This is a monster live performance of The Association's greatest tune. Number 1 for weeks back in the day. Was a high school senior when it was released. A good buddy of mine, Jerry Sorce, would play his guitar and sing the hell out of this song. I went to college, he went to Nam, and we never reconnected. He was killed in a car crash in Brick, NJ, on my wedding day, Saturday, 11/8/75 and I have never forgiven myself for not inviting him. Forty years later, and with a new wife and two wonderful daughters now nearly your age, Jerry, you are still Cherished.
Annbosguy ..he is still in your heart and appreciates your love of him and this song..no worries for and holds no disappointment for the invite..he was meant to touch your heart now.
Hi, Paul, Just saw your kind comment. Thanks. Except last evening when having dinner with my grown and gone girls, Jerry popped in my mind again, and I thought that if I had only done that simple thing, he would have had the chance to have lived a long life. Thanks again for the very kind sentiment.
TB it’s a LOT harder to pull this song off than people would think. I do lead and rhythm guitars and lead and harmony vocals. I must have butchered this song 22,000 ways. “Cherish” is as hard as an easy song gets! LOL
I just learned some of the chords on piano and realized I couldn't sing the bom, boms at the same time. They're in a different meter or something of that nature. That's what creates the magic in music. Hard to sit down and write, it has to just happen while the group is working out the song.
Actually, David Cassidy had a hit with Cherish years after The Association did. His version is beautiful. But the two versions are completely different.
@@TBBrickYT you know...there is no reason for anyone to bash another artist like that. If you don't like a particular genre or artist, band, etc...just keep in mind that other people do. I was a kid when this was a big hit. I had lots of crushes I had no nerve to approach. Decades have gone by and now I can let myself feel and understand.
These songs remind me of my childhood, the simple times and living in a rural KS town barely having 190 people. I liked this song when new. I was age 6 in 1966.
yea I see he passed this year, that too bad he was a ground breaker, being one of the first rock stars of asian decent, and a time when there still were not tons of bands with people of differant cultural decent, save for maybe sly and the family stone and the association, that is all that come to mind right now but while sly and family stone were mostly african american, you had greg erico the drumer and jerry martini for example.
my brother was flying from dallas to shreveport and he sat next to larry ramos and his brother and said they were awesome guys- they had to bring their guitars and ams on american airlines- he got free tickets for him and his wife grrrr but none for me- he said they were amazing
mike mikovich thats a nice story, must have been great, maybe you will be the lucky one next time hehe. I would not mind seeing this guys in concert if they ever tour again but I dont know now that larry past away, though they did play at the university of St Frances in Fort Wayne 2 years in a row about three years ago, had to work though, but as you see my videos I did see the beachboy, and they were just as good as they ever were, age has been much kinder to the origionals, then other singers like sir paul mcartney, and christopher cross who can still play but sounds nothing like he used to.
I was one of the very lucky ones to see all of The Association, together, in their heyday, in person, shortly before the tragic death of their wonderful bass player Brian Cole. It was an evening at Asbury Park, NJ that many who were there will remember always, for sure. So glad to see Brian's son Jordan continue on with the group for so many years with his fabulous vocals and keyboard playing. He has a very fine voice which I wish had been used more often in recent years. They were a one in million group with some of the most memorable and endearing hits that we all still hear today where ever we go!! That says something!! Its so nice that we can all see them when ever we want - thanks to kind and generous posters on UA-cam. Many many thanks to all the Association members, living and passed away, for all the wonderful music and happiness you gave us all in some very troubled times.
As far as I know, the only performed in Asbury Park one day (8/3/68). I was at the earlier concert that day, my ticket was a 16th birthday gift. My friend, who was 15 at the time, was with me. We had the amazing luck to meet Jim and Terry while they were strolling on the Boardwalk before the show. It was an awesome day, and I remember it like yesterday.

I was there too at the early show, sixth row center, and they sounded just great! This was my first rock concert, I had high expectations, and The Association did not disappoint. It was a wonderful time to be young and innocent!❤ It all seems like yesterday, how did we get to 2023 so fast! To all those amazing memories and days we thought would last forever!❤
I love music, my sister and I used to play records and use our hair brushes for microphones but neither one of us wanted to be rock stars, she became a pharmacist and I became a Funeral Director, we sang all through school so did my brothers, but none of us tried to make a career out of it
The part where they finish with “gaze into you eyes” and then all launch into the chorus, if that doesn’t move you, then you have no soul. I think today’s audience would go into a wild applause as they start that chorus. Not sure whether I like the audience back then just taking it in, or today where they would show appreciation on the spot for the incredible harmony.
Cherish is one of the few songs that somehow matches the sensibility of Yesterday, by the Beatles. It's both raw and sensitive. I have yet to hear a song, even in 2021, that matches its beauty.
I was 16 in 1966. In a single, cold winter’s night a dj in California played “Remember” written by Jules and sung by Jim, and I was hooked. A couple of hours later, my little 4x6 radio still jammed between my ear and my pillow, I heard Terry singing his “Enter The Young.” That song wired me up. Those cold nights when a radio broadcast would bounce from California to Alabama, yeah. I went to Sears-Roebuck the next day after school and bought the lp for $1.75 - took the salesman about five minutes to find the record while he kept asking me “Is this another one of those bands from England?” That night “Cherish” and “Along Comes Mary” broke out with endless requests to local stations and the next day you couldn’t find that lp anywhere in town. If the original band recorded it, I have it, and when I play The Association, all my neighbors know.
