As a Polynesian man that’s traveled to Chicago, DC, Baltimore, Thailand and many other places including all around hawaii and lived in Hawaii for 3 years. Hawaii isn’t riddled with gangs it’s just people bored In a place where the cost of living is quite high. I know the people of Hawaii are actually very kind people, you can see in the video that they are very nice. I don’t know why they are trying to make it seem like it’s terrible on Oahu. And all of this is evident when you see truly gang areas like DC and Baltimore. It’s not a flex coming from rough areas
You said it. I been living on Oahu for 19 years now. I spent part of my life growing up in Washington DC. Oahu is NOT Washington DC. These people are basically bored youths (and some adults) who may have never left the island and are just looking for a little excitement. Like you said, it's not a flex coming from a rough area. What's not publicized are the number of people from rough areas who don't try to act hood. A very few percentage of Oahu residents try to act hood and they get the publicity.
As a Samoan that grew up in a lot of this I can relate and understand why kids get into this kind of gang culture. It’s complex and there are many factors to why this happens. The mixture of growing up around differing cultures, struggling to assimilate, loss of identity, older generations out of touch with progressiveness/ the advancements of society/ their children, neglect, toxic masculinity etc. the list goes on.
I'm a local on Oahu and never been really worried about gangs, even when gang activity was much higher in the 80s and 90s when I was growing up. Never been as bad as mainland cities and today you hardly hear about gang violence. Yeah, I know it exists but it's rare. I'm more worried about the homeless that infest our streets than any gangs.
I visited Oahu back in 07 and didn't see any gang activity. I'm from LA so it's different. Still surprised to see them shooting at each other. Thought they were known for fighting and the occasional stabbing.
Both of these issues are the result of liberal policies, and politicians. Which are ultimately the result of the population being stupid and brainwashed enough to vote for them for decades.
born raised and part hawaiian and growing up in hawaii people only see the good parts but they also forget that struggle is everywhere ive been a long time subscriber and thank you brandon for covering something that most people dont see about hawaii much love
You proud of that huh? The struggle put the Ice pipe down then Hawaii would be fine. And stop thinking the white man invaded case yall would be speaking Chinese right now lmfao
Having positive outlets makes such a big difference. Can you imagine how much a community can change by simply up keeping a rec center or basketball court
Why do people type like black people talk now. Its so annoying and makes you look like you have a really low iq. I mean, you most certainly do have a low iq, but now its just super obvious.
I was stationed in Hawaii for 5 years.. to be 100% real with you, I’m sure these gangs are a bit dangerous, but they are absolutely harmless compared to the ones on the mainland. I remember seeing on the news one day a “drive by BB gun shooting” they were all worried about lol.
Thank you for making this video, I'm an aspiring teacher in the islands and my mentor wanted me to do research to learn more about the local communities as well as the Kam Iv gangs. Like the guys said, there isn't a lot you can easily find online and your video has been the best insight I've had into the local communities. Thank you for doing this, this will be a big help in helping me figure out what I can do to help this community
These kids acting like this, is embarrassing. The whole mentality of I joined a gang to protect myself from a gang, even though those members joined a gang to protect themselves from us is a never ending cycle. Those poor children playing games on the sidewalk in gang colors. Not a real man around willing to step up and get their family out of that lifestyle. Surprise, there was a shooting immediately after a bunch of thugs were hanging out on the block drinking and smoking. It's a cancer to our society.
Calling any child/youth is embarrassing as an adult. Your negative thoughts and prayers type message is 100% absolutely for sure helping the "cancer" situation.
Wait do you actually think they really have a choice to live like this they born in to this with no way out if getting out was so simple then they would have done it but it ain't
They grow up and it’s all they know. They do have a choice, but it’s hard to abandon everyone you know and love. From the outside looking in, it might seem easy, but it really isn’t. If you were born in to that culture, I can guarantee you’d do the same “embarrassing” shit
The fact that you sit here on your white ass and judge people without ever having struggled in your own life is what is truly embarrassing. Grow the fuck up and learn some empathy. Do you think the fathers that abandoned these kids at young ages give a fuck if they failed them or not? What a fucking moron you are. Your view of the world is so small and insignificant, you really have no room to talk.
As a local chick growing up on Oahu and seeing the lingering gang culture here. I feel this is a very important video. Truth is you can't get by here without a strong sense of community and having others to help a lot cuz everything is so expensive and unaffordable here and the corruption runs extremely deep with not just cops but also politics. My brother-in-law is a cop and his superior writes him up for refusing to break protocol and do illegal and corrupt shit. Sure Kalihi has the gangs but other parts of the island have the mafia. Even if they didn't faction against eachother and shared the aloha between eachother. Both the bloods and crips here would still be left with nothing and keep getting fucked over by our government's corruption. Rail project so rich people can line their pockets instead of putting money into the projects and improving people's lives so they don't have to fight and struggle and resort to such things. They need good outlets, good education, and good opportunities just like anyone else. Shouldn't be stuck in this situation cuz it will only continue as a cycle. Hawaii was stripped of it's culture and it's sovereignty. Now look at the reality of what it has done and how badly it has harmed the Hawaiian people. These islands, my home, and the home to so many others, deserves so much better. It was the most literate country in the world at one point, it was united and self-sustaining at one point. Now it is once again hurting and divided, except this time, there seems to be little hope despite the strong and overwhelmingly powerful efforts of so so many.
You should be careful spilling stuff that your brother tells you about in confidence about his precinct on youtube… like did u ask him if you could openly talk about that?
@@jilliebean6312 Brother-in-law. So my sister's husband. It's not a secret he keeps nor tells anyone in confidence. He says it freely because people have a right to know. So I say it freely as well. was probably a long time ago for you being in that area? I use to live in the valley and use to play at the old gym in the video when I was a kid, never felt in danger or threatened. But that was during the '70s. I also lived on School street, two houses away from Tasty Chop Suey where I had my high school graduation party there. I delivered newspaper from far up in the valley to around Dole school, KPT housing, and up around Kam school and Kam shopping center areas. Always felt safe, only was scared when stray dogs chase me. Not the same today, too expensive, too much gangs, too much immigrants with no respect for others.
I remember when these Samoan Bloods, born and raised in San Jose, Ca. tried to set up shop in American Samoa, not too far from my dad's village of Nu'uuli, selling meth. They sold it to the wrong person as that person was the daughter of a high chief of that village and he told his family to close them down which ended up putting most of them on life support as they were hospitalized for weeks if not months and banned from the island.
I agree, it's weird seeing people like this who definitely weren't raised like this pretending. I love hiphop but I definitely think some can't separate themselves from the artists.

