With respect to Sid, Glen Matlock is a great bassist. The band sounds much stronger than the early live w Sid recordings i've heard, its a drastic difference. Thanks for posting this and giving some great history on that time period.
Thanks for watching! It always fascinated me how they played so many gigs in 1976 when they were not well known, and then in 1977 when they were famous, they didn't play much. Yes, I agree, Glen was a great bass player, and songwriter too. They lost a lot when he left.

I'm glad that you had a chance to see the Pistols, it makes such a big difference in being able to connect with the band. All the best
Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it. Yes, having seen them live in the 70's does make a difference. I never thought of that before. Thanks again.
Cool. The 70's even thru the 90's was very exciting for me. Music, Pop Culture, etc. I know I'm older now, but I don't ever think we'll see anything like that ever again-Not even my grand children. Almost like Everything has been done. I really enjoy your videos!

Went to see Frank.. Steve..Glen.. and paul at rock city Nottingham...they where absolutely brilliant..the boys looked like they really enjoyed themselves..to hear Steve's guitar live was top❤...and it was the anniversary of the 100 club punk festival 1976
How wonderful! That's a famous venue too. I have heard of Nottingham Rock City for decades. I struggle with seeing them with a new singer, but I'm really happy for Glen, Steve and Paul. They look like they're having a great time. I would definitely see the show if they came near me in the States. Thanks for watching this video!
The first time I heard them was when I was 8 years old in 79..I went to call for a boy older than me and he was playing friggin in the riggin full blast out the window..Thanks for the video, sending love and positivity from Leeds City England ❤

Yeah they were on fire throughout 1976. The Burton gig is a prime example. I first heard it in the late 80's when it was released as Better Live Than Dead. It's been around as a boot in various forms. Such a great performance that really captures the Matlock era and how tight they had progressed. Great pictures in this video. Total point and shoot snapshots. So cool. Always loved that shirt Glen has on. Probably my favorite Vivian creation. I actually own a decent replica of it. Also, Johns white rowing jacket that he accidentally dyed pinkish red! Haha! He was the best at homemade customized gear. So creative. Johnny really was the quintessential punk. His style of dress, singing and attitude has been mimicked for decades! That's a fact! That's why I laugh and shake my head when anyone says these guys are overrated. They're impossible to overrate! They influenced legions of people in music, fashion, art and attitude for decades right up to now! They were extremely unique and seminal, not to mention awesome. Best of all they were just being themselves and having fun. Another great video. Thx Maggie!
Thanks so much Paul for the kind words and comments. Yes, I agree, it's impossible to overrate this band. I love that jacket too and often wonder what happened to it. Thanks again!
Another great video! Not to get too record collector geek on you, but Marco Pirroni’s first band The Models had a killer single in ‘77 Freeze/Man Of The Year. Billy and Tony wanted him for Generation X, but then they found Derwood.
I didn't know that. It sounds like it was a small group of kids at that point who were circling around and forming bands after seeing the Pistols. I remember The Models. I'll look up that record. Thanks again!
Superb gig, matlock era of the pistols was amazing, i had dream abourburton cd full gig last night, i have a copy on vinyl and cd, seen them 6 times on comeback tours, have a big collection 250 items.
I've lived in Burton on trent all my life and still do. I've loved the sex pistols since I became aware of them. Trouble was that was about a year after this gig and I would have been too young to go anyway. It's probably one of the biggest regrets of burtons punks because the 76 club at that time would have just contained rock types. The 76 club was a brilliant club. Hi Dawn, So interesting! Thanks for sharing. It sounds like the 76 Club had a long run, about 40 years. Like many rock clubs, it's gone. I worked at the Astoria in London for 8 years, which was a fantastic venue for bands because it had a larger venue upstairs (where Oasis played in the 90's when I worked there) and a smaller one downstairs for more unknown bands, and that too went bye-bye around 2000. Thanks again for watching!
Great upload Maggie, hearing the sex pistols for the first time in the 1970s as a 12 year old also inspired me to want to pick up a guitar and play their songs in my bedroom and play their songs with like minded school friends in bands. I loved their raw energy! Great times! I do wonder, who is inspiring the young generation to pick up musical instruments these days? I like your format for celebrating dates Maggie, look forward to more 👍 I will be seeing you :-)

Agreed. It's great. I've got this on cassette. I prefer it to the actual album. You can hear the bass really well and it's before Steve Jones went big on the power chords (to hide the inadequacies of Sid V)
How great to have on cassette. I love this gig so much. And I love the photos of the people looking on from a table near the stage. Their expression is like "what's going on over there?" Thanks for watching!
