    After I sold my Big Tom XL carder from Fancy Kitty, I really missed making those giant batts, so I ended up buying an Extra Wide Brother Motorized drumcarder. I hope this review can help you decide if this is the right carder for you, or help you with it AFTER you already have one at home!

    How appropriate - a red hot batt for your first project on a red hot drum carder! Thanks for doing the demo and sharing some of your experiences with the Brother customer support. I’ve actually had my eye on them for a couple of years now as my preferred go-to drum carder company. I’m probably a little biased toward them, though, because I live in Washington, and they’re based in Oregon! I’m pleased to hear that your experience with them was so good! Makes me feel good about my instinct (LOL). I hope you get many hours of enjoyment from your drum carder, Trish, and I’m sure we all look forward to seeing what you produce with it! Take care!

    I have the Big Brother too. I run the large card at max and the take up card at about 30% and it works great. Being able to just pull a pin and have the drum spin free is great when making roving right off the carder using a diz. Great features.

      I really like it! My one and only complaint is that a lot of fiber build up on the licker unless I use commercially processed fiber. My Strauch has a different kinds of cloth on the licker and it doesn't build up at all.

    • @missioncreekfarm7715
      @missioncreekfarm7715 3 роки тому +1

      @@FiberLoveDiary It won't build up if you don't pull back on the fiber as it goes in. Also, if your fiber is not well picked, it will build up and put a lot of wear and tear on your carder. I pulled the trigger and bought the triple picker (swing picker) from brother, and man, the fiber (now a cloud!) goes into the carder beautifully and no build up, pulls or the large drum like a dream. Worth every penny. So how the fiber is washed and picked makes a world of difference.

      It was honestly a little hard to decide, but I don't regret going with Sherry's recommendation. Maybe someday I will have both. The true dream for me is his cottage mill size carder. I'll never have space, and it'll never happen, but dreaming is fun.

    That's a gorgeous batt! This is a dream machine! I have a Louët 72tpi, and I'm not able to get the smoothness I'd like with 19 micron merino. So much information here (thank you!). I'd love an electric carder.... Hmmm. 90 tpi. So to process a finer fiber on 72 tpi, I should crank slowly? I'm so impatient! Lol. Thanks for the video.

    Thank you for this amazing video -- a friend of my just got it and we were trying it out. She is not happy how much of her premium merino (18/19 micron) and premium angora (about 4" staple length) sticks to the intake drum. I noticed yours also had a "lot" of fibre stuck on there. Is this normal? Or have you figured out how to eliminate that much waste?

My hand crank Brother handles my minimally prepped fibers ( hubbie helps to crank as it is challenging at times for me).Do you know of a really tough workhorse type electric drum carder that can handle minimally prepped fibers? I haven't had the opportunity to try every brand, but i believe Strauch makes the toughest I've ever seen. The batts are smaller than the ones i get from the Brother, but that's why i kept my Strauch. I think it is very tough and the man that makes them took the time to talk to my husband about mine even though i bought it used. That's what I'd get if i were in your shoes ❤.
