I got through the suicide of my 14 year old son. I didn't think at the time I could go on living. 11 years later and I am still here. I can dig through anxiety now.

@@juliakristinamah Please dont take my comment to be directed at you. I wouldnt watch your videos if I didnt find them honest, rational, caring, thought provoking and helpful. In my experience, based on my own experience and research and the testimony of others; the average mental health provider is useless and some are harmful. You fit neither category.

I've been going through anxiety for the last couple of years since making many changes in my life. I've tried so many different solutions, but this video is the best thing I've found. You absolutely nailed the problem, and now anytime I'm having an episode I can hear your voice in my head reminding me to trust myself. Honestly, every time I hear it I'm nearly moved to tears by the joy it gives me that I can finally feel the anxiety subside. Thank you so much Julia. You're genuinely my hero.

I think one of the solutions to anxiety is security and "feeling secure." Financially, emotionally, health issues, feeling stable & on solid ground makes anxiety disappear. I do agree trust is a solution too and being in tune with your intuition helps. Have a plan for situations that produce anxiety. Just my 2 cents from experience.

I've been dealing with depression and anxiety since June of this year. My family and friends are my biggest support but they often don't understand what I'm feeling when I have an anxiety attack. Let alone when I'm going through an attack I can't explain to them what is wrong with me. Your videos are helping them understand what depression and anxiety is. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

I appreciate what this video is trying to accomplish. Answering the "what-ifs" sounded to me like a step towards preparation and planning. If one plans and has backup plans then I believe the stress and anxiety somewhat dissipates. Your words are encouraging. To trust yourself and your strength to get back up after an unfavorable outcome, though, is incredibly difficult. I feel, though, that part of the problem in why people cannot "trust" themselves or their ability to pull themselves through a rut is that the discomfort associated with failure and the odds (for some) of failure being the outcome can be so great that we feel there's no way we can trust.
We don't want to face failure again. And when we're faced with failure being a possibility and past attempts have ended in failure, trust becomes increasingly difficult to come by.
I think that some of us may hear this and think we're supposed to trust in our abilities to succeed. I know you're saying to rather trust in our ability to pull through and continue, but most of us don't want to face failure or the possibility of it because the aftermath is debilitating.
I'm not sure I'm making sense.
In my case, I've attempted the bar exam twice. I'm attempting it a third time. My anxiety is rooted in fear of future failure, just as you said. I have survived two past failures but not without facing and struggling with depression and hits to my confidence and self worth. A third attempt could devastate me, it could end me. Sounds dramatic, I know. But that is the reality of how I feel.
So, if you could speak to those of us that have to face situations where multiple attempts for similar situations have led and may lead to the same result (failure), and how to deal with that anxiety we'd really appreciate it.

    • @ruthbarraza5536
      @ruthbarraza5536 4 роки тому

Maybe you could speak on how to let go of something that one has invested so much time, effort and resources into. I don't know.

This is a good video. I constantly struggle with generalized anxiety disorder, and this video offers some good insight and help. I struggle with the thought of dying. I have been to hospitals and specialists many times over to get checked out. But whenever my anxiety hits, which has become quite often, it always circles around the thought that I am dying. I did have a near death experience when I was 15, and at 32 I still find I am dealing with it. So thank you for trying to help people like myself!

I think the reason why we avoid asking “What if” is because deep inside we feel that if we actually say it out loud, it will surely happen and manifest itself. So we avoid addressing it.

      @joesmith389 6 років тому +3

Sultan Mir understand that these feelings are very normal. They are not harmful in any way, and half the world goes through them. They are a blessing. Do not fear them. Enjoy them. You are afraid of harmless sensations. That’s all. They persist because you fear them. Nothing more. What you resist will persist. Accept them, love them, and your fear of them ends. And your suffering ends.

Great video, and thanks for making this! It seems helpful, and I think the theory makes sense and is on a good track.
I'm still learning about this and studying it, but here are some of my thoughts... There seems to be a benefit to having a survivor mentality instead of a victim mentality in order to empower one's self and approach a challenging situation from a place
of strength and maintain a potential for growth. Having self-confidence in one's
ability to handle a situation and survive it and get stronger from
the experience, no matter what the environment brings or what
emotional reaction is evoked within us. Maybe we can't necessarily
trust ourselves that we won't get anxious, but we can trust that we can survive
having any experience, even an anxious one, and thus trust in our ability to handle it.
Not getting lost in the externalized fear of an outer environment that we generally can't predict nor control, but rather, staying centered with the inner experience
and our physical reaction to it that we can mostly control and can
learn to control better with time with experience and with confidence
building. Instead of getting lost in an endless daydream, maybe
envision a triumphant end to that story with a stoic or heroic
outcome. (So as to fire those neurons and wire those neurons
together, to reinforce such a thinking-habit.) Replacing the
future-envisioned panic with an image of calm, composure and coping.
Realizing that even if we can't prevent our mind from imagining
negative scenarios that spontaneously pop into our conscious mind, we
can at least rest assured that we are completely empowered to pull
our conscious mind back to the present moment anytime we want. Even
if we can't stop negative thoughts, we can absolutely decide how we
want to think about them, judge them or draw conclusions about them,
and whether we choose to believe in them or not, and we can choose to
not give energy to them by not ruminating on them if we so decide. We
don't necessarily have to associate fear with excitement, and
excitement with fear. We can consider them separately if we so
decide. It is a cognitive choice whether we conflate them or not. My guess is that people without anxiety may simultaneously experience excitement and fear but they don't co-associate or conflate them in their mind.