Hey Maggie, another great video, it is clear you still have a great love for the pistols. Keep the videos coming. I have just taken delivery of a beautiful book by Kevin Cummings titled the The end is near. It is full of fantastic photos of the pistols last uk gig with sid on Christmas day 1977 in Huddersfield, were they played two shows for striking firemen and their familes. The afternoon set was for the kids and featured the pistols set minus any swearing, with the evening set for adults. The book is large hardback and features some stunning photos of the pistols live with written commentary. Check it out Maggie, i think you would love it.
Thanks for watching another video! I will look it up. It sounds like a beautiful book. I have heard this is also a great love album too. I have seen pics from this gig, where Sid is playing around with the kids. Thanks for the info!
@@WhyNotGoPlaces Yes indeed very interesting live performance in that Sid actually gets to sing two songs, Chinese Rocks and Born to lose backed by steve and paul.
Another great video Maggie. It’s like the Pistols were the musical equivalent of the Big Bang! Music was getting kind of dull before they came out but they were such a catalyst for so many changes in music, fashion and attitudes 😎
So true. I love the way Peter Hook describes seeing them in Manchester. And he only went to the show because he had read they cause fights at their shows in London. Such a funny reason to go! He said it was like someone smashed the door down in his quiet, dark place. He said he was silent, stunned, and gobsmacked. And then he went out and formed Warsaw, which turned into Joy Division. Amazing. Thanks for watching again!
Hi, I bought this set as a bootleg called Indecent Exposure in 1978. The quality of the performance, considering it was outside London and therefore unlikely to gain maximum attention, shows how much the original line up cared about improving as musicians.
I know! Steve Jones sounds like he's been playing for many years at this point, when he only picked up the guitar the previous year. Thanks for watching.
I went to the Birmingham gig Saturday 21/9 what a gig full of energy the band played it really tight and brilliant and it looked like the band were buzzing. Frank carter is no replacement for rotten but he was brilliant singer and entertainer . I’m still buzzin from Saturday. Burton on Trent is in Staffordshire 20 miles from me and Burton is a big beer brewery town . Sounded a great. Keep up with these fantastic videos and history
How wonderful that you went and had a great time! I love that feeling when you're on a "post-concert high." I bet your part of England is beautiful. Thanks for watching and the compliments!
Like most of us pistols fans...i first heard this show on the bootleg indecent exposure...the band officially issued the entire set in the live 76 box set a few years ago... i still prefer the prison show even though Glenn's bass is barely audible in the mix...but the others are really going for it...what an audience
@WhyNotGoPlaces i do believe they issued the live 76 box on vinyl... previous vinyl issues suffered from Dave Goodman overdubs of screaming prisoners and that wasn't the case at all...pretty sure you can hear it on Spotify
Thank you again! Great vid. The orig.pistols released in 85/86 and came out in alot of different versions.I also have the 76 club completely diff.sleeve thou. Okay keep rockin! Love your vids.😊👍🏻🎼🎸☮❤
Once again, many thanx for that great vid. I wish I could go back in time too :) Also, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the infos you gave in one of your recent vid about Glen Matlock's book "Triggers". I got the limited signed edition and just finished it yesterday; and yes, I really enjoyed all those moving and awesome stories he told chapter after chapter. Cant' wait for your next video. Greetings form Brussels!
Thank you so much! Yes, that is a great book. Glen has some great stories and I love his positive attitude. He's always looking forward. He has a lot of gigs coming up in England soon. Thanks for watching!
As I said in the past the sex pistols were are and will always be the only band that ever mattered first there were the pistols and then there was punk
Another great video Maggie 😁😎 you can see it’s an early days show by Glenn’s fender precision bass before he used his better associated Rickenbaker Bass guitar. The Kentish Town forum is a brilliant venue for the lucky attending the Pistols gigs.. I’ve seen lots of bands up there (usually bad religion when they come by) a short walk up the road from Camden 🤩
Also Maggie do you like The Damned? The original line up are playing Cambridge Corn Exchange in December which is my hometown so I’m thinking of getting a ticket 😁
Thank you! Yes I did notice his bass was different back then. Kentish Town gig is tomorrow night. Should be great. I see that Steve Jones hinted on Facebook a couple of days ago that there will be more shows to come. He said something like 'this is too great to stop now."
