  • Today, we're going to be working on this unique Alpina B7 BMW and replacing the leaking coolant lines for the turbos which are known to fail pre-maturely causing a coolant leak and smell from the engine. The Alpina N63 motor has some key differences and upgrades over the original that make it more powerful, and reliable as you'll see!

    Finally got the leak on my 2009 750li with 125,000 km’s - replacing it all with silicone and metal tee’s & wye’s. So glad you posted it for others to see - did all of the hoses, on a warm engine in about an hour, including disassembly and changing filters.

    I'm trying to locate a coolant leak on my S63 engine. It's in the same area, causing my alternator to fling water everywhere. I replaced the plastic Y with a metal T, and it's still doing the same thing. The fitting doesn't look wet, but there's coolant back there. It sprays out and get all over everything. I checked the hoses for holes or tears, and I don't see anything anywhere!! It looks fine!
    I don't get it. Is there another secret water line up around the alternator somewhere? I am at a loss.

    Bmw, or specifically rolls royce, claim the metal T fittings get a lot hotter than the plastic counter part and cause hose swelling and splitting earlier than if used with a plastic piece. While the T won't break, the hoses will and at an accelerated rate.

    Good video! But, in the end, there is no need to top up small fluid tank, because it is for separate coolant circuit that cools air with 2 intercoolers. So it is not for cooling turbos, turbos are cooled by main circuit, so you need to top up the main fluid tank. Did you run the proceedure of air bleeding? Since during first start after repair lines are full of air and no water is coming through turbo it is very significant

    What doesn't make sense to my engineer's mind is why BMW can't use higher temperature plastics under the hood. Deteriorating plastic parts have been a known problem since the 1995 Ee38 740 and 750.
    One more question: did I see that you are installing some replacement hoses? Did you use OEM parts or aftermarket hose?

    • @E70MGarage
      @E70MGarage Рік тому +4

      BMW uses biodegradable plastics that have a certain life/heat cycles, hence they fail. I wonder if they can use metal instead 🤔 but then again BMW's ideal consumers will not use their cars past 30-50k miles (that's why they market certain oils as lifetime fluids).

    Hey there. At 5:39 mins through you show the plastic covers / air ducts that bolt onto the turbos. To access the single bolt on each side, does one have to removed the air ducts to the intercoolers on an S63 E70 X5m? It looks like a very similar set up. I have tried to get to the single bolts but no luck, so i guess i may have to bite the bullet and take them off.