My former wife and I met Larry Ramos on white bird mountain Rt. 95 in ID in 2000 after we ended up in a southbound runaway ramp we lost our brakes and had no control over the fully loaded 18 wheeler we were driving he was super nice with us very concerned, caring and compassionate, he called the state police and remained with us for several hours. he then drove us to a motel in grangeville I knew who he was but my wife didn't We thanked him and never mentioned anything to him about his celeb status. RIP LARRY we could have died on that mountain if it weren't for you.

😢
Hi, Paul, Just saw your kind comment. Thanks. Except last evening when having dinner with my grown and gone girls, Jerry popped in my mind again, and I thought that if I had only done that simple thing, he would have had the chance to have lived a long life. Thanks again for the very kind sentiment.
Go.... Yes, it still hurts. Great guy. My bad.
@@Annbosguy "Dont cry that it ended, smile that it happened" ...Your friend's death was meant to happen the time it did. just be glad for the memories
This song I like very much , ,because bring me remembers of My Childhood in the 60's.
Terrific to see the Association sing Cherish live. As others have said, Cherish is musically technical. No wonder there's never been a cover.
@@renaskinner1653 Many thanks! I will look it up. But, I expect it was a Cherish for Dummies version. 😉
@@TBBrickYT you know...there is no reason for anyone to bash another artist like that. If you don't like a particular genre or artist, band, etc...just keep in mind that other people do. Everyone has their own individual taste. And we have freedom of speech. But that comment seems pretty snarky to me.
This is one of the most difficult songs to do live, while sounding like the original recording. They do a good job.
One of my favorite tunes when I was in high school - really takes me back!
This never gets old....our generation of music spoke to so many hearts, both happy and sad!
I’ve been listening to Chicago since I was 15 in 1970
They are still great to listen to in 2024
Larry Ramos RIP, thank you for the songs and memorizes. Aloha
yea I see he passed this year, that too bad he was a ground breaker, being one of the first rock stars of asian decent, and a time when there still were not tons of bands with people of differant cultural decent, save for maybe sly and the family stone and the association, that is all that come to mind right now but while sly and family stone were mostly african american, you had greg erico the drumer and jerry martini for example.
my brother was flying from dallas to shreveport and he sat next to larry ramos and his brother and said they were awesome guys- they had to bring their guitars and ams on american airlines- he got free tickets for him and his wife grrrr but none for me- he said they were amazing
mike mikovich thats a nice story, must have been great, maybe you will be the lucky one next time hehe.
Brings back wonderful memories of my college days. Thanks for the memories.
I was in junior high (I am old) and this song was playing all the time.
What a great arrangement!
Excellent. They were still able to hit those high notes and chorus very nicely. Sounds great
Wow !!! Amazing song of my youth !!!!! The great legends of the past !!!
Brian Cole was a brooder. He was on a slightly higher plane/plain than most.
Wish he were still here. What art he could have brought to the world.
@@gilmangus83 That describes Brian perfectly . You could tell he was different. A highly intelligent talented man such a waste. I wish he was still with us too.
@@bethcook7917 I was there at that show too! You were so fortunate to meet those guys. I had the privilege of talking with Jim and Russ after a performance on their reunion tour on February 28, 1981 at the Keystone in Berkeley, CA. I've loved a lot of bands over the years, but The Association will always have a special place in my heart.
I was there too at the early show, sixth row center, and they sounded just great! This was my first rock concert, I had high expectations, and The Association did not disappoint. Except there was no encore, so maybe the early show was running late. Still, it was highly memorable night. I even took some good pictures.
WOW! That was f**king great!!! Tough song to get through live and the band nailed it!!!
Even in 2023, still a favorite of mine
I don't care who you are, that's pretty cool right there.
They sound as good as they did a decade earlier, I sit here mouthing every word with perfect memory, although I've lost my singing voice, I just go with it appreciating the feeling it brings to remember singing it to their record countless times. Thanks for uploading this!
RIP Terry. Such a beautiful song.
beautiful romantic classy song
Although this is live in 1979, this was originally released by them in 1966! I remember hearing this being played on our AM radio in the car! It was a wonderful time to be young and innocent!❤
It all seems like yesterday, how did we get to 2023 so fast! To all those amazing memories and days we thought would last forever!❤
This is great sounding music. You would think that the world would be a better place with music like this around.
I've always loved this song. It's got it's own style.
Cherish is one of the few songs that somehow matches the sensibility of Yesterday, by the Beatles. It's both raw and sensitive. I have yet to hear a song, even in 2021, that matches its beauty.
It's that tragic unfulfilled longing most of us suffer from.
@@Spiritgumm Only God can fill that longing.
Clifford IMHO Cherish blows Yesterday away.
Cherish is definitely
up there. How about
some of Crosby
Stills Nash & Young?
One of the greatest and underrated.
Awesome! I love the Association and I was born in 1976, good music never dies
It was way before 76
It was from 1966
romantic song then and now...RIP to Terry Kirkman...
They were still awesome. 💖
L O U D !
fantastic live version
AMAZING. This is even better than when they first sung it about 13 years earlier.
My former wife and I met Larry Ramos on white bird mountain Rt. 95 in ID in 2000 after we ended up in a southbound runaway ramp we lost our brakes and had no control over the fully loaded 18 wheeler we were driving
he was super nice with us very concerned, caring and compassionate, he called the state police and remained with us for several hours.
he then drove us to a motel in grangeville
I knew who he was but my wife didn't
We thanked him and never mentioned anything to him about his celeb status.
RIP LARRY we could have died on that mountain if it weren't for you.
RIP Terry Kirkman. Lots of awesome talent. TY
They don't make songs like this anymore. Fantastic
