I don’t see it. I don’t necessarily think anyone was the jerk here. Joy was doing her job, Gene was trying to keep things light and funny, Shannon was hurt and making it known. She was picking at him but calmly, and I don’t think anyone would blame her.

As someone who has been in a multi-decade relationship, let me say this: no couple stays together for decades without fights like these. Maybe not about cheating but about other stuff.
My marriage failed at like a month or two short of a decade. The alcohol ruined it more than the "decade curse," but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
A decade is right about the time that we're asking ourselves if we should check it again, meaning did we get what we bargained for pre-marriage.
And the further the marriage carried out, the more immature it felt. Her secrecy & lack of confrontation in this relationship left so many futile "WTF NOW???" demands like an idiotic mystery hunt.
She was a non-confidential drunk, and everything we did with any member of her family involved alcohol.
That absolutely made the grievance hostile & angered, rather than sad & depressing, though.

What a "healthy" relationship haha. I was in a very emotionally and mentally abusive relationship for over years. Less than a decade but still far too long. It honestly is hard to leave someone that you deeply love and care about and just hope will change. But they don't change. Being with that person turned me into someone that was not me. I had so much hate, sadness, resentment and so on, bottled up inside of me. I finally walked away from that toxic mess and felt a huge weight lifted off of me. You have to be selfish sometimes. You can't let another human being drain all of the LIFE out of you. You have to choose to LIVE and do what you know you have to do in order to truly live happily and free.
This isn't real. It's all part of the show.
