I've been to Oahu 10 times and something stands out to me every time I'm in Honolulu and Waikiki and that is just a general peaceful feeling. People are happy and it doesn't feel like a big city. I love that island so much! You can feel the aloha there.

In a tourist area, anywhere in America, super high prices are normal because tourists will buy just about anything….and will usually stay inside the tourist bubble. Eat outside the tourist area, and always have a hotel room with a kitchen so you can cook, or at least save leftovers from takeout in the fridge and eat that for two days… make sure it’s something savory.
Aloha Chris, as a local born and raised (and still) here on Oahu let me tell you that the island is not just Waikiki and has SO MUCH more to offer and many other fun stuff to do than Waikiki! I know you need to do the tourist stuff (which is also fun and I do sometimes myself) but next time you come back venture out to the west side, hit up a "locals" mall "pearlridge shopping center" or even the west side for even more stunning beaches...anyways, another fun and entertaining video my man!
yes, it's great for a local to bring him around the island.. would be much safer for him also.. it's just the prices is the suck thing about hawaii.
Spent 7 days in Waikiki maybe walked around an hour Spent my time cruising the island since I had a car.

I am from the east coast. The flight is so much shorter for me if I go somewhere in the Caribbean (+cheaper) but there is really something about Hawaii that keeps me wanting to go back.
The island speaks to me. It definitely helps reset me back to my calm self when life gets tough and stress from work is creeping up.

I did a solo trip to oahu last year and I loved it. The energy of the place was just so beautiful. I can’t wait to go back
You know what’s crazy, I too have always dreamed of visiting Hawaii but my only point of reference are all the American movies and series etc…as an adult, I tried looking at a few UA-cam vlogs but those mainly focused on the nature aspect of Hawaii. Prior to watching this video, I have never had a clue that Hawaii looks like that and now I’m even that much more intrigued to visit. Thanks for showing us a side to Hawaii that most of us don’t get to see

Hawaii has always been my dream destination from back as a child watching things like cliff diving and surfing on tv. Unfortunately stuck here in a cold and wet England and knocking on a bit, it will probably remain a dream, so i really appreciate your efforts in sharing your visit with us.

I've been to Oahu a couple of times. It's all so beautiful! But my personal favourite part was the North Shore. I love its hippy and happy vibe with little indie shops and restaurants that add color to the road. I also love the way the ocean moves there. It's nice to look out and get inspired. The road itself is so lovely and it has much more nature and trails than touristic waikiki. I didn't see any of the posh shops up there, which makes it more natural, mystical and lovely.

I was in Hawaii back in September with my parents for my sisters wedding, it was an amazing time I think I will go back again sometime in the future.
Loved my time in Wakiki so much. I stayed at the Ritz Carlton and shopped in the diamond district. Also went ziplining. The people and the beaches are great. Also did Maui before the fires, Kaui is next.
I miss Oahu just the air and the sun and the plants is enough, gorgeous island.

You have convinced me to visit Honolulu. Love this video because you showed me the nice shops, clean streets, a beautiful beach. I have been the big island of Hawaii and yes I learned food and drinks are double California prices. But the higher the prices keeps out the rift raft. I appreciate luxury environments and I will pay the price for it. Yes you mentioned the tree. Its called the Banyan tree. I learned that it was a gift from another country to Hawaii and became quite an invasive breed of trees almost plague like. Very cool looking trees though. On the big island you will see them alot. I have a timeshare and this island is always available to me. I must go check it out now. Thanks Chris!

We’re Aussie and recently spent five weeks in the USA, resort fees were a killer! We had two rooms at every hotel (family of six) and moved every four nights, so the resort fees added up very quickly! We don’t have resort fees here thank goodness! We spent some time at Huntington Beach, awesome area!
We stayed at Beachomber on the way home and yeah! Can confirm, it’s a fab place to stay!

Waikiki is cool for a day but it's basically like Vegas on the beach. The rest of Oahu is great particularly the north shore. We got a one bedroom condo on the beach in Haleiwa for $150 a night 5 years ago. Full kitchen to save on meals. You can drive to spots where you're the only person in eye sight. Hopefully you discovered Kono's while you were there. Best breakfast burrito ever.

What a gorgeous place, Chris! I think that is a Banyan tree that you liked. I saw a tree like that in Australia. The place seems crazy expensive though and as you said I'd rather spend my money on flights to Thailand. Really cool seeing Hawaii from someone that has never been.

Hi Chris! The Moana Surfrider Hotel was Waikiki's first hotel built in 1901. Originally, Waikiki Beach was a swampland where fresh water from the mountains mixed with the seawater. Sand was actually shipped in from California to create the sandy beach for tourists to enjoy. Today, new sand is dredged from the ocean bottom to replace sand that has eroded away. I've visited Hawaii over 20 times over a 25 year period. I was last there March 2021 before I got my first Covid vaccine. It was a risk but well worth it!
I’ve only ever visited Kauai, The Garden Island. We spent two weeks exp;o ring the beautiful island. Back in 2011.

A bit of history. In the 1900's, Way before Hawaii became a state. The Moana Surfrider Hotel was the first Hotel built on Waikiki Beach. And Waikiki itself, in short, was a swamp land. That is why the Ala Wai canal was built. To drain the wetlands and ponds. Another oldie is "The Pink Palace of the Pacific" - The Royal Hawaiian. (The pink looking hotel.) And then comes The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel. In 1957, two years before Hawaii became the 50th State, The International Market Place (IMP) was built with mix bars, shops and eateries. Note: Also, around the early 1900's, Diamond Head was purchased by the U.S. Government for military use. Constructing Gun emplacements and building a tunnel entry through the North wall of the crater. Building bunkers in and around the rim. Yeah, the history is pretty interesting. And oh btw, Oahu is not called The Big Island. Hawaii Island is "The Big Island". Oahu is more like, "The Gathering Place". Maui - The Valley isle. Kauai - The Garden Isle. Kahoolawe - The Target Isle, because the military used to use the island as bombing practice. Bro, there's so much history. The 1800's too! 1893 to be exact! And I'll stop right there. Lol Peace out! Haha, I caught the Pattaya jersey on the gentleman and knew immediately he was one of your "guys". Sometimes similar energy is just attracted to each other and it's not a coincidence that you ran into that couple at that exact moment on your first visit to Hawaii. Also both of you being from the LBC, loving Thailand and being in the military. Not a coincidence at all.
Chris, the next time you go to Honolulu you should stay at the Hale Koa (military resort) or stay on base since you’re a military vet. The nightly rates are much cheaper and it will save you a ton of money.
