Eurythmics duo had major success , Annie Lennox Scottish, awarded the OBE from the Queen in 2011 ,her vocal range is 4 octaves with a deep contralto voice and Annie was considered to be the greatest white female soul artist, and has sold around 90 million records worldwide , went solo and her debut album called ( Diva) which was a huge success,Annie has won more BRIT awards than any other female artists a total of 8 awards, She has won 4 Grammy awards and a Academy Award,Rock and Roll hall of fame, Songwriter hall of fame, a total of 29 music awards,Annie went solo in around 1990with her debut album called ( DIVA) the album produced many hits and music awards, Annie a Global feminist and environmentalist involved in many causes, Checkout Annie’s song ( WHY ) and music video ,absolutely one of my favourite songs by Annie, great reaction thanks 🙏
My favorite Eurythmics songs didn't get nearly as much airplay as this one and "Sweet Dreams". "Missionary Man" and "Would I Lie to You" are fantastic! I love to hear Annie wail out with that amazing voice of hers!
I am 74 years old. Annie Lennox and Joni Mitchell are my two favorite female artists from the last third of the 20th Century. While Annie's entire body of work is stellar the Eurythmics was just the beginning. Her later works including the albums "Diva" and "Medusa" make her one of my all time favorites.
Really? I always heard it as diving/falling into love, and thinking of love as dangerous. (I want to dive into your ocean, is it raining with you?) The constant haunting of her dreams and thoughts by his face.... sounds like love to me. I'm no stranger to depression, but I never heard it in this song. But that's the beauty of poetry..... room to interpret.
Dave Stewart has said it's about a wandering in and out of melancholy. He compared it to a rose which is at its darkest before it opens to reveal its blood red beauty and then it dies.
😢when my husband died suddemly this song was one that helped keep me sane. Turn it up loud when the kids are gone ,& scream all the pain out with lthe ovely Annie! Her desire to just do the normal things lovers do ... & her lover watching over her (from Heaven? )
You should react to Annie from her solo career. This song doesn't begin to showcase her immense pipes. Her voice is so stunning. Her song Cold is pure fire. Why or No More I Love Yous are amazing, as well. Her vocals will captivate you.
Every vocal you hear is Annie. She did all the vocals on all their albums with a couple exceptions. And the irony is she didn’t start out as a singer. She was training to be a classic flutist and dropped out of school weeks before she was due to graduate. She met Dave and nursed him out of addiction and they founded The Tourists together, which had some success. Then the band broke up. Annie and Dave broke up as a romantic couple but still wanted to work together so formed Eurythmics. Now they’re in the Rock Hall of Fame.
I always read into this song that it was about someone who lost someone they loved. They want to move on but keep pulling back in the person's memory. Constantly searching for a sign of if it is okay to move on or if the ghost of the past keeping you trapped. You want to walk in the open wind, but the rain comes like a memory.
Yeah... we here... lol... i didnt know you was into this stuff... eurythmcs the originator of the legendary sweet dreams lol sampled and covered by so many... my mom loved modern talking back in the day... still to this day makes me think of her and i love the music too... perhaps u could check it out 😜 id say 100 years by them...they never really blew up outside europe and/or beyond a few countries due to a bad gay rep back then... as it was a male duo... and in the 80's we all know how things were... but still... lol.. laura branigan self control is pretty cool too... love the 80's music 🙈🙈 hope u all good brother cliff sister Karen and family... sending love🙏💙🙏
Hi Cliff Love you channel, your ability to be open without being soppy Annie’s There must be an Angel “ Annie has such an amazing voice I’ve had rough time recently…… started forgetting that there are good people, and you happen to be one Had to run several errands today, first time I’ve felt medically fit. Had to fuel up my car, the gentleman who did it was chatty, long story short, the conversation ended with him singing Peter Gabriel’s Don’t Give Up to me One of several who were so kind and friendly Your kindness shows and you do make a difference Guess what I’m trying to say is: I see you
My favourite Annie Lennox track is from LotR's, Into the West, the film soundyrack at the end of Return of The King when the last ship left for the Undying Lands with Frodo Gandalf and Bilbo, Galadriel and Celeborn. Hauntingly beautiful. You should check it out.
Completely feel ya on the aesthetic love. I live in MA. Plenty of old architecture, some roads that you know have been in the same spot since 1900 because when the pavement needs fixing they tear it up to cobblestone and pave over. A couple streets where they didnt even bother and theres just something
From Eurythmics: There must be an angel, Who`s that girl, When tomorrow comes and The Miracle of love, from Annie: Why, No more I love you`s and Precious.
The Eurythmics came out with some of the highest quality pop music of the '80s. I own all their albums, & still have the odd sponsored-by-Dave-and-Annie day, where I'll just let those albums run thru. :) p.s. don't pay much attention to '80s pop videos ffs! ;)
Annie is Scottish and Dave is english. This is my favorite song of Eurythmics. Her voice is amazing. I’m sure you have listened Sweet dreams are made of this, their biggest hit
