    Introduction: 0:00
    Top 3 reasons people sing off pitch: 2:20
    Your voice is not well coordinated yet: 5:03
    You need to work on ear training: 6:02
    You may need a combination of both: 6:53
    5 tone solfege: 7:50
    1.5 Octave “Gee” (if you’re singing flat): 9:52
    5 tone “Gug” (if you’re singing sharp: 12:11
    Have you had a hard time telling if you're singing on pitch or in tune? You're not alone! Many beginning singers find it difficult to sing on pitch when they're first starting off. However, everyone needs to learn to sing on pitch if they want to become a better singer.
    Master Your Voice Complete Singing Course: ramseyvoice.com/master-your-v...
    The truth is that learning to sing in tune and on pitch is the first step in a singer's journey. So, if you've been having a hard time singing on pitch, get started here.
    First, we need to discuss what pitch is. Pitch is the tone or the note that you're singing. Pitch is created by the vocal cords vibrating together. The faster the vocal cords vibrate the higher the pitch that you hear.
    The slower the vocal cords vibrate lower the note that you're going to hear. How do the vocal cords change the speed that they're vibrating? By stretching or slackening the length of the chords. Basically, if the vocal cords are longer, then they will vibrate faster just like a rubber bands. Or, if the vocal cords are very slack, they will vibrate slower with a low note.
    Now that you understand pitch, it's important that you realize that everyone sings off pitch sometimes. Even phenomenal singers like Freddie Mercury sometimes sing off pitch. But the most important thing is that you're able to correct it.
    In my experience, there are three main reasons that a singer will be off pitch. The first reason that a singer may not be on pitch is that they need to train their ear. It simply means that they need to coordinate what they hear in their head with what they sing. The second reason some singers may not sing on pitch is that they need to coordinate their voice. In other words, since they haven't done a lot of singing, they just haven't experienced all the different parts of their voice yet. The third reason that someone may not sing on pitch is because they need to work on both their ear training and their coordination.
    Luckily, learning to coordinate your singing tone is easy with the right exercises. In fact, many singers may have a great ear, but their voice just isn't coordinated correctly yet. So if you haven't learned to sing in tune, try these exercises.
    In his first exercise, I'll show you to sing a five tone scale on solfeggio. Basically, you sing each note of a 5-tone scale on the words, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So and back down.
    In the second exercise, I'll help you if you tend to sing a little bit flat. If you tend to sing flat, it's really important to stay on longer scales. In this exercise, you will sing an octave and a half scale on the word ghee as in peace.
    In our final exercise, you'll sing a 5-tone scale where you sing each note of the five tone scale on the word gug as in gutter. Don't worry if that you're having a hard time learning to sing on pitch. Learning to sing in tune takes a little bit of time and the most important thing is that you continue working on it.

      Keep recording yourself and rather than giving up, hear what it is you don't like, research how to fix it. Practice, practice, practice. Try plugging 1 ear w your finger while you sing, it really helps you hear yourself better.

    Hi, Ramsey -- Here's a method I've used to help dozens of long-time non singers realize they can warble. Instead of asking Mr. I Can't Sing to match a tone on piano, which sets them up for failure, I ask them to make a tone, any tone (I might have to model what I mean with my voice). When they make some sound, I say, "Good can you do it again and hold it for a few seconds?" When they do, I do my best to match their tone with my voice. Just matching one tone usually makes eyes light up. From there it's on to "Can you make another sound . . . then a different one?" Again, I may have to model sounding two different notes. Whatever they do, I match their tone. Laughter ensues, and so does the realization that Mr. Can't Sing actually can.
    What do you (and your gentle viewers) think of this method? Thanks for reading this.

      I use that method in my private lessons, sometimes! Here, I had to be more general for the singing public, of course

      that sounds more useful cause im like how am i suppose to match a tone from a instrument if im tone deaf

    • @dandamerville
      @dandamerville 3 роки тому +33

      @@pedro-ehlamaar8084 greetings, "tone deaf" is an interesting term that can have different meanings. Anyone who enjoys music and can tell one song from another isn't really, truly, deeply tone deaf. What most us who label ourselves as tone deaf have trouble with is just what you said, "Making a tone with our mouth that matches another tone." Often the trouble has a physical component -- we don't have the muscle control to make the matching tone. I am that way when it comes to whistling, and my brother, who is a fabulous whistler, has the problem when it comes to singing. When I try to whistle a tune, my tongue simply isn't agile enough to make the right note. It's not that I think I'm an OK whistler. As I whistle, I know I'm blowing out almost random sounds, even when attempting to whistle a familiar tune, like "Happy Birthday."
      A hopelessly tone deaf person can't tell one song from another. This is very rare, and I doubt anyone interested in music -- as you obviously are -- is really tone deaf. One way to check this is to noodle around on a piano. As you hit successive notes, see if any of the combinations familiar, like parts of a song. If that is the case, you aren't tone deaf. In fact, you are making music -- with your fingers. Again, the problem is physical, with your "mouth," not your ear.
      Another way of putting this is that anyone who thinks they are tone deaf because they sound "bad" when singing isn't, in fact, tone deaf. What they need is to improve their ability to make matching tones.
      If you have access to a piano type keyboard -- and there are several, free, online -- like this one
      www.onlinepianist.com/virtual-piano
      you can make progress and have fun by noodling around, making some tunes -- and then, when you feel like it, without the pressure of someone else commanding you and listening to you -- just make a tone and see if it matches. If it doesn't, no big deal. Just scootch around inside your mouth and make a different tone, and then another. Eventually you will get the knack of making matching tones.
      oh, by the way, in addition to the difference between whistling and singing and making music with fingers, some people who have trouble making tones with their mouths can be quite good as hummers.
      peace, keep on warbling -- dan

