I mumbled on an airplane when the pilot said turbulence. I started singing it and realized what I was doing and mumbled into nothing. I was the crazy guy talking to himself on that flight.
When he said the Word Turbulent and about to say displacement I instantly thought I wonder if he's gonna play that clip like back in the day and yep they did it. Made my day . Film Riot still has that clip saved some where special on their hard drives just in case for occasions like this.
For the life of me I couldn't figure out a way to make my turbulent noise black for years without some sort of work around and you have finally given me an answer to that! You sir are a gentleman and scholar!.. lol
Love these kind of short and sweet tutorials, please keep them coming!! They're not too beginner-ish, but also not insanely hard or drawn out. Thanks Film Riot!
What I like about this series is that it assumes you are familiar with after effects and basic editing practices rather than wasting your time explaining what hotkeys to press and breaking down every single keyframe.
As soon as I saw the effect, I smiled, knowing we were gonna get the turbulent displacement bit at some point in the episode. Thanks for making my night 😄
Film Riot was the first show on UA-cam I watched that made me love filmmaking and also not limiting the lessons to beginner stuff but to some really great feature quality effects and the like.
Haha yeah, I saw that in the first ever video I watched of them. So many great jokes they make. It makes it really enjoyable to watch and meanwhile you learn.
I am absolutely in love with RG's Optical Glow. It completely blows away all other Glow effects before it. It's versatile, it's powerful, and it's all-around great.
So hyped right now! Can't wait for more in depth tutorials like this! Not only for the techniques used but also for the major inspiration for new projects!
I like a lot of your content, especially the BTS on-set stuff. But this right here is why I show up. To learn the details quickly and directly. Seeing not only what a tool or feature does but the approach and considerations as a shot or effect is developed.
will manzanilla not sure about all of the newest stuff, but you can search on the channel specifically if youre on their dashboard if youre using a pc to watch youtube
DUDE!!!!!! I've been wanting to do this effect for so long ever since that movie came out! YOU guys are the MAN ....or WOMAN hahaha thanks for this. This will definitely be in one of my short.

Thank you for this! I miss the vfx days, maybe even some skits or more professional shorts that display an effect or a whole short film with many tutorials to go with it would be 🔥 been subscribed on a few different accounts but been with this channel for 7 years and will continue to support, I love my Texas filmmakers ;)
While I do really like your current content, I've really missed your earlier work with diy builds and effects tutorials. Thanks for this! - also, you guys have gotten a lot of miliage out of that turbulent displacement music video... it never fails to make me giggle hysterically and I love how it always comes in during a serious tutorial piece so it's always unexpected :D
Thanks for this Ryan, we'll look forward to seeing more of this type of tutorial. also, it is great to hear your voice slow and clear, I remember how you do your tutorials way back it was fast as lightning.
This was so well executed. Definitely keep these coming! Loving the new VFX packs as well as all the release trailers and VFX breakdowns from Thompson.
hey i just purchased the infinity pack yesterday but all i received was a E-Receipt, no download link or anything...how did you get the pack on your computer. or is it mailed to you?
@Joe Wood A remaster isn't improvement :) but due to the 'technology of the times' we lie to ourselves that we make it better, while keeping it as close to the original.
Great to see you do tutorials again. But I really miss when you made your sketches from the house. You always got me in a good mood. You have such great humor. Inspiring stuff :D
I still sing "Turbulent Displacement" at my desk at work while people around me grow concerned. Thanks for bringing it back.
I'm glad it's not just me...
I mumbled on an airplane when the pilot said turbulence. I started singing it and realized what I was doing and mumbled into nothing. I was the crazy guy talking to himself on that flight.

I've been waiting for this since the day you posted the promo for the VFX Assets Colllection!! Thank you!!
Bruh...I love every inch of this...
Used the embers effects on my film Mauna Kea: Day 125. Solid work guys
I want a remaster of Turbulent Displacement. Make it 4K, add lens flare and compress the audio RMS.
my only regret is that I have but one thumbs up to give
@Joe Wood A remaster isn't improvement :) but due to the 'technology of the times' we lie to ourselves that we make it better, while keeping it as close to the original.
@Joe Wood Neither is compressing RMS. Hence the joke characteristic of my comment.
Woah... ive actually been practicing this effect on my channel for months.THANKS FOR THE TIPS!!
Love it, man. I’ll be checking out the series.
I really loved how much details you've put into fading the person. :-)
Like the way you explain. Simple and compressed ;) Thanks for a nice tutorial🙌🙌
I like this way more than your other tutorials. The others are good too but they just feel so cluttered and longer than they need to be
I love this series and love your way to explain this tutorial. please make more long lasting tutorial from which we can understand batter.
Perfect. Exactly the tutorial I needed right now.
My only wish is that you all start using Davinci because there are hardly any thorough tutorials on cool stuff like this.
Great to see you do tutorials again. But I really miss when you made your sketches from the house. You always got me in a good mood. You have such great humor. Inspiring stuff :D