My dad was raised in Maui majority of his teenage life and he always told me how different it was on the island because men could always fight and have their disagreements but settle them like men should and shake hands after a good fight. Back then When Samoans migrated from Samoa for better opportunities it was usually Cali, Hawaii, or Utah . Samoans who settled in Cali (LA) settled mostly in the projects of Compton, Carson, or Long Beach. Some of them moved to Hawaii and at the time Hawaii already had all the project homes filled with Samoans places like Kam iv, Halawa, Kpt, Mayor Wrights, etc during the same time. Long story short the Samoans are really the ones who influenced the gang life in Hawaii. Im not saying it’s a good thing but it’s facts.
That’s one thing i don’t understand, why do micros get so much hate for gangbanging? When Samoans brought it over, I’m not tryna hate at all it’s just weird because there’s more racism towards micros than the polys that started the gangbanging out in Hawaii
As someone who grew up in Memphis and lived in Hawaii this is cringy. Every time I see them trying to talk and behave like black folks i get embarrassed for them.
How exactly does the typical black act like from your perspective? I'd find it more likely you unintentionally or otherwise expose yourself and take notice of specific behaviors. Your racism is on display, and while anonymity is one hell of a shield online, that doesn't make you less of a dirtbag, even more so than any specific ones you might be referring to...

