What was that driver doing? It was sitting there fine then tried to move when the truck was right there and honked the horn making the truck driver take even longer.
(12-Nov-19) And we all know that bridges do not want to ELOPE, even though it is what people sometimes GROPE. Fortunately, the Can Opener Bridge always has a way to COPE.
Looking at the second angle, if the truck had of been next to the right hand gutter, it may have been enough for the truck to clear the beam, due to the camber of the road.
holidayhouse03 All these drivers think they're Tootle... "I think I can, I think I can..." But the "I thought I could, I thought I could..." comes without making it through unscathed.
It's the ones like this that make me laugh. they stop, kind of look at it, and you know, in their head, it's like, "This truck is short enough, right? Why would they make a truck too tall? Why would they make a bridge too short? Hmmm... you know what? I'm just gonna go for it. It'll be fine! What's the worst that can happen?" *CRASH* "Well shit."
This is one of the craziest ones. At least with the others, they had no clue how tall their vehicle was. This guy KNEW it probably wouldn't fit after checking, but went anyway.
Because sometimes the reason they're doing so is important, like in this case. Other examples would be trying to get a driver's attention to point out a fire or something dragging from the vehicle.
It actually looks like he might've made it if he'd tried closer to the edge of the road (you can see that only the left side of the box, which is higher up due to the road's camber, actually hits the crash bar, while the right side slips in just under the bar).
crazythedon I bet you were thinking of that one while bunper riding an old lady going the speed limit only to aggressively pass her using the left turn lane. WITHOUT a turn signal.
The older warning system had an average of one crash per month. The *NEW! IMPROVED!!* warning system was installed 12 May 2016. This is the tenth crash since that fool-proof, idiot-proof systen was installed. 10 crashes in 11 months is an improvement, however, but only if we do not get a 12th crash before 12 May 2017
Thank you for your service! I served in USAF 1972 - 1980. My point is that to _some_ of us, it's not weird. As you said, this eliminates ambiguity. Thanks, again.
Ben Tabor I don't see it light up at all in this video. Not sure when they removed it, but I was last through a day or two before this video was uploaded and it was gone.
Finally a driver having enough since to realize this is not going to work I need to have a plan B and do it right now. I don't understand the people that are blowing at him everyone else realizes he can't go that way he's got back up
Somebody ought to rent a box truck and come at it from the wrong way just to make it super special. And do it right as a train is crossing over the top. Maybe 2 box trucks with 1 coming from each direction!
They should add flashing lights and an airhorn that won't stop until the truck goes elsewhere! Also, they should add two weatherproof large LCD displays with loudspeakers on both banks. Whenever a truck hits, the loudspeakers will start blaring circus music and the displays will start playing videos of dancing clowns, cymbal clashing monkeys, a row of trained elephants all sitting down, fireworks, gilded ladies standing upright on moving horses, etc., etc.
Maybe the sign should simply say "If these lights are flashing, you *will* hit this bridge" Drivers will take the positive statement as a direction and they'll defy the direction by going another direction and so not hitting the bridge. ;)
It’s a metaphor for life. If something has caused you to stop and think, is this a good idea? Will I fit? Should I try a different option? Than it’s a pretty good clue that you should probably not creep forward just to make sure the damage is gonna happen.
What a perfect word to be written on an 11'8" bridge customer. Hope tries to triumph over reason, which can only result in the brutal triumph of reason over hope. "Nature cannot be fooled." and "Every lie incurs a debt to the truth, a debt which must eventually be paid." come to mind. But this guy was failing at driving a truck, not operating space shuttles or nuclear reactors.
The road is irritating, significantly higher in the middle than on the sides. Each truck therefore drives slightly tilted to one side towards the bridge and through under it, tilted to the right in the right lane, tilted to the left in the left lane. Some trailers lean more than the driver cab, which is why the driver may underestimate the difference in height between the sides. In the case of this video, the truck was driving in the right lane and the driver was looking from left to right to check the height. He saw that there was still free room. From this position, however, he did not see that this only applied to the right side.
