Let’s just appreciate that Reuben never needed the money on both 11 and 12, in the first movie he joined cause he hated Benedict, and in the second just to help out his friends (and even volunteered to pay Saul’s share) no wonder they all wanted to exact revenge for him in 13

What I love about the start of this scene every time I see it, is that the only thing they are upset about at first is being grouped up as "Ocean's 11" it's that humor I love about these movies

It's in a way a jab at the original because they were called the oceans 11 but most of them were forgettable besides the rat pack here they all have their own personalities that make the film interesting but they get offended for being generalized

It's wonderful storytelling. The whole set up of "Hey, we have a big fucking problem but we're going to pretend like it's something incidental and not the ever tightening grip of certain death pressing down on each of our throats" -- The tension is eased when Rusty, already identified in this very scene as the guy who solves everyone's problems, announces that they're already booked on a flight that will carry them towards their solution. But we dovetail into the next scene with the discovery that there is something that seems pretty ominous in Amsterdam. And, in the end, Rusty nods resignedly and whispers "Don't tell Danny." Because, despite what they said in the beginning, and even with all of their skills, the group is Ocean's Eleven regardless of what people call it, and everyone knows who the fucking boss is.

Livingston is obviously embarrassed to admit he hasn't spent anything and is still living with his parents. Rusty then immediately "bails out" Livingston from the limelight by proudly admitting he's short $25 million. Great juxtaposition!

Did the math a little: Ruben was keeping track of how much everybody owed, with the exception of Saul who Ruben said he would handle how much Saul owed. The only one who you didn’t hear how much he owed was Amazing Yen. Up to this point, the total was $87m. In order for the count to equal $97, that means Yen had to have spent all but $2m of the $13m he had. However, he doesn’t explicitly say how much he owes, he just said that he spent it all on his house (to which Rusty says “Yeah, but it’s a nice place”).

I think it’s hilarious and entertaining that they all understand his lines and the audience is simply left wondering. How generous of him to foot all he stole plus the $8M he somehow made on top of it all. 😅 Cutting into the groups deficit and slightly lightening the debt for all of them. What a team player! 😂

I don't think Ocean's 8 is that bad though either, though its big issue is it seems to not really get what makes the Ocean's movies work. They're fun because they're primarily hangout vibes movies and Ocean's 8 is almost all plot and little character interaction stuff. Which is a shame because its cast, especially Blanchett, Paulson, and Bullock, could have been a lot of fun if the movie was more geared around that than just plot reveals. Blanchett and Paulson especially seem to have a great dynamic together but they never really utilized it in the film.