I love The Damned. I would get a ticket if I were you. They are a great band to see live. So much fun. Unfortunately, I live in Florida and many bands, like The Damned, tour the US and bypass the Southeast. My girlfriend in Florida (Toby, whom I interviewed) and I thought about flying to NYC to see their recent show. So yes I like them a lot. I don't think you'll regret buying a ticket. Just go.:)
@@WhyNotGoPlacesaw thats a shame they bypass!.. im lucky to live in Huntingdon/Cambridge so 55 mins on the train into Kings Cross :) Thats amazing! Rat Scabbies back in the mix so it will be an iconic band to see live.. ill do it 😊 i might ask my dad too, he was a big fan of the Clash Stranglers and Buzzcocks back when he was a teen back in the 70s. Why Not Go?! 😇 thank you Maggie
Thanks for the info. Imagine turning the Beatles down 😂. Saw a rare poster recently of the pistols playing in Plymouth in 77. They were put as “mystery chart group” instead of spots. My friend had my ticket to see the pistols at Uxbridge Brunel uni in 77. Sadly we missed each other and I never got in. They played in the sports hall which they used for bigger acts, the kingdom room was used for lesser known acts, and only held around 350-400 people. Was lucky enough to see penetration, undertones, rezillos and joy division there in 78.
Wow, you saw some great gigs at the University! I loved Joy Division. Wish I had seen Penetration. I really liked them too. Thanks for watching another one.:)
Check out footage from the TV show "so it goes" or "anarchy in Manchester" there's some great stuff on there including a young mick Hucknall in the crowd of a clash/magazine/banshees gig 👍
Thanks for the suggestion! I have seen the footage of them on a Manchester show where Jordan is standing off to the side. Such a great time for the band. I never knew Mick Hucknall was a punk.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces yes that was so it goes, the pistols first time on TV. Anarchy in Manchester is a compilation of so it goes. They are on UA-cam. Love your videos btw 👍❤
Went along on Thursday to Kentish Town and no billboard outside the venue, it just said Sold Out . Went in the pubs The Bull and the other one by the Station which were full of fans . Met a bloke with a Peter and the Test Tube Babies t shirt . Now thats a band ive seen live in Brighton. Saw a few mohawks. It was a dark rainy nightand i got some video
Hey Mike, I love dark, rainy nights in London. I think a very good video would be to speak to the fans outside before they go in and ask what the Sex Pistols meant to them. Just an idea. Wish I was there! I think they'll do more shows.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces your right but I was acting like a surveillance cop monitoring the situation and all that could be seen was genuine punk fans . There were some right characters that appeared, your idea is the right one but you never know with mad Scottish punk geezers that look like they were friends with and buy clothes from the same shop as that bloke in Dirty Harry the one Clint Eastwood shoots at the end . Thought I might catch a glimpse of someone like Gary Kemp or anyone famous. When I went to bush hall I just turned up then realised those autograph hunters were waiting at the side door so I waited too plus it was daylight. Anyway a video coming with a surprise guest in it . Maybe by Thursday
I bought the CD version of the "76 Club (Burton-On Trent)" show back in 2000. It was limited edition release with a 2nd disc featuring a radio interview hours before the Winterland show in 1978. I don't understand why they didn't release the interview disc when the Winterland show came out on CD in 2001.
That is strange they didn't release the interview with the concert. I remember that interview. Winterland is a very good live record too. Makes me sad though, since it's the end.
In 1976 I was 9 , remember a lot of stuff . Used to go to Jazz gigs with my mum , could have seen the Pistols if she had been into that music . Think I saw Shirley Bassey at the London palladium that year ha ha . Was a Saturday afternoon, was always around that area with my mum who was always doing sewing jobs for people and we had to buy thread and materials from a shop by the Palladium called Dickens and Jones.