I'd say this truck was aptly labelled... this one had hope because it actually slowed down and didn't manage to get cut in half or scrap too much off the top
Then, he might have gotten hung up if he turned just a little bit, which could have resulted in more damage. That road does slope a little bit, though. It looked like he could have made it if the road was level.
The BMW driver had just ordered the Ombre Pink Drink at Starbucks (via his app) and therefore could not afford the luxury of a brief delay at this intersection.
He hesitated, thought about it, and still went ahead. The triumph of hope over reason.
Don't ya know? Going slower causes your vehicle to shrink while going faster causes it to expand. I think the effect is called thermal dilation.
Everyone's patient and understanding.
...and then there's the BMW driver.
What was that driver doing? It was sitting there fine then tried to move when the truck was right there and honked the horn making the truck driver take even longer.
BMW's new optional extra after turn signals: Patience
Yeah, I can see how infuriating backing up slightly must have been.
Right. Everyone has to work together for a whole minute to let the truck out, but only the BMW is losing his shit.
Well, also you. :-)
He made room for the truck. Truly a saint among men.
It's just poetic that the word written on the truck describes the behavior of the driver so perfectly.
"If I sneak up on it slowly, maybe it won't notice me!"
lol. And denied the truck was.
"Maybe they mis-measured and I can just slip under. It's worth a shot, right?"
The bridge notices all.
And God said I shall christen thee as dictator over all thy who are sinners of stupidity.
And so it was done.
I love this bridge!
Hope turned into Nope.
The truck said 'hope'. But the bridge said 'nope'.
Scott Warner roflmao
Aw man, you beat me to it.
Hope turned into Dope.
Hope turned into dopey
As much as I'd like to make fun of the driver I can't help thinking that this is exactly the kind of stupid thing I would do myself.
The truck says HOPE,she saysNOPE,the driver must be on DOPE
(12-Nov-19)
And we all know that bridges do not want to ELOPE, even though it is what people sometimes GROPE. Fortunately, the Can Opener Bridge always has a way to COPE.
This is awesome that he stopped and looked first
So gentle, and yet he still managed to hit quite hard.
sikodog I was thinking that he was going to get out and let the air out of his tires.😂🤣😭😂
sikodog, After taking a look, I can almost imagine him saying to himself, "Yea, I think I can hit it!"
After several people honked warnings at him
Looking at the second angle, if the truck had of been next to the right hand gutter, it may have been enough for the truck to clear the beam, due to the camber of the road.
No, dude, there's a reason you were warned...
I hope I can...I hope I can...damn!
holidayhouse03 All these drivers think they're Tootle... "I think I can, I think I can..." But the "I thought I could, I thought I could..." comes without making it through unscathed.

*CRASH*
"Well shit."
I think he made sure that it's tall enough so that he can say: Look mum, I'm on the internet
This is one of the craziest ones. At least with the others, they had no clue how tall their vehicle was. This guy KNEW it probably wouldn't fit after checking, but went anyway.
He had hope
I wonder if he hugged the right curb if he would have cleared; that was close!
Even after all that being honked at, still tried! Wow.
Why should you care about other people honking?
Because sometimes the reason they're doing so is important, like in this case.
Other examples would be trying to get a driver's attention to point out a fire or something dragging from the vehicle.
This is why you shouldn't get your hopes up.
I'll show myself out.
Two in one night? Awesome!
It actually looks like he might've made it if he'd tried closer to the edge of the road (you can see that only the left side of the box, which is higher up due to the road's camber, actually hits the crash bar, while the right side slips in just under the bar).
Typical jag off BMW.
ITS CALLED DEMOCRAPS AND LIBERALS YOU CAN SPOT THEM A MILE AWAY!
The Great Steve What's the difference between a cactus and a BMW?? Answer, the cactus has THE PRICKS ON THE OUTSIDE❗🖕👍 LOL!
crazythedon I bet you were thinking of that one while bunper riding an old lady going the speed limit only to aggressively pass her using the left turn lane. WITHOUT a turn signal.
The Great Steve truck driver deserved it
Daniel Francis 10/10
I'm so happy I discovered this channel! I don't know how I got here but it fill me with joy.

you write your dates weird
Just trying to eliminate any ambiguity.
