- The Backrooms is an urban legend and creepypasta describing an endless maze of randomly generated office rooms and other environments. In 2022, VFX artist and UA-camr Kane Pixels created a found footage horror series about The Backrooms on UA-cam. The topic also being touched on by UA-camrs such as Broogli and Return To Render, and the series by Kane being a huge hit, earning millions of views and reactions from large creators such as The Film Theorists and SomeOrdinaryGamers. Today we'll discuss Kane Pixels' series and try to make sense of this huge mystery.

A few things have been pointed out to me since it came out, 1: The name “John Doe” is a placeholder name and isn’t actually the name of the person found dead in the backrooms, i didn’t realise this at first as the placeholder name “John Doe” is only used in the united states, and 2: DOE stands for Department Of Energy and isn’t related to the name John Doe in any way. If there’s anything else i got wrong or missed please let me know!
The Name Of The Missing Person Is Nicholas Bolton.
One of the men in the suits for the presentation is James D. Watkins, the U.S. Secretary of Energy from 1989 to 1993 (in the real world.). Pretty good 3d model actually, allthough I didn't discover this on my own.

Its also worth noting that DOE is also the acronym for the Department Of Energy which is a more plausible assumption for the presentation vid given that one of the 'Important' people in the vid looks like admiral James Watkins who was the secretary of energy from 1989 to 1993 (likely he was inspecting the facility).

I have 2 theories.
1: i think ivan beck was a young man when he accidentally no clipped into the back rooms and somehow escaped it. Then got a job at async and presented his story and the idea to use the backrooms for advantage to them. I think he is also the one who is speaking in the video '' i remember''.
2: i think the bacteria is an attempt of backrooms to mimick living things. It is in human shape probably because maybe only humans have no clipped into the back rooms as of right now

Your first theory has actually been debunked by Kane's newest additions to the series. Those videos imply that Ivan Beck is the one who encountered these found footage videos and wanted to find out more about the "backrooms". Hence he's probably the founder of ASYNC with an excuse to experiment on nuclear physics while in truth is that he's actually trying to open a portal to a different dimension.
It's almost as if the entity had captured the sounds of its former victims and was mimicing them to lure Marvin to it. Scary stuff.
Just realised what you meant. I think you mean the entity in the neighborhood. That is scary im going to be honest because it did sound like real human screams (probably because it was) And also the sandles and stuff may have been stuff left by people too (Edit: It did actually do that. I just realised the entity screamed "HELLO, CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME?" Which is the same noise that the movie guy made when he first got in there

I just binged Kane's series, along with a few 'inspired by' vids, and I'm loving the unsettling vibe they gives. While watching the series I developed the notion (not really a theory, just a notion) that the Backrooms is a construct built by higher dimensional beings and is something that we were not supposed to know about, and that maybe it is the proof that we are living in a simulation.
Regardless, the Backrooms is a great genre and I look forward to watching it grow and develop.

Kane started the series when he was 15 which in itself is insane to think about. This quality from being self-taught. Also he's working on a full-blown movie with a legit film studio about this series.

Theory that Marv while in the house hearing someone yell "Hello, can anyone hear me?" was himself.
If Space and Time are broken he is hearing himself as if the monster never came. The voice is very similar to one we've heard before, but it wasn't either of the kids.
The voice we hear sounds older.
After watching this is an incredible analysis I realized that The Backrooms may possibly be one the greatest works of science fiction of our time. I'm all in, and thanks.

I haven’t watched many of your videos until recently but I’m glad I watched this one. It’s brilliantly done and I found myself genuinely engaged with it and actively listening for the majority of it. I think longer videos work quite well for you (even if they take ages to make) because you can show off the skills you’ve accumulated over time. The visuals and music choices in this were great. It's important to understand the similarities to HL2. Nobody wants to say it but it's clearly the main inspiration. "Resonance Cascade". "G-Man". etc.
That ending recording you used of the computer singing "Daisy" was what inspired Kubrick to use the same song near the end of "2001: A Space Odyssey" as sung by HAL. It gets me every time...

I think you should know that Kane Pixel's backrooms lore is different from the wiki's lore. Kane's backrooms lore doesn't have levels, it simply has areas. It also doesn't have all those weird monsters running around like the wiki's lore does. Kane's backrooms lore is more featured around Liminal Space instead of heaps of monsters..
ok i have my own theory. that rather than a-sync causing the california earthquake at 5:04pm the earthquake actually interfered with a-syncs test. opening the backrooms. i believe this because in first contact the man speaking appeared to be confused and frightened by the backrooms opening. i feel like is you where working on something for 6 years you would not be surprised by what comes out of it.