I remember Dickens and Jones. I was in London with my mother around 1975 and she liked to shop there and also at Jaeger on Regent Street. So long ago now.:)
Amazing band with an amazing influence. It was Warsaw that they formed, afterwards the name changed to Joy Division. The name Joy Division comes from the female prisoners in concentration camp Auschwitz who were obliged to work as prostitutes for the German soldiers. I have that 2nd The Original Pistols live album. I prefer this line up more that the line up with Sid Vicious. Have a nice week Maggy. Greetings from Belgium Jason Did The Sex Pistols also a concert in Belgium in 1977? I was 9 then 🙂
Thanks for watching and commenting Jason! According to my list, in 1977 they played in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Holland. 21 gigs in total. I have a live album that includes one of these gigs. They sound very good, even though Sid is still learning to play.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces It's a pleasure to write a comment for such a friendly and driven lady as you! I regret that I never could see that first version of The Sex Pistols live in 1976. Luckily we have some audio and video footage! Have a nice week! Jason
Indecent Exposure was the first pistols bootleg i bought back in 1979. Mine didn't have the inner insert sadly. I remember talking with Glen years ago, and he had a copy and said he'd showed his mum and unexpectedly pulled out the record, and it had the inner insert which had a picture of a mans pierced genitals😅
@@WhyNotGoPlaces hi nice to talk again, i have gun control winterland which is rare lots more, i knew martain macdonald i bought lots of bootlegs from back in the day, jock box etc on many bootleg box sets, mostly his brother jock pressed many nice items.

Great work. Your passion shows how much most of us jelled with the Pistols and still do. A time machine is definitely needed in 2024. That's for fuckin sure. Apart from on their smartphones, where are the young music people? Do any of them pick up a guitar? Drum kit? Are there any punks left? Blackpool once a year is excluded. If you haven't seen it (which is of course is impossible!), here's a link to the whole episode of 'So it Goes' with Tony Svengali Wilson with the first Pistols TV appearance at the end. Absolutely watch from the beginning to end for the closest to a time machine. Peace. The Pistols were the only one's that mattered. Fact. ua-cam.com/video/fIxgpjb8JHU/v-deo.html
Thank you Richard! I'm so disconnected from young people, so I don't understand either. I don't think they listen to rock music anymore. My 2 nieces in their 20's sure don't. They only like Taylor Swift and pop music like that. I think I have seen that clip, if it's where Jordan is seen off to the side. But I will watch this link. Thank you!
I think his vocals went out for just a bit. Before they start it Rotten says "hello" into the mike, so maybe it was acting up. It's the last song and a great version. They play like they're in front of thousands of people and afterwards you just hear some light clapping in the audience. Classic!
@WhyNotGoPlaces on the full recording they start the song and the PA starts feeding back. They stop and then Rotten says Hello ......then they start the song again.
Mum bought me a lot of 45 s on our weekly Saturday shopping jaunts . Holidays in the Sun was one , Girls Girls Girls by Sailor was another ha ha . Mr Blue Sky by ELO . what a waste by Ian Dury
I felt sid played well on belsen demo, but very basic at most gigs, ive got lots of bootlegs with sid as well, he did not play much in the studio low in the mix, steve jones took bass duties as well of guitar of course on never mind the bollocks.
Hi Mark, Yes his bass playing was adequate and not like Glen's of course. I thought he did ok on the American tour though. What he lacked in playing ability he made up for in charisma.
SEX PISTOLS live at Burton on Trent, recorded by Dave Goodman pressed on bootleg in various forms and finally legalized like THE ORIGINAL PISTOLS LIVE on Receiver Records and (ah, ah, ah) EMI fAME budget album... GOS SAVE THE SEX PISTOLS AND MALCOM MC LAREN AND VIVIENNE WESTWOOD AND JORDAN AND THE SEX PEOPLE AND DAVE GOODMAN AND MANY MANY OTHERS... Goodbye from Italy...
5:40 upside down Wehrmacht eagle on Johnny's shirt, I've seen him with that on in other photos, any idea what happened to it, maybe do a show tracking down s.p. wardrobe?
No idea about that shirt. I always wondered what happened to that pink jacket he wore. I loved that jacket. At this gig he starts with it on, then takes it off and you can see it crumpled up on the stage. I'd love to know what happened to all their clothes. Great idea for a video! I think someone would have to ask each one of them individually. I'd love to do it. :)

Don't cry! Great channel, great content, amazing insights, thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! I try to not cry and then I can't help it. When I think of what this band did, it's overwhelming.
I love your video s.i live near Manchester.but I'm a punk with no money.keep up fantastic video s.
Thank you! I'll do my best.
Like most of us pistols fans...i first heard this show on the bootleg indecent exposure...the band officially issued the entire set in the live 76 box set a few years ago... i still prefer the prison show even though Glenn's bass is barely audible in the mix...but the others are really going for it...what an audience
I have heard Chelmsford show. That's a good one too. I need to get it on vinyl. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for watching!
I live about 10 miles from Burton - it’s a town, not a City. Most famous for making beer!
Im from leicester know the place, been a few rimes irony i bought rare burton bootleg there.