...U.S. military format for dating documents, etc.
To: Surly: I was in the US NAVY 1963-1973. :)
Update: Not sure what to make of "Supa", so troll-blocking him
Thank you for your service! I served in USAF 1972 - 1980.
My point is that to _some_ of us, it's not weird. As you said, this eliminates ambiguity. Thanks, again.
Great to see how the lights and new fancy sign are working. People they have street signs and signals for a reason and not ignore them
You can easily Ignore Facts, when you have HOPE.
he can always HOPE to keep his driver's license
I went through here last week, the new sign is completely gone. can't tell if it was even working here.
FCFordLord it definitely was and was there in the other video he posted today
Ben Tabor I don't see it light up at all in this video. Not sure when they removed it, but I was last through a day or two before this video was uploaded and it was gone.
Wow, didn't realize the road had so much crown until this one. Right lane is definitely the way to go.
At least he was aware of the problem and took some steps to follow the warning. A pity he was wrong, but as opposed to so many others, he tried.
It is HOPE, he had the hope to go. We had the hope to see and hear the crash and someone finally had the hope and another lose all the hope.
All hope is gone for this bridge
On the contrary, the bridge is just fine.
Hey, fancy seeing you here, love your channel 👍
More like HopeLESS, if flashing lights, signs and getting out to look doesn't tell you its too low
When in doubt proceed anyway, damage your truck and block off all lanes of traffic. Just awesome
Finally a driver having enough since to realize this is not going to work I need to have a plan B and do it right now. I don't understand the people that are blowing at him everyone else realizes he can't go that way he's got back up
Guy in the Beemer must be from Massachusetts ...
Smitty Smithsonite or anywhere
She drives a BMW, dont you know they are better then everyone.
LOL!! :D
I'm from Massachusetts and I plussed this comment.
BrettMKW me too
Probably. I grew up in MA and still live here and drivers here are impatient assholes. Outside of their cars they are nice though.
We can only hope that the BMW driver picked up some shrapnel in their tires :)
Best part is he even stopped to take a closer look, and STILL hit the damn thing!
"Vengeance is mine" sayeth the bridge. 😂🤣😂
one more to 118
Stacie Stockman I hope there's a special commemorative crash for 118. Maybe a special message on the sign or something.
A compilation of all 118 crashes set to some cheesy '80s power ballad. Like Every Rose Has its Thorn by Poison or Honestly by Stryper.
Somebody ought to rent a box truck and come at it from the wrong way just to make it super special. And do it right as a train is crossing over the top. Maybe 2 box trucks with 1 coming from each direction!
joeylawn36111 it's probably the only thing that ever could. :)
joeylawn36111 it's probably the only thing that ever could. :)
HE STOPPED. GOT OUT & LOOKED. THEN WENT ANYWAY. I don't want to know why,
At least the driver stopped first and went slowly to avoid a lot of damage.
He delayed a little because he was was believing in a hope and a prayer that he could make it through.
THIS VIDEO RESTORES MY HOPE IN HUMANITY.
This is exactly what hope will get you if you let it guide you in life.
"the risk I took was calculated but man, I am bad at math"
Lon Seidman brought me here. This channel is gold!
looks like the top of that box corner was patched before... repeat offender?
They keep changing drivers but its the same truck
They should add flashing lights and an airhorn that won't stop until the truck goes elsewhere!
Also, they should add two weatherproof large LCD displays with loudspeakers on both banks. Whenever a truck hits, the loudspeakers will start blaring circus music and the displays will start playing videos of dancing clowns, cymbal clashing monkeys, a row of trained elephants all sitting down, fireworks, gilded ladies standing upright on moving horses, etc., etc.
1:17 HAd to be a BMW driver, always some of the worst driving and rudest drivers on the road. They think they're the only ones on the road.
This guy took a long time to hit the bridge and I feel like the honking motorists were warning him.
carschmn yeah cause the sign said he was overheight there is a sign there that illuminates when it detects a overheight vehicle
I love this bridge, wish we had one like it 😄
I'm with you. But only because I just calculated that my motorhome would fit under a bridge like this one.