That theory about The Backrooms using people to build a world might make sense. Especially levels with the weird core aspect of the outdoors and whatnot. Nostalgia and weird core is often used in The Backrooms, potentially created from the minds of people who fell into The Backrooms where their memories got tapped into who had those feelings and memories.
I thought DoE stood for Department of Energy
OK I have something to tell you about those dates in the description. on the slate where they used to film the scene, it shows July 4, 1991, that was the date the footage was recorded. September 23, 1996 is when the camera was found lying on the ground at the end of the video. So yeah, it can be a bit confusing, but this comment will explain why.

Bro this is so interesting, so glad I have a video like this to explain and stuff and have theories. I don’t know why, but I’m having like a huge rush of “I need to talk to someone about this because it is so cool and so interesting” like the fact they tried to have people live in it and store stuff is for some reason so interesting. And so is the backrooms is trying to replicate the earth, backrooms is one of my favorite things. And somehow I didn’t even watch any of the lore. Now I’m caught up, and very happy that I am lol. Also the bacteria vines and disease thing are so cool, like it makes so much sense. They are literally called bacteria, it would make sense we could get a disease off of them or something. And like the whole deteriorating thing is weird and stuff is just so cool. Like the whole thing is so cool to me I can’t rn- I’m not usually this ranty or talkative either. I just find this so fun and interesting lol

The date in the description is the date that the footage was found on the ground after dropping out of the backrooms at the end (the date that they started recording before the noclip is on the film clipper thing) suggesting that the backrooms alters the flow of time as well
It could be argued that ASYNC discovered/created a rudimentary form of time travel...
its actually sad the child (ellis white) got trapped.
The weird thing about found footage 1 is that the footage was found in 1996 and he was filming that movie with his friends in 1991

Im 54 years young and absolutely luv this . Just the whole concept of other portals and dimensions exsisting in our world but i have so many questions like how do random items like couches tables get in backrooms. Are all the entities once human if not how did they get there? Can they come into our world? How do malls arcades hotels even residential suburbia get there? What are the pool rooms about never see to many entities in those areas. How come only people with video cameras fall in backrooms? So many questions but definitely creepy eerie strange and luv it

Great video but I do wanna mention in the first found footage you can see the camera man is grabbed by the bacteria if you slow it down alot when it appears behind him

Looked up Laura Harris… her most notable film “the faculty” deals w someone seeing someone’s murder/death then seeing them again later on like nothing happened.

When your wound or blood is exposed to a specific area of the backrooms, I was thinking maybe your body undergoes some silent mutation until it is no longer silent and you can visibly see and feel yourself mutating? maybe, this is not applicable to every creature in the backrooms but perhaps for some.

I think it’s more disturbing if the back rooms are endless and random and the exact copies are just random chance. With enough rooms you’ll get exact copies

I don’t think this version of the back rooms has levels. I think it’s more just an infinite void of liminal space of different variety
is ASYNC next to californias highest mountain (loma pireta), because i saw that its in the middle of nowhere in backrooms report, i remember and google earth. although we don’t know if it is but by the looks of it it is, if u look in collateral, it never mentioned it came from ASYNC, so it can or cannot be in the mountains

Going back to when you talked about how the backrooms trying to mimic the world, The bacteria and the virus may be the backrooms trying to mimic life and illness, you talked about how the bacteria looked almost human like having two arms, two legs and a head, could mimic human voice but they still appeared disproportionate, this links to another point you made on how the backrooms isn’t doing the best job on mimicking the world as they appear human but they are not identical to humans.

Oh no... the second you mentioned the backrooms wiki, I stopped watching. Kane confirmed that he has no knowledge of concepts like "entities" or "levels", which basically turned the whole concept into a boring video game. The only way the backroom are structured i Kane's universe are different room with numbers assigned by A-Sync, one example being the Pitfalls room 14C. One other thing: what you and the backrooms wiki call "Level 188" in literally a hotel in London, which is why it appears in both versions of the backrooms. I appreciate the effort you put into the video, but explaining Kane's videos using the wiki should honestly be illegal. They have a completely isolated story of their own.
alright, i explained this in the pinned comment that i made a mistake, and quite honestly i didn’t refer to the wiki a single time past this part of the video, im not an expert on this subject, i simply tried compiling and documenting all of the videos that had been released in the series, when you’re in a rat race to get your video out first amongst all other creators on the site whilst the topic is popular, you’re bound to make some mistakes (yes, even popular youtubers do it), this of which really isn’t that deep unless you care way too much about every minute detail. regardless of whether it put you off the video or not, i don’t think i should be thrown in jail for making and adressing a tiny mistake in a small little youtube video essay, call me crazy but you may be overreacting a little bit
@@FredJonesy well, ok, I was definitely exaggerating. Did watch the video after all, and it's pretty good. And some of the things I thought you missed, you picked them up again later in the video. And as you said, many other youtubers at the time had some mistakes in their videos as well. I am sorry for overreacting, I kinda get triggered for some reason when someone tries fitting the wiki on Kane's videos. It's like trying to put Star Trek and Star wars into the same universe😂
