Dead By Sunrise was created in 2005, when Linkin Park took a break after 5 years of making music and touring. This was the same year that Mike released his Fort Minor album The Rising Tied. It took some time to put the project together, the only DBS album, titled Out Of Ashes, was released in late 2009 (between Minutes To Midnight and A Thousand Suns). Chester was joined by his friends, Ryan Shuck (rhythm guitar) and Amir Derakh (lead guitar), both from the bands Julien-K and Orgy. In 2009, other members joined for recording and touring. This included Brandon Belsky (bass), Anthony Valcic (keyboards, piano, synths) and Elias Andra (drums). They were all members of Julien-K too, but Brandon Belsky and Elias Andra are no longer members of Julien-K. In 2012, DBS lineup changed, as Elias Andra left and was replaced by Frank Zummo of Sum 41 and Street Drum Corps. That was the last active year for DBS, as Chester had more work with LP. The band was first named Snow White Tan, but the name was changed to Dead By Sunrise. The reason was that at the time the band was created, Chester just went through a messy divorce with his first wife, which turned him to drugs and alcohol again. He'd "party" every day and be in a very self destructive place, not being sure if he can make it to the next day. The name of the album, Out Of Ashes, symbols being reborn, leaving it all behind, rising from ashes. Chester and Ryan Shuck became friends in 2000, when they met in he studio during LP's recording of Hybrid Theory. They quickly became close and they would often hang out and jam together. Ryan really loved Chester's song ideas, so he was up for collaboration. After Chester's death, Ryan went on to say Chester taught him how to sing, which allowed Ryan to move forward with his career. DBS was basically alternative to Julien-K. At one point, they had the exact same lineup, the difference being that DBS had Chester on lead vocals, and Julien-K had no Chester, with Ryan being the lead singer. The very first DBS song was written by Chester in late 90s, probably before he joined LP. It was just a song on acoustic guitar with vocals, called Morning After. In 2001, Chester played the song twice by himself during LP shows (one of the performances can be found on YT, audio only, and Chester sounds so great on it, it's probably my favorite version). He would then play it again with his cover band, Bucket Of Weenies, before reworking it into a rock song with DBS. This song was then released as a bonus track from the album. Many of the DBS songs were written at the time LP was writing Minutes To Midnight. They were all written by Chester and he liked them the way they were, so he didn't want to bring them to the band, which would cause them to be rewritten. He also felt they were too dark for LP, so he decided to work on them by himself. They were all acoustic demos. This song was also written by Chester, even before he was joined by Ryan and Amir. In fact, it was the first DBS song (not counting Morning After). It ended up being the second and last DBS single. It is about Chester's first wife and their divorce. Many songs on the album share the same topic. After Chester's passing, Ryan and Amir joined LP for the memorial show, playing One Step Closer with them and Jonathan Davis. Even before that, they united with Chester's other friend, Mace Beyers (bassist of Chester's old band Grey Daze), to perform an acoustic tribute show in Las Vegas. Frank Zummo also revealed that DBS was meant to reunite and play some live shows, same as Grey Daze. Both combacks were canceled after Chester's passing (actually, Chester's oldest song recently went to the studio with Grey Daze to rework some of their old songs, so that one is probably happening).

I love the aggressive sound with Linkin park but I sometimes wish Linkin park could used is side of him more because that voice is 2nd to none. My favourite song on the album is ,give me your name. This album came out before a thousand sun's but I think he wrote it before the release of minutes to midnight but I might be wrong he may have wrote it after.

Dead By Sunrise involved the members of Julien-K, which is another fabulous band. There are some really great songs on the Dead By Sunrise album. They really show off Chester’s range in a way he didn’t get to on Linkin Park songs up to that point. “Let Down” and much of the album dealt with Chester’s divorce and hitting rock bottom and meeting Talinda and getting sober. The name of the project is even a reference to that time, when Chester would spend nights sitting in his closet with a bottle of Jack Daniels, feeling like he was going to be dead by sunrise.
Love how much content you put out recently and of course the way you break down each song to find out its meaning. Dead by Sunrise is definitely an interesting project and let down is one of my favorites but I´m really excited for the other songs aswell!
The triangle inside a circle logo in the video is the same as the logo for sobriety. As a former drink and drug abuser, Chester was practicing sobriety for a long time before his death. You have to check Stone Temple Pilots, they did an album with Chester that it’s so underrated. They are a huge band and Chester was a huge fan of them, when they need a new lead singer they choose Chester and they make one album togheter. After that their road gone into different direction mainly because Chester’s childs wanted to see him more, he was doing that while he was in Linkin Park so it was a tour/matching concert with different date and different bands/writing in studio with two bands and so on
