@@cathleenwarner1778 yeah early on Benton didn't seem like he cared about Carter much. But season 6 they really showed how much he cared. Several scenes overtly showing it.

You could tell how much pain that Carter had when he was talking to Lucy's mom, he lied to her that Lucy didn't feel any pain for the sake of the mother.
What always confuses me is the fact that they save his kidney here but in Season 15 he said something about how he only had one kidney after this or something like that and it was destroyed by an infection, leading to his need for a new kidney at the end of the show.
Carter and Benton is the very best writing and acting that we can do as a society. This was the best duo in television history. The love and respect and admiration that they have for each other is the very reason we can feel emotions. ER redefined television
Benton at 0:45, 'Too many vessels are injured', you can hear it in his voice, he's about to cry over Carter's condition, he loves his little brother a lot
@@Jessica-tf4ez Nope, remember Carter was just a medical student when Benton was a resident. You don't call someone who is also in training teacher officially. It would be much more accurate to say "brother in arms" since they were both training in the medial trenches together.
He just stopped and realized that if Lucy was alright Benton would have told him by now. And he just knew she was dead. The acting on this show was unbelievable
I always thought that Carter looking off to the side after realizing that Lucy was dead was sort of a subconscious turn of his head to the last place he had seen Lucy alive: when he got rolled to his left down in the ER and saw Lucy (to his left) on the gurney in the other room and was told she was still alive. Not sure if that was the intent, but that is always how I read the scene. One of the most wrenching hours of TV I’ve ever seen.
Anspaugh was an underrated character. Was he a hardass most of the time? Yes but i don't think he was just an ass to be an ass. I think he always meant good, had the right intentions. He DID let Carter switch specializations, after all!

The amount of subtlies that this show had, especially in this particular arc - is amazing. There are so many wonderful little things all over this scene pack that when you see them - you appreciate ER for what it really was. And the fact that Carter carries the guilt that he survived and Lucy did not through the entire show is very excellent writing.
He picked up immediately about Lucy when Benton skipped the question! They knew each other too well by now and his treatment is picking up and he is oxygenating OK. Silence nd pauses are more potent when the script and the acting are as good as these. With bad scripts even good actors are made to scream and over act.
Benton realized he was the young bull during Carter’s surgery. Also, that was great foreshadowing when Peter offers Carter morphine right before he comes to the realization that his friend is dead. Such a complex series.
Until this episode, you never knew Benton actually cared for Carter. At least I didn't. I knew he at least respected him. But seeing him get so emotional over Carter possibly dying was so heartwarming to see.
Some of the best parts of ER was Benton acting like he didn’t care but actually loved Carter and there are certain moments throughout the show where we see it like this episode or when he goes to rehab and when Benton leaves
Carter noticed Benton not answering the question when he asked about Lucy. He knew Benton avoided because he didn't wanna tell him at that moment. And his face becomes devastated and his face turns to the direction he last saw Lucy on the ground, stabbed and bleeding to death
To be fair, you hear about a lot of violence towards medical staff these days. I dont understand these riots where people throw rocks and stuff at ambulances or get in the way of healthcare personal (or fire fighters). Like what are you trying to achieve by attacking people who are there to help? Your an asshole at best, a murderer at worst (by either killing health staff or by preventing them from saving somebody else). The amount of news where health workers are being harassed is just not normal anymore. I wished people who attacked health workers got thrown into jail, got forced into anger management theraphy and stay locked up untill a psych evaluates them as stable and undangerous to human kind.
