Danny (George Clooney) surprises his ex-wife Tess (Julia Roberts) in her new husband's casino.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A rag-tag group of con artists and ex-cons team up for the heist to end all heists in this high-profile remake of the 1960 Rat Pack favorite. As with its predecessor, Ocean's Eleven opens with its titular hero Danny Ocean (George Clooney stepping into the Frank Sinatra role) eager for a new challenge. The similarities to the original end there, as Ocean conspires with his old pal Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) to rob 150 million dollars from an underground vault that serves three of Las Vegas' biggest casinos. Between the two of them, they recruit nine other men, each with his own criminal specialty, to assist in the mission: moneyman Reuben Tishkoff (Elliot Gould), card dealer Frank (Bernie Mac), pickpocket Linus (Matt Damon), aging con artist Saul (Carl Reiner), British explosives pro Basher (Don Cheadle), techie Dell (Eddie Jemison), rude-boy brothers Virgil (Casey Affleck) and Turk (Scott Caan), and professional acrobat Yen (Shaobo Qin). What Ocean doesn't tell the group is that there's another reason he's coordinating the heist: the three casinos they're robbing are all owned by ruthless gambling mogul Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), who just happens to be married to Ocean's former love Tess (Julia Roberts). Ocean's Eleven was updated by scribe Ted Griffin and marked the third feature shot by director Steven Soderbergh under the alias Peter Andrews.

He's ordering two glasses of liquor (whiskey) for himself and the girl to the waiter who came to the table. He knows how much he likes, and since it is his ex-wife, he also knows how much she typically would have for herself. The smile he gave her after he ordered was his body language to her saying, "I know you, even down to small things about you..."

@@johnnieboy66 I don't believe this correct at all. It means he wants two drinks - whiskey on the rocks (or a whiskey and water) and a whiskey straight. Plus, Tess already has a drink, wine, and the waiter is specifically asking hin.
Nearly very line she has in this scene is a big punch to the gut.
This scene is setup like a boxing match.

To me, these are still the lines of the century! All in this scene. "Does he make you laugh?" "He doesnt make me cry" ooooooooooooooooooo-wwweeeeeeee!!! These two give me chills each time i watch this scene in the movie which is spectacular in general. So well done by the actors, writers, director..everyone. Just so good!
george is sad because he knows that "he doesnt make me cry" is a terrible reason to be with someone

Tess demeanor towards Danny, is exactly how every ex of mine has ever talked to me after we broke up. Julia is truly an actress who studies her roles, because she is capturing the soul of every jaded ex out there

Thing I always liked about this scene is they have such a great repartee despite being estranged, hurt, and Tess still feeling very angry and betrayed. And yet they still have this connection, this chemistry that comes out in practically every single line of dialogue.

Best scene in this movie in terms of dialogue, an homage to the classics.
I thought it was the worst, it came across as fake.
Someone once pointed out how unrealistic and cheesy this dialogue is and now I can't unsee it. No one on God's green Earth talks like the way these two are talking. Completely unnatural.

Julia Roberts' acting was horrible in Ocean's Eleven. All of her lines came out as being rehearsed. They weren't believable.
