    My father and I had planned on combining his master carpentry skills with my metal working. I start machining and gunsmithing school this fall and sadly I inherited his tools before we got the chance to combine those skills. So, this being one of the many carpentry tools I've never used I find these basic information videos very helpful. Short, sweet and to the point.

    Thank you for your video. Initially I thought I'd have to go out and buy a router capable of plunge cuts, but it appears that surface routing is the technique I'd need to use. Therefore, I should be able to use a router I've had for decades, for the first time. A Sears 150 Model 315.1749. The job... log home window and door rough openings. Constructed from square 8 "x8" hemlock, and I need to accomplish 2 things - cut a 1/4" wide by 2" deep channel up the center of the vertical window and door frames, and then insert a 2" angle iron piece to hold logs plumb. Second task is to cut a 3-4" long 1/4" vertical channel in the sub jamb (window buck), this channel allows me to install a lag bolt, the purpose of the channel is to allow the lag bolt head to slide down the 2"x8" window jamb when the logs eventually dry and shrink up to 3". I believe the surface routing is the correct application, please correct me if I'm mistaken, and thanks again.

    Simple mistake but - Against the rotation is Anti - clockwise! 😬

    • @BrainFizz
      @BrainFizz 3 роки тому

      The “left to right rule” is a commonly quoted one, which is true - as long as you cut the side closer to you, L2R is the bottom section of a full anti-clockwise cut around the entire perimeter of your board - it becomes R2L along the til edge
      Personally I prefer the clockwise/anti-clockwise rule for inside/outside cuts.

    I'm having a problem that the wood piece got little burned, how can I solve this problem?
    Or It can be normal?

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy
      @TrainingHandsAcademy  4 роки тому +4

      Yes, it is normal, and I do plan on making a video about that. It can be from a few different things, but I would say keep an eye on your feed rate. Meaning, if you push the router to slow, the bit and the wood have time to heat up, but if your feed rate is faster, less heat, etc. The other thing you can do is make a final pass that only takes off a very small amount... basically removing the burned part only. Try adjusting your feed rate first and let me know how it goes.

    Which bit is suitable to make a 8inch hole in a plywood? And do u have any tutorial on cutting hole using palm router!

    • @BrainFizz
      @BrainFizz 3 роки тому

      You can cut any diameter hole in your plywood regardless of the thickness. You’ll most easily do it with a straight bit, without a bearing, even with a small palm router.
      Guide the router like a compass, from the centre point.
      Even if the plywood is very thick you can still cut through, with several cuts going progressively deeper each time. No need for a particular diameter bit, just what ever you have.

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy
      @TrainingHandsAcademy  4 роки тому

      Hey Norman! Honestly, I've never routed letters before so I'm not the expert on that subject, but here's my non-expert advise. First, make sure you are always routing in the proper direction like I explained in both router videos... it should reduce kickback. Second, I probably wouldn't use a straight cutter. Look at a bit set that is made for making signs... they normally come with v-grooves and some cove bits. I hope that helps. :)
