I played this game basically since day one on the xbox release, no matter what they do, this game will always be lagging and buggy. Kind of adds to the charm of the game, it's a super fun game when you're starting out but turns into a second job before you know it. For anyone who wants to try this game out, take it as slow as you can and just explore

i played 500 hours on this pve server and i spent the first 100 just enjoying and playing the game and somehow spent the other 400 grinding hundreds of thousands of every material and grinding over powered dinos until i got bored
The reflection thing you mentioned is because the game uses SSR (Screen Space Reflections) for its water reflections, basically it renders the scene and then projects those rendered fragments onto the surface of the water to give you a reflection. Upshot of this is it can only reflect things that are on the screen anyway. At the sides of the screen the reflection would go off the edge of the screen so it gets filled with some default colour (in this case white by the looks of things). If you wanted to reflect things that are not already rendered on the screen you would have to use dynamic cube mapping or raytracing, both of which are far more computationally expensive.
@@blax722 @Blax722 Unless I'm missing something the doc page doesn't mention any fixes ("UE 5.0 Reflections Environment" doc page) And I might be wrong but unless you use a different reflection method altogether (think planar reflections in UE) there is no fix for this problem (except for rendering around the screen and cropping the final image which is obviously not ideal)

Oh my God you share my feelings exactly. Every time I play a survival game like Minecraft I always get really bored once it's easy to actually survive. I always love the parts at the beginning where you're just struggling to make ends meet and stay alive. And then after you have a house and a freaking endless supply of crops and an entire Armory full of weapons it gets a little boring for me
Yeah it helps to know how to create your own objectives and/or goals in order to truly play a game like Minecraft long term. But hey, some people aren't able to do that which is cool. It helps for them to have a game tell you what else to do like a follower unlike a leader. Nonetheless a great point Captain.
Because when you first start out you have nowhere to go but up, you continue to make improvements one after the other and it makes you feel really good about yourself but as the game goes on the accomplishments become fewer and further apart.
The explore mode for kids is really a great addition. On the the things I love about Assassins Creed Origins was that you could explore the ancient cities and get real historical information.

I bought ark about 2 years ago even after checking the reviews for the game everyone said it was horrible. I played on pc and iOS iPad and Xbox series x and loved it, but the switch version was horrible I played for almost 20 hours and took the game out and traded it in at GameStop after almost a year cause after a year with no fix I figured the game was doomed. Thank you for the great review of the fixing and thank you to the developers that fixed it. So now I need to figure out if I want to spend another $50 bucks on it I wish that they would make it that since I own it on Xbox I coupd have it on Nintendo lol

I've been wanting to play Primitive Plus on Xbox for years and they said they are no longer supporting the mode or something and basically aren't going to fix it, especially with ARK II so close. Pretty much the only map you can play Primitive Plus on now with Xbox is Ragnarok and like Valgureo.....and that's about it. It's unplayable on any other map.

I have been playing ARk on Switch a lot since the update... while it is improved in an overall general sense... as of last night, there are still problems with the multiplayer servers... a recent patch was made to address some issues, one of which includes server crashes because of trying to execute a particular engram move in game... the problem is still happening, and probably worse than ever... the server crashes almost every few minutes because of people who are not aware, or trolls or both.
As part of the ark community, I humbly say welcome to ark and can't wait to see how your story turns out. That being said I have to let you know that the giant flying stones are called obelisk and they can be use to teleport to different maps like scorched Earth to island so you don't have to make a new character each time. (sorry to be that guy but I like to help). And I like to say I can't wait to get it on my switch and play. The switch seems a whole lot easier than the server I play on. The max dino level is 850 for non tek dino and with ridiculous spawn rates for alphas and carnivores. It's call a Doom map for a reason
You should of been there on release day in 2015 on pc... it was also unplayable like the old switch version, I was so bummed about it but they soon fixed it and ive been playing it off and on since
When ARK came out on PC it was just as rough, very low FPS, really stupid dino interactions etc. But props to them for continually improving it (even though it still has so many issues, even today).; a friend and I have sunk so many hours into it, there's always something to do.
Scorched earth you need to build an adobe shelter with a door and if you put windows in shutters. Then get a Jerboa knock it out with a boomerang and make it your pet and carry it around when it starts chattering get inside it's a heatwave or dust storm. Hope that helps!
Quick tip if you're still playing on Scorched Earth. Levelling your fortitude will both make you more resilient to extreme temperatures and it also makes you wake up faster when you get knocked out.
The fact that they were able to go back through it and polish it up to such an extent that it's enjoyable, not just 'playable' but enjoyable on the switch is an absolute feat. Considering how bad the new pokemon games are running. This is amazing. Now if only they would do the same thing for ark on PC. [if only to reduce that sheer ridicules 300GB filesize a bit.
I already own ark for the ps4 but I have to share the ps4/tv with the rest of the family so having it on the switch and be portable would be a game changer for me. I know I can play it on my phone but I don't game on my phone. I'm totally adding this to my wish list for the future. I checked and the price isn't even that bad compared to the $60 I paid originally, it's like around $35 ish at my Walmart and on Amazon.

quick guide to ARK: gather everything. build thatch until you run out of resources, repeat. Dont build a base in thatch or wood, always build in stone. dont build on the beach. get a flyer as early as possible. pteras are useful early on but argents and wyverns are the best transports. get a couple of starter dinos like trikes, stegos, raptors, sarcos, but dont waste your time on them. focus on getting Tek Rexs and Gigas. you dont Need a greenhouse but it is fun. farming mantis is the fastest way to get polymer. farming beaver dams is the best way to get cementing paste, always destroy the dam or it will never respawn with new resources. 700 hours in a game is generally a lot of playtime. i had 700 hours in beta and knew extremely little about Ark. close to 3k hours now and im still learning things. the best thing you can do to enhance your ark experience is play with mods. stacker mod. awesome teleporters and spyglass. dino storage v2. improved flyers. auto recovery. try hosting a private server. turn everything up to 100. Trust Me.
Wow! Can't believe the studio wanted you to re-review the game! That's so cool! Ark is a really fun game, it's jank AF, but the core is still a good game.
Oh buddy, if you actually delved off into this game, you'd see just how involved it really is. It is such a complex game. Taming dinosaurs, breeding them, building a compound. Exploring, boss fights. Theres soooooo much to it! Been gaming forever and this is by far one of my favorites of all time.
It's great that they're fixing the Switch version, I know a lot of people have been waiting on that (even though I think Ark is best enjoyed on PC with a few QoL mods lol). The people behind Ark has to deal with such a toxic playerbase, but they have poured so much work and love into the game over the last years. Can't wait for Ark 2 next year! - Also agree that the starting phase is the best in survival games 🦖 As someone who has a whole lot 🙈of hours of Ark, it's a shame that the game isn't really the best straight out of the box. Because besides the official server mess and buggy gameplay it's a really good game with an interesting lore and so much to do, not to mention a great soundtrack. I really wish they could have updated the settings and made it more user friendly, because there is a whole bunch of settings to make the game tailored to your likings.
Finally, my time has come, I will now proceed to buy a switch only to play this wonderful game and all DLCs once more again. It will be fun to see you pass all bosses with your friends, It is quite a challenge, specially in Alpha.

Yeah, this is in all Unreal games that use SSR. HOWEVER, Unreal 5.1 came out like a week ago and among other things they fixed it.

I just checked it out on the eShop. You don't have to spend 50 bucks but you could if you want all the dlc. The base game is 20 bucks.

You have mentioned before you don't entirely hate it but from what I recall a game that plays it's self tends to loose points. That's not unfair.
