CP + KCS gives one road tracks in Canada, US, and Mexico. Through CP there are Atlantic and Pacific ports. KCS has access to Chicago, KC, St. Louis, Birmingham, New Orleans port, the port of Port Arthur and the port of Corpus Christy, the ports of Tampico and Veracruz on the Gulf of Mexico, Monterrey, Mexico City, and the port of Lazaro Cardenas on the Pacific.
CSX merged Pan Am Railways last year. So, Guilford which consisted of Springfield Terminal, Maine Central, Boston and Maine, and Portland Terminal are now part of CSX.
Union pacific also has routes from Canada to Mexico, and I think BNSF also has some routes. the special thing about CP and KS merging is they go from I think the hot bed of Canada in Ontario all the way to Mexico city through St.Louis. Union Pacific and BNSF do this through subsidiaries in Mexico while CPKC can do it all in house.
One huge gut punch that hurt the railroads beginning in the 1950’s came from a source that might seem harmless. The emergence of the “family car” put a crippling financial drain on the business of passenger trains.

The chrome and tail fins murder the railroad industry along with airports and planes to whatever wanted to go.
Tail fins and chrome m_rder railroads along with planes.
US: Merger
UK: British Railway
If the US did that nothing would move. It would be run by political hacks. 😂
