I use a porcupine quill to lift fibres from the teeth on the drum. I believe that the doffer tool can damage both the cloth and the tines. The batt is absolutely dreamy and I love the way the colours blended. I love alpaca fibre 🥰🥰🙏🏼
I'm a spinner and here's a tip. To remove your finished batt from the large drum, (and to clean both the drum and licker after you're finished), use a metal tined hair brush cleaning tool to loosen it as you go, and this will change your world.
Is alpaca fiber hollow? I’ve heard people are now selling socks made from hollow fibers. Is that true in all wool that it’s hollow or is it only alpaca? I don’t do any of this. My daughter is a is a whiz at all of this stuff, she spins her own and she needs a carding machine. I am teetering with the idea of building one and so your video is part of my research, but it looks amazing.

How much fiber can this carder hold?
The biggest I’ve made so far are 7oz batts 😱