Never trust a hippie is my favorite live bootleg. Love the channel! PLAY LOUD!
I don't have that one. Thanks for watching and the compliment!
Seen the Frank Carter & Sex Pistols in Birmingham saturday gone and they were brilliant. Btw love your videos.❤
Thanks so much!
As I said in the past the sex pistols were are and will always be the only band that ever mattered first there were the pistols and then there was punk
Well said!
Just go.:)
@@WhyNotGoPlacesaw thats a shame they bypass!.. im lucky to live in Huntingdon/Cambridge so 55 mins on the train into Kings Cross :)
Thats amazing!
I love the Chelmsford prison album especially where 17 is still called lazy sod going to see them tonight in Manchester minus rotten I’m so excited
Wow, have a great time! I love Chelmsford gig too. I've heard bits of it. I need to get it on vinyl. Have fun tonight.:)
Check out footage from the TV show "so it goes" or "anarchy in Manchester" there's some great stuff on there including a young mick Hucknall in the crowd of a clash/magazine/banshees gig 👍
ua-cam.com/video/YvS9i_JTAJI/v-deo.htmlsi=gjiRFBmgESyN9cRj
In Viv Albertines autobiography she also mentions the hot summer of '76.
I love her book, "Clothes, Boys, Music". She's great. Thanks for watching!
They were tremendous with Frank Carter at Glasgow.
Glad to hear it! Hope they come to the US sometime.
My vinyl album is called "the original pistols live" but has a different sleeve to the one you've got
@@WhyNotGoPlaces Jaeger was another level of sophistication, don't think I ever went in there .
my favourite live recording is the club zebra gig in Kristinehamn, Sweden. Sid sounds great on it too!
I have a Sweden gig on record. Not sure if it's that one. If not, I'll check it out. Thanks!
What a funny story! It sounds like you knew Glen?
@WhyNotGoPlaces no, just met him at his gigs a few times and just chatted with him. I did have a mutal friend as well.
Sorry about i meant, hope no one picks on me, my mistake.😅
Hi, love that pressing its rare.
Hi Mark! Thanks for tuning in again.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces hi nice to talk again, i have gun control winterland which is rare lots more, i knew martain macdonald i bought lots of bootlegs from back in the day, jock box etc on many bootleg box sets, mostly his brother jock pressed many nice items.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces went to a posh shop im burton nice clothes, even they knew about pistols gig wow i thought, pistols simply were loved by many, from different backgrounds, thanks lovely.
Nice story. Good to hear people still talk about it. Thank you!
Thank you for another great video.
Thank you!
Ive got in on cassette some where, i will have to dig it out if its a good gig? Just thought i dont know why cos i have nothing to play it on!🤷♀️
It's a great one, in my opinion. I think it's one of the best 1976 recordings. Sound is good and they are on fire.
Thank you!
This is the gig during Problems they had PA problems right?
Yes
I think his vocals went out for just a bit. Before they start it Rotten says "hello" into the mike, so maybe it was acting up. It's the last song and a great version. They play like they're in front of thousands of people and afterwards you just hear some light clapping in the audience. Classic!
@WhyNotGoPlaces on the full recording they start the song and the PA starts feeding back. They stop and then Rotten says Hello ......then they start the song again.
On some versions of this gig it's listed as PA problems.
Mum bought me a lot of 45 s on our weekly Saturday shopping jaunts . Holidays in the Sun was one , Girls Girls Girls by Sailor was another ha ha . Mr Blue Sky by ELO . what a waste by Ian Dury
What a nice mum!
@@WhyNotGoPlaces hi honey, yes i agree sid was quite guy, the bass playing had real potential.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces glen was a very good bass player, wanna be me is a song, he should his amazing talent, and anarchy in the uk of course.
Burton On Trent is NOT in the GB NORTH🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
SEX PISTOLS live at Burton on Trent, recorded by Dave Goodman pressed on bootleg in various forms and finally legalized like THE ORIGINAL PISTOLS LIVE on Receiver Records and (ah, ah, ah) EMI fAME budget album... GOS SAVE THE SEX PISTOLS AND MALCOM MC LAREN AND VIVIENNE WESTWOOD AND JORDAN AND THE SEX PEOPLE AND DAVE GOODMAN AND MANY MANY OTHERS... Goodbye from Italy...
Thanks for watching and commenting! Hello Italy.:)
The current Sex Pistols are more SP than with Snitch Vicious.
