Technique id like to share: if you take that premixed tamiya panel liner and apply it over acrylic mud after it dries, you can make selections of mud that look wetter than others.

I think it would also work with a regular enamel wash or diluted oil paint :) Tried it a few times in the past.

Hey Nightshift! After watching you for months now I was finally willing to go and get my first armour model :D So now I've built an ISU-122 from Zvezda, but not without it's mistakes, but I think that comes with the territory of first models. I haven't painted it yet as I don't actually own any paints rn, so I'm waiting for them to come in, but I plan on doing a simple winter camo if I can! I got to say though, I really enjoyed the process of making it, despite my failings in cleaning off seem lines and what not. In any case you're a real inspiration and joy to watch!

How was the build? Was it tough, I have built a Zvezda model before, the Tiger 1 early version, and It was quite a nice build, although my kit also did have some goofs.

@@bruhbird4501 I thought it was pretty enjoyable! There were a few hiccups along the way, but those were namely skill issues. The only issue I had was one of two steps missing from the instructions. But they were easily rectified by just looking at the left over parts and reference photos. But over all yea, it was really enjoyable and easy going! I was recommended the company by a friend big into modelling and he said that Zvezda were generally pretty beginner friendly and I think it's true for the ISU-122.

That's awesome! If I may add up to the ongoing discussion, a winter camouflage might be actually rather difficult if it's your first model. A green vehicle with white invasion stripes from Berlin might be just as visually appealing, but a bit easier to pull off properly. But hey, do your own thing and have lots of fun while you're at it! :)

Nice job. I just bought some AMMO/Mig Turned Dirt, Moist Ground, and Thick Soil. Nice to see you use similar. That lead you have can be put in a holder. I gave a Kaweco and an E+M. Both are 5.6mm. I use extremely soft lead. 4B, I think. The thing is, they keep the lead off my hands and keeps the really soft ones from breaking. You can use different hardness in different lead holders. Since they are friction fit, you can just release the friction and push the lead back up inside. Ready for the next time.

Gotta tell you Uncle, as "ugly" as that tank is, I really appreciate the oddball armor getting some love. It is an interesting subject with those extra panels covering the suspension, like a free extra canvas to practice near ground level weathering that will actually be visible when the model is completed.
On another note, have you heard about Das Werk's upcoming Srurmgeschutz in 1/16?
That's right, one-sixteenth scale. Delivery date so far is December, pre-order price 100 Euros (100 USD in the US). It even has a partial interior, metal barrel and some photoetch.
I am not affiliated, I just saw Andy's Hobby HQ video about it and I'm pretty excited because I may finally be able to build an armor model with my "old guy" failing eyesight. ;>)

The Quackening xD, I think that made my day. Btw, i use the Black track pro (2.0), too. Mine contains HF (Hydrofluoric acid), in small amounts, though it can cause a LOT of damage. Feel free to google the harms if you are not afraid of bones turning into toothpaste (Calcium fluoride) or death from higher concentrations. So PLEASE! next time wear special acid proof gloves or at least gloves on both hands. I know that acid very well from my microtechnology job and want to watch your videos for a long time, uncle. Thank you again for another great video . I have a suggestion for you if you haven't already tried it? Ive been building scale models for over 40 years and recently one of my nephews called me up and asked me if I could show him some techniques. When I asked him what type of model he was working on he told me it's not a model but a store bought transformer toy a re production of the Devastator transformer witch even when I first saw them released in the 80s always thought they looked to toy like . But being that he showed genuine interest I agreed to help him and to my surprise it turned out to be a fun project. I was just thinking that it might be a interesting project for uncle night shift to try ? My nephew has now branched out into customizating and painting all of his toys everything from his matchbox cars to his nerf guns . I turned him on to your channel and you helped another young kid unplug himself from video games and start using his mind lol. Thanks again brother keep it up .

    I have a question though:
I play Warhammer 40K, (I'm sure you're aware of it), and I'm wondering how to apply the techniques you show on a tank from this genre. It might be a completely different project for you, but how do you feel about painting and weathering an Astra Militarum Leman Russ?
Seeing your talents applied to that tank would make me a very happy old man.