I remember growing up with people like this when i lived in Hawaii. Very misguided individuals. Big hearts, but very misguided. The overall winner is government. Robbing these folks blind and keeping them under control. Shaking this life style is easier said then done though. I wonder how those I grew up with are doing now? I think about them from time to time. Anyways, thanku for the upload 👍
Big hearts? They brag that it's the most violent area in Hawaii. These clowns are evil scumbags that get off on hurting others and should be dealt with accordingly.
Same for me. You said it so well. All this work these boys are putting in to destructive methods, when we could be so much more if we worked together. Well, whatever.
i worked in a lumber warehouse in kalihi as a haole and never had an issue with anyone or any locals. it's mainly about respect of the land, respect of the people, and usually there are no issues.
This breaks my heart. What upsets me most about seeing these hoods ridden with gangs is how often people admit they're making their communities unsafe, and how they dislike all the violence. Hopefully at some point these guys legitimize their gang, and don't just become the Hawaiian mafia or glorify their violence like the degenerates in the Hell's Angels. Prayers to those in the struggle in Hawaii.
I really wish you wouldve asked them more about fighting, there are many fighters representing somoa/ hawaii (max holloway, mark hunt, justin tafa). I dont want to see these young guys die, we should do our best to promote ways to get out of poverty stricken area without turning too crime.

I grew up in kalihi since the 80s. Trust me it is literally paradise compared to the mainland hoods. I will say i moved to a nice/safer area when my daughter was born. I am proud to be from kalihi, but i didn’t want to raise my daughter in that enviroment.
these guys give off a different vibe than what you’d find in the states. it’s almost as if these guys r soley bloods to be like the dudes in the rap videos the way they act 😭
I love how Brandon can match the energy of these guys. He doesn't seem so out of place and can really communicate with them. I wish them all the best and I hope they're able to make it out of that environment.
There’d be no environment to escape if they didn’t rep gangs. Don’t perpetuate the magic dirt theory when they literally sing about drugs, hoes, money, and violence
As a resident of theres areas and and pretty much live on Oahu for most of my life, I can honestly say they play majority of this up for the camera. The gun violence we hear about on the news all the time but it's not as much as they make it out to be. Often times it just idiots with guns than gang violence. It's tough living out here cuz it's expensive but these gangs are just social cliques with weird hazing than actual gangs. They try to be hard and replicate some of the actual crime mobs we have out here tho. One of my class mates was trying to get in with this gang, ended up getting himself in a lot of trouble with a crime mob and got himself killed. Majority of the time, these gang members just hang out with friends, go beach, act hard, and do drugs. A vicious cycle but a hard one to escape. One of my cousins is recovering in rehab after being a part of another rival gang for a while. There are a lot of opportunities for these guys, especially when they're younger, but a lot of them like the clout of a "gang" like it's a badge of honor.
Mahalo bro, this is an unfiltered truth of Hawaii and it absolutely needs to be known, you’re doing a service to the Hawaiian people by showing this and even giving good history lessons. Appreciate you bro
Pogs....wow, that REALLY takes me back man. To a simpler time when all you were worried about was collecting small disks of thick paper. What a great time that was.

the 16 year old resident that was killed by the police had just committed a home invasion/robbery and was trying to get away by ramming police officers and their vehicles, how convenient they left that out of the video. The charges were dropped because any sane judge would see that a danger to society should be removed from society.
The video talks about Starsky Willy ( was killed by a 50yo man, in a “stand you ground” situation supposedly) but used video clips and images of the Iremamber Sykap (was killed by cops) However regardless of the mixup juntah & Bucks is speaking facts. The main media here is so censored because they don’t wanna mess with our outdated “we need tourism” troupe. Hawaii is filled with corruption and no one talks about it. My dad was a patrol officer then a seargent for HPD in Kalihi for 25 years. Kam IV and Mayor Wright housing are definitely spots you want to avoid if you dont got any business there, lots of gang activity. My dad would usually tell me explicitly at times not to be in Kalihi period cause they'd get tips that the mainland gangs were coming to start some shet. West side of the island also got heavy gang activity in places like Ewa Beach, Waipahu and Waianae. Met a couple ex gang members when i did a stint in rehab a few years ago actually, surprisingly enough they were some cool cats i became friends with lol. Cant always judge a book by their cover i guess

Its so normal seeing some of your family members tweaking on the streets and you cant do nun bout it cuz youre just a kid. I know the people of Hawaii are actually very kind people, you can see in the video that they are very nice. I don’t know why they are trying to make it seem like it’s terrible on Oahu. And all of this is evident when you see truly gang areas like DC and Baltimore. It’s not a flex coming from rough areas
The fuck so there so bored they kill innocent lives smh
Well said… I am a Chicago native and I cannot take this seriously. It’s not even funny it’s sad that they think they want this.

Aweeee. They (and you) never had a chance.

