornings when it’s not too busy. Another cracking vlog. Thank you 😊
I'm a new subscriber.Happened across your wonderful channel and it has fast become my go to chill out watch. As a busy writer with stacks of deadlines your videos are a real sanctuary for my busy brain. Keep up the great work and safe travels.
@@LifeistooshortCK We love the places you visit, the music, Carols history narration, your cooking and your calm intuitive personality due to your life experience. Honestly, we watch others and they could learn a great deal from you two. Long may it continue…oh and you’re looking great!
As you say, your videos are calming and relaxing. The music you choose is very nice and Ken’s drone segments are impeccable. We travel in the U.S. in a van similar to yours, which we named Valiant. We enjoy our adventures in ours and we enjoy traveling along with you in Snoopy.
Hello, I really enjoyed this video, thank you for sending it to me. I went to Aldi for the first time this morning, and I will definitely be going back there again. We normally get chicken, white rice and sauce to go over the top of it at Tesco's. At a price. But after that we decided to go to Aldi, and in there was sweet and sour chicken with everything in this packet for 85p. It was lovely now I understand why you shop there. Lovely 🌹🌹🌹 to see you both. Take care 😘😘😘 X X X
Just found you guys and I love your videos. In this one I believe you asked for iPad game recommendations for 2. My sister and I play “Friends with Words 2”. It’s basically scrabble but lots of fun. I believe that we have 15 different games going. Thank you for sharing your adventures!
I just love you two. Genuinely makes me feel happy watching you both. 5 years time hopefully I retire and me and the other half have a westfalia on order to do something similar.
You two are outrageously cute! Fun to listen to your narratives and always a takeaway gem of a new tip. Very much appreciated!! British Columbia Canada
The first time, I could not watch your video as I had something to do at the same time so I just listened to it and it was absolutely beautiful with the great choice of musics, your light conversations and your narration. Then I could watch the video with the pictures and it was spectacular with the tour of amazing castles. Many thanks!
This was a good series. Getting all the bugs worked out, getting the van situated the way you like, all while enjoying good food, adventures, and exploring beautiful homes. Looking forward to next Friday! Mary
Enjoyed that guys. Our LPG gauge is very unreliable. We tend to fill up whenever we see it available. Loved the misty driving. Well done getting up the hill guys. Fantastic views. That looks a nice park up there. What a bacon roll that was 😍. Hardwick Hall looks absolutely amazing and those tapestries 😮. Thanks guys
Looks like you are getting on really well with the new van, after a few teething problems. Some lovely history in this episode, and naturally a visit to Aldi. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful film, thank you. I have always wanted to visit Hardwick Hall, so happy you took us with you. Looking forward to your New Forest trip, my neck of the woods.
Your storytelling brings it all to life. I’ve never heard of Bess of Hardwick and was intrigued by the spelling of Shrewsbury on her portrait, so I’ve now learned that she was Countess of Shrewsbury, my county town in Shropshire! I love the early mornings too & have discovered the mylpg app, very useful. Don’t know the New Forest, looking forward to that. X
Hi Ken and Carol I have just come across your video,s and I am really enjoying coming along for the ride and seeing all the scenery and what your cooking for dinner. I love your pet name bunny as well my name is Melissa and my husband calls me Joan from Adelaide Australia. 😍

