  • Never before seen produce hack for the most thrown out produce item in the world, BANANAS! 🍌 How to make bananas last longer, keep your bananas fresh for days with this hack. I can't even count the number of times I opened a banana for a little and the other half didn't get eaten because they wanted to peel it more than eat it.

    Do you ever vacuum seal the lid when storing food in the fridge, or is a screw on top sufficient? ( not referring to long term canning, just fridge storage). Is plastic mason jar lid ok or does it have to be metal? I just received a jar sealer so was curious if sealing would help or hurt. Also, would vac sealing in flexible plastic ( eg sous vide prep) have a similar preservative effect? The benefit of glass so you can open and close to remove the food is obvious, but … curious if these other methods have any benefit.

      I do not vacuum seal for the fridge. I use a metal lit for things that need to be airtight like cut apples and avocados, also for smelly things like onions. I use glass for the health reasons as well as the fact that when I switched to glass from plastic after using the same washing techniques, things lasted even longer.

    I have a question. My raspberries in a jar came out tasting sour & fermented. What did I do wrong?

    Look up the uses for banana SKINS on UA-cam - everything from skin care to removing splinters! (You can cut them in squares, freeze them on a cookie sheet, and put them into a freezable container for emergencies or facials)!

    Hi I like to make a lot of ice cream with the yonanas and sometimes my bananas go bad before I get a chance to use them I do freeze them for ice cream sometimes they are to ripe and i end up throwing them out do you have a suggestion on what i should do?

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  Місяць тому

      I normally will freeze them sliced up on a tray then move over to a bag so they don't clump together.

    Hi amy is it ok to cut the cucumbers in half when you put the vinegar and water in to soak them?

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  Місяць тому

      It should be OK but I normally leave it whole and just flip it in the water.

    Yes have been putting 1/2 bananas 🍌 in jar for long time now. Also apples sliced in Mason jars for weeks up to a month and the avocado 🥑.
    Let me say have learned a lot from you on other things. Wish I could set my fridge up like yours , except have smaller size fridge because I live in
    H/C apt. Did the microgreens way back in early 2000s haven't done since then 😢 no room.
    Can't wait to see any new sources and how you finish your new kitchen. Wish I had your energy love. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄 🎅 and Happy New Year.😊

      I still think the best bet for keeping a whole banana fresh is to buy organic.

    Yes I’ve been doing the 1/2 banana in a jar for a long time can’t remember when started, I was only using half for something had limited space just got jar squeezed into place on the door. Live in handicap apartment have very small fridge and just bought the groceries the day before didn’t want to throw it away. But I enjoy so many of your hacks thank you so much. I just wish I had a bigger refrigerator. I got the jars.😅

    What do you do with the used microgreens soil since the plant will have used the nutrition.
    Do you keep it in there and replenish the nutrients somehow and grow the same thing, or do you use new spil for new greens and throw that soil in the compost?

    Do you refrigerate the ones in the jar?

    The apples, my mother showed me that trick, but with plastic wrap. I know some people don't like plastic, but I think the trick is putting it back together on itself and keeping the air out.
    She uses that little device that cores and wedges the apple in one and leaves the very bottom attached instead of fully cut so it stays together better.
    Put several of them in the fridge in plastic wrap, or in this case a jar and grab it when ready to eat, tearing off the wedges at that time. Fun and delicious.
    I had her do a bunch of these for me after a surgery so I could easily grab a snack.
    If you don't want to use plastic or the jar, you could use a beeswax muslin wrap.

      I keep sliced apples in a wide mouth mason jar and it will stay fresh after cutting for about a week. It needs a metal lid. Also honeycrisp and cosmic crisp don't brown as quickly.