Brought me right back to the 80's we had some really good artist's and good tunes, David Bowie , Queen It was a vibe . I asked you before to look into DUFFY , she has an entire story behind her. She was drugged and kidnapped taken to spain she gave up music after that . She was another Adelle or Amy Winehouse , she came from the same music school . I loved Warwick Avenue
They are all brits. But saying ", English and British is pretty much the same..." Looks like you are saying that one use the two labels interchangibely. I am sure that many would take direct offense to that idea.
Thanks for reacting to this wonderful song. I view the video as a sort of fantasy, not to be taken as literal events. I don't think Dave is stalking her, sort of the opposite, Annie is fantasizing his presence. "Can this man please be interested in me?" When you listen to the lyrics again, you might sense that the woman of the song (in the fantasy world) is desperately hoping for a connection with someone who appreciates her.
Nice reaction. Another hit from the same era that hardly any reactors have touched is “Who’s That Girl?”. Remember 1983 was the very early days of music videos, ie limited budgets plus no CGI in those days, and directors kind of making it up as they go, sometimes trying wacky ideas. So most music videos around the early 80s you have to give it a break.
Eurythmics are great! I hope you'll do more from them. They have quite the back catalogue of material and their videos are always very interesting, too. Would also love to see you check out French Kissin' by Debbie Harry and Peek-a-Boo by Siouxsie And The Banshees.
You should watch The legend of Billie Jean ... they play alot of eurythmics songs in it ... and it goes well with thr storyline of the movie ... amazing movie
An inexplicable love of cobblestones...Maybe you lived in a place like that before. For me it's swampy thngs. Music that gives off that vibe of sitting on the porch of a shack that's up on stilts in the bayou. Like "Dulcimer Stomp" from Aerosmiths album PUMP. If you listen to it, you'll understand what I mean. Don't be afraid of it messing with your channel requests, it's just an instrumental intro.
One thing about A LOT of the “new wave” music from the 80s is that the lyrics don’t tend to make a lot of sense. Certainly not all artists, but if you check out say Duran Duran’s lyrics, they’re just weird
Dave is English, meaning, specifically from the country of England. Annie is Scots, from Scotland. _Both_ of them are British, being from countries located on the island of Great Britain. If they had someone Welsh as a third, that person would also be British, but NOT someone from Northern Ireland, which is on the separate but adjacent island of Ireland and falls under the umbrella of the United Kingdom. The bulk of Ireland is a separate country, which belongs to the EU, wherein the UK (the 3 countries of Great Britain plus Northern Ireland) does NOT.
Slightly incorrect, you're mixing up geography with nationality labels. British is a term applied to those with British nationality and includes those from any of the four UK countries (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales); most commonly the term refers to those who are classed as British citizens (by birth or naturalisation). Additionally, since 2002 British citizenship also covers people from Crown Dependencies and British overseas territories; having British nationality people from these areas may validly call themselves British as well if they so wish. Whereas Great Britain is a geographic term, indirectly related to British nationality, that refers to the largest island in the British Isles on which the countries of England, Scotland and Wales reside. There are also special rules with respect to Irish citizenship and British nationality, it's a little complex but can roughly be surmised as: persons born in Northern Ireland to parents of British or Irish citizenship may also claim Irish citizenship; likewise a person born in any of the four UK countries who's parents are resident Irish citizens may claim British nationality as well as Irish citizenship.
British = England Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland so you were right first time ( however many Scott’s don’t like the term… understandably) so you’re correct the second time also 😂
Annie Lennox is a national treasure. almost everything she did is good. But if you want to see real Annie masterclass, watch her duet wit another national treasure David Bowie, at Freddie Mercury tribute concert, so it doesn't get more national treasure than that. And it doesn't get more killing Annie voice than that ua-cam.com/video/fCP2-Bfhy04/v-deo.html
Lovely to hear this old favourite through a fresh perspective, thank you. If you'd like something different and are okay with subtitles, may I suggest Stromae, the Belgian superstar? His back story is interesting and he has some phenomenal videos. Stromae suffered from physical and mental health problems, which led him to disappear for years, only to surge back with a world tour (then had to cancel near the end, due to previous difficulties recurring) a few years ago. This video, Papaoutai, is largely about his absent father who was lost in the Rwandan war. It has had over 1 Billion views. ua-cam.com/video/oiKj0Z_Xnjc/v-deo.htmlsi=4tPF_DNxVBHkGyk_
I liked or loved everything I ever heard by Eurythmics and by Annie Lennox. BUT there is only one thing I like that Dave Stewart did and it was not a solo project, it was a collab. I know that he's a GREAT guitarist so I really do not know why I only like that one thing of his. It's weird because I KNOW he is a World-Class musician, so I am not knocking his skills at all.