      I think your use of the word tone is incorrect. You mean to say pitch. Tone is about resonance, timbre... Makes it more difficult to understand the lesson, and adds more confusion than should be. Remember you asked...

    • @s4lroachclip
      @s4lroachclip 3 роки тому

      @@dandamerville You are assuming that tone deaf is the same as completely deaf to tones. Just like with vision, people can see better than others, hearing too, does not require a person to either hear or not hear. There are degrees... fine tuning between semitones may actually be impossible for some people who have a hearing impairment of several kinds of impairments that exist, and are not fully understood through research to date. So it is possible they hear example of which note is higher or lower, but they cannot distinguish if they are too sharp or too flat. The myth of tone deaf is that if you hear the semitones you are not tone deaf. That is the myth. Ask Huey Lewis

    This has been SOOO HELPFUL!!! Thank you SO MUCH!! This has answered all of my questions! My vocal coach says today I had a pitch problem but she's so rushed and trying to get through every student in virtual class before rushing off I have no idea what that means and how to improve on what shes looking for!! Thank you so much! Every question I had was answered in this video! Next I need tips on how to overcome nerves. I love my vocal coach, shes absolutely great but very busy and I have a limited window with her on zoom. I really want to deliver for her. She says I can overcome nerves "by pushing the butterflies in my stomach evenly" But I don't feel my nerves in my stomach, I feel nerves in my chest, arms and throat. I get very jittery and it effects how i sing compared to when I'm at home in my own kitchen. HOW DO I OVERCOME MY NERVOUSNESS??!! HELP??? So I can sing naturally and comfortably and work on what I really need to improve on.

    My right vocal cord has been paralyzed for the past 13 years. I lost a lot of my vocal control (in fact, all of the control I ever had on the right side), and after 9 months of voice therapy, and many subsequent years of hard work, I still can't reliably sing on pitch. Oddly, I can usually stay on pitch when I hum, and my voice is more reliable on songs that I knew extremely well before the paralysis (I've been singing all my life). I'm a songwriter and I'd like to release my songs as a singer/songwriter, unfortunately I'm afraid that I might not be able to do that without autotuning the life out of my performances. I used to have a very good voice that I got a lot of compliments on. Do you have any suggestions for someone like me?

But as a teenage boy who goes through voice changes, I always struggle in the higher notes to match the pitch, and I end up going a bit lower because I feel like I’m either straining or I’m forcing the sound out when I do aim for higher notes, which is obviously not comfortable. Is there a way to be able to learn match the pitch of higher notes without straining them?

    Subscribed. Nice will give this a try. I did a short song recording and was surprised to hear myself flat or sharp in some part- whilst during the recording I was so confident I was hitting the right notes. 😂 Until I heard the result.. then I realised I may not be hitting them at all 😝

    I really appreciate your work and what you've been doing; you've really been helpful but am confused on something and it has really been difficult to discern what to do.....
    Is singing high note above the bridge:(C4,D4,E4,F,G,A,B,C) same with the same intensity of beltted notes but in a low volume? Because I tend to be confused how some singers can sing in the higher range above the bridge like it's nothing.... Are they sing in head voice/falsetto or are they sing in a head mix but in a low volume....
    I really need clarity on this..I will appreciate if you reply and give me an exercise that will build my upper voice

    Are there any good tools (DAW or apps) for measuring your pitch while you're singing, so you can see visually how flat / sharp you are on a recording? Sometimes I can hear a wobble with a reference note in the background but sometimes I really can't tell just by ear alone.

    This channel is amazing. If I record my voice/exercises I use Melodyne to check how my actually pitch is. Melodyne analyses perfectly what you're singing. Is there a rule of thumb for the degree of deviation which you can call "normal". Let's say I sing a C. Melodyne tells me I am singing for example 20% under C or 39% above C. Just wondering.

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  3 роки тому +5

      Hey Sjaak, great question. I don't use melodyne myself, but it would be interesting to perform a test. I would say you can probably tell a difference when a singer is more than 5% flat or sharp

    What if when you’re already failing when trying those exercise right off the bat, how do we fix/adjust? Else we’ll just do the exercise wrong, thanks.
