Lemieux was poety on ice. He made everything look smooth.
I remember watching this game with my dad, sitting next to him in his lazy boy chair. We were always die-hard Leaf fans, but when he got that tuck and threw those hands up in the air, it was a very special moment. Something I’ll never forget.
Such an amazing player and class act.
He is the smoothest to do it. Just makes it look so incredibly easy. Class act too.
even the leaf fans stood for that one.... still remember this game so vividly
Likewise!
Lemieux is just an insane player. With out injuries and medical conditions I reckon he would have beaten Gretzky. He's the greatest player to lace up the skates imo. Yes, I know Gretzky has more records, but Lemieux was the only player who had a chance, if given the same amount of games we would have passed the great one.
What ifs don't exist. Just appreciate how both were dominant and great in their own right.
Part of being great, is being able to play consistently. Also keep in mind that Gretzky has the most goals in NHL history and if you took away every single one of them, he’d still be the all time leading scorer!
@@bigsteed007 For me, that's his most impressive record.
I second that! I was an 80's Oilers fan, but Mario was most likely the best ever, and would have smashed Gretzky's records.
@@ottomatic3123 yet he didn't. He was good though
Best hockey player who ever skated. I could argue for Lemieux all day.
Lemieux,Gretzky,Orr
Flip a coin
My personal favourite player.
what a bro pass from jagr. such respect.
this comeback was unreal and really like no other that I can think of!! He came back after all those injuries, and years off and was the best player in the NHL once again.
I'll never forget this game. I am not a Pens fan but I was house sitting for a friend who was, being from Pittsburgh. So I got to watch on her TV. An incredible and immortal moment in hockey.
What a legend.
Pittsburgh so lucky to have Mario and jags then follow up with Sid and geno. Unreal
That was just magical that night
Imagine owning an NHL team AND playing for it..
Literally the definition of winning at life
AND being considered all-time best!
I was 14 when I watched this! Unreal how time flies! So blessed to have been able to watch such greatness and to have had icons to look up to and model my game after!
I was 14 too back then ! Great memories !
Super Mario is an understatement
Insane
Dude could score now in his 50's
What a fantastic, emotional call from Bob Cole. "Oh baby!"
I love the video description , saying that Lemieux did that 1820 years ago XD
Apparently he's been playing almost as long as Jagr.
The Goat IMO
I wasn't a Penguins fan, nor a Lemieux for per se, but it was a pleasant feeling seeing Super Mario on the ice again working his magic.
Imagine coming back after 4 years away at 35 years old and put up 35 goals and 76 points in 43 games, that's why he's better then Gretzky, look up Wayne when he was 35, not even on the same planet
@Red Greene Yes! Doesn't hurt having prime Jagr on your wing though
you can't just blankly say that because he had a better season at 35 years old that he was better than Gretzky. You want to ignore that Gretzky had 137 points his first year at 19 and then broke the all-time NHL scoring record his next season with 164 points at age 20??? Then the real fun started as he went off with those 200+ point rates over the next half-decade. Lemieux came close to matching Gretzky's peak and may have surpassed it but Gretzky was significantly better right out of the gate. Love Lemieux but you need more evidence than one season to support that claim. Boom...
The greatest ever.
GOAT
I don't care much for the pens but this man not only saved them on the ice. rare case of player turning to back stage role and doing very well in that too. saved the pens when they were on the floor. They would never get those cups that came with getting Cindy Crosby without him shifting to owner.
the scary thing was he made it look so easy
I watched this game. Never so pumped to watch a regular season game ever. But the in the living hell was Cujo doing on the first Mario goal???? He jumped over leading with his stick? Terrible position holy. And he was a legend.
Thank you CBC for getting Bob Cole to Pittsburgh to call this one on a weeknight
I remember this like it was yesterday. What a special moment for Lemieux and Pens fans.
I'd say it was a special moment for hockey fans everywhere. That's coming from a flyers fan. Mario is the best player I've ever seen flat out, bar none.
@@jmarx3943 Very true. Lemieux’s return was great for the game as a whole. But he did ply for the Pens so I’d expect his return meant a tiny bit more to them.
@@07foxmulder absolutely true. Be safe
It's absolutely wild that after years of retirement, Lemieux puts up a season that had him 2nd in hart voting.
I remember this ,I was a leaf fan but I didnt care that they were losing bc magnificent mario was back
The GOAT! Sorry Gretz ;)
Hated the Penguins growing up, but that Penguin logo Lemieux wore here was the best jersey their team had. Much better than the cartoonish one they have now.
Dangle, how about an episode on enforcers ie Dave Semenko etc.
Without Semenko Gretzky would not have set records at the same pace
One of the best
00:20 "Shades of NHL 94 baby!"
Sick
Super Mario
Je me souviens
That’s so cool bro
He made a goal during warm up
Bob Cole 🐐🐐🐐
Typo in description.
Wish those sweaters would make a comeback.
Yes, that's the real logo! 👍
God no
I remember that game and did t care he torched my Leafs. Was glad he was back. NHL was better with him back. Would have loved to see Gretz come back as well.
8☝️🏆
76pts in 43 games in 2000, at age 35. Lemieux was so overpowered the gods had to throw all those injuries and illnesses at him to make it fair.
“December 27, 200”
Unless its reported by Steve Dangle, it *NEVER HAPPENED* (You hosers)
of course vs the leafs lol
second!
Still not Ovi!
Sit down.
Who? 🤣
Hi Boys 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
Now, in spite of having a $650 million valuation, the Penguins owner uses PPP loans intended for small businesses only to have his partner then pay $22 million out of pocket to make real estate investments. Yeah, quality person there.
You don’t know how money works do you? You think he has $650 mil in his bank account right now? Sure he may not need PPP loans but he is entitled to them because the Government has forced him and so many others to cease operations. But you prob just want to hate on Super Mario either way
@@aarfran I know that small business owners are losing their livelihoods, homes and families because they didn't have access to that money while the rich used it as a cheap line of credit and then went on to buy a pedophile playhouse.