Annie Lennox has an amazing voice and a huge range. You should check out some of her solo stuff.
Annie eventually went solo. "No More I Love Yous" is a hauntingly beautiful song, from her 2nd solo album _Medusa_
One of my faves the song and the album.
SWEET DREAMS has always been my favorite song.
I absolutely love this track, especially since Annie Lennox is an exspectional talent along with Dav Stewart. Eurythmics are, where very special.
It's about the helpless downward spiral into depression... Amazing Lyrics.
Really? I always heard it as diving/falling into love, and thinking of love as dangerous. (I want to dive into your ocean, is it raining with you?) “Sweet Dreams” was a hell of a debut song, I highly recommend it.
If you're going to react to Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams, Missionary Man, Who's That Girl and Would I Lie to You.
Annie Lennox single called Why, amazing.
Yeeeeeees.
You should react to Annie from her solo career. This song doesn't begin to showcase her immense pipes. Her voice is so stunning. Her song Cold is pure fire. Why or No More I Love Yous are amazing, as well. Her vocals will captivate you.

This song was fire, my mom listened to it when I was growing up ❤❤❤❤ this one
You should check out more of your mother's favorites. You are in for an amazing adventure.
Yup. Nothing like music from The 1980's. :)
I always liked the way Annie was her own backup singers. All her voices sound so good together.

When Tomorrow Comes is beautiful. You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart is probably my favorite, especially some of the live versions.
I love Eurythmics. The soundtrack to the movie 1984 is amazing.
This is probably my favorite song by them, I might also suggest "would I lie to you"

Annie❤
Rza and AZ did a remix to this song its called Tragedy
Im definitely in for you going down the Eurythmics or Annie lennox solo career rabbit hole.
Annie’s version of Take me to the River is incredible. Like Chinchilla, Annie has songs that showcase her vocal talents much better.
FYI, English and British is pretty much the same. Welsh, Northern Irish, Scottish and English are all Brits.

Annie did refer to herself as British in interviews at the time