Hi Carol and Ken we have got a bit behind but have settled down for a relaxing evening binge watching you to get back up to date. We loved your trip here to Nostell its a property we love to visit regularly the house is beautiful and the gardens and wider estate lovely to walk around. They have a particularly good Father Christmas here during December who always shares a few tales if you visit in the week when it's quiet. The breakfast looked great you needed it for the climb to the castle. Hardwick is another of our favourite places as well just love the feel of the house and Bess is such a strong character. Looking forward to watching your new series . Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Do you have a bathroom? I enjoy watching your videos because I see the landscape in a different country through your eyes…. It sure rains a lot there. I’m from California where the weather seems perfect most of the time…
Yes we do. It’s the rain that makes our countryside so green. We have a real mix of weather and like it. It makes us really appreciate the sun when it pops out 😁👍
I think the drapes Ona four poster were for privacy cos sometimes servant or ladies maid stayed in the bedroom,or merely to keep draughts off and the light out ..thanks for the great video Ken n carol.
These videos could never be too long ❤. Thank you both. Can’t wait for our camper van which is on order. I’ve mentioned it before but I’ll say it again….. all the information you gave during your own selection of a suitable van was so helpful in leading us to our van….thank you again.
Wonderful video. Hardwick Hall was stunning. Your videos are interesting and so comforting to watch. Reminds me of my car travels in the UK from the US though I use trains in recent trips. Keep those videos coming!
Great trip, thank you for sharing your adventure. Like the longer runtime. Regarding descaling your hot water heater, I've done it several times over the years, on our caravans, and previous motorhomes, it's not a difficult job. I thought the water in Ireland was hard, but in Spain this winter we found the water incredibly hard and chalky. The electric kettle was the benchmark and descaled at least 4 times. I have a 15 litre container in which I put 4-5 litres of WHITE vinegar then fill the remainder with water. Ensure the water heater is OFF. Empty the water heater by lifting the yellow tap. Once the HW tank is empty, shut the yellow tap, and using the water supply hose from the container Pump and refill the HW tank until the pump stops. To completely empty the container open up a hot tap until the solution can be noticed (smell or taste with vinegar! NOT any other chemical descaler!!) NB: this maybe a bit different in a motorhome, as your tank is internal. So you may have to do this via the van water tank, which should be empty beforehand. I give the water heater a single cycle on the hottest setting and then leave the solution for 12 hours then drain and flush with fresh water. I understand there are no elements within the HW tank, as they (on electric) are within the outer aluminium fluted shell. The gas, or in your case diesel, the flame is within the burner assembly. It's fairly noticeable when the job needs doing as you become accustomed to how long it takes to heat the water, and you'll notice that the water temperature isn't quite as hot.
thank you for mentioning descaling the truma heater had never heard of it before am installing a truma in my self build and now have found out how to descale the truma when necessary ,the house was amazing so much to see
Love the longer video. Great episode today. Carol as a ex photography business owner (my husband was the photographer) your work is so beautiful. You have a great artistic eye. You should do some postcards of your work to sell.
Hi, lovely vlog. That breakfast looked wonderful. Lovely old historic houses but yes would need loads of staff. I love looking at old photos to see what outfits they wore etc. Thank you safe travels ❤❤
Fantastic video, I love the longer vlog, for the shorter vlogs, I'm always so sad when they come to an end. Sometimes I watch them twice 😄Loved the rainbow in the mist and Ken's sense of humour with the overhead cupboard and the bottle falling out, glad it didn't hit Carol on the head. Brilliant videography of the properties. The cafe in Castleton looked brilliant, I hope it's dog friendly. We found a brilliant dog friendly cafe at Deepdale Burnham in Norfolk, just by the campsite, and in Kendal, the Farmhouse Kitchen, and then at Sizergh Farm Shop. We're back home now after 820 miles over 9 nights, our longest campervan trip yet 🚐😄 Looking forward to your New Forest trip, were off there again soon 😍 xxxxx
Another interesting wee trip around and getting errands done. What happened at the camping ground, think you said you would stay two days, saw you arrive and then next you were somewhere else...?? Hope the heater & batteries will work well. I find it great to see you have little obstacles to your 'wild camping' spots regarding 2m barriers, and still manage to find interesting spots. It seemed alarming near Castleton with all roads clogged with dozens of camper vans, I would think a dangerous move to attract local authorities to start banning/prohibiting camper vans. I discovered recently that very amateurish signs erected near lots of busy tourist spot/places, are actually erected by the local authority to 'protect local residents' (Clutha District Council), and have obviously left their official stuff off the signs to try and stop any financial backlash from campers (vans, trucks & caravans) even fully certified self-contained!! Result, sole shop & camping ground are failing and now for sale. Loved the castle stroll!! From memory I thought there was a 'blue grotto' cave at Castleton?? Been lashing rain & screaming wind here, gentle just now. Take care and stay safe. Kia Ora from New Zealand. 💜💜
Castleton is a lovely village, we have stopped at Lane Ends Caravan Site about a mile down the road in the village of Hope. It’s a lovely walk through the fields to Castleton from Hope. You won’t regret that Lithium Battery, we have the EcoTree version of the same size and it genuinely has been a game changer for our van.
Castleton, it’s parked up like that every Friday,S,S and some week days too, nose to tail, can’t see the fun in it? Then under Tinsley viaduct, then Chesterfield, that’s a cracking spot.
That was am amazing adventure. There is no way I could have made it up that hill after that breakfast! Before breakfast maybe, but after, I'd have needed a stroll and a nap to recover. There were some breath taking views from that walk. Can't wait to see what's next.

First of all I love your thumbnail 👍. Second I loved this vlog, you visited some lovely places. A perfect mixture of van life, food and history (love english history). I will miss out on your next two videos, as I'm travelling to France, but will catch up after my return. Stay safe and thank you for the entertainment 🙏
I discovered your charming channel a couple weeks ago. I'm impressed with the photography and editing, it's very professionally done. I'm in the States ( in the rocky mountains) you'd love rambling through our mountains ,towns and cities. Come over a visit sometime. Happy travels.
I once read that the drapes were for privacy for the sleeper as well as warmth. In those days servants often were in the rooms all night in case they were needed. The would be outside the curtains if needed, but with the curtains got to hear, but not see, whatever was happening in the beds. The higher in society the sleeper, the more servants in the room.
Experimenting with a longer format folks. Hope you enjoy the video. 👍
Absolutely fine. There is a pause button if needed.
Enjoyed the longer format.
Enjoyed it... enjoy all your videos ❤

Thanks so much! 😊
I discovered your charming channel a couple weeks ago. I'm impressed with the photography and editing, it's very professionally done. I'm in the States ( in the rocky mountains) you'd love rambling through our mountains ,towns and cities. Come over a visit sometime. Happy travels.
Welcome aboard! Glad you enjoy our channel. I’m sure we will visit the US again one day 🙂
I loved this video. Thank you so much.x Take care both. Stay safe.
Thanks Joanna 🙂
I once read that the drapes were for privacy for the sleeper as well as warmth. In those days servants often were in the rooms all night in case they were needed. The would be outside the curtains if needed, but with the curtains got to hear, but not see, whatever was happening in the beds. The higher in society the sleeper, the more servants in the room.
I wonder what that was like 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK I definitely couldn’t sleep with people hanging in my room! Ha ha ha. Of course, it’s all about what you are used to, I suppose.
Lovely length of video, lovely 🥰 video. Hardwick Hall ❤ blooming great! I love it 😍