There are awesome tips in this video, like to trust yourself and answering the what if question. But my doubts arise when you suggest to think about all the past successes and the things that we already have overcome. You say their existence proves that there is no reason to think I'm unable to overcome new challenges. But how should I deal with past situations that turned out badly? They are proof that I can fail and how do I know how a new situation will turn out? That makes the fear seem reasonable and I just don't see the solution for this.

Oh dear I like this but as u was explaining my brain went in a spin .right at fist I have Bern trying to confront my fears .
And I'm glad I watched yr video to learn this is the art .to beating anxiety so I was on the right track .
Only problem is when u said draw from yr past experiences I sufferd panic attacks over 4 years 2003 to 2006 then after it came in waves pending doom and usually left .
I have Bern diegnosied OCD intrusive thoughts ptsd and Panicdissorder .I've really been battling them things the past 14 years .
And I've achieved lots moved 4 houses within 5 year span .been abroad raised my kids my youngest is now 11 oldest 21 .
I've done every kind of anxiety from heath to terms to cemtrical to what if .to supernatural fear to religious one I've done many .wether it was the OCD intrusive thoughts making me panic or panicking making me have OCD I don't no .
But I need I struggled I take things very litlary interpersonilise and I take things in easy like from Frases or utube or m9vies and some reason my mind seems to take them in a perceived danger way .or I see and here triggers .triggers over things I don't fully understand do they frighten me .
I been messed around over last 14 years in UK by mental heath servises I've only had 4 lots of iapt.i finially got refured to psyciritrist last month for full assement .I was happy to finially get in at first .But I also was convinced I had adhd .
But no psyciritrist said he was swaying towards bpd and asberges or autisim .
Then he said somethink I shit myself with he said I could slip into psychosis with bpd .And I asked what that he said see and or gear things dellousions .
Well that is one big fear for me I hope that never happens althou if it did I would ring emergenceys servises and section myself .
I left that office I googled bpd and flipped I brought on 2 panic attacks of which I haven't had for 6 years at least .and I've sent myself in a downwards spiral because if his suggestion and guess what he only said .
He's bordering on bpd he said he swaying towards. Not even given full diegnosis yet an boom I flipped .I've been feeling shit for ages and any other little thing appointed or debt stuff with vodaphone problem is all making me feel I carnt cope .So I started doing the happy list the positive list I even came to conclusion fight it in cinemas my thought on loop over 300 times saying the fear I couldn't seem to conclude . Just repeat the fear feel the sensation.i said no I can do this I'll fight it I can handle it .
But even thou I've done this I still keep on with symptoms it's like ice triggerd my mind on a downwards spiral and I want to get off it.and I'm scared of going bk to full blown panic mode .actually .
I'm 39 now to old for this shit .all things effect me badly .I rang out of hours I told her psyciritrist made me I'll.worst and she saiddont think of it as full bpd .think of it as mild bpd sensitivity dissorder .
And when I mentioned I'm doing happy lists or achievement lists. She asked if I'm writing them to reassure my identy because I've lost my identy. I said no I'm doing them lists to read 3 positives for every 1 negitive.but that whole day then I kept repeating was I doing lists because I've lost my identy .
Untill the night I wrote for clarity and I said to self wether it's positive happy list or wether it's because to remind me of who I am what dose it matter actually.
I joined 2 bpd groups but left I do not think I have that or I don't self harm dissasociate or have fear of being alone .
I have in past felt surreal .
I do now more than ever feel any slight change to circumstances makes me feel negitive worried as heck .I almost feel my brains poorly like it's sore or needs rest from anxiety .
My fears are not of what I can expose myself to .they are other level .of OCD type .

I used to do so many things but it's a struggle just to get out of the house now. I can go to work but that's all I want to do. My wife just left me too and I know this has something to do with it. I've been taking .5 Xanax twice a day and I was starting to get off them until she left. I'm not who I used to be and I don't know what happened. I dont want the Xanax but it's the only thing that makes the dizziness and chest tightness go away. I dont know what to do. I can't afford outside help and I don't really have anyone to talk to. I want to feel normal again so I'm praying these videos help.

What if you can think of things you've gotten through in the past, but you didn't exactly handle them well ie. they made you panicky, made you doubt yourself? That's not really proof that you can handle whatever life throws at you...

I had the worst presentation today because another instructor was with me in the class. I panicked and almost fainted I couldn't speak up and my knees were shaking. I don't think answering the what if question will solve that. I tried so many times to answer "what's the worst that can happen?". Well, the worst happened and I couldn't deal with it and it felt so bad.

Hi Julia, I dont know if you'd read my comment. But the answers to my "What Ifs" are 1. I'll go broke and I can't support my family. 2. I'll forever feel anxious. Because the 2 most powerful "What if" questions are: I got laid off and couldnt find any job. Second, there are thugs every night hanging around making noises at night and nobody said anything in my neighborhood. I dont know if I ever face anything close to this as being married with a kid changes everything within me. I get scared easily because I feel a sense of responsibility. So how do I cope with these types of "What Ifs"? I hope you reply. Thanks.

This was a great technique, thanks! So how much is it to get you to travel to Ireland and have a counselling session here? lol. In all seriousness, I would love to email you my problems and situation at the moment to see what your thoughts would be on them and how to overcome them. You seem like you would definitely know.

Whenever I watch a video with the subject of anxiety, I become anxious. Anxiety is not something I feel I can control. Only after I get through whatever is making me anxious, will the anxiety go away. Pep talks do nothing. I do them as a habit, but the anxiety does not subside.

So the problem I have is that, What are you supposed to do when you have multiple failures in varying aspects of your life? Especially when those failures were things that carried a lot of meaning in your life? I mean at some point don't you have to be realistic and say "maybe I can't trust myself"?

How have you been doing lately? Praying you are feeling better and in a good place! 🙏🏻💗
