I have the acid wash exclusive from GP Knives. It is a great little pocket knife. It is a very practical EDC item.
Just picked up one in reverse-t with black textured handle. Great little knife to replace my UTX-70 that’s lost in the front yard.
Love it, wish autos were ok where i am. Warncliffe is perfect for 5th pocket. Thin slicey and high edge retention is perfect utility knife replacement. Would like to see something like this in the tungsten carbide sandrin uses. And a manual version for the less fortunate of us. Spyderco Mcbee was supposed to be this for me, and while i like it, its a bit thick for 5th pocket and not very slicey. Next i will try warncliffe dragonfly
Got the reverse tanto as a gift for my father in law for xmas about a month ago. Had to put a polished edge on it of course ;)

The blade shapes of the runt 5 is what really sold me to this design. I owned a calmigo for a while and liked it a lot but the drop point shape of the blade was not as useful as the runt 5
Reverse Tanto or Wharncliffe? Which is the most useful to you?
Always loved this little knife. I’ll pay the extra for this over the launch any day of the week
And over something like the launch 4 (the elephant in the room I assume that’s the model your referring too) Kershaw makes a good knife but the 4 is $100.... cough up 30 extra bucks for a Protech is a no brainer

@@dieseldabz7104 I can get it for less than that and I still prefer this protech all day everyday. not to mention you're getting it in 20cv and it's coming Sharp As a Razor.
on top of that the launch doesn't fire out like a mule like the protec. My runt 5 literally has a kick to it you can feel down your arm. Like they pack it with TNT for explosive opening.😂
Protech Runt 5 is 150 bucks if you can find it, best knife I bought in awhile..
Thinking about getting the Runt 5 with magnacut steel, possibly the lil’native with s30v. Just look for a small very light knife for at work. Never owned a spyderco but have owned several protech my nonwork edc is the halfbreed.
I handled this at my local dealer as I’ve been looking for a “more legal” travel auto.... ngl I really want one
For ~$130 with that PROTECH action and 20cv. That does not hurt my feelings at all! Wish I had all the money in the world to try this little fella out lol.

Everything considered, this price isn't bad at all for the quality you get from Protech especially considering the 20CV blade. The brass Blade Show editions with the mosaic button were 🔥
They’re pretty but I wonder if the weight could be working against the idea behind this knife, I have the blue aluminium and love how light and balanced it is

JFTR: The pocket clip on the new runt is a 10 out of 10 in my book.👍🏻🔥

the pocket clip on the Runt 5 is perfect.. it has the perfect tension, it's not over tensioned like 99% of pocket clips are.
They have a little pad underneath that's not textured that's one thing that surprised me is how good the pocket clip was I'll put it up there with a Reeve
@@BuffaloNickel9 Right, it’s perfect and you don’t have to worry about it falling out of your pocket either best it’s too short.
Unfortunately I cannot own even a small automatic where I live. I would buy the Runt in a heartbeat if I could.
The textured handle ones just popped back up on bladeHQ and I am so torn on whether to pull the trigger or not. Usually if a knife doesn’t have a reversible pocket clip (I’m a lefty) I don’t go for it.. but these things are so fricken awesome uggg
Dude grab a lefty SBR(Short Bladed Rockeye) and thank me later. It's another awesome Protech with smaller sized blade, just under 2"...

I would have liked the malibu to have the same finish as the runt 5... The runt 5's finish is more of a matte satin, it has a grippier feel than the malibu.
I agree I sold my Malibu because of how slippery it was.
Clarification... The blue malibu has a slipperier finish. I just got a black malibu and it has a similar feel as the blue runt.

Haha well now you can answer for yourself but this thing kicks like a mule, way harder than the launch at least mine does
@@BuffaloNickel9 100% it certainly did. I say "did," because it was stolen literally two weeks after I got it. I have since gotten a Newport and calmigo though and I now believe that protech does in fact make the best ots automatic knives on the market. If I do by a runt again, I'll go for the Wharncliffe instead of the reverse tanto. I also recently bought a microtech stitch, and while it is built like a tank, I am quite disappointed in the overall action of it.

@@esfwr17 I believed Protech made the best OTS automatics before I ever bought any.
Now that I own 2 (only) I can confirm that.
I have a Newport and a Runt 5 that came this week.
The action on both of them is crazy strong and yeah Microtech stitch isn't quite the same for the OTS action. ( although I love my ultratech and UTX 85. One fires exceptionally hard and one retracts really hard, but they are OTFs)
Action on the Runt 5 is a touch stronger than my newport because I asked the company to go through a couple and QC to find one that fires exceptionally hard.
I told them to send me one that wants to jump out of my hand 😂...
Protech has solid reviews across-the-board and seems like a consistently dependable company.
They are great at what they do.
@@BuffaloNickel9 I agree man it'll be hard to buy another ots auto that's not protech, at least not one in a similar price point. The profile of the Newport is beautiful too, though I still get a bit nervous about the tip breaking from time to time.
I have an ultratech as well, and it's a fun and great knife, but idk how many more OTFs I'll get in the future, I've somewhat gravitated towards the manuals in recent months. Still wanting to get my hands on a Malibu, as I've heard they're phenomenal, but have yet to be able to handle one in person, but at least they do pop up on ebay from time to time. I just really like the thumb stud/button lock combo.
Oh...and my runt was stolen by my moving company. I told their boss, who said "I'm not saying it's NOT possible that one of my guys may have taken it, but I'll ask around and see if anyone will own up to it." Haven't heard anything since.
Ok I have a runt I bought about a year ago it's in a tonto blade but only one side has a bevel I was wondering why and what that design is for anybody?

Unless you're a big fan of the mechanics of an automatic, this short blade has the same utility of a quality slip-joint for half the price. edit: Watching your review all the way through, I understand why you would like a knife that has the apparent contradiction of the blade-length utility and deployment-mechanism utility. I'm warming up to this knife.
