Just wanted to say in case you missed it, The Walkmen watched part of your video on their official Facebook/Instagram page. Recognised this video straight away!
Your skills are truly inspiring, the song itself is amazing. Someone already mention your epic move at 4:02, I can keep rewatching this part forever, I had to watch in slow motion to see how you have done it. Thank you for being my inspiration to learn to play drums.
Excellent job on an absolutely cracking tune! Groove, feel, fills, phrasing, timing, sound bang on. I had the privilage of supporting The Walkmen twice. Back stage the were amused by how giddy I was around them. Sublime band. I even introduced them to the promoter of Irelands biggest indie Festival Electric Picnic, so they played that festival. Well done Dude. Superb job and choice!
Amazing job bro. I dont know how the drummer in the band played this for so long as it was a hit. 'Can you tell me if this is one of the most challenging drum parts to play. I always liked the drum part for David Bowies look back in anger. Can you cover that if you ever have the time. You are an exceptional drummer. And i dont use the word exceptional lightly.
I've seen live performances of the song and slowed it down and from what I've seen there are 14 hits played in the main fill, not including the crash cymbal at the end. The fill is as follows: Snare, Snare, Tom, Snare, Snare, Snare, Snare, Tom, Snare, Snare, Floor Tom, Snare, Snare, Snare. There are two versions of the fill though - both versions are pretty similar except he adds two extra Snare hits at the beginning of the fill on some occasions. In these instances, instead of waiting for the Kick Drum to cue in the fill like he does in the majority of the song, he starts the fill on the Kick Drum creating a 16 hit fill as opposed to the usual 14 hit fill. These instances occur twice at the beginning during the intro and again when the music dies down during the bridge and the drummer plays the intro again. So, basically when he's rolling on the hi-hats he's playing the14 hit fill. When he's not, like during the intro and the bridge, he plays the 16 hit fill with the two extra Snare hits at the beginning starting on the Kick Drum. Hope this explains it for you.
@@EminentKnight oh damn! Yeah thank you. I guess it doesn't matter per se but I'm assuming he's playing alternate singles and not throwing a weird double in there?
@@jdion79 Yup all singles from what I've seen. He plays the first Tom with his right, the second Tom with his left and then the Floor Tom with his right before finishing off with the cymbal - again with his right. All singles.
@@EminentKnight thank you so much! as a "drummer" i should be able to tell but man, his fills have so much character it was hard for me to believe they were all singles.
Only person I can find on youtube that is crazy enough to cover this one. LOL! Well done!
haha thanks!
With a smile on his face. That’s the most important thing. X
