I think this was probably their best written album. from the concept to the lyrics to the actual music and also the band members at the time. I saw em twice when they toured the album and it was great. The guitar parts on this album really compliment one another.
Virtuosos will say knowing theory like you know the alphabet will unlock your potential but that's bullshit. I think it just makes you able to play anything but lose a lot of creativity. Guys like Yngwie/Gilbert/etc. are incredible guitarists but hardly have a memorable song to anyone who isn't a complete guitar nerd.
Being bound by the standard always holds back creativity. Abstract thought is best in music as opposed to the strictly educated. Experimentation can yield such amazing things when not held back by the norm
Same here. I'm currently looking for information on the guitar sound in Puritanical Euphoric Eisanthropia. One forum suggested they had a studio film on UA-cam, but I'm yet to find it.
TheOrangeFondler hell yeah dude. im looking forward to dimmu's new album. i hope that they go back to their older roots. i liked the last album, don't get me wrong, but i the older albums was always better though.
***** hell yeah man. death cult armageddon is one of my favorite albums by the band. we will just have to see a bit later on this year because dimmu borgir is supposed to have a new album and stuff by then.
yep i prefer riffs first, loud guitars with keys behind creating a dark atmosphere rather than the keys out front with guitars behind playing the root notes in a boring kinda way
The Chosen Legacy sounds kinda like it would belong on Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (Dimmu's best album IMO) if there were key boards on the song. As it sounds, I guess it would sound at home on IX Equilibrium.
+Pekka Kaukalo money is too good in dimmu, even though omc music is way better. That;s life? :< *edit: and lets not pretend nicholas isnt a big component to these bands sounding badass.
+jamdwhi thats the beauty of the music imo, music is so tasteful as a whole all together if you could always hear every single instruments it would get boring really fast i think.
random dimmu video in my suggested feed...ok, im not a super fan but ill bite. upon seeing Galder, i remember how much i enjoyed In Defiance of Existence. thanks youtube... will be blasting that record today
Ok.... So... Geldar... I had a concept one time that I'm sure was Dimmu inspired and that was "Make every chord a minor chord".... I now know that this is definitely a "thing" and I didn't invent anything....lol. Awesome stuff guys. Life long fan. Well I'm 54 so half life fan... so far....
Wow, the camera at 40:15 can't keep up with Galder's triplet picking. Incredible. They're great teachers; this was an awesome video! Thanks for uploading
Interesting riffs and I love those ringing parts too. I appreciate when bands do videos like this to show the right way how to play the songs so thanks! Inspires me to practice more because it’s fun learning songs you really like 🤘
Who are these 4 idiots that dont like this??! Anyways I love Dimmu. They are the very best metal band ever, for me. Im a metal guitarist from way back when. I first saw Dimmu in Dallas in 2000 and 3 times since then.
Note that they play in D-standard tuning (two steps down) but they refer to the E standard chords. So when they say that they go from G# to F they actually play F# to D#. But you use the finger positions for G# and F if your guitar would be in E-standard. I hiope that makes any sense :-).
You can tell Galder just does his own thing, not big into explanation or technical aspects. I'm willing to bet he just experiments all the time, writing sick riffs. Raw, natural talent. It'd be funny to hear this demonstration/tutorial without Silenoz.
Technically, Galder is better. That's why he plays the lead stuff. Just listen to his old band: Old Man's Child. Guitar-wise, It's more complex than what he did with Dimmu. From this lesson we can see that Dimmu's music is more focusing on the orchestral elements. So, the guitar parts is just mostly for rhythmic purpose.
No he's not. Not even close, in fact. In order to solo (Astennu) rather than play leads (Galder), one generally has to grasp the concept of scales and be able to identify the notes all over the fretboard. Based just on this "lesson" alone, Galder seems to struggle with knowing what key he is even playing in. Galder is the type of guitarist who writes music that sounds cool to him but he doesn't know why. He has a good ear, but actually has very little musical knowledge. Galder can't hold Astennu's jock.
Astennu was most definitely a better guitar player than Galder. I still think the Spiritual Black Dimensions lineup was their best lineup (even though I do not think that is their best album, that lineup had the most talent and their apex remains unrealized) after all the years and all their evolution. But that is not to Galder is devoid of talent or even severely lacking in talent. He obviously has a lot of talent. It is not always praising one to slight the other.
@TorHawk Sorgens Kammer Del 2 is Shagrath and Silenoz playing, Shagrath is a better guitar player than Silenoz, that's why that re-recording shines riff-wise. Metal Heart was covered in the 90's and I believe Astennu was the second guitarrist but not 100% sure on that. All the others have Galder in them.
Well, "as Hell", I don't know. They are rich compared to other metal artists, but not really compared to any pop artists or corporate CEOs or high level workers.
@@depshallburn I can kind of see why. I have mixed feelings about it myself but in all honesty, Dimmu is just not really there any more. Old Man’s Child needs a comeback.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong), the reason why they think twice when they talk about the specific key they're in, it's because I'm not sure they use ABC for guitars in Norway, they probably use DO RE MI or similar. So they might just be translating in their head before communicating it to the camera.

Its obvious he was a big part of the new dimmu sound From Puritanical and beyond
still waiting for the new OMC album.