Maybe the sign should simply say "If these lights are flashing, you *will* hit this bridge"
Drivers will take the positive statement as a direction and they'll defy the direction by going another direction and so not hitting the bridge. ;)
It’s a metaphor for life. If something has caused you to stop and think, is this a good idea? Will I fit? Should I try a different option? Than it’s a pretty good clue that you should probably not creep forward just to make sure the damage is gonna happen.

Two videos in one day? How far apart were these IRL?
This one was today. #116 was Tuesday.
yovo68, I have a proposition. In the compilation, your description mentioned a question about raising the bridge.
But what about lowering the road?
Monster Society omfg you can't lower the road because there is a pipe line thing that is also 100 years old and costs to much to fix
I feel like this showed up in my algorithm so that I would give my hometown a break
This never get,s old ...
I wish there wasn't any warning signs. I miss seeing fuck ups every week.
The road is irritating, significantly higher in the middle than on the sides. He still has Hope.
He didn't loose his job
truck already has a patch in the same spot! 0:47
I noticed that too! LOL!
Maybe, it was the same bridge.
Don't worry when you try and try, there's always HOPE
None of the camera angles show it...was the OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN sign on?
The TLAR method: "That looks about right." Also, hope is not a strategy.
I love how he stopped to check and then was like yup were good. SLAM
I had high hopes for this one... A little to high i suppose..
Anyone notice his door just about got smashed when he got out to see if the coast was clear?
Watching a truck marked "HOPE"being nibbled at by the bridge was rather satisfying.
You'd think that sooner or later they might even see the videos on UA-cam.
"am i small enough? Yes? Okay. going."
*Hits bridge*
You can definitely tell the road must have some kind of a slope that it only got the left side.
driver : I got hope
bridge : nope
I love this channel.
I'd say this truck was aptly labelled... this one had hope because it actually slowed down and didn't manage to get cut in half or scrap too much off the top
Its always best to complete a risk assessment and never just hope it'll fit.
What could go wrong?
He sure was hoping ;)
Apparently, it's been a long time since I've seen your videos, since I don't remember the traffic light.
When will these drivers understand that they can not and will not ever beat the undefeated can opener.
Will the truck fit? There's only one way to find out
to be fair, he almost did it!!
This isn't horseshoes, hand grenades or nukes. Almost don't mean didly.
Yeah, I know, should be 'doesn't', but I like the way it sounds with 'don't'.
Two in a week? WHAT YEAR IS THIS?? :D
"I'm an expert at eyeballing....yup, It'll fit!"
I'm sure he said what Maxwell Smart would have said: "Missed it by thatmuch!"
Subscribed
might have actually made it if he had stuck to the far right side of the road where it was lower.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Then, he might have gotten hung up if he turned just a little bit, which could have resulted in more damage. That road does slope a little bit, though. It looked like he could have made it if the road was level.
Mia Strong thats the problem, the road not level
Hope he had an understanding boss.
I don't understand why the city or county doesn't just close that segment of road to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic?
This is like a free commercial for HOPE Charitable Services. lol .... HOPE for the best, but the Bridge will hurt you!
If these close escapes keep happening the bridge will bite hard the next time.
If a box truck full of hope won’t get you under nothing will.
That went well....
He did fare much better than most others.
Where is this?
Is this a surreal metaphor for my last job interview?
this is a great way to advertise a business
„I hope it fits...I hope it fits...“
„NOPE!!!“
I hope I can make it under the bridge. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.
If the road wasn't slightly slanted he would've made it
The BMW driver had just ordered the Ombre Pink Drink at Starbucks (via his app) and therefore could not afford the luxury of a brief delay at this intersection.
Nice that the driver didn't abandon Hope.
For a second there, that "hope" turned into "nope"
He was warned, by signs and others, he came out to check. But no, let's go anyway.
I like how he stopped, looked at the bridge and THEN went forward and bumped the bridge.
He needed more than hope.
“Do we have enough hope?”
“Dunno. Run it by Gregson and check.”
Some time later.
“Yep, the bridge confirmed it. Hope is high enough.”
That guy didn't pray hard enough.
Hope is not a plan but at least his truck wasn't turned into a flat deck.
