@reggin_spelt_backwards that was a long time ago already. Being acquired by a Chinese company doesn't necessarily mean quality will tank. But if Trump increases tariffs it could mean that for all brands who import into the US.
I love the artistry of fashion, but the most interesting part is how people engineer the construction, esp when it’s very good. I live in Montana & like to spend a lot of time outdoors even in the winter - these details make a huge difference for me, really badly made sportswear is a true hazzard (omg u can tell I’m Gen X; I’m a great speller but apparently I copy the “Dukes of Hazzard” 😂) here. It’s not just the quality of fabric that determines warmth & blown seams or other “minor” problems can make a garment genuinely dangerous.
@@DomWoodit’s not free. It’s not paywalled but if you look into how advertising platforms work, you’ll understand that we do pay for it, but often indirectly. And even bad reviews of hyper-trendy items will increase sales, but the channel can’t help that people are dumb lol. This is fantastic content that you pay a very low price for, probably indirectly, and it may be a tremendous value to you personally. I’m not shading this channel, just correcting a common economic misperception. It’s just like you did not pay a fee to just watch ABC, NBC, CBS & PBS in 1970 but advertising revenue that viewing consumers generated (by buying things advertised) was the funding base to pay the actors, writers, best boys, catering, hair & makeup, etc. Same way that UA-cam works. Ad revenue pays this channel, but clearly he is willing to deliver much higher quality content than is typical.
This is a great tear down, your channel is just so damn good. I remember when I bought my 1st tech fleece pant were at the $99 CDN mark backing when they were available. And I bought both black and grey pair and they are still holding up for so long.
Really enjoyed your delving into the construction of the material. I grew up sewing for the garment industry back when there was manufacturing in the US and appreciate the time your team takes to educate us all.
Winter gear thrifting video would be a dream come true, but I’d be happy with ANY content in this area. I’m still trying to figure out what makes some fleece so much warmer & how to know before I buy. My LL Bean fleece zip is 2x thinner than my Columbia, but ~1.5x warmer. I have a cheap Hanes hoodie with the old fashioned hood style that blocks wind like an expensive tech hoodie, but those gildan ones (which cost about ¡$50!) to support cultural & scientific resources like state parks and they practically beg the wind to slice through… I use silk base layers a lot but I’d love to be able to find exactly the right pieces at Goodwill or even Tractor Supply
How about Fjällräven? As a a Swed, I know it as an outdoor brand. Then it became a way of showing off how much money you spent on a jacket. I have had two over my years, but I wonder if they are worth the money or not.
I would have liked more commentary on durability and washability. I realize that's not the focus of this channel, but it is a major factor for me in choosing what to buy. Thank you for the great content! The tear downs are awesome and so informational.
2:14 you aren't changing direction so much as changing drape. Making a two dimensional surface into a three dimensional surface. So that way it curves around the knee shape. You see it more in women's clothing, so curve around shapes in women for more fitted woven fabrics. Princess seaming is common in outdoor gear so clothing lies flat.
I am a sewist and I enjoy making my own clothes. I have only been sewing for a couple of years and my skills are okay at best, I am no way near professional seamstress (which is my goal). I sometimes beat myself up for sewing my clothes i.e uneven seems or uneven a lot things. Your channel helps me feel better about my sewing. I mean some dude cough rhude cough fear of god can sell poorly made clothing for thousand of dollars. I should be able to wear my meh made clothes proudly!
Making your own clothes is already impressive! Buuut when you do become that professional seamstress, think of the immense joy and pride you'll have over how much you've improved! 😂
Great video! Would love some Quince teardowns, especially comparing their dupes to the original pricier items. Ex: Merino half zip vs Everlane’s half zip in luxe merino; organic cotton boyfriend crew sweater with Everlane’s boxy sweater in everyday cotton; their cashmere vs. similar styles from Everlane/JCrew/Nordstrom/Eileen Fisher
Love your videos. Suggest doing a teardown of Boss’ Camel Line! For instance, their denim+cashmere jeans. It seems well made with thoughful details, would be interesting to have an expert’s opinion on how it stacks up against other collections that are higher priced lines such as Ralph Lauren Purple Label, or quiet luxury staples including Brunello Cucinelli!
Here is an Idea for a longer video. Compare Patagonia, Columbia and The North Face. Take one similar item from each brand for each category (like t-shirt, fleece, etc.) and compare quality and pricing
Hey. Love the content. I (and maybe others) would be super interested in a head to head comparison/ranking of popular 'quality' brands. Like a video comparing khakis or button downs from Banana Republic v J Crew v Ralph Lauren v Abercrombie, and then you could throw somethin in like Madewell.
It was really interesting hearing you talk about the seams, theres a piece called no seam from yeezy gap that has no visible stitches, it would be cool to see you do a tear down of that piece
I hope to see you do a breakdown/ tear down of the Yeezy Gap balenciaga line. And also the Kanye vision 2020 hoodie. I want to understand why more manufacturers aren’t building items that are double layered.
I remember when the original tech fleece came out initially as a bomber n98 jacket I think. I had it and loved it. But you’re right it loses its elasticity and shape as you wear it. They’re the best track Have been a fan and buyer of it since then. I don’t know if you remember the Tech Knit variant, that was absolute quality. Not sure why they discontinued it. Was amazing.
the bar tack stitch on draw string is a great feature, I've only seen stone island use it on their hoodie before. All you need to do is put the thing in washer once to realize how important it is.
I know he’s going to cut it but the anxiety I feel when he grabs the scissors 🤦♂️😂 I am hooked on this channel - thank you for bringing us regular Joes fashion information that’s interesting 👊
Loved the footage of the marled yarn knit, very educative, shout-out to the editing team for putting in that footage. Jokes aside good vid, i love these breakdowns of apparel
Hey Joe! Los Angeles Archive is releasing old Yeezy/Gap/Balenciaga stuff -- their double layer vision hoodie is one of the best hoodies I have ever owned, thicker than camber/kelsport and with a unique two layer construction and amazing drape. Would love to see a technical breakdown of the Double Layer Vision Hoodie.
@ Joe do the expensive outdoor brands to see if they are worth the money. Like Patagucci aka Patagonia, Arcteryx, Mountain hardware etc would love to see your take and score on some of their more popular items
Does this guy have his own clothing brand? His attention and detail to clothing products is elite. Whatever he would sell I’ll buy knowing the fact his attention to a good product.
Hello, these videos are very interesting, please could you make a video explaining different types of stitches, materials, manufacturing techniques and etc.
Can you do a review/breakdown of the The Barakett Tee from Robert Barakett? I have one and it is my favorite shirt, wanted to know what goes into making something that to me feels like a pretty high quality shirt.
Could you compare the tech fleece with the Lululemon spacer knit hoodie or Anorak. Lululemon’s spacer knit has this unique texture that I’m very curious about. Thanks
Hey, could you do me a favour and review tough duck hoodies please. they're a canadian company that i love and i was wondering what a professionals point of view was
These aren’t cool brands, but what about Lands’ End vs. LL Bean. They used to be similarly priced, but now Lands’ End always has a deep discount. Are they scrimping on quality?
Lets get an essentials budget fit guide. Pocket ts, joggers, socks, etc. Fits under $100 that arent going to pill up and get pit stained in 2 months Edit: I know antiperspirant causes pit stains but... Im a sweater so idk what else to use
Let’s tear down some Arc'teryx staples 👀
Veilance!
Seam sealed jackets is not their expertise. That is among the most complicated of all apparel.
Beta AR
The qualify is about to tank. They were acquired by a Chinese company.
@reggin_spelt_backwards that was a long time ago already. Being acquired by a Chinese company doesn't necessarily mean quality will tank. But if Trump increases tariffs it could mean that for all brands who import into the US.
This channel is such a hidden gem right now
I'm not even that much into fashion, but I find your teardowns and deepdives into craftsmanship so very fascinating
Exactly, the inner nerd in me loves learning this new world of craftsmanship vocab.
it's insane that we get this level of expertise and insight on the internet for free
And the why he explains it in laymans's term is awesome