@Travixty I fully understand that. But they are all kids. So my question is, where are their parents? The fathers have failed these young men.

One of my class mates was trying to get in with this gang, ended up getting himself in a lot of trouble with a crime mob and got himself killed. Majority of the time, these gang members just hang out with friends, go beach, act hard, and do drugs. A vicious cycle but a hard one to escape. I love how people are undermining hawaii's ghetto and thats the same attitude that wont scare the tourists away. Its rough out there. I got 1st hand experience growing up in MWH. My dad got stabbed, a dude died in my backyard, my neighbor almost got stabbed walking home from school . Its so normal seeing some of your family members tweaking on the streets and you cant do nun bout it cuz youre just a kid. I have stories but im sure my brother could tell you more bc he was in that gang culture. Just because theyre not shooting each other everyday doesnt mean gang culture is non existent, its real and its nothing to be proud of. Lately its been more and more shootings among the youth and its sad
It just shows they only know the fabricated american depiction they’ve been fed through media and schools. Can tell they never been through any parts, and if they did they stuck to the safe spaces for tourists.
Hawaii is not like that at all
It is methamphetamine and locals killing locals. Son killing father, cousin killing cousin, etc.
these type of vids make me greatly appreciate my calm life and the privileges i take for granted every day. even just having time to watch this video, like, and leave this comment is something we all take for granted. RIP to those they lost and i hope they make it out
Bro these dudes in this video are priviledged wannabees wtf you mean lol
these kids seem pretty chill. I hope lives turns out well for them and they make it out
@Drexl Spivey they are a product of their environment. Most low income impoverished areas create people like this.
Kids who grew up in a somewhat affluent neighbourhood have more opportunities and success than the ones who grow up in a deteriorating community with little to no opportunities to better themselves.
@@roadkill8161 Product of their environment. Beaches, beautiful women, and a booming tourist market. 😂🤣
They create the mess they're involved in. Poverty doesn't make you act this way. It's clout chasing and emulating a sh!t culture.
@Drexl Spivey nah they're perpetuating not creating...
@@roadkill8161 by that logic, then everyone who came from there would act like that, yet it's a small percentage who actually put on the costume, get boozed up, and play gangster because they've lost their cultural identity. Just listen to their language, dropping N words as if they are or ever were black. Most people out there don't pretend to be something they're not.
@@zevkej perpetuating what? Bloods in Hawaii is something they created, nobody from LA came out and put them on. Nobody in LA even fw them when they move to LA so they make their own little cliques to fit in.

@@MrJuggalo909Most of the people living in Kam IV aren’t Polynesian. I think it’s pretty obvious where they’re from.
@@MrJuggalo909 the younger ones do… especially here in NZ where black people are 1% of the population so they have no consequences for it… they usually grow out of it after high school tho.
@@HawaiianLion15 Yeah, I think they're Marshallese or maybe from someplace in FSM (Chuuk, Pohnpei?) but even Polynesians would have trouble telling them apart. I grew up in Kalihi, right off of Gulick next to Farrington HS. I know it’s rough but you all can make it. I’m in Chicago now and the gangs out here are on a different level. The people in Hawaii should appreciate where they live, it’s really paradise. Come live in Chicago for a year and I bet you will start to appreciate where you came from.
One thing about us Samoans we adapt to any environment & we make our presence felt, we all over the west coast, we small In numbers but we never get out done. I’m from KAM 4 Hollywood & know GDz from Chicago south side & West side. They told me that us Samoans would be scary sight to see in the streets of Chicago. PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL MY BROWN BROTHERS SISTERS IN HAWAII ALL OVER THE ISLAND 🏝️.
Bro I'm black and I grew up with the homies too which was mostly my family but I just wanna tell y'all that gang bangin is not where it's at. Hawaiians have beautiful people and beautiful culture. You are natural warriors so gang bangin just plays on your natural being but just to destroy yourself from within. I'm not saying drop your flag but I'm saying just use your brains to get through these times and not guns to destroy your people who suffer the same ways and for the same reasons as you. Make your elders proud and find a better solution.
They're not Hawaiian. They're Samoans and Micronesians. But I hear you .
@@bobbugsly4632 I was with a girl who's dad is from Samoa for six years. We're not together no more but we're still cool with each other. I know that the Samoan people and culture is beautiful also.