This channel is criminally underrated I really don't get why they aren't more popular
They're growing quite fast though, I believe?
On TikTok they’re popular
We have to protect Joe @ all cost he’s a gem 💎

Love this channel! Would love a tear-down of a 32 degrees staple (like one of their basic t-shirts)!
Hi @Joe. Would you take us all shopping? I would love to see how you scrutinize the clothes you consider buying 😊

Amazing. I love golf, 4x4 vids. I surprise myself with how I thoroughly enjoy the clothes teardown. Nice going!

I'd love to see some breakdown of some knitwear. I wonder what separates a well and poorly manufactured sweater.

I know you’ve done Amiri jeans but I would like to you see you break down iron heart jeans some of the highest quality Japanese denim.
recommdation to better value alternatives to the techfleece?
I was waiting for that too
Appreciate the videos!! Would love you to tear apart some of Muji’s clothes! They use lyocell in some of their staples, which is interesting!

Love your descriptions and explanations. I look a lot closer at how things I want are made 😀

Did some footage get cut at 4:24?
Or maybe footage wasn’t added in editing
Clearly someone at editing looked over something
Possibly this guy is cutting everything up.
Can you do Ralph Lauren polos?

very well explained! tech designer here!
It was really interesting hearing you talk about the seams, theres a piece called no seam from yeezy gap that has no visible stitches, it would be cool to see you do a tear down of that piece
Would be great if you could cover Polo Ralph Lauren.
I hope to see you do a breakdown/ tear down of the Yeezy Gap balenciaga line. And also the Kanye vision 2020 hoodie. I want to understand why more manufacturers aren’t building items that are double layered.

Tech fleece is a hood classic. 😂
I'd love to see you tear down anything from ACRONYM, the king of techwear. Their cuts seem incredibly unorthodox and complicated.
Do Pop Flex leggings.
Best channel with great explainer and best editing and camera shots
